2007-10-29 Thread SCIQuad96
John,

I jumped the gun again, my bad, but I still feel the same on that issue with
many in NJ.

As for our wheels and batteries being replaced, I sure know the feeling I've
been through four sets of tires that turned to slicks. My batteries are the
fourth set as well.

After what you wrote I took this part and I cannot agree more. Our Vets
should be covered for everything. They should be at the TOP of the list on
health
care, but as Norm (Cheers) always said, It's a dog eat dog world.

You can believe what you like, but when they are thinking up ways to screw
over disabled folks, they are about to rip off disabled vets, too

I'm expecting a new TDX3 any day now, I swear medicade approved the chair

We just so happened to call and check on the progress and Holland medical
hadn't received the needed paper work, so that slowed the order about 4
weeks. What's wrong with these medical equipment companies, you would think
they would have called to see what was going on. Hell they don't give a

would be stuck in bed. I hope I like the TDX anybody have any complaints

You will learn in time that obtaining a new chair these days is a lot more
difficult today than it was just 5 years ago. Especially if CMS is paying
for that chair. First, is the order from a licensed doctor in rehab
medicine, to see an Occupational Therapist for a complete evaluation based
on medical needs. The

evaluation goes back to the doctor for another order to the DME. The DME
will then determine what is best for you, with your help and assistance and
submit those findings to Gov Insurance to determine if they will be paid for
the perfect chair. Sometimes they get a yes and other times they get a no.
Submittals have to be adjusted and justifications have to be properly coded
and submitted.

The process could take 6 months to a year. Maybe longer. Sometimes
shorter.

Ask around and evaluate each answer, based on its user and needs.

Best Wishes

I 'm sure that you will enjoy your new chair once you receive it. This
industry as a whole is downsizing because the Gov Paid Equpment, is a fraction
of
what it was in previous years. Some employees have moved on to other jobs
and those who remained are often working for two, to keep the industry moving.
Granted, CMS is saving lots of money, but the true disabled population is
not getting what they once did.

I hate to contradict you, Wheel, but any licensed physician can write the
prescription if the OT or PT writes the letter of evaluation and medical
necessity well enough. I got my letter from an OT in Feb. '07, my prescription
from my doctor's PA in Mar. '07 and my chair was delivered April 13, '07. IMO
the DME provider makes all the difference by double-checking everything; making
sure every i is dotted, every t is crossed and everything is coded
properly. I chose the Quantum 600 and it's been great. I liked the center
wheel drive because both my legs are anputated above-the-knee making my
weight/balance cause a rear-wheel drive tip easily. It also had the best
options for me: Roho high-profile Quatro cushion, tilt, recline, etc.

Allot of these new fangled chairs have seperate controls for the anti shear
back as well as the legs raising and lowering. By raising your legs befor you
recline and tilt, this feature can use your own legs to push you cack in your
seat.
It also means your not seated in your chair quite right. but its a work around
fix untill the doctors and pt decide to re-seat your chair.

best wishes,

Well, Silas mine has a flaw in the electronics that causes dead spots in the
recline system. You can get around this by simply turning off the power and
restarting. It is capable of more speed than I'm able to control. If you don't
fly, don't let them give you gell cel batteries.
On the bright side, its very freaking comfortable. Armor your feet if you got
those tiny heel plates. Bolt a peice of metal the size of your foot to that
little heel plate. You'll thank me when you hit something. It is so
maneuverable its easy to think you'll get through places.
Best chair I ever had. Spent 30 hours in it during power outage. It rocked!
Never caused a sore or irritated a bad spot.
I think you'll be happy with it.

figure I'll get my new back replacement and batteries then get them started on

Hi Theo,

I use white distilled vinegar the ratio is nothing exact. I'd guess 2-3
Tablespoons vinegar to 1 Quart Water.

Hi - All My new Urologist thinks I should irrigate thru my supra pubic
catheter about once a week or so, to help prevent bladder stones. Does
anyone else in here do this on a regular basis ? It sounds like a good idea,
but I was wondering if irrigating might cause more UTI's or bladder
infections.

True, but even that can be very expensive these days. OTs and PTs are not
cheap. Why would want to travel for a DME for a couple hours of work, when
they can work out of a hospital and get paid for 8 plus.
Trying to find an OT to make a house visit is even more difficult for the
Internet DME trying to make a sale over the internet.
Its a very interesting story

You know I like being proved wrong, incorrect and contradictions. But as I
read the CMS report issued in November of last year and and again earlier,
they stated a Medical Doctor, with certification in Rehab Medicine. This
was
done to prevent other MDs like foot doctors, PHD, Physic and Chiros from
prescribing electric chairs. Perhaps you were one of the lucky ones. (But
you
always were, lol)

Presently I got my last wheelchair from my Blue Cross Blue Shield as my
stepmother is still full-time employee and I am a dependent on her insurance,
because of that. I previously was just covered by my father's insurance, which
was through his school district, which changed every year often did not even
cover DME. A state representative help me get on my stepmother's Blue Cross
Blue Shield. Mine was done the same way, but I still have to go to a OT to be
evaluated. Last time which was almost 4 years ago , I did not have to go to
my rehab doctor. It sounds like I would have to now. My DME told me that
the cost of repairs has to be the price of the wheelchair. I have a
Permobile. They believe it is going to be a long time. Does anyone have
experience
with this? Is this correct. I really love my chair as it is very
comfortable.
I use a Roho high profile. I wish they have automatic way to check the air
inflation of the chair at all times. I thought someone had posted a site
for such a device sometime ago. Every time I ask, no one responds. I got most
of my sores, from not knowing the cushion was flat.

Re: [QUAD-L] to all in wheelchairs

2007-10-27 Thread John S.
Keith,
Sorry if I made it sound like my chair only suffers from the sight of my butt
coming toward it each morning. It has developed some bad habits that I'm told
are signs that the Mk5 electrical system is almost toast. It does a cute trick
now n then, when I recline. It starts sitting back up then stops. It must be
restarted several times before it actually returns to a seated position. The
roho seat in it needs replaced. (not just my butt complaining, Rehab Dr. says
its junk).
I think you've done real great getting a chair to last beyond 5 years. They
weren't meant to last that long. mines on 3rd set of tires, 4th set of
batteries. The back has been replaced once and is about to be redesigned and
replaced again. When it is working right its a great chair to be in. Ohyea..it
did catch on fire once. Those burns are almost healed.
If all else fails, I have a wicker chair that dates to 1932, but it doesn't
really steer, it merely helps whoever is pushing it.
(INHO) I think the money junkeys and mental deriliques running Americas'
healthcare systems have sat on their hands while Der flunkenschtooper has
dictated the building of invisible jets that are too expensive to risk flying.
We did need to replace the F-15's fast, although nobody has ever shot one of
them down. And we needed those aircraft carriers built on the double, (guys
that get $70 per hour worked Sundays). The Navy is worried how to man ships
with all the air craft carriers. Retirering Admiral's comment off the record:
The USS William Jefferson Clinton won't be fully manned and capable of
operations untill its reactors are beginning to fail. Don't even ask what
marines think of there ultimate weapon the congress forced them to have,
V-22. A copy of a helicopter built by soviets back in early 60's but Russians
only thought it was entirely stupid to build a plane/helicopter that is not a
good airplane or a good helicopter. So far, the V-22 has
killed more marines than Saddam Housien did.
You can believe what you like, but when they are thinking up ways to screw over
disabled folks, they are about to rip off disabled vets, too

Best Wishes,
john
