Some anti-virus software keeps detecting our installers as containing a

actually from 7zip and decompesses the installer so that it's contents

gets compressed with the free 7zip tools and the anti-virus companies

Hi Robert,

Thank you for doing this :-)

The only point in question for me, is the phrase, We assume. This
'read' that SM devs are assuming some malware gets added in because of using
7zip :-) Just a first impression upon reading the phrase, I'm fairly
certain you were referring to the collective 'we'. In re-reading the
paragraph I think that entire sentence could be dropped:

---
The code in question is actually from 7zip and decompesses the installer so
that it's contents can run and install SeaMonkey. Mozilla scans all our

I do believe this will be helpful to people coming to the site. Many of my
friends and family are not 'technically inclined' and will not delve into
any mysteries. I have 'beat' them into practicing computing safety for so
long, if they see a scan 'positive' they will move on until they find
something without any warnings. Of course I have also beat them for
believing everything they read on the internet :-) so they are just as
unlikely to believe this disclaimer. Nonetheless the disclaimer provides
information about what is likely a continually-encountered issue with the
installers, and shows that SM community is aware of it.

Thank you again for your consideration of adding this info to the site.

Security Error: Domain Name Mismatch

2009-09-01 Thread JD

I have changed the companies name but here is the error:

You have attempted to establish a connection with
secure.companyebill.com. However, the security certificate presented
belongs to *company.com. It is possible, though unlikely, that someone
may be trying to intercept your communication with this web site.

If you suspect the certificate shown does not belong to
secure.companyebill.com, please cancel the connection and notify the
site administrator.

The choices are: View Certificate, OK, Cancel and Help.

The odd thing is, I'm not trying to connect to the site. I have a
bookmark for this company in a Credit Pay folder in a Companies folder
in the dropdown menu for my Bookmarks so I'm not trying to connect to
the site I'm just hovering over the link to the bookmark for the company
in the sub folder. I don't have to click on the link to get the error.

This is a company that recently changed their bill pay address and I can
tell you that their customer service is beyond bad and poor but I have
no option to not use this company and/or their online bill pay so is
there some way I can accept this certificate every time without having
to select OK and/or contact the site administrator. All they will tell
me is they don't support SeaMonkey. Speaking of that, it's Version
1.1.17 but it's not a SM problem.

I guess I could move the bookmark out of the folder if there is no other
work around.

Probably, I just thought it might be good to offer an idea who the

I agree with you. May be it's because the anti-virus cannot look inside
a 7zip file, so he concludes that the file is suspicious.

Something is definitely odd here. You should _only_ get the warning if

Wrong! If the site has a favicon and your preferences are set to put
the icon on the bookmark, merely opening the Bookmarks Manager will
attempt to fetch the icon. (If the bookmark is in a folder, opening the
folder within Bookmarks Manager is required.) If it's a secure site,
the site certificate must be negotiated. This does not require actually
selecting a link to the site or even hovering (mouse over) the bookmark.

 1. Go to https://www.verisign.com/ and book mark that page. Now in

 2. Exit Bookmarks, open Bookmarks and hover your mouse over the

The error popup you get should have three radio buttons:
Accept this certificate permanently
Accept this certificate temporarily for this session
Do not accept this certificate and do not connect to this Web
site

Select either the first button (if you are truly convinced that you have
not been led to a bogus site) or the second button (if you are not
sure). Then select the OK button. (I would not attempt any financial
