I don't really mind about missing 'musical reference' as Rosegarden is established as a name for a musical app (at least in the connoisseurs' circle :-) #1's OK. I like #5 much better. Transparent against the default Ubuntu background looks OK. Against backgrounds I use - rotating photos that I've taken or graphics that I like - would just make it hide more effectively. I usually start Rosegarden from icons on the XFCE tool bar I set up at the bottom of the screen. Those icons are rather small. 5. is fun, but would do a test making the leaf smaller and rotating the piano (anti)clockwise (so that it hints to the matrix editor) :-P No. Keyboards aren't oriented sideways. When you're playing one, they're horizontally laid out in front of you. I have no use whatever for the matrix editor, so see no need to stress it. I understand what they are, they're just a great big barrier. One thing that sets Rosegarden apart (for me) from other sequencers is that you're not stuck with a matrix editor. -- David W. Something in your post, or David's comments gave me a mindset that the icon should include a rose -- I don't know if that is really appropriate / required, but nothing in #5 looks like a rose to me. #9 has some appeal to me, I like the roses, but something about it isn't quite appealing -- maybe I'd like it better if the stems were under the roses rather than on top, and maybe triplets with different notes (i.e., the roses not all in a line but staggered (or ascending or descending). > Thanks for sharing! > > Opinions by option number: > > 1. I rather liked the geometrical ones (6, 7, 8) that everyone else seems so averse to! I do agree that 1 is quite likeable though. I didn't go for 2, 3, 4, or 9 for one reason or another. Ok, another comment about #9 (added to my previous comment about maybe inverting the whole thing, showing triplets (or 3 notes, maybe an eighth and two sixteenths and maybe staggered, ascending, or descending. I guess I don't like the circular "buds" behind (well, currently above) the red roses -- I wonder what it would look like without those. Maybe ascending, with 2 sixteenths followed by an eighth, with the stems underneath and a sloped "bar" (not sure of the right word for that). Like David said, thanks for sharing (or asking for opinions)! Top posting for variety -- not really -- this is a general comment without specifics. ;-) I just realized that the icons are shown both in the upper left corner (large) and icon sized down in the group of icons -- I didn't really notice / look at those at first, and may change my opinion after spending some time looking at the small icons. I always have a light background vs. a dark background, I guess I'll want to think about that, also. I like option 1 best. If the stem was bent differently then it could look like clef, which would then suggest music.
