What's there to discuss? They killed off Softimage, and now they worried 
if we're running legit? LOL!

It´s the first time I realize there is a catch that means when I´m on 
subscription support,
I get to upgrade existing my perpetual license but then am supposed to 
stop using
any of my previously existing (or upgraded) licenses once I decide to 
stop subscription.


By paying more money for updated I take away my right to use software 
that I was led

to believe comes with a perpetual license to start with?

Sofar, I was under the impression ANY perpetual license I purchased or 
upgraded to sofar

would be perpetual and stay perpetual.

I´m pretty sure there´s a german law forbidding to force a customer to 
wave away his right

to an existing perpetual license the moment he buys support...

Doesn´t make sense and is a pretty sick stunt to try to pull off to 
begin with.


I just paid my subscription.

If that really means you guys think I shouldn´t be allowed to use Maya 
4.5 if I need to, think again.


If that´s what you guys want to pull, we´ll most likely have to part in 
February 2017.

for a network floating license the “feature” is obviously just to keep you on 
subscription however for the user the licensing system does all the work it 
should do,  it only allows you to use the number of licenses you purchased, 
whether that be version 1 or the latest, really “should” make no difference to 
Autodesk (in theory, from a $ stand point, that is a different story).  All in 
all it is a very shady business practice.

Hey there!

You guys at Autodesk really rock! I also heard about this almost rude AD 
letter form a couple of friends. First killing off our beloved Softimage 
without ANY appropriate replacement. Secondly having the brass to ask 
for, or better, demand further money from your customers, without any 
further support for the product they bought (Softimage in this cas..), 
but the only "benefit" to open up old projects? You guys at AD really 
know what caring about customers really means. But, right, you are so 
busy with "delivering better software, faster".. I know ;)

Am I not allowed any SI version anymore from when that contract was active?
If so, how in the hell can I open up old projects, even for migration, if that 
is not allowed anymore? This letter makes absolutely no sense to me.

So can someone on this list that is AD, explain what the heck this letter is 
about?

Problem solved...
After going back to registeronce and getting a new license file, there does 
appear to have been something wrong with my original license file,
dating from the time when the MayaS 2016 bundle was first released, as it 
was missing an "INCREMENT 86269SFTIMSIB_2016_0F" block.

With this new license everything seems to work as expected.

I can help clarify. There is no difference. There was no Softimage 2016 so 
for the 2016 release of the Suites and the Maya/3ds Max bundles a 'bridge' 
had to be created for Softimage 2015 to go into the new offering. This was 
the R2 version and apart from licensing requirements there was no change in 
the software. The only software updates have been the service packs which 
were issued separately. Our QA team reported today that they have not yet 
identified an issue in their tests (Batch is working) but that they are 
continuing to look into this.

"Softimage 2015 R2" and that 2015 R2 only works with 2016 license keys.


The installer doesn't install it automatically as in the past, but it does 
copy the necessary installation package to do so manually. I never installed 
it, figured I'd wait till next year to see if a final SP comes out.




Looking at these notes you'd think the only thing they spend any time 
working on is FBX but all you have to do is open Maya 2016 to know that¹s 
not the case. It would be nice though to have more information on what if 
anything makes these Softimage versions any different, assuming they might 
be.

Problem solved...
After going back to registeronce and getting a new license file, there does 
appear to have been something wrong with my original license file,
dating from the time when the MayaS 2016 bundle was first released, as it was 
missing an "INCREMENT 86269SFTIMSIB_2016_0F" block.
With this new license everything seems to work as expected.

R2" and that 2015 R2 only works with 2016 license keys.

The installer doesn't install it automatically as in the past, but it does copy 
the necessary installation package to do so manually. I never installed it, 
figured I'd wait till next year to see if a final SP comes out.



Looking at these notes you'd think the only thing they spend any time working

I can help clarify. There is no difference. There was no Softimage 2016 so for 
the 2016 release of the Suites and the Maya/3ds Max bundles a 'bridge' 
had to be created for Softimage 2015 to go into the new offering. This was the 
R2 version and apart from licensing requirements there was no change in the 
software. The only software updates have been the service packs which were 
issued separately. Our QA team reported today that they have not yet identified 
an issue in their tests (Batch is working) but that they are continuing to look 
into this.

I just installed 2016 ECSU and recalled seeing this in the release notes:

The Softimage Notes suggest that SI 15 and 16 are identical. I suspected 
Softimage would be renamed 2016 in order to keep it included in the suites and 
keep it's identity as a suite component for reference. Thing is it says that 
that version with the 2016 suite is not "Softimage 2016 R2" but "Softimage 2015 
R2" and that 2015 R2 only works with 2016 license keys.
The installer doesn't install it automatically as in the past, but it does copy 
the necessary installation package to do so manually. I never installed it, 
figured I'd wait till next year to see if a final SP comes out.

Looking at these notes you'd think the only thing they spend any time working 
on is FBX but all you have to do is open Maya 2016 to know that¹s not the case. 
It would be nice though to have more information on what if anything makes 
these Softimage versions any different, assuming they might be.

it noticed better...
Would be nice, if someone from Autodesk could look into this issue,

The license manager should show what licenses are checked out.


If you really wanted to see what license Softimage interactive tries to check 
out, you'd have to stop the license server and then start Softimage with 
FLEXLM_DIAGNOSTICS set.

first time the devs heard of this issue.
My question to you all now is, does anyone else experience this problem as well?
I am not “on support” anymore, so my sole report doesn’t carry that much 
weight...

I think you misunderstood my response. My intention was not to imply that your 
report carried no weight otherwise why would we have already escalated your 
issue with the dev team, even before you contacted us?

My point was as you were not going through the normal support channels we could 
not help you if the problem is with your setup. As I mentioned in my email, we 
will keep you posted if our engineers find an issue/solution on our end.

After having contacted Maurice Patel directly, I was informed this was the 
first time the devs heard of this issue.
My question to you all now is, does anyone else experience this problem as well?
I am not “on support” anymore, so my sole report doesn’t carry that much

After having stopped the server, setting the FLEXLM_DIAGNOSTICS to 3 and 
running XSI.bat, all I get is the “there is no interactive network license 
(...)” error and nothing in the command window...

When Softimage can get a license, you won't see anything from 
FLEXLM_DIAGNOSTICS=3
The license manager should show what licenses are checked out.

If you really wanted to see what license Softimage interactive tries to check 
out, you'd have to stop the license server and then start Softimage with 
FLEXLM_DIAGNOSTICS set.

Softimage 2015 SP1 will cascade through the licenses like this:

don't want to bother with my reseller. I'd like an actual human that can

So I got around to installing Soft 2013 only to find that Autodesk in their
wisdom designed the licensing activation procedure so that I should
activate our Maya and Mudbox 2013 licenses simultaneously to avoid
conflicts, and on top of that the licensing for older versions may break
and need reactivation, so effectively I have to wait until such a time
where nobody will be waiting for licenses and we are not rendering, to do
this.

And I just want to install Soft 2013 and take a look at the goodies.

I’m not sure I understand, but I’ll assume you have separate serial numbers for 
Soft, Maya, and Mudbox.

You can activate all the individual network licenses and download the .lic 
files, you don’t have to update the server until you are ready.
Even then you can add just Softimage if that’s what you want. You can add the 
others later.

I don’t know how activating separate Maya, Mudbox, and Softimage licenses could 
end up in a conflict, unless you have Suite licenses perhaps? Or multiple 
serials for each product?

For network licenses, you have to stop the license server, yes.

Also, you can run Softimage 2013 in trial mode for 30 days.

Thanks for clarifying Stephen, but yes my problem is we have network
licenses and so I will have to wait for Maya and Mudbox users and Maya

You know that you can stop the license server even when there are licenses in 
use - when you start it again, they just get picked up again, it is easy to 
install another license without shutting everyone down.
