Re: [Quantum Owners] Re: 2+2 distributor
The fault might simply be that the lead into the top of the distributor cap is working itself loose. Using a company car I had the embarrassing experience of calling the company workshop staff out on a 30 mile return trip at 10.30 p.m. as I was returning from a meeting in the Midlands. The engine had cut out and I had coasted to a halt at a dangerous point where the road passed an airfield. The fitter arrived sometime around 11.15 p.m. opened the bonnet, pushed down on the lead in the socket on the top of the distributor and said, 'Now try it', it started and ran faultlessly all the way back to the Ford Research and Engineering Centre where the car, and I, were based. As I expect you have been told already the connection to the crankshaft position sensor is also a potential trouble spot. Does anyone know if they are all more or less the same and it doesn't matter which one you use, so long as it has the same fitting? Does a recon one come with an oil seal? Presumably a new one does? Does anyone know of this? From one website I discovered that the correct distributor is a Bosch type 0 237 521 019 but I can't find one of those. The Haines manual says Bosch or Lucas but gives no part number.. Nearest I found was type 0 237 601 001, Ford part number 84SF 12100 FA. Has anyone had a distributor problem with this engine, and what type did they use to replace it? [Quantum Owners] Fwd: Sign the Government ePetition for a new PumpWatch pricing watchdog
May I suggest that you consider signing the petition Michael -Original Message- From: Quentin Willson - FairFuelUKTo: michaelhughes7a Sent: Sat, Nov 5, 2016 2:01 am Subject: Sign the Government ePetition for a new PumpWatch pricing watchdog View online version Please forward this email to all your friends, family and colleagues to get 100,000 signatures to this ePetition https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/170006 Hundreds of MPs back our call for transparent pricing at the pumps, but to make this happen we need your help! “Everybody thinks an independent Pump Watch body to oversee forecourt fuel pricing is long overdue. Drivers need fair honest and transparent prices at the pumps. Only those with vested interests would disagree.” Quentin Willson Help MPs and FairFuelUK secure 'PumpWatch' Please help us to Set up an Independent Pump-Watch body to monitor and regulate vehicle fuel pricing. You may be surprised to learn that how much we pay to fill up our cars vans and trucks isn’t regulated at all. And having no government watchdog or independent pricing body means that how, when and why forecourt prices rise and fall is a closely guarded secret. We think that’s wrong! The FairFuelUK Campaign’s 1.3 million supporters along with hundreds of MPs and their constituents want this to change. We’re recommending an independent Pump-Watch body to ensure everybody understands how road fuels are priced and that the 37 million drivers in the UK get the fairest and most transparent deal possible. So, if you can’t understand why fuel prices rise almost overnight but take weeks to go down, please sign this E petition. Background: In last 3 weeks’ diesel, base supply cost is down 11.66%, the published wholesale cost is down 4.07%, YET at the pumps as to what we pay when we fill up it is UP 3.81% - Similarly for petrol: base cost down 9.84%, wholesale down 3.42%, BUT at the pumps it's UP 3.20% Sign Up for 'PumpWatch' We have the support of many MPs who are fighting on your behalf regarding the benefits to the UK economy in the last 5 years’ of our hard fought for fuel duty freezes and now the need for a real cut in duty. As importantly, because of your fantastic support of the FairFuelUK Campaign, they are also putting our case for a new watchdog to police pricing at the pumps. PumpWatch MPs such as Charlie Elphicke, Maria Caulfield, Rob Flello, Drew Hendry, Jason McCartney, Sammy Willson, Danny Kinahan, Angus McNeil, Fiona Bruce, John Stevenson, Gordon Henderson, Peter Aldous and many more from all parties support FairFuelUK’s fight for lower fuel taxation and transparent pump pricing. We try not to send emails out too frequently and only when necessary. We are a non-profit making campaign group. You are receiving this email because within the last 6 years this email address has been signed up to support the fight for lower pump prices through our website www.fairfueluk.com, or has taken part in previous on-line surveys, or purchased a sticker or has requested information about the campaign itself. We take it very seriously the security of your contact details and never pass such information onto third parties. That s guranteed FairFuelUK is the Nationally Recognised Award Winning Campaign fighting for lower petrol & diesel prices and is widely accredited with stopping £70 billion of fuel duty and VAT being levied on businesses and the public in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 . Well technically Bikesure, but that’s just one of their brand names. I’ve seen the odd bad press about insurance brokers here before, so wanted to post a positive one. Was about to go out on my quad the other day, when I realised my insurance cert had lapsed. So bought a policy through them on-line. All good Next working day I got a note to give them a call, which I did, they pointed out I may have missed a mod (they had it insured the previous year and noticed the difference)… They changed the policy for me, no fee, no fuss. A week later I realised that I did have insurance in place – it had in fact auto renewed, I’d just been daft and forgotten / not printed off the new cert. One call later and everything was cancelled and refunded 100%, again no fee or fuss. Just wanted to mention this, as I used to insure my Quantum with them and also had previous good service. The only negative I suppose is that I wished they’d notice that I had two policies on the same vehicle, however can’t blame them too much for me being stupid! Re: [Quantum Owners] MPG
If the weight of an engine makes so much difference it might be interesting to know how much difference it makes when Jon drives with and without a passenger (adhering to the same limits as he would have done with the trailer). Using a well known diesel powered estate car I towed an aerodynamically styled enclosed box trailer containing a table and six chairs on a 200 mile trip. The contents which were carried on one leg of the journey, seemed to make no difference but the trailer increased the fuel consumption by about 40%. -Original Message- From: 'jonathan jackson' via Quantum Owners GroupTo: quantumowners Sent: Tue, Mar 1, 2016 10:30 am Subject: Re: [Quantum Owners] MPG I have to add I use the limit.to the limit in as much as 60 MPH whenever possible and acceleration is let the engine spin on a light pedal. Re: [Quantum Owners] The ultimate fully electric 2+2
Electric boot releases can be found on the Quantum coupe but some owners found them troublesome and got rid of them There are a number of overlays for domestic and car seats which include massage rollers and some of these include heating - some operate both in house and in car. My own feeling about electric cars (motorbikes and electric bicycles) is that the first target should be operating range, speed (ability to keep up with standard vehicles in the conditions where the electric car is to be used), comfort features are 'Luxuries' which can only be afforded if the power available is such that use of them does not affect speed and range. Many diesel engined cars are all but impossible to steer without some form of power steering because of the weight and location of the engine. It might be that the motor and battery layout in an electric Quantum would present the same problem but equally it might be possible to eliminate the need for power steering, e.g. using a trailer mounted generator or housing the batteries in a trailer rather than on board. I wish you all the best for your project. Any ideas on heated production/sporty seats that fit nicely in the 2+2 or will I have to retrofit heater elements in XR2 seats? Or even heated electric adjustment seats? Re: [Quantum Owners] Coolant thermostat
If I am right in suggesting that a thermostat that fails to open correctly stops the flow of coolant from the engine to the radiator and that one which opens too soon or sticks open, or is missing altogether causes the engine to run cold because the engine coolant flows through the radiator at all times what is read on the temperature gauge depends on the location of the temperature sensor. If a gauge is working at all and sensing the temperature of the coolant within the engine block there seems to be little possibility that the gauge would not respond in the same way as the sensor for the electric fan. If it is hot enough for the fan to run it must show on the gauge. On the other hand the temperature gauge might be monitoring the temperature of the coolant within the radiator or some other point between the thermostat and the radiator, thus showing a low temperature because of the thermostat failing to open. Thermostat test - I believe the time honoured test is to put it in a pan of water and bring it to the boil. T/C engines - RS turbo thermostats are designed to open at a lower temperature than those for n.a. engines. -Original Message- From: Susan and Martin ScottTo: quantumowners Sent: Sat, 16 Jan 2016 19:03 Subject: Re: [Quantum Owners] Coolant thermostat Funny you shuld say that, as I thought I had the problem again.. however it just seems to be the gauge not moving, as the heater gets hot within a mile. Re: [Quantum Owners] Re: Quantum H4 for sale
If you found someone with cover to drive cars not owned or hired by him/her they could take the car to the MOT station on your behalf and return it to you. The other consideration is that if you are insured you can take the car to any MOT station, provided you have an appointment, which might get round a delivery problem if the car was MOT'd somewhere convenient for the new owner. These suggestions are made in good faith but you would be wise to check them out rather than relying on my word. Have mailed the second highest bidder as well just in case they were interested. If I thought an MOT would inflate the value I would do the work but by the time I insure it to get it to the MOT station (or hire trailers etc) I doubt I would recoup significantly more money. The other option is to break the car depending on what the interest in bits may be. I also would like to share some very good news, that early next year we are starting another member of staff due to the amount of work booked in for 2015 This will leave me time to concentrate on my recovery. The experts think I will be walking again soon despite still being mostly paralised down my left side There is still much to look forward to in 2015 including some very special development work currently under way for the first 3 models of Quantums that I hope to reveal at Stoneligh. Re: [Quantum Owners] rear brake
Luxury cars with discs all round often have small drums built into the disc on the rear wheels, which is used for the parking brake.
