Re: [Ql-Users] QL-SD news
Thank you Marcel! Really good news. I am using QL-SD adapter since quite a lot of time and it is definitively an important upgrade for the BBQL I am not sure if I understood well and you will produce some units by yourself, In case yes I will be delighted to have one board (may be 2 :-):-)) Thank you again Fabrizio On 29/03/2018 23:29, Marcel Kilgus via Ql-Users wrote: Speaking of only announcing stuff that basically already works, I have made huge progress regarding my work on QL-SD that I was going to write about today anyway: https://www.kilgus.net/2018/03/29/ql-sd-news/ Hope this is interesting to you all. There are possibly other factors as well, but it doesn't really matter. The key here is to only sample the lines at a point in time when you know they must be valid because otherwise the QL would not work at all. >>> As for the daughter board, why do you want to re-design it? >> >> Using the push-to-eject style daughter boards is a lot cheaper and >> easier to do than your original design. > The card socket I used was around 2 € the last time I looked - no idea > why it should be hard to solder. Well, matter of taste. That is indeed cheaper than I expected, Reichelt was at 5€ IIRC. The whole daugther board including SD socket, voltage regulator and resistors however costs 1,50€ when bought from a reseller in Germany or 50ct when bought directly in China... so it's not only cheaper but saves time in manufacturing. >> Besides, I don't have your original designs ;) > There is also the option to ask ;) I'm a naturally shy guy ;-) Cheers, Marcel ___ QL-Users Mailing List

As far as I could gather in my limited tests, INGOT 5 never worked (which includes the Tetroid) and INGOT 6 worked or at least mostly worked. Difficult to tell because the software had a few remaining issues, too, but I haven't been able to crash it or corrupt any data for a few days so I consider it stable now. > That would mean conclusions from Tetroid to non-Tetroid is not > possible. Original INGOT 5 GCs were tested and started to work, too. Not with the latest logic that includes the SGC fix, but the GC fix alone already worked for them and if anything the latest version should make it even more stable. > As for the daughter board, why do you want to re-design it? Using the push-to-eject style daughter boards is a lot cheaper and easier to do than your original design. Besides, I don't have your original designs ;) Only problem is that the card cannot be centered in the MDV drive with them, which bothers me a bit but is difficult to change due to the positions of the screws. Also, dual-slot would be cool. > Will you upload your logic changes to the QL-SD section of Dilwyn's site? Eventually, sure. All the best, Marcel ___ QL-Users Mailing List

Let's hope there will be no further issues, as there is quite a number of combinations to test. By the way, interesting to hear that you prefer my original idea of an internal version. Did you test your logic changes with a non-Tetroid GC inside a QL where the original logic did *not* work reliably? I'm asking, because IIRC you reported total failure of the original logic with the Tetroid GC, while my experience was, that non-Tetroid GC always basically worked, just not reliably in some QLs. That would mean conclusions from Tetroid to non-Tetroid is not possible. As for the daughter board, why do you want to re-design it? Re: [Ql-Users] QL-SD News
Hi, thanks, Kenn, Lee, Ian. >From my side, QL-SD was purely a charity project. I'm not involved in any commercial aspects. So except from seeing that the work of Adrian and me is useful for a few QLers, it won't change much if I read this here. If you like, maybe one of you can collect emails and the numbers of requested devices, so they can be handed to Paul Veltjens at some point. At best, a member of the German forum is on this list. Gold Card and Super Gold Card are not recommended for QL-SD at the moment, so please only expect QL-SD for normal QLs. The Gold Card issues might just be version related, and if some of the secret Gold Card specs can be found or re-engineered, we might be able to solve. For example my own Gold Card seems to work. The Super Gold Card definitely drives the QL mainboard out of the TTL specification electrically. It is vague wether there will be a reliable solution. [Ql-Users] QL-SD News
Hi, the restriction that a QL memory expansion is madatory for QL-SD has been removed. If a QL-SD filesystem of 3 MB size (and Groupsize 8) is attached, there still remains 62.5 KB free memory on an unexpanded QL. Not very much, but enough to load TK2 and still be able do useful things. This way, even an unexpanded QL has more mass storage than the ED floppy interface of a (Super) Gold Card offers, and that at harddisk speed without moving mechanical parts. (Larger filesystems, like the 64 MB default, can not be used on an unexpanded QL at all. This won't change.) Peter ___ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.q-v-d.demon.co.uk/smsqe.htm
