Re: [Repeater-Builder] 600 - 10k ohm Interface
Thanks everyone, I think I have a number of ideas to try. The unit has a transformer inside, 600/600ohm, the output is floating, so live and ground should be able to be connected across the output. The TX has the same transformer 600/600ohm, but the controller to the TX is a 600ohm line anyway, so it should be fine (by my understanding) For those interested the units are Tait Repeater modules. The reason for the request, was the matching, and also I have one receiver that has bag DTMF twist, falsing. Unable to use DMTF blanking, as it does it so much with voices. Have setup the radio/controller as required, and tested. Thought a impedance mis-match. Regards Kevin. - Original Message - From: John J. RE: [Repeater-Builder] 600 - 10k ohm Interface
John's correct..a low impedance output will usually drive a higher impedance input withno problem...try it and see if it works, Kevin. The reverse (high impedance output driving low impedance input) requires more "engineering" .like a cheap audio transformer ? Re: [Repeater-Builder] 600 - 10k ohm Interface
Kevin, In most audio work, 10kohms is considered a bridging impedance. However, it usually is unbalanced while 600 ohms is usually balanced. If the 600 ohm output is from a transformer with neither side grounded, you should be able to simply connect the 10k load directly to the 600 ohm source. If a ground loop exists and hum occurs, then a matching transformer is called for. Radio Shack has them in stock. 73, Eric Lemmon WB6FLY Kevin Natalia wrote: Hi All, I need a simple interface for a 600 ohm output radio to a controller which accepts 10k ohm. This is a RX not TX. RE: [Repeater-Builder] 600 - 10k ohm Interface
Terminate the 600 Ohm output with a 680 or 570 Ohm resistor then connect to the controller.. This will make the source happy. If it overdrives the controller, add a 4.7K to 10K ohm resistor in series to swamp the input to taste.. I am making an assumption that the controller and the receiver are in close proximity and that line balance is not an issue and isolation is not needed. Ssb From: Richard W. Simplest way is with a standart 600 to 10k transformer. Kevin Natalia wrote: Hi All, I need a simple interface for a 600 ohm output radio to a controller which accepts 10k ohm. This is a RX not TX. If you have enough voltage to drive the controler you do not normally need to worry about matching the impedances. __ Do you Yahoo!? Re: [Repeater-Builder] 600 - 10k ohm Interface
Well, memory was incorrect. Radio Shack does not have anything that close. They have 1K CT to 8 ohm and another 1:1 for 600-900 ohms. As far as being a purist, I was assuming that it was already tried and didn't work well.
