Re: [RBW] Re: ClemSamples on the BLUG
I don't know about the water-bottle-behind-the-seat-tube idea. I'm not particularly worried about this under normal circumstances (I know many people who will only use camelbacks when mountain biking, because of concerns about trail dirt and animal dung), but it seems like this is just asking for trouble. Unless you have *really good* fenders (which might make it too tight and not an option anyway) then there's a pretty high likelihood of splashing contaminants from the road or trail right onto the valve that you drink out of. Ick. An everything cage for stuff could be pretty neat though. Ideally, they'd add a third boss there, but that's a lot to ask considering how many braze-ons these appear to have already. These are an AMAZING value, in that respect!!! Might only work on the 59, with skinny tires and no fenders, too. I think a pair of pump pegs on the back of the seat tube would be the ultimate winner, personally. All-in-all, these are even more beautiful than I had expected. Just, WOW! Keith, I'd rather my wife and daughters have the option of a second bottle cage and choose not to use it. The simple answer, Bobby, is yes. The world has been blurry for 4 years, as I experienced the world better without glasses because of a huge number of factors. These lenses appear to make it possible to both see clearly and not interfere with brain function. It's a new type of lens, and allows for natural eye movement, peripheral vision, and minimal light refraction. An amazing blessing so far. [RBW] FS 1986 DB Apex 19 inch
I have this 1986 diamondback apex bike that im getting rid of. i always wanted to do something with it since it has so much potential, but i never got around to it. it measures 19.5in center to top, and the standover with these smallish tires is 76cm. would be a great trail bike or loaded tourer. Japanese made with double-butted tange mtb frame/fork/stays. partially lugged, partially tig welded. it has a really cool extra spoke holder that doubles as the chainstay protector. has the classic deerhead derailleurs and front canti. rear wheel has a roller brake under the chainstay, which is an odd design, but it works fine. shimano cranks with biopace rings. braze ons for 2 water bottles, racks, midfork eyelets, fenders. 26 inch original wheels. frame is nice with hints of beausage in the regular places, ie. little paint chips here and there. no dings or dents. components are used but in good condition. this bike was never ridden all that much. selling this with everything *except* brake levers/shifters/cables/saddle. everything but the tires are original, including the stock blackburn mtn rack. i really don't know what a fair price is...not looking for all that much. open to suggestions and offers. if interested, ask for some detailed photographs. located in los angeles, and could potentially ship https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0artItXAvTw/VQNSHnHtGgI/AL4/R23t5xU5fCM/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-03-13%2Bat%2B2.07.07%2BPM.png https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-r7rW9NwBEOw/VQNSAKQSoYI/ALw/gX1yTJSGaUI/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-03-13%2Bat%2B2.06.43%2BPM.png -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Re: frame repair in Chicago
Thanks to all for the suggestions. I get the impression that this job is too small (as defined by what I'm willing to pay) for it to be part of somebody's actual business. I think I will simply try to re-mount the kickstand retro style (with a plate above the chainstays and a long bolt). I may later try to remove the kickstand plate myself with a grinder if I think I can do it without totally trashing the frame. If/When I'm ready for a re-paint or develop some more important/extensive repair needs, I'll take the frame to its original manufacturer Waterford (less than two hours away). RE: [RBW] Re: ClemSamples on the BLUG
That's funny, I just called Walnut Creek to get the answer to that very question, relative to my pre-ordered blue 52cm. (Also funny because we're all sitting here worrying about build issues for a frame we're not even going to have for another 7 months at the earliest!) I got Miesha, then Will, who said it would probably require some sort of pulley arrangement, but that V-brakes were really better for the Clementine for this reason, and then (after a brief Will-Mark consultation) suggested I email Mark because he might have an alternative approach. Then, just the other day, I saw a news segment interviewing people who have a renewed interest in run-of-the-mill typewriters (as opposed to software/printer based word processing systems). Enter this current and curious interest in nicely painted, well-equipped steel bike frames and are we on the verge of yet another retro (but practical and efficient) movement back to practical cycling? Only time and popularity will tell. And BTW, Grant featured at least one article in an older RivReader about the benefits of the mechanical typewriter, which makes me wonder if he has not been a prophet all along of the direction that some of these technological advancements (including CF) would eventually take. But I think both my Rivs look great with 650b, there's no toe overlap -even fendered, there are fantastic tires and wheels available now for any kind of riding you'de want, and I can go as wide or narrow as I want with tires. I just got my first smartphone, an Iphone 5s, a few months ago. S much better than a flip phone which I was using prior. The GPS has already saved me on a ride and my wife can track my position if she gets worried, which she doesand that is just for starters. It's awesome. The functionality of a smartphone, especially the iphone, is top notch. Voicemail is easy to get to, not requiring any pin, but that may be different on android phones. Now with Rivs it's differentyou can have all the modern functionality you want with a riv if you choosejust build it up with modern components. Or just go oldschool, or just go thrifty or mix and match. Nothing weird on them. The beauty of a Riv is in it's versatility, ride...and, of course, headtube badges. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Re: The Rambouillet and Rivendell Models....better with age
This post seems to be drifting away without response and I'm reluctant to see that happen, so here goes: Within the past couple of months I have seen evening news segments containing man-on-the-street interviews of people favoring those older style cell phones that just flip open to be answered. I suppose this is no surprise, given the complications involved in answering some of the latest smart phones or iPhones currently on the market. Re: [RBW] Re: ClemSamples on the BLUG
Here's a good reason for more water bottle holders on a good "town" bike: If you're shopping, it's sometimes nice to have a bottle cage for a newly purchased bottle of something you got at the store. If the bottle's the right size, the cages can hold "non-athletic" drink containers. Seems fitting for a town bike. Better for a town bike that will be ready for "dirt sport" action like the Clem. -Original Message- From: Tim GavinSent: Mar 13, 2015 8:34 AM To: "rbw-owners-bunch@googlegroups.com" Subject: Re: [RBW] Re: ClemSamples on the BLUG They should add a second set of bottle cage bosses on the back of the seat tube. RE: [RBW] Re: ClemSamples on the BLUG
I have a Wilbury – no problem there, the rear brake is mounted on the midstay bridge, so the cable run is straight to the brake straddle cable. (For centerpulls; for sidepulls I think you can just install the cable upside down, no straddle required.) On the Clemmie-girl, the canti posts are up near the seat stay bridge, but the cable runs along the upper downtube, which meets the seat tube very low, well below the seat stay bridge – hence the need to figure out the cable run without a kink-inducing sharp turn downward. Something like that. [RBW] Re: Widest fender for 20 wheel?
Cody at Woody's Fenders would make such fenders for you. http://www.woodysfenders.com/store/ But they are much more expensive than most fenders. Also they are thicker than plastic / metal fenders, so it's possible that you don't have enough clearance. Takashi 2015年3月13日金曜日 10時34分33秒 UTC+9 Anton Tutter: I'll be taking delivery of a Bike Friday Hauladay cargo bike shortly and will need to outfit it with fenders. Here's the deal: the bike will come stock with 20x1.75 tires. I will want to immediately upgrade them to 20x2.0 Schwalbe Big Apples, or if the frame will fit even larger ones, 20x2.125 Schwalbe Big Bens. The problem is going to be sourcing fenders that fit. Both Planet Bike and SKS make fenders for 20 wheels, but the widths limit them for use with 1.75 wide tires. The Planet Bike fenders are 50mm wide (and I have these on another 20 wheeled bike with 20x1.75 tires, and it's a very tight fit). The SKS fenders are 55mm wide. I'm considering trying some VO stainless 60mm fenders for 26 wheels and re-radiusing them for 20 wheels, which will widen them significantly, but I've only ever done this for using 700C fenders on 650B applications, where the delta radius was only about an inch, and it's very easy. But going from 26 to 20 would require a delta radius of around 3! Does anyone know of any wider fenders that will work with 55 and even 60mm wide 20 tires? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group.
