[RBW] Re: Lights for Nitto racks
The rack mounted tail lights that Peter White sells would fit if the spacing is either 50 or 80 mm. Tel Aviv has a bike sharing program and those are the lights mounted to their racks. Seem to work pretty good. http://www.peterwhitecycles.com/bm.asp Scroll down the page to, you guessed it, rack mounted tail lights. [RBW] Re: Lights for Nitto racks
Planet bike makes a bracket to mount on racks. Put a bolt through one of the middle holes, and tighten it down with a nylock nut and washer on the inside of the rack. It's this part - http://ecom1.planetbike.com/3108.html Pretty sure most lights from Planet bike come with that bracket. Otherwise your LBS might have one around to sell. It will also fit lights from Portland Design Works and probably a number of other makers. Was also able to mount a Supernova E3 tail light to the Nitto on my Sam Hillborne by just using one bolt and having the light offset. Otherwise it gets to be more of a hassle to get a light mounted on the rack. Although it can be done. [RBW] Re: Lights for Nitto racks
Hi Anne, I have the Nitto Big front rack with a flat plate as you describe. I use the plate to mount a reflector -- I don't like having a light that far forward. My headlight is a Planet Bike Blaze 2W, designed to clamp on a handlebar. To mount my light on the rack, I use a Velo Orange small-diameter band clamp and a Nitto Lamp holder (link below) to create a place to clamp the handlebar mount. This puts the light on the side of my rack in a good place that doesn't interfere with low-mount panniers, an Ortlieb handlebar bag, or even a Wald basket on the rack platform. Re: [RBW] Re: Lights for Nitto racks
A warning: I've had two rear blinkies mounted on one of those adaptors fling themselves off the mount, hit the ground and explode after the rear tire hit admittedly egregiously large (6 wide, 3 deep) expansion cracks at 15+ mph. It seems that the moment or leverage of the very rearward location makes that adaptor rather insecure. [RBW] Pine Tar Testimony
For more than a decade, every day, I’ve used Pine Tar Soap as shampoo, body cleanser, and shaving cream. For some reason just this morning, this reality struck me as somewhat remarkable, and so here I will. I don’t buy or use any other products for the general touch-up of my physical exterior. I have all of my hair at fifty (in fact, perhaps more than I’d like on top), little to no discernible gray, no dandruff, no skin troubles, no funny smells, and most importantly, no hassle. While I can’t attribute this, from my perspective, generally desirable condition to the soap directly, I can look at my only (younger) brother and rationally conclude that I am either comparatively fortunate, or that the soap helps. My routine is pretty simple. Water on, close eyes, lather hair, face, and other bits all at once, find razor, shave, and rinse. When Bar Now is nearly reduced to a sliver, it gets set atop Bar Next, where it anneals, continuing the cycle. I cannot think of a single other thing in my life from which I’ve derived such sustainable utility, ease of use, and value. For what it’s worth, I work in technology, spend a great deal of time “down in the valley” and (as we say in Seattle) “up on the mountain” in the company of corporate directors, BOD members, venture capitalists, partner senior executives, and every day I work in lockstep with DevOps staff. I like to think about stuff, but I’m by no means bohemian. I guess the point there is that my program seems to dovetail just fine with the rest of society, and no one’s the wiser. Perhaps the best news is that my kids, two boys eight and eleven, are on the same program, and to them it’s a good thing. I feel as if with the help of Rivendell, I’ve AXE-proofed my home, and that’s worth a lot. Lather, rinse, repeat. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Re: Pine Tar Testimony
I love pine tar soap. I tried it based on Grant's recommendation first as a face soap, soon the entire body. I have told this story here before: when I went to a month long radar course in Norman OK and met a fellow cute meteorologist who road a metebecance with a leather saddle, who tele skied, AND who used pine tar soap, I married her! We both just shared a shower together and one bar of pine tar. My conclusion: pine tar soap leads to marital bliss! [RBW] Re: Lights for Nitto racks
I got my planet bike bracket for my rear blinked from amazon. Its been solid for me...and I've been pounding the crap out of it on my daily commute.
Anne, Not that complicated if you talked to Peter White he'd make sure you get the correct combination, but pretty much any light now will have some kind of fork-crown mount either with it or for a few bucks more. Any of the fork-crown mounts will work with the nitto on the front. alternatively if you can mount it on the side (and your nitto rack has a boss on the side) you could use an offset side mount like the one from boulder bicycles or you could use the Gino mount and then use any light that's meant for handlebar mounting. So first decide if front mount is what you want, then search for a light and see if the fork-crown mount will work for you. I really like the one William showed, because it doesn't raise it as much, i might have to go with that if i ever upgrade from my perfectly-fine-but-not-as-pretty light to an edelux. examples of mounts here http://www.peterwhitecycles.com/light-mounts.asp -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Sturdy rack that will clear 29mm+ (622X65 mm) tires + fenders with very much room to spare
I was thinking of a custom rack or perhaps having extensions brazed on to the legs of, say, a Logo, but today purely by happenstance I saw a Sunlite -- JB house brand? -- rack hanging from the ceiling at Stevie's Happy bikes in Corrales, designed for disk braked 29ers with extendable struts. $35 including 7.75% tax got me a rack that is very stiff, is rated for 50 lb, and clears my Big Apples with fenders (1 cm minimum between fender and tire) at the second notch out of four. What's not to like? It's not as pretty as a Nitto -- tig'd aluminum, anodized black, but it has steel hardware and is very, very stiff. And for $32.95. Now I can use my Ortliebs -- much better than the Camper. Those of you with Bombs or Hunqs who want 60-pluses, fenders with air and a rear rack, keep this one in mind. Looks great! I also have a Riv-ish Salsa, a 2008 Casseroll. Yours definitely wins on having Riv-sourced parts, mine is more Riv in overall fit and philosophy--high bars, laid back seating position facilitated by Nitto Wayback post, downtube shifters, fenders, and Ruffy-Tuffies. I was also intrigued by the Ti La Cruz when they came out, having long lusted after a titanium bike myself. Ryan, you'll probably have a hard time finding one, they only made them for a year or two, and they've phased them out in favor of the disc braked Vaya model. I heard rumors about a possible re-issue with BB30 and oversized headtube, but that's vaporware as of yet. [RBW] Headed to Boulder tomorrow
Hi Folks, I haven't lived in Boulder for ten years, so I'm not sure what's available in terms of renting a decent real world bicycle. Any ideas? Or, if any of you want to lend me a beater for the week, do tell! Thanks, Gino -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Re: Lights for Nitto racks
Anne I've not read all the replies so you might have gotten the answer you wanted. But here's my IQ Cyo mounted on my Nitto Mini--purchased from Rivendell. Not sure what you meant when you said except for IQ Cyo so here goes: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cwmcmillen/6867520015/in/photostream Christian On Friday, March 16, 2012 11:11:54 PM UTC-4, Anne Paulson wrote: Probably some of you have those Nitto racks Rivendell sells. Great racks. Front and rear both have a flat plate, with a hole facing forward/backward, for (I assume) mounting a light. Can anyone name a front light (dyno-powered or battery-powered) or a rear battery-powered light that I could buy that comes with hardware suitable for mounting on a flat plate like the Nitto has? I'm mechanically challenged and can't figure out how to mount a light on one of those racks. Except an IQ Cyo, which I think will soon grace my touring bike. But that leaves rear lights or blinkies for my bike and my son's beautiful apple green Rambouillet. -- -- Anne Paulson My hovercraft is full of eels -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Rode My First Rando Event Today
Thanks for all the tips everyone gave in my previous post asking for Randonneuring advice. I put much of it to use today and had a successful ride. The forecast called for 100% chance of rain showers. We got a few minor sprinkles, lots of clouds and a decent amount of sunshine. I came prepared for 100k of riding in a downpour. Instead I should have wore sunscreen. No bonk or nutrition/cramp issues... I believe largely thanks to tips from the list. My goal was to finish in 6 hours (a little over 10mph average) and I got my card signed at 5:55. Perhaps I could have pushed myself and gotten a slightly better time but that would have eaten into my breaks, conversations, and scenery gazing. I don't really feel the need to jump right into the longer brevets but it's likely I'll be back for more 100k rides. My control card proved it happened, but it's on it's way to France. These pics will have to suffice.https://picasaweb.google.com/113148323994353762329/OregonRandonneursSnoozevillePopularie100k?authuser=0feat=directlink cheers, Smitty -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group.
