Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] C-3PO plugin, a trnscoding helper.
I have quite a strange playlist problem. Some playlists display with all entries in the left hand window (where you can select files). However when I make LMS play these lists, some entries are missing in LMS's playlist window and will not play. This is despite the fact that the missing entries have the same reference structure as the entries that are not missing. Also when I select these files alone they are displayed and played without problem. It is the same file type all over (ie mp3s). The problem persists in the way that always the same files go missing. My playlists are .m3u-files referencing files starting with "../" rpi 3+ with lms 8.2.0 -- rpi 2 with a hifiberry dac+ running picoreplayer -- sbr running firmware 8.0 -- plugins: material skin, mai, podcasts, musik - folge mir, squeezelite-x, ratings light, exclude folders -- dsm 6.2.2 (synology disk station 115) has my music streifenleopard's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=42019 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105309 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] C-3PO plugin, a trnscoding helper.
Almost forgot one more thing: Most DFF files play OK (besides not being at 48kHz), but some are not, player just jumps through album tracks to the end of album. The same tracks steam OK through picorePlayer to my other USB DAC. Might be again DSDPlayer issue, assuming it takes priority to c-3PO. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] C-3PO plugin, a trnscoding helper.
Hi, may be somebody here will be so nice to help me to solve some of my transcoding troubles with c-3po. What I am trying to accomplish is to resample everything to 48kHz for particular player in my setup. The player in question is the old Squeezebox v3. The reason for this resampling is that i want to drive my miniDSP DDRC-24 (DRC Dirac / DAC box) at 48kHz because it's internal ASRC is not very good, so it is recommended to run it at its internal sampling rate of 48kHz. (Details: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/measurements-of-minidsp-2x4hd.2459/page-2). I already had DSDPlayer setup and working before adding c-3po, as I do have some DSD64 as DSF and DFF files. So setup c-3po, activated it only for the squeezebox driving miniDSP, configured it as shown in attached screen shots and it seems to work, but with a couple of issues. 349933499434995 1. No scrolling possible when playing FLAC. When I try to scroll the player jumps to next track. Otherwise the output is at 48kHz, as i want it 2. DSD is converted down to 44,1kHz, not 48kHz, but scrolling works. Is this because DSD is routed through DSD Player and not c-3PO? And if this is the case, can I disable DSDPlayer just for this one squeezebox (I know, might be a wrong thread to ask)? Any help is greatly appreciated Cheers Daniel +---+ |Filename: Bildschirmfoto 2021-06-15 um 15 Juni 18.41.29.png| |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=34995| +---+ BiBer3's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=71556 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105309 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] C-3PO plugin, a trnscoding helper.
Hi, Today I decided to enable the C-3PO transcoder. The plan is to have my (original) Squeezebox Touch (with AKM 4420 DAC) receive an upsampled signal. I'd like to try the 'intermediate' filter. The problem is that when I play music, only white noise comes out. I see it was discussed a few pages back: https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?105309-C-3PO-plugin-a-trnscoding-helper/page21 In LMS Settings, second page = 'Player' - I can choose my Squeezebox Touch and then the C-3PO Transcoding Helper page. Here I read 'Player is not squeezelite' ... of course, this is not a piCorePlayer. Right now it's playing, because I have specified 44.1 kHz and 16 bit only, but that means I have no upsampling of the CD source material. The Touch-DAC supports up to 24 bit and 96kHz (AFAIK). I think I have EDO installed on the Touch, but AFAIK that's for digital output only. Is there anywhere I can read what settings should work with the Touch, and provide the desired upsampling (and ca. 3 dB attenuation to allow for intersample overs) ? I installed LMS on a faster PC. I have set the output to DSD64. When I play DSD, everything is fine now and the sound is without ticks. When I play flac and try to convert to DSD, the conversion does not work. The setting is like you have shown. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] C-3PO plugin, a trnscoding helper.
Dear Marco, thanks a lot for the settings. It works for PCM. For DSD I get sound but with ticks. The C-3PO plug-in sends DSD64. I do not know whether this is converted to DOP64 by squeezelite R2 using -D dop. I have to convert to dop because the dac is connected to an RPI via I2S and as far as I know this only works with dop. Maybe that the power of my PC is too low so that the sound is disturbed. In Daphile it works out of the box, in the Pcp version (the one from Ralphy) needs to be activated adding -W to the command line. "Unable to run C-3PO transcoder see server log." is related to a bug related to the PERL version, you could ignore it but BE SURE to manually select ONE and ONLY ONE Output sample rate both for DSD and PCM. 32004 Then it should work. The message about squeezelite is just a warning, is not an R2 version, so you need to be sure it could handle upsampled PCM streams in input (-W switch enable on command line if using the pcp one). +---+ |Filename: Immagine.jpg | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=32004| +---+ Author of C-3PO plugin, Squeezelite-R2, Falcon Web interface - See www.marcoc1712.it marcoc1712's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=34842 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105309 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Its a long thread so after a few pages decided its faster to ask the question. Am I right in assuming/inferring that C-3PO wont work with a Transporter, only squeezlite, even if I use C-3PO to direct upsampled FLAC (44k->96k) to a Transporter? I would have thought that as the PCM inside the FLAC stream was sent at 24/96 that the Transporter would use the FLAC headers as the correct version of the truth rather than the metadata from LMS. Simonef wrote: > the problem is the "-f" which i guess is related to "hi precision > clock", this option is not documented on sox documentation Not a direct response to your main question, but FYI, the "-f" option sets rolloff to "allow none" (as opposed to "allow small"). The "use high-precision clock" option is "-t". SoX's documentation lags far behind current development. I haven't been able to find the latest syntax for "rate" anywhere else on the web, so here it is (as I understand it from examining the code): rate [] [] The quality-level options are as follows: -q = quick -l = low -m = medium -g = medium-high -h = high -e = extra-high -v = very high -u = ultra These quality levels set the resampler parameters to: filter phase = linear (50%) anti-aliasing bandwidth percentage = 100 (no aliasing above the audio passband) quality level 0dbB bandwidth -3dB bandwidth noise rejection bit depth rolloff allowed q n/a n/a ~30 dB 16 0.35dB l 68% 80% 96 dB 16 0.35dB m 91% 95% 96 dB 16 0.35dB g 91% 95% 96 dB 16 0.01dB h 91% 95% 20 120 0.01dB e 91% 95% 24 144 0.01dB v 91% 95% 28 168 0.01dB u 91% 95% 32 192 0.01dB The override-options parameters, if provided, will override the values in the above table. In the list below, options on the same line are mutually exclusive. For example, you can use -s, or -b , or -B , or none of those three, but you cannot use any combination of -s, -b, and -B. Also, some options limit others. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] C-3PO plugin, a trnscoding helper.
I'd like to report a bug: When using (I guess) the option "use hi precision clock" SoX gives an error of "Invalid syntax of RATE command". As an example with this command " [sox] -q -t flac - -t flac -b 24 buffer 65536 multi-threaded - gain -h rate -v -M -t -b 95 -f 352800 -D" the problem is the "-f" which i guess is related to "hi precision clock", this option is not documented on sox documentation, removing it will remove the syntax error too. Second problem that I have is that while using pcm->dsd conversion works flawlessy (adding fir convolution too); I really can't let pcm upsampling work. The options I use are: TRANSCODER SETTINGS: Enable seek: disable for everything. Enable stdin: enabled for everything Convert, resample, Addictional effets : enabled for everything Automatic headroom: yes CONVERT Output format: wav RESAMPLE: Only max sample rate selected, i want a fixed upsample to the max sample rate, all other sr are disabled. DSD: unselected Target sample rate: closest supported Quality: very high Phase: intermediate All the other options untouched ADDITIONAL EFFECTS: untouched SPECIAL CASES: untouched The resulting string is like this: Code: [flac] -dcs --totally-silent $START$ $END$ -- $FILE$ | [sox] -q -t wav - -t wav -b 16 --buffer 8192 - gain -h rate -q -M -b 90.7 96000 -D 30858 Code: MacBook-Pro-di-Simone:Desktop simonefilippini$ ./squeezelite-macOS -d debug=al-d all=debug [15:56:38.073204] stream_init:290 init stream [15:56:38.073443] stream_init:291 streambuf size: 2097152 [15:56:38.073557] output_init_pa:403 init output [15:56:38.073569] output_init_pa:415 requested latency: 0 [15:56:38.124117] output_init_common:346 outputbuf size: 3528000 [15:56:38.124154] output_init_common:370 idle timeout: 0 [15:56:38.178993] output_init_common:410 supported rates: 384000 352800 192000 176400 96000 88200 48000 44100 32000 24000 22500 16000 12000 11025 8000 [15:56:38.179011] _pa_open:248 opening device in PlayNice mode [15:56:38.181213] _pa_open:268 opened device 1 - Built-in Output at 44100 latency 14 ms [15:56:38.181321] decode_init:129 init decode, include codecs: exclude codecs: [15:56:38.181363] register_dsd:906 using dsd to decode dsf,dff [15:56:38.181596] load_faad:592 dlerror: dlopen(libfaad.2.dylib, 2): image not found [15:56:38.182449] load_vorbis:300 loaded libvorbisfile.3.dylib [15:56:38.182459] register_vorbis:329 using vorbis to decode ogg [15:56:38.182890] load_flac:266 loaded libFLAC.8.dylib [15:56:38.182899] register_flac:294 using flac to decode flc [15:56:38.182902] register_pcm:424 using pcm to decode aif,pcm [15:56:38.184232] load_mad:383 loaded libmad.0.dylib [15:56:38.184242] register_mad:412 using mad to decode mp3 [15:56:38.184399] discover_server:756 sending discovery [15:56:38.184743] discover_server:767 got response from: 172.16.0.139:3483 [15:56:38.184809] slimproto:849 connecting to 172.16.0.139:3483 [15:56:38.185094] slimproto:882 connected [15:56:38.185230] slimproto:893 local player [15:56:38.185238] sendHELO:124 mac: 6c:40:08:b2:24:b6 [15:56:38.185243] sendHELO:126 cap: Model=squeezelite,AccuratePlayPoints=1,HasDigitalOut=1,HasPolarityInversion=1,Firmware=v1.8.4 (R2),ModelName=SqueezeLite-R2,MaxSampleRate=384000,dsf,dff,ogg,flc,aif,pcm,mp3,loc [15:56:38.206965] process:494 strm [15:56:38.206983] process_strm:256 strm command q [15:56:38.206986] decode_flush:190 decode flush [15:56:38.206988] output_flush:423 flush output buffer [15:56:38.206991] sendSTAT:171 STAT: STMf [15:56:38.207082] process:494 strm [15:56:38.207096] process_strm:256 strm command q [15:56:38.207101] decode_flush:190 decode flush [15:56:38.207104] output_flush:423 flush output buffer [15:56:38.207108] sendSTAT:171 STAT: STMf [15:56:38.207199] process:494 setd [15:56:38.207252] process:494 setd [15:56:38.207320] process:494 aude [15:56:38.207331] process_aude:395 enable spdif: 1 dac: 1 [15:56:38.207495] process:494 audg [15:56:38.207505] process_audg:413 audg gainL: 3840 gainR: 3840 adjust: 0 [15:56:38.207510] set_volume:76 setting internal gain left: 65536 right: 65536 [15:56:39.004355] process:494 strm [15:56:39.004385] process_strm:256 strm command t [15:56:39.004393] sendSTAT:171 STAT: STMt [15:56:44.005101] process:494 strm [15:56:44.005133] process_strm:256 strm command t [15:56:44.005138] sendSTAT:171 STAT: STMt [15:56:47.896569] process:494 strm [15:56:47.898981] process_strm:256 strm command q [15:56:47.899069] decode_flush:190 decode flush [15:56:47.899143] output_flush:423 flush output buffer [15:56:47.899396] sendSTAT:171 STAT: STMf [15:56:47.921931] process:494 audg [15:56:47.922044] process_audg:413 audg gainL: 3840 gainR: 3840 adjust: 0 [15:56:47.922096] set_volume:76 setting internal gain left: 65536 right: 65536 [15:56:47.923751] process:494 strm

I did fresh installations on both Windows 7 and Windows 10 and had the same problem on both. Now with the settings below it seems to play fine (it didn't seem to like pcm but when using uncompressed flac as output format and only one sample rate selected it is playing fine ), however the message is still there "Unable to run C-3PO transcoder, see server log" and still getting the error during the startup. This is why I assumed the plugin was not actually enabled and doing anything. If the last executed command looks fine, does it mean I can safely ignore these errors and all is working fine even if it shows an error? 30666 30667 30668 30669 +---+ |Filename: Image8.png | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=30669| +---+ http://www.last.fm/user/amatala amatala's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15972 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105309 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

I already faced this problem with newer versions of PERL user by some Linux distros, I'll check it out. in the meanwhile, the workaround Is to enable ONE and ONLY ONE output sample rate, this way: 30659 Other messages: StdIn (es. Player is not Squeezelite, assuming is compliant. are just warnings, the first is because a 'feature' (to me is a bug, but...) in transcodingHelper in LMS that prevent 'navigate' the stream when coming from STDIN, the other is because your client is not recognized as being Squeezelite-R2, so you have to check -W is enabled in command line (if using Ralphy version) or whatever else in other versions (nothing is necessary using Daphile, it already enables R2 mods). Setting sound attenuation resulted in an increase in loudness. > It seems like a small bug [emoji218] > > I managed to enable attenuation through the squeezelite setting > directly. IN C-3PO you have gain, that is linear like the one in squeezelite and Loudness. Loudness is not linear, it applies the Isophonic curve: 30657 The rationale is: 1. select the SPL where you 'perceive' your speakers as 'linear' (i.e. 60phon). 2. apply a gain variation i.e. -20db the resulting level is not a 'plain' reduction of 20db at all the frequencies, but some frequencies are reduced more than other, resulting in loudness, that is meant to 'preserve' the same perception (or EQ) you have when listening at 60db. In that example, at 60phon 200Hz are at 60db as 1000Hz are, but at 40phon (resulting from the attenuation of 20phon) they are 'louder', more or less 42db. The opposite for 500Hz, that is a bit 'louder' at 60phon than at 40. Posing the reference at 60, 40 or 80phon is arbitrary, you could select any of them, the result will change a little, being the differences form 100 and 80 different from the ones between 60 and 40, but, usually, an attenuation is resulting in more 'loud' where a positive gain will result in a flatter line. SOX has a caveat with loudness: the 'balance' of the two channels it often changes a bit, so you'll have to compensate using per channel volume controls. Loudness is not my 'preferred' way to EQ, the one I prefer is 'shelving EQ' (Treble and Bass command) that works like the good old' tone controls' in amplifiers, just remember to always use attenuation. I.e. Treble -3 160 results in a moderate boost of bass. Treble -2 160 Treble -2 630 Treble +2 1 is a very little loudness Please note that the +2 is after two consecutive -2, so the resulting absolute correction at 10.000Hz and over is -2. Never be able to understand if the gain value is expressed in db or what. To me is smaller than db, but never measured. here some details: http://sox.sourceforge.net/sox.html about isophonic curves: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equal-loudness_contour +---+ |Filename: Curve_isofoniche.svg.jpg | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=30657| +---+ Author of C-3PO plugin, Squeezelite-R2, Falcon Web interface - See www.marcoc1712.it marcoc1712's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=34842 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105309 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

I have only replaced return 0 by return 'exe' at the end so that the test is always successful even if the call to the exe file is failing. The rest of the comments where already there. #return 0; return 'exe'; So far it seems to be working fine for me, I don't know what is the purpose of that exe file, I'm sure Marco will help us properly when he is back, but as long as the sox command gets generated properly, it's fine for me until then. :) http://www.last.fm/user/amatala amatala's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15972 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105309 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

In the meantime, the only advice the OP could try is to remove all 3rd party plugins and make srue the error goes away and then just install C3PO - if error comes back then error is defitnitely associated with C3PO The "PAR" module is a way of packaging plugins which can cause problems - I'm not sure of C3PO used it. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105309 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] C-3PO plugin, a trnscoding helper.
I hope Marco is well... What Id like for c-3po is a way to use all kind of media supported by lms, so that the sound level and the sonic signatures stay the same when listening to a playlist. I understand that not all media deserve to be upsampled, but the way it integrates Sox could allow its plugin to alter the sound. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] C-3PO plugin, a trnscoding helper.
Hi Marco, I use a Squeezebox Touch with EDO. I have listened for many months using your wonderful transcoding plugin. Thank you. However, something has happened and it is no longer loading properly. This error message pops up very quickly in a temporary window as LMS is loading: Use of uninitialized value in do file at C:/Perl/site/lib/PAR.pm line 636 The C-3PO page in LMS settings says: Unable to run C-3PO transcoder see server log. StdIn (es. Qobuz) enabled, will resample at the max allowed sample rate. Player is not Squeezelite, assuming is compliant. A server log does not exist at the indicated location. I cannot recall having changed anything on my LMS computer other than the standard Windows 10 updates. Can you provide any tips on solving this? Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] C-3PO plugin, a trnscoding helper.
Hi Marco, Not sure you remember me but I just wanted to send my deep appreciation of the improvements you brought into the C-3CPO. I can now add all my equalizer settings in one go (the text size is significantly longer) - thanks for that. It definitely helps a lot. Also, many small changes make your plugin a fantastic sound adjuster with a lot of flexibility. Wanted to ask you: 1. When I set the loudness gain higher or lower than zero, the volume is higher. Is this normal? (I have set it at zero as I am using the equalizer and the volume attenuation is at 6). 2. Have you ever managed to work with OSS drivers through squeezebox (with Alsa to OSS emulation)? I have a Vortexbox and installed Daphile which sounds best for me using the LMS player. I just don't know how to get the OSS driver installed (found the driver in Gentoo resources which is Daphile's OS). Soundflower (2ch) line is removed as Marco suggested in a previous post ... -o line is not removed (when I removed it SL didn't start) So with S.flower(2.ch) line removed, the -o line NOT removed changing output in Mac settings doesn't get recognized from S.lite. Note that squeezelite does not recognize changes to the Output device you choose in MacOS, it sends output to the current default device when it starts, if the -o option is omitted, otherwise sound will always be sent to the device listed in the plist -o option. # Stop squeezelite sudo launchctl unload -w /Library/LaunchDaemons/squeezelite.plist # Start squeezelite sudo launchctl load -w /Library/LaunchDaemons/squeezelite.plist So, if you remove the 2 lines for -o in the plist, squeezelite will start using the current default output device selected in the os. If you change it, you need to restart squeezelite. Finally it worked!! Victory With the above settings Marco suggested! With the -W parameter! And with bit perfect playback! S. rate changes according to the file (C-3PO not enabled of cource) Also squeezelite starts on boot of the Mac. A huge thank you ralphy and marco1712 If I change some settings in the C-3PO the output device is going to build in sound even though in the Mac settings I have selected my usb dac.
