[sdre-l]: sdre shn server + show request
using the info i got on the list here, i just made SHNs of "flatland spider," "the onlies," and "bucket of chicken" all from the original vinyl. they sound WONDERFUL... much better than the MP3s that are being passed around. do we have a server to host them yet? and while everyone's asking for shows... does anyone know of a recording of the show at UW, april 26 1999? i'm only interested in the last song... the "loud" version of "days were golden" that they supposedly only played that night... i was there, and it ruled. if someone has it let me know... -- e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] web: http://www.ysib.com/anthony/ jabber: [EMAIL PROTECTED] irc: "Famous" on EFNet, "ManicPop" on DALnet
Re: [sdre-l]: question........
Just a question but was Will in any foo videos? he was in the videos for "i'll stick around" and "big me." he also performed in the "i'm ok, eur-ok -- foo fighters world tour" special that was on mtv after the release of the first album, and the performance of "this is a call" from that show is often shown as a seperate video on MTV2 and MTVX. the rest of the foo videos feature taylor hawkins drumming. oh yeah, and since i'm one of the few on the list that doesn't hate foo fighters... congrats to nate and the band for the two grammy awards, "best rock album" and "best short-form music video." personally i think both sdre and foo have survived their line-up changes gracefully (both deciding to become three-pieces, how odd) and if they're both putting out (in my opinion) good music, who cares who's in what band? although i think nate's talent was showcased more in his SDRE days, the foo's "there is nothing left to lose" record isn't just stand and pluck notes either.
[sdre-l]: TRT
since everyone's sounding off... this was something i posted to the official bulletin board a while ago: - i'm a huge fan of sunny day real estate, have been since diary. i've seen them a bunch of times, have tons of their posters and cds and vinyl all over my bedroom, and i listen to them practically every day. my ears perk up when i overhear people talking about sunny days or real estate, even when they have nothing to do with the band. when i found out they were getting back together i screamed and cried and called everyone i knew. diary changed my life before i even put it into my cd player, just thumbing through the lyrics on the drive back home from the record store (i was 14 or so at the time) made me want to just break down and cry and scream and i listened to it every night for two months to the point where i had to beg a friend to take it off my hands for a few months just because i couldn't sleep anymore. of course, i was in a point in my life where i was very depressed (over a girl, of course) and that's what made me click with the album so much in the first place. i've bought diary three times. the first copy got stolen, the second copy got scratched from me taking it everywhere, and the third copy a got a few weeks ago. to this day i call diary my favorite album. but, i can hardly listen to it anymore. not because it's emotionally overwhelming for me like it when i was 15, but because i'm not at that point anymore. i have a girlfriend and we've been together for a year. i'm out of school and i have a full-time job. i'm rarely ever depressed. although "how it feels to be something on" and "the rising tide" don't sonically and emotionally blow me away like diary and lp2 *DID*, they are more well-crafted musical works of art then the past two records are. sunny day has moved on from that era, just as i have. and although i still pop diary into my cd player every once in a while (and i still can't wait to see them play more older stuff live), i listen to the rising tide almost every day (not including in-store play). something as simple as the rolling bassline at the end of "tearing in my heart" capitivates me more than the passionate wails of "48." - and that still holds true to this day (except i split up with my girlfriend). so, maybe i'm one of the few... but i'm an old school sdre fan that totally understands (at least, i think i do) the direction they are going... i absolutely adore the rising tide. sure, i have a few problems with it (just like everyone other sdre record, and every other album i own for that matter), a few of the lyrics are "awkward," "television" (although i do like it) reminds me way tooo much of pearl jam's "jeremy" (although supposedly the band didn't even realize it)... but for the most part it's an amazing, well-crafted album with just enough production. whereas diary was about blowing you away with distorted guitar and screaming, and hiftbso was about proving that their music could be just as emotional without much of either, TRT has just enough diary-style rocking and hiftbso-style mellowness and superb vocals. the lyrics are a departure from the earlier records, and i think a lot of people get confused by that... but i like them. at first, it was almost kind of shocking to hear jeremy sing lines like "let's say you found a gun... how would your bad side burn?" and that kind of made it cool. to me sunny day has always been more about the way the words are sung then the actual lyrics... diary has a few lyrics that sound like bad high-school poetry, but the passion in jeremy's vocals communicates so much more. just like in TRT, although one's "everything and everyone..." is tremendously clich, you get a feeling that the band means way more than that. every song on TRT communicates a specific feeling or message and i love them all. what the hell do i listen to besides sunny day, you ask? i listen to my fair share of the emo/indie stuff out there: cursive, juliana theory, at the drive-in, death cab for cutie, mineral, modest mouse, built to spill, pedro the lion, elliott smith, etc... however my music collection contains albums by people from garth brooks to snoop dogg. in fact i listen to a lot of hip-hop like wu-tang, jurassic 5, black eyed peas... and yes, even eminem, more "mainstream" rock like deftones, smashing pumpkins, and even (gasp!) foo fighters, neo-punk shiznit like nofx, h2o, 88 fingers louie, millencolin, afi... white-boy funk like dub narcotic, soul coughing... "fun" stuff like the presidents, weezer, nerf herder... and since i'm from seattle, i have my fair share of nirvana, pearl jam, and soundgarden records... basically i listen to everything but sugar pop, techno, limp bizkit-type bands, and so-called "easy listening." but my favorite band of all time continues to be sunny day real estate... they have yet to let me down. i just have this crazy feeling that

the first pressing of the "diary" LP is black. not very elaborate. you are probably referring to the limited re-released version that came out in 1998, which is supposedly green, although i've never seen it. or is there another version i don't know about? - E-Mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Web: http://www.ysib.com/anthony/ IRC: "Famous" on EFNet, channels #Cursive and #YSIB Jabber: [EMAIL PROTECTED] --
Re: [sdre-l]: Jeremy Enigk online
[EMAIL PROTECTED] was set up by williamson management for e-mail pertaining to jeremy. supposedly whatever was sent there, greg would forward to jeremy or he'd end up reading it at some point. but since sunny day is no longer with williamson management, i doubt greg does anything with those messages. jenigk signing on was probably just greg checking to see if anything was actually in that box. by the way, AIM sucks.

RE: [sdre-l]: Lyric Writing
okay... here's the breakdown. if i understand correctly, "47" and "48" were the 47th and 48th songs written by sdre (in whatever form they were in at the time) before jeremy joined, and seven, 8, and #9 were the seventh, eighth, and ninth songs written after he joined. in circles -- i'm willing to say this was mostly jeremy, just because he uses this kind of imagery (wandering around doors, for example) in his solo stuff... grendel -- all jeremy. he made up the lyrics after dan was jamming on what became the song grendel, and he converted the lines to greek (most of the song is in greek) as far as the pink record, there never really were set lyrics... besides rodeo jones and 8 (both recorded previously) and friday (having already been written out for the 7", although re-recorded for the album), jeremy pretty much made the rest of the stuff up as he went... the band was pretty much already split up by vocal recording time. that's why dan doesn't sing on the pink record (except for on "8," which was recorded previously). also, and i forget to ask this when i chatted with the band a couple weeks ago, is that dan singing back-up on "red elephant"? just the very last line... "very well" or whatever it says... there's a seperate voice, and it doesn't sound like jeremy overdubbing. you make the call. j'nuh was totally jeremy, it's about a childhood experience of his. spade and parade, bucket of chicken -- who knows. hiftbso -- pretty equally split between jeremy and dan, or so i hear. 100 million: mostly dan i believe, i remember an interview where he was going off about the envirornmental issues covered in the album. guitar and video games, estya -- i think it's safe to say these are written by jeremy... especially considering he played them at a solo show shortly after the band's first reunited show. the rising tide: when i chatted with the band a few weeks ago, jeremy said dan wrote most of the lyrics on this one. however "tearing in my heart" and "the ocean" are all jeremy... in fact they were originally solo jeremy tunes (although he never played them) as far as why dan doesn't sing anymore... i read somewhere that they said his vocal style just doesn't fit with the new songs, although he does sing backup on roses in water (listen really carefully at the end during the "ahhh... ahhh" part) i think that this is how it goes... they jam out, and jeremy mumbles/sings stuff over the music and then dan and jeremy sit down and make a story to what it sounds like jeremy might be saying. i think that the reason the lyrics are so jumbled on LP2 is cause the never really sat down and wrote them out. they just talked about them so jeremy had to wing it. good theory. basically that's how it worked from what i understand... for example with "astiocles"... jeremy was just making up sounds while jamming and it sounded like "astiocles" so jeremy and dan decided to make up a fake mythological character (yes, as opposed to those *real* mythological characters... eh, you know what i mean) to go along with it.

(of course, this photos are copyright the seattle times, so i guess i can't legally really give you permission to do anything, can i?) anyway, at least check them out... i think they scanned rather well. the full text of the article is at: http://archives.seattletimes.nwsource.com/cgi-bin/texis/web/vortex/display?slug=sunn20date=2620query=sunny+day+ real+estate and thank god it's there, because i was about to type it all out! anyway, the article is cool... kinda dumbed down for the newspaper crowd, but definitely shines some light on will's experiences...
[sdre-l]: Re: snibe, artwork, other stuff (seven)
the sound clip before tearing in my heart is will's sister from years ago... she walked around france with a tape recorder and recorded kids playing, and that's her talking... sdre signed a two-album deal on time bomb... anyway, since i mentioned seven in my last show review i've gotten a few e-mails from people that mentioned they saw them play seven at a show... yes, they did open with seven at one of the shows on the hiftbso tour (can't remember which) and they did play it at bumbershoot 98 (i was there!). but it was very obvious they were doing it just to please the fans (or in the case of bumbershoot, make the people that didn't know them very well go "oh yeah, this is the band that does that song" since it got a lot of airplay on KNDD in seattle back in the day). when they played it, jeremy was not into it at all... it looked like he couldn't wait for it to be over. they've mentioned a few times they're tired of it, and i certainly don't care... there are so many other better songs of theirs. especially if they don't want to play it that much. but, like i said, everyone was yelling for seven every time i saw them on the hiftbso tour... and i didn't hear anyone yelling for it last night... which i thought was nice.
[sdre-l]: seattle show!!!
okay, here i go... and yes, john, you can use this on your page. there was a huge line waiting outside the theater until the doors swung open about 6:30... i walked in and saw FOUR new shirts for sale!! 1. a red shirt with the statue on the front and the diary-era "sunny day real estate" typewriter logo on the back 2. a blue shirt that was the same, except it had all the tour dates 3. a black shirt with a black and white (NOT grayscale, just black and white... like the picture in the cd bookelt) picture of the three guys 4. the AWESOMEST THING EVER... a TSMAP shirt!!! the cover of TSMAP (minus the words) on the front, and sunny day real estate in white and orange (like it is on tsmap) on the back! i'm wearing it now... also for sale... PILLOWCASES! i couldn't believe this... and unfortunately i didn't have enough money to pick a set up... they were plain white but had "morning comes in the dream before we rise" (a line from "the rising tide" -- if you folks haven't memorized the lyrics yet) stitched into them... very very cool!! also some stickers with the fly on them... no knife was great. these guys were tight beyond belief... not a missed note, a skipped beat, the sound was perfect... just about the best opening act i've ever seen... considering the fact they only played four songs i knew (the ones they played off their latest album), and considering they were opening for my all-time favorite band, they put on a great set. sunny day. suy day. there was a huge sdre fly on will's bass drum head! it looked hand-drawn to me, although i'm not sure... also, there was a big feature about sunny day in the seattle times, and it shows will's drums with the TSMAP cover on the front of the bass drum... maybe he's switching from night to night... i usually bring along pencil and paper to write down the setlist... this time i forgot... but i'm pretty sure i remember it all... Killed By An Angel One In Circles The Ocean Snibe Disappear Guitar and Video Games Tearing In My Heart Fool In The Photograph J'nuh Faces In Disguise (encore:) Pillars 8 that's right, folks 8 it was incredible... will went nuts... for those of you disappointed that will has been holding back on the fills and such, you will look forward to this... will was going even crazier than the recorded version... anyway, i'm not sure what to think... i don't think i can really bring myself to say anything negative about sdre, ever... i don't think my fingers will let me type anything bad... and this show definetly does not deserve a negative review... but this was not the best sdre show i've ever seen. the set was too lop-sided as far as the new stuff goes (i know, it's the release day show, and they have to play the new stuff... and don't get me wrong, i wanted to hear all the new stuff... too bad there wasn't time for my favorites too) and there were a few other small problems too: the new bassist... was just a bassist. he played the songs, and that was that. definitely didn't do justice to nate's, jeff's or jeremy's basslines... it was enough to sound "right" but not enough to sound as great as nate or jeff or joe... some of the stuff was really simplified. the 3rd guitar/keyboard guy, however... this guy rules!! the keyboard lines sounded great, and he did the backup vocals... i'm not trying to say he can sing like jeremy, but they managed to find a guy that really carries the backup vocals perfectly... for example the end of snibe sounded perfect, he sounded just like jeremy does on the recording. they also had a dude on a few of the songs that played tambourine and triangle! who is this guy?!?!?! how did he get the greatest job in the world? i could do what he was doing, why can't i tour with sdre? i think he was a roadie or something, but still, i'd move equipment around if i could tour with sdre... as long as they at least gave me a sandwich every night, they wouldn't have to pay me... in circles was in standard tuning... or in whatever tuning "killed by an angel" and "one" are in... because the song sounded very different, and they didn't switch guitars... jeremy played the same guitar all night except for the acoustic in "the ocean"... dan commented after a few tunes that "we're shaking the rust off" -- that's exactly what this show was. there was something wrong with snibe. there was this big high-pitched whine during the whole thing... most of the people who came to the show with me were trying to convince me it was the guitar... i think something was wrong. jeremy was having a really hard time with it... missing lines and he started to look like he was really pissed... like he wanted to stop but the rest of the band didn't... i'm not sure exactly what happened. the sound was better for no knife than it was for sdre. jeremy's vocal microphone was not built to handle his voice... during the "strange" in "one" the microphone just couldn't take it... and dan's mic
[sdre-l]: record release party!!! RULED!!!
hey folks, just got back from the seattle record release party. IT FUCKING RULED we had to wait outside (the store was closed) forever... actually until 11:30 or so... then the doors swung open. i bought the cd, the green double vinyl, and got a free shirt and *huge* (bigger than i am) poster. chatted with the band too. interesting things that came up in conversation: * william said the clip before the "tearing in my heart" (the kids) is will's sister from many years ago. she was in france and walking around with a tape recorder and recording kids playing * it was time bomb's idea to have no knife come along on the tour... however dan, at least, really likes them * i mentioned to jeremy that the mp3 of him on nick barber's answering machine is circulating around the internet... he started freaking out about how upset he was all those years ago... "i went over to his house and he was just wearing that necklace... i couldn't believe it!" * will saw the american pie soundtrack sitting in a bin at the store and mentioned the sunny day poster in the movie... he had no idea it was there until he saw the movie... * someone tried to get will to autograph a foo fighters poster and he refused... "i can't sign that..." * there is going to be at least one "new" song from the diary/lp2 era played on this tour... * there are no plans for any singles/b-sides right now... although they already do have a new (untitled) song that isn't on the record that dan said "will probably be our next single" (?) * according to the poster that i got... sdre is playing vancouver bc on 8/2... * my girlfriend laurie thinks will is hot, my friend chris thinks jeremy is hot, however they both agreed dan is not hot ("he's got that neck-beard going," said chris) * they plan to stay a three-piece (as far as recording goes) as of right now... the next album should be the same way... * jeremy has been playing guitar since he was 12... * i remember someone on the list asking why nick barber didn't come along as sdre's bassist... i mentioned this to jeremy and he said that he's really busy now... not with music, but with his family and his son... jeremy also mentioned he doesn't plan to ever have children... * will spent all kinds of time talking about star wars memorbilia with a few fans... i'll remember more stuff later... i can't wait for later today - e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] why should i? because: http://www.ysib.com/ cursive: http://www.computela.com/cursive/ subset: http://www.computela.com/subset/ irc: "Famous" on EFNet, channels #SDRE and #YSIB -

(my girlfriend recently got these records, that's when i noticed the differences.) my guess is that's stuff that sub pop wanted to do all along, but the band didn't want them to do... and now that they aren't on the label anymore, there's nothing they can do about it. or something. patiently awaiting all the "dude, is that really the tracklist? i don't know about that... dude" replies... -- anthony p.s. i now have a job in the electronics / music department at a fred meyer retail store in renton, wa (renton center). i play sdre in-store all the time... so if you ever happen to stop by - e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] why should i? because: http://www.ysib.com/ sunny day real estate: http://www.sunnydayrealestate.com/ irc: "Famous" on EFNet, channels #SDRE and #YSIB -

you can get mp3s of the original versions of song #8 and song #9 from http://karl23.ml.org in the rare tracks section. these are from before jeremy joined the band and dan sings lead vocals. i love dan and all of his writing but i am not a huge fan of his voice. sounds very radio modern rock to me. but judge for yourself. or just listen and don't judge at all. two corrections the site is http://karl23.ml.org/sdreaa/ and the songs that dan sings are "flatland spider" and "the onlies" not 8 and 9... jeremy had joined by then and to anyone who got confused (a few of you) dan is not planning on doing a solo album, it was just an idea (a very cool one, in my opinion) that someone brought up. - e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] home page: http://www.foxinternet.net/web/manicpop/ why should i? because: http://www.ysib.com/ sunny day real estate: http://www.sunnydayrealestate.com/ irc: "Famous" on EFNet, channels #SuperDeluxe and #SDRE -

hey... i've gotten a few e-mails recently on how to get into #SDRE chat, so here's a repost of something i wrote a few months ago. e-mail me with any questions you have. - alrighty, for everyone who has asked, follow these steps to get set up to particpate in #SDRE, the sunny day chat channel. this is written at the novice level, so for some of you it may seem like overkill, but i don't want to get any e-mails back saying, "you told me to run the program, how do i do that?" also, for any mac users out there, i'll have a tutorial for getting set up with ircle (www.ircle.com i believe) in the near future... I.DOWNLOADING AND INSTALLING MIRC Load up your web browser and browse to the site: http://www.mirc.co.uk/ Once the page is loaded, click on the "Download mIRC" link. If you use Windows 95, 98, or NT, choose one of the download links under that section. Try to find one geographically close to you. (I am in Seattle, so I usually select "mIRC 5.51 (32) in California" or "mIRC 5.51 (32) in Alberta" since those are the two closest.) This will download the mIRC software to your computer. Make sure to take note of where you are saving the file, so you can get to the install program later. After the download, find the install program on your computer and run it, if your browser didn't already do that for you. Hit "OK" to all the questions presented. It should then tell you that mIRC installation was successful. II.STARTING MIRC AND SETTING UP A CONNECTION Run mIRC from Start Menu | Programs | mIRC. A little window will pop-up with author's face and registration info. (Oh yeah, did I forget to mention, mIRC is shareware, and you should pay for mIRC if you use it, although you don't *have* to.) Click the "OK" box there and you will find yrself at the Options menu. Fill out the four fields: Full Name: you don't have to use your full name, or even your actual name. a pseudonym or nice SDRE quote will do nicely. this shows up when people run a WHOIS on you to request more information about who you are. remember that on IRC, people can only know as much about you as you want to tell them. E-Mail Address: you can type anything you want in here, as long as it has an @ in it. this address doesn't show up to anyone. (it's only there to help set up an ident, which you don't need to worry about now.) Nickname: the name you want to go by on IRC. your "handle" as it were. you must make this 1-9 letters. Alternate: another nickname you would like to use if someone already has the nickname you specified. (Specifying an alternate nickname is optional. When you connect, it will try to use the nickname you specified. If someone else on IRC is using it, it will try the alternate if you specified one. If you didn't specify an alternate, or if the alternate is taken too, you will see the message "Register First." upon connecting, and you will once again have an opportunity to specify a nickname.) Okay, here's the only complicated part, specifying an IRC server. #SDRE is on the EFNet IRC network, so you have to find a server that will connect you to EFNet. There are a few different ways to go about this, but here's what I recommend you do: Click "Add" -- a new window will pop-up Under "Description" and "IRC Server" enter: irc.idle.net Click "Add" You are now configured to participate in EFNet IRC. With any luck, you will never have to do any of this stuff again. III.GETTING CONNECTED AND ON TO #SDRE If mIRC isn't running, start it up. When the options menu comes back up, click on "Connect to IRC server!" (Make sure the irc.idle.net connection you made is the one selected in the pop-up menu.) Once you connect, a window will come up with a preset list of channels you can join. Hit "Cancel" to close it, then type this: /join #SDRE There you are! Unless you hit a slow time, there should be a few other SDRE fans there who want to chat with you. On the right side of the window will be a list of other people who are on #SDRE. For the most part, just start typing. You may want to just watch for a second so you can see what people are talking about. Although it is the #SDRE, and normally only frequented by Sunny Day fans, the topic of conversation is not always Sunny Day Real Estate. The goal here is to have a channel where SDRE fans can meet, but don't be surprised if they are talking about anything but Sunny Day. IV.COMMANDS There are tons of commands to use on IRC, here are a few simple ones. All commands start with a slash (/). These examples assume your nickname is "SDREFan". /whois -- brings up detailed info on the nickname you specify. for example: /whois Famous /me -- performs an action is whatever channel you are on. this is useful if you want to punch someone, kiss someone, jump out a window, etc. for example, if you type "/me punches Famous in the nose" you would see "* SDREFan punches Famous in the nose" it will make more sense once you give it a
Re: [sdre-l]: ??
ANSIGOD, help us help you. If you like, I'll make a page that tells people how to chat. If you like it, use it on the site. dan this is mostly for daniel here, but i thought i'd post to the list since it involves the sunny day community ansi and i have already been brainstorming ideas to best incorporate irc into the official site. what we're thinking about is an irc page that has instructions for getting hooked up for all platforms (i already have windows and mac tutorials written, i don't know if tutorials for other platforms are *necessary* but i might write them anyway), a "profiles" section were channel regulars can have info about themselves on-line, a "logs" section for when a band member or someone else *interesting* stops by, and other cool stuff. we are also thinking of setting up a bot to run off sunnydayrealestate.com, as opposed to the one i have now. joe is the man. right now he has an old mac classic, and it won't really do much more than check his e-mail, but he's going to be getting a new PC by the end of the year, and he's very interested on getting on irc and chatting w/ fans and the like. i don't know how likely it is to get anyone else from the band in the channel, but it's possible. (jeremy participated in an on-line chat session via audionet, i think, during the rotfq tours.) anyway, that's about it... people w/ cool ideas: e-mail me off-list. later - e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] home page: http://www.foxinternet.net/web/manicpop/ why should i? because: http://www.ysib.com/ sunny day real estate: http://www.sunnydayrealestate.com/ irc: "Famous" on EFNet, channels #SuperDeluxe and #SDRE -

Re: [sdre-l]: #sdre chat
the #sdre chatroom is on Efnet but i saw one on Dalnet too so i don't really know which one is the 'official' ..if there is one. neither is really "official"... but the one referenced on the list here is the one on the EFNet... and is also frequented by a lot of listers, and ansigod himself. so (no dis to the dalnet folks, if any are here) the EFNet one is the place to go. i'm personally there just about every night, and also run the bot "Lizadrin" that is there now. also, some upcoming things: ansi and i have been talking w/ joe about stopping by the channel to chat w/ some fans... he's getting a new computer around the end of the year, and is very excited about stopping by. there is going to be an upcoming section of sunnydayrealestate.com that ansi and i are working on that will probably have #sdre channel users profiles and logs. we're also going to set up a new bot to replace lizadrin and run it off sunnydayrealestate.com.
[sdre-l]: fasdgf
for some reason i've recieved a lot of e-mail, public and private about what i've said. some people agreeing with me, appluading me for sticking up for the actual rules of the list when no one wants to do it anymore, and some people criticizing me and saying i'm trying to "enforce the law" while the list owner is out of town. i'm tired of responding. so i just won't anymore. considered this my last post on such topics. ever. i ask that you read the sdre-l welcome message and follow the rules stated therein. i ask that you keep in mind everything you send is sent to 200+ people. i ask that you keep in mind for the two or three people that might respond to yr off-topic post, there are many more who are pestered daily by off-topic clutter. many people who have i have met in #SDRE chat are former members of the mailing list who left because they couldn't handle the amount of mail that has nothing to do w/ sunny day. it's not fair to make this list, which should be for all sunny day fans, a place where people don't want to be. i pretty much have to be on this list... since i run #SDRE chat (which is soon becoming the official sunny day chat channel... stay tuned...), my own audio site, and help w/ the official site. i stay on here to keep informed. but i really don't like it anymore, and i'm not alone. you can call me an asshole for that if you like... but why? anyway, anyway... here is some cool info i got from joe... first of all, for those wondering about the new "loud" ending of "days were golden"... so far they've only played it that way at the UW show in april. basically it's up to jeremy every night if they want to do it or not, and the show at UW was the only time so far. also... the set lists are going to remain pretty much the same until they begin work on the new album... but once they start playing shows on the fourth album, expect not only new songs live, but some old songs they have yet to play.

Re: [sdre-l]: sort of official lyrics (no)
yup... i noticed this too. i don't want to speak for brian, but since he is out of town (i believe) i should probably explain... when sunnydayrealestate.com was still getting off the ground, the guys in the band said they'd provide lyrics to the pink album and other rarities for the site. so, while brian was working on the site, he put in spaces and made files that would hold the lyrics once he recieved a copy of them. he then later got word that those lyrics would remain unavailable. those files that were going to hold those lyrics are still on the server, and like the earlier poster commented, you can't get to them from any link, you have to guess at the filenames. but, keep in mind, the only file that has anything listed is "theo b." and those are just unofficial lyrics that were pasted in as a test. NO official lyrics exist for lp2! there's nothing on the server that anyone is trying to hide from you, really... the only place those lyrics exist are in jeremy's head. now, people, let's find something more productive to do than snooping around web directories. hello, i don't know if you already know this but i have a page of theo b lyrics on the official sunny day real estate website.there is no links to it you have to just know the address of the page it is : - e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] home page: http://www.foxinternet.net/web/manicpop/ why should i? because: http://www.ysib.com/ sunny day real estate: http://www.sunnydayrealestate.com/ irc: "Famous" on EFNet, channels #SuperDeluxe and #SDRE -

So go see Damien. Also Erika Jacobs plays cello on the record. Erika was in Enigk's touring orchestra. for all ya'll who says death cab for cutie open for sdre, erika plays on cello on death cab's cd too. also... sdre is playing the breakroom in seattle on 5/30... i'm sure the breakroom is a 21+ club, which surprised me because i haven't known sunny day to play 21+ shows, at least not the *reunited* sdre. ah well. does anyone know for sure if this show is 21+ or not? i'm 18... so i'd have to find "some other way" to get in

Re: [sdre-l]: incredible show.... of course
Just to answer all questions about the "new song played during the sound check", it was not played. yup... i've heard that there will be no new tunes live until they start working on the new record... But the biggest change was a new "loud" portion of Days Were Golden. Will is usually playing his intricate rim-tap thing basically the whole time, but he slammed away on the cymbals and the whole song got loud for a while, I think Jeremy added another verse, but I'm not sure. this was amazing. it took everyone totally by surprise... at first i thought they were about to play another song. there was a totally new verse too. no extra verse on the bridge on "in circles" though. okay, a lot of people have already posted about the show, so i'll just throw in some random comments. joe sang back-up on almost every song, a lot more than dan... dan commented on how he "was never much for school spirit, but it's great to back here" still a lot of dumbasses yelling for "seven"... grr... one guy even went as far as, while they were switching guitars, to yell "that better be the guitar you play 'seven' on!" a request for "48" was greeted with "i like that request, i wish we knew them all" from dan. i've had death cab for cutie's cd for a while now... but their live show blew me away. they are very, very few bands out there that could follow death cab's set. sdre is, of course, one of them. they sold the lp2 and hiftbso shirts and stuff (that you can order from sunnydayrealestate.com) at the show... a few of my friends ran into dan before the show, and asked what they were going to play, and dan said "we'll be playing a few songs we haven't played in a while." which (although sunny day was of course beyond awesome) left me kind of disappointed because it was pretty much the same set they always play. they played shudder to think over the p.a. between bands, that was kinda cool... there was this really cool chick who gave me a pen so i could write down the set list... if yr reading, you rule! speaking of cool people, mad shout-outz to the famous matt carlson (if he's still on the list), alicia, and those other cool people i always see at sunny day shows... in another kinda related note, i'm convinced that as far as hot chicks go... female sunny day fans are #1 on the list. stella marris was pretty cool... it has the guitar player from tool my friend alex, between one of their songs, yelled, "that guy from tool rules!" really loud... and the whole band stopped and looked at each other... that was pretty funny will didn't waste any time, that shirt was off by the third song. going to denny's after seeing sdre is about the biggest anti-climax ever. - e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] home page: http://www.foxinternet.net/web/manicpop/ why should i? because: http://www.ysib.com/ sunny day real estate: http://www.sunnydayrealestate.com/ irc: "Famous" on EFNet, channels #SuperDeluxe and #SDRE -
Re: [sdre-l]: OTS--SoRT OF
During the Knnd Radio interviews that sdre minus jeremy did, will and dan said that Neurosis was the main influence behind the song seven. I found that very interesting being that i have been a hardcore neurosis fan for many many years. When i did the favorite bands poll i didn't notice one vote for neurosis... Are there any other neurosis fans out there??? Please respond privately, i just got a promo copy of their new one that is coming out in may, so i can write a review for anyone who is interested? um... i don't think they meant the band neurosis (whoever that may be)... i think they meant neurosis itself was the inspiration. i think it was supposed to be what i like to call "humorous." hmmm... maybe not.
Re: [sdre-l]: bass
I kinda think that dan and jeremy wrote all the bass lines for the albums, because if you've heard nate/palmer/skyward in other bands it's nothing like the style in sdre..just a thought. mabye someone who knows that band could ask them who wtites the bass lins. also I was wondering how long it takes them to write a song, anyone know? jeff wrote all the basslines for hiftbso with some help from dan. as far as nate songs, i'm not sure... i know he wrote at least some of the basslines. the reason the style sounds different is because the band style is different... if you are good you can accomodate. (for example, i play drums in a punk band, and when i try to play other styles of music, they end up sounding punk. this means i am not a very good drummer, which is true.) woah... just noticed that the deftones recorded "adrenaline" at bad animals in seattle... same place diary was mixed. interesting. also... did anyone notice sdre is on mp3.com?

'It's like the whole U2 thing, basically about God and love with a girl. I read an intreview with Bono where he was talking about "With Or Without You."
