[RBW] Re: 59 vs. 52 Clem L
late to the party but in a fairly recent blug Dave mantioned that Atlanti, Hunqs ,and HH's wait times were almost longer than customs. I suspect the fact that True Temper is no longer manufacturing frame tubing is a contributing factor and Riv/Waterford is sourcing frame tubing elsewhere...offhand I can't think of another US frame tube manufacturer, but someone on this list may know otherwise I guess if you want something you gotta jump on it A. Homer Hilsen, Atlantis, Hunqapillar Due to raw materials shortage and painfully long lead times we have to announce 8-month waits on these. That’s longer than customs, but hopefully will speed up soon. On Sunday, August 6, 2017 at 11:50:51 PM UTC-5, Joe Bernard wrote: > > This is good general advice about any Rivbike these days. The more substantial changes in the Clems are the now-straight seat stays and the smaller seat tube. The originals also had the "speed-blend nipples." A little surprised it comes with 9-speed. I just could not get the SunRace shifters to work for me, switched them out for stem shifters. Enjoy your new machine, love that acid green color! I got my Cheviot-green 52 CLEM L (complete) today; a couple of interesting notes: It uses a 9-speed drivetrain instead of 8 from the first run, and the SunRace upside-down-backwards friction shifters are the higher-level series with a click or friction option on the left-supposed-to-be-right shifter. If you want to go full click on the rear you can rearrange the shifters to outside the bar. I've been waiting for someone to mention this. I scanned the newsletter 3 times to find more information on the Clem based on the title and nothing was detailed on it. I assumed that another communication would be forthcoming to discuss the topic but nothing to date has been brought up about it. Good decision. I am 5'10" with a saddle height of 73.5 or so, depending. My 52cm Clementine is a perfect fit. The 59 is a BIG bike. This is good general advice about any Rivbike these days. The domestic frames tend to hold steady as available if you wait long enough, but that wait seems to be getting longer. The Taiwan models are available on the spot once released as 'for sale', but they all qualify as limited runs of one length or another. [RBW] Re: 59 vs. 52 Clem L
That's a good choice ! If it doesn't feel right, save your cash for another day or bike or whatever. Neither size may really suit you in a Clem. 7 cm. is just too much of a difference, even 4 is large. The one size fits many approach so reminds me of mainstream big brand bike sales which has been going since I first bought a bike in the 70's. A few sizes for a given bike, estimated to fit riders from 4'10" to 6'8". Imagine if pants came in 3 sizes only, oh the chaos ! Hmm, I'm going from a 45 to 52 and still will have a little more than a fistful of post showing. I'd be leary of a frame with the saddle slammed like your pic shows. I would get confirmed seatpost-to-headtube numbers and make sure you get a length that works with an Albatross. Keep in mind that you'll have more room with that bar: if you buy a 52 complete you may need to swap the Boscos out. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Re: 59 vs. 52 Clem L
One other thing to consider, is there a possibility you will share this bike with anyone or have guests who could use it? Since step through frames offer a lot of flexibility in sizing you may add that into your decision making process. If people shorter than you might use the bike then it adds to the versatility if you go with the smaller bike. If you may l Ian it to a taller person then perhaps the larger size might be a better option. I test road a few Mixtes at Riv and two sizes would fit but the smaller one felt a little cramped, not a lot but the larger bike felt better. [RBW] Re: 59 vs. 52 Clem L
I called, and so far two folks have agreed a 59 would work, but it probably would have the seat pretty much all the way down. It's a bummer that I'd have to spring for the wheels for the 52, but it's not such a big deal. It's more important that it fits! Anyway, how do you measure effective top tube length? Here's a picture of the 59 at what would be my saddle height. It does give me pause being so low. https://ibb.co/bMuh9v I do appreciate the advice. The top tube length is a bit tricky to compare. My brother's 54 Surly LHT clocks in at 55.5, and I could do more but 64 might be pushing it with my Albatross bars. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. I'm in a similar place Jay, put my name in for the 64 -L. ,and waiting on final dimensions for a decision. No bosco for me either, I'm 6'3" and a 59 wouldn't work for me in front-center, I need it longer. I don't need the 64cm seat tube height either, but I would still have a fistfull of post I suppose. I wish the Alba came in 56 and 58 too. I have 2 56 steel Alba's and the 55's curve is different from the 56, no thanks. A wider steel would be great. Enough of this 55 nonsense ! I recall when the Alba was sold in 55 and 56 GP wrote that even his daughter rode the 56, but now the 55 is supposedly alright for us adults ? Odd. There is a 56cm reach back steel bar sold by Blue Lug I may consider, the B356. The "pneubar" that Riv is working on is unknown as of yet, but hopefully it will be 56 or wider and steel. A Surly Open bar is also up for consideration, but that depends on the overall reach of the 64 ! I already have a 60 Bombadil, which has the longest reach of any stock Riv made for it's size, so I'd want no less.
