I will definitely be over to do that ride! My primary interest these days
is all roads riding, and to that end have been doing some interesting
multi-surface loops here in vicinity of Moab -- anyone is welcome to come
visit and join in some of these rides, and the weather just keeps getting
better (cooler) and i expect the autumn will be fantastic.
Also, the new Salt Lake rando group is doing a 200K brevet here later in
Sept., and the Moab century is coming up soon as well. I should be
attending both, but first will be going back to the Rockies to ride in Rocky
Mtn Nat. Park, and another lap on Mt. Evans before it starts snowin'!

[RBW] Re: Nitto Big Front + Fenders

2011-09-04 Thread Minh
Just replying to my own post. I went out for a S24O without securing
the fender like i had with the Nitto Mini (so i just had the stays,
the daruma, but nothing at the front of the rack), and ended up
rattling it out of position. Thank goodness for bungies i was able to
get equal enough tension to hold it in place (for 60 miles). As i was
riding a lightbulb went off, i figured i could use an extra daruma and
a zip-tie to hold the front of the fender in place and then it would
be almost the be same as the underside boss on my Nitto Mini Front.

Attached is a pic, the daruma is not as far forward as i would like
but i already had a hole there from my Nitto Mini and couldn't move it
forward, so far it's really solid, no movement, but i still need a
long bumpy ride to see if it will hold.

Sometime over the winter i'll also try the fork-fender-wedge from the
guys at Boulder Cycles to see if that will also tighten up the daruma
on the underside of the fork.

a boss, has anyone come up with a homebrew solution?  I've got decent
clearance on the fender now, but i'd like to pin it in place as it
rattles a little bit at the moment.

And the fender is a VO metal fender mounted at the fork with a daruma,
the fender stays are mounted at the bottom of the Big Front rack.

[RBW] Re: FS: Park Digital Scale DS-1 Brand New

Patrick -
It was earlier in life, but later became more lenient. Last I heard,
the scale was just giving out severe tongue lashings.

Will admit to having a scale. But only to judge if my bikes have
inadvertently fallen below 30 pounds.

Johnny: is it a hanging scale? If so, I will buy it if it is still available.

[RBW] WTB: Campagnolo Downtube Shifters

2011-09-04 Thread Eric Norris
I'm in search of a pair of later-model Campagnolo downtube shifters (not the
classic kind with knurled edges). I'm running late-model 9-speed on the bike
they're intended for, so matching indexing *or* friction would be OK.

I had such good luck with hand position on my PBP bike (Nuovo Record brake
levers and downtube shifters) that I'm converting my Riv Road to the same setup.

Thanks in advance.

[RBW] Bleriot End of Summer Mountain Ride

2011-09-04 Thread rob markwardt
Greetings,
School starts this week, I haven't ridden the Bleriot all summer,
I've got a free pass to bike all day...what to do? Go for a 100ish
miler on the trails east of Seattle! It was cold and foggy when I
started but it turned in to a perfect day. About ten hours on the
trail... 9 on the bike. Would have been more but a flat (on a
Schawlbe Marathon..gasp!) slowed me down a bit. Lots of ups, lots of
downs, got lost a couple times but that makes it more interesting.
My Bleriot gets the most mileage of all my bikes, however, summer
usually means riding my vintage steeds. It was nice to get back on
old blue and it performed as good as always. A little sore but had
a fun day. A few pics...

What a day for it--looks like a blast! Do you have any more details
on the route? I'd like to give that a go.
