WARNING!!! --- SM2 renames the pop folders so manually copy email to
the new profile could place them in the worng account.

Make a copy of the prefs.js file in the profile directory. Write done
the current order of the accounts displayed.

 Look at the line:
  user_pref(...);

This is the order that the accounts appear, and write those numbers in
from of each account name in the list you made. then reorder them as
 desired in the list.

Got to the line again and reorder the account names so they are in the
 order you wish displayed.
  user_pref(...);

Remember that the Account # that relates to Local Folders will always
display last, no matter what order it is put in the list.

 *** Notes to the developers:

 1. Please change numbers from 1,2, etc. to 01, 02, etc. so that 10
appears in order after 09 and not after 01.
 2. Please rename Local folders to Account00 so they will always get
the same number, making it obvious as to what account it is.
 3. Could you please make a gui to change the order and to reorder the
id#'s, etc., so it can be cleaned up easily?
 4. Could you also rename the pop folders like I already mentioned?
  A. instead of pop.yahoo.com, pop.yahoo-1.com etc. to
username.yahoo. The .com, .net, etc. are not needed and if
there is a .com and .net associated with the same domain name then
simply make the exception and call it usename.yahooocom or
username.yahoocom. These would be rare. for .co.uk and .co.ca
etc. it would be the same, username.yahoouk, or username.yahooca.
No more confusion over which folder is which and require a knowledge
of needing to look it up and where. Moving one user to a new computer
is now very simple rather than transferring all the mail and removing
all the other accounts such as moving to college and want all the
stuff form that kids account but not the others.

I wish I know this before trying to move to SM2. That was a mess
since I was forced to delete all of the accounts and put them back
in. I also had to copy email that didn't transfer and since SM2
weirdly is different, they at first wound up in the wrong folders.
Suggestion 4 will solve this one.

 Thanks guys.

P.S. A drag and drop method for reordering of the accounts would also
be awesome.

How do I get urls and passwords imported from SM1.x to SM2 to work?

2009-10-30 Thread JW 'Yawn' vanLohuizen
Still need to be able to have the browser acknowledge the imported
urls and passwords to actually attempt to work in SM2.

I looked at the Password Manager and at least most of them seemed to
have transfered but the prompt doesn't appear to work so I can't use

I still have to use SM1.1.8 until this is fixed since I have many many
sites with passwords stored in every strange manner that these site

Yes, but that will still open a foreground tab rather then keeping the

From here, if I middle click the link, it opens in a new tab in the

Feedback to Seamonkey developers - SM 2.0 high CPU resource consumption bursts

2009-10-30 Thread User

I understand that the core Seamonkey development team reads a lot of the
postings on this newsgroup, so I wanted to take this opportunity to post some
feedback on a particular issue regarding the newly released Seamonkey 2.0 suite
that has otherwise made what has been a excellent refinement of recent Seamonkey
releases, into something that has been difficult and frustrating to use,
especially when these issues did not occur at all whatsoever with all past
versions of Seamonkey, Mozilla suite and even as far back as Netscape 6 and 7.

SEAMONKEY 2.0 ISSUE SUMMARY - In short, SM 2.0 for some reason consumes large
bursts of CPU power, repeating at fairly frequent intervals (anywhere from once
every half a minute to once every few minutes), and these events appears to
bring the Seamonkey application thread to its knees, resulting in frequent
temporary stalling, freezing and pausing of the application for long periods,
even when running on a modern powerful high clock speed multi-core CPU system
that capably handles just about any other demanding application I could throw
at it.

HARDWARE / OS OVERVIEW - I have been running SM 2.0 on (as I have with SM 1.X
for many months) - a high performance major brand name motherboard with a
multi-core (more than 2 cores) CPU set at a clock speed of 3.0 GHz, 2 GB of RAM,
Windows XP SP-3 in a highly optimized configuration and environment, and more
than ample Windows swap file size. Normally, this CPU is running in Window's
energy efficient power mode and the AMD Cool and Quiet CPU drivers which
dynamically throttle CPU clock speed as needed. I consider myself a power user.

OBSERVATIONS / SYMPTOMS
I have used SM 2.0 since the day of its official release, and while I have had
no real issues whatsoever setting up SM 2.0 and manually migrating all my
existing preferences, mail and newsgroup files and other browser / address book
files, shortly after using SM 2.0 I discovered that the entire application suite
FREQUENTLY STALLS / PAUSES even when I perform the simplest tasks, which may
include:

* Flipping through different windows / components of the suite, including
browser window, mail window, mail composition window, address book, etc
* Simple typing in a mail composition window
* Copying and pasting text blocks (e.g. mail composition / editing)
* Highlighting and deleted text blocks (e.g. mail composition / editing)
* Scrolling through a web page already fully loaded or text in a mail
composition window, using mouse wheel
* Retarded response when clicking on links
* Multi-media playback within browser window (e.g. Flash FLV video)

I would like to emphasize that these stalling symptoms above occur when such
tasks are either performed or are performed during the reoccuring stalling
period of the application suite. Furthermore, I have absolutely NOT experienced
ANY of these problems for all the years I have used Netscape 6, 7, the Mozilla
suite and all Seamonkey 1.X releases. This issue occurs even when the operating
system has just been freshly rebooted AND SM 2.0 is the ONLY application
running.

FURTHER INVESTIGATION
I decided to investigate this stalling issue further and began to use SM 2.0
while running the AMD Power Monitor, which graphically displays all CPU core
utilization percentage on a moment to moment basis within a small window.
Meanwhile, I kept SM 2.0 as the ONLY running application on the system to ensure
that it was the only major source of system load. Normally, with the Windows-XP
power mode set to a power efficient mode (i.e. minimal power management mode),
all cores are running at an idle speed of about 800 MHz (with a maximum core
speed of 3 GHz when the load requires it). With virtually all of the
applications I run on my system, including multimedia players, most of the time
all cores are at a relaxed 800 MHz and occasionally one or two cores may be
ramping up to 1.6 GHz, and very infrequently and very briefly one of the cores
may ramp up to 3 GHz. Under this energy efficient mode, the system handles a
heavily loaded SM 1.X release just fine with a high number of browser tabs
loaded with heavy pages, multimedia playing on one or more tabs and the mail
window running as well. But with SM 2.0, the stalling occurs frequently.

I decided to set the Windows-XP power mode to ALWAYS ON mode so that all CPU
cores would run at an idle clock speed of 3 GHz. Interesingly, in this mode, the
stalling symptom of SM 2.0 was reduced somewhat. However, it was STILL NOT
completely eliminated, and furthermore, observation of the AMD power monitor
utility also indicates that one or more CPU cores frequently shows a very high
core load percentage (even when running at a full 3.0 GHz core speed) that
coincides with WHENEVER SM 2.0 stalls. This is particularly noticable (but not
exclusively limited to) during playback of vidoes such as Flash FLV within the
Flash plug-in inside a SM 2.0 browser tab / window, where, during stalling, the
video frame rate would frequently

SM 2.0 Fontsmoothing issue on Mac OS X in mailnews

2009-10-30 Thread Wolf
Hi,

Since the first release of the SM 2 aplha i recognized that in the
mailnews part (folder pane and header pane) the font smoothing is so
strong, that it is really hard to see any difference between read an
unread threads (see the screenshots in the links below)! When you
compare the SM 1 screenshot with the one from SM 2 side by side you will
see what i´m complaining about. I was told then in the german mozilla
groups that the antialiasing of the Mac OS X may be the reason for that
behavior and i really hoped this would be better or fixed in the final
release, it isn´t still and is the one and only reason to me for staying
at SM version 1.

http://www.wolfswelt.at/SM1.png
http://www.wolfswelt.at/SM2.png

In some other threads i saw screenshots of the mail/news panes from
windows and linux users and they look quite clear to me. Disabling the
AA in Mac OS completely is no solution (font display is more worse than
before) so it is set to weak wich is the lowest given setting. A few
experiments (after getting tips) in a userchrome.css with different
fonts and styles doesn´t fix this problem too so this here is my last
hope. Can anyone point me to a working solution? How can i get back this
clear and crispy message display of SM version 1?

thanks in advance and best regards
Wolfgang

Sea Monkey 2.0 spoofing

2009-10-30 Thread genecomcast
Hello,

I am still not getting the File, Open. toolbox tabs when I download and
run Sea Monkey 2.0. However, 1.1.18 has been running fine. I have tried the
following without any success..

Sea Monkey 2.0 spoofing

1) Navigator Window - about:config

2) Click thru warning

3) Right Click on body text

4) Click on New followed by String

5) 1st Box = general.useragent.extra.spoof

6) 2nd Box= NOT Firefox/3.5.4

7) That's it

I have installed Firefox 3.5.4 and IE8 and using Windows XP.

Do I need to reboot my system? Change to another Firefox version? Delete
1.1.18 entirely before downloading 2.0. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Interesting. I blanked out the useragent references to Firefox,

The little-arrows that change-time-window pages, are a different problem
to the JavScript-popups that detail program-contents.
The time-window-page change-arrows always worked, and still-do work for
us, so it seems certain that you have another different-type of problem,
 to contend with.
Re spoofing with the Firefox UI  after the SeaMonkey UI:--

We did some experimentation awhile-back, and found that putting the
NOT Firefox bit after the SeaMonkey/x.y.z, didn't always work on
 some sites. It's probably better-to create a new-field, and then-to
 simply-add the NOT Firefox/3.x.x new-string-identifier, which will
appear before the SM version UA identity in the UA-string.

 1/ Typeabout:config  in the SeaMonkey's browser URL-bar without
 inverted-commas, to raise SeaMonkey's about:config options-page.

 2/ Left-click on Preference Name in the about:config window's
Title-bar, then Right-click to bring up the Preference-Bar menu.

 3/ Select menu-item New, sub-menuString, to-raise the edit-box.

 4/ Enter a new preference-name general.useragent.extra.firefox
without the inverted-commas, and click OK.

 Options:
 5a/ For SeaMonkey-1.x.x, Enter the new string-value
NOT Firefox/3.0, without the inverted-commas, and click OK.
 5b/ For SeaMonkey-2.x.x, Enter the new string-value
NOT Firefox/3.5.3, without the inverted-commas, and click OK.

6/ Close and restart SeaMonkey(or View/Reload), and then try to open the site
 you could not use.

I have the 'not Firefox' string blanked out and put in the 'firefox'
one, but that does not get me the time changing ability. What I
really don't understand is why this page worked fine in 1.1.18 but
won't work in 2.0.

On a related note, I was told that blanking out a string in
about:config would delete it when SM was closed and i believe this
worked in 1.1.18, but it's not happening with 2.0. A delete option
here would sure be handy.

Thanks for your help with this.

Given my experience with both FF and SM 1.xx, Roboform should perfectly
work with SM 2.0, once the company releases an addon for it. I checked

Could not hurt to ask them, though ...

I am not sure one can say it is similar, or not, to the Form Manager we

Embedded flash videos loading failure under SM 2.0

2009-10-30 Thread User

Ever since upgrading smoothly to SM 2.0, I have noticed that embedded flash
video windows no longer loads in pages such as these:

http://money.cnn.com/2009/10/30/technology/facebook_spammer/index.htm?postversion=2009103010

Normally, under SM 1.X, the video window will expand and display a frame of the
video, but under SM 2.0, I have not yet seen this successfully occur for Flash
FLV videos. Even when clicking on the link in the embedded video on this page,
the video does not display nor is it possible to playback. Anyone else have this
same problem?

Indeed, it should happen automagically. When the new profile is created

Thanks for the info. My experience was with SM2.0b1 (see my message of

It should be noted that I did all my pre release testing on Mac's. I

Re: Feedback to Seamonkey developers - SM 2.0 high CPU resource consumption bursts

2009-10-30 Thread User
Update to the original feedback post I made earlier - After extensive monitoring
of individual core load on the multi-core CPU while playing back many different
Flash FLV videos, I can positively confirm that virtually all of the time, Flash
FLV playback using the exact same Flash plug-in that I previously used on SM
1.X, requires SIGNIFICANTLY more CPU power and generates much more load on the
CPU cores when played back under SM 2.0 compared to playing back on SM 1.X. The
core load percentage as well as the individual core clock speed as adjusted
through dynamic throttling, clearly confirms this.

Re: [OSX Tiger] Migration from 1.1.18 - 2.0: GREAT - some observations

2009-10-30 Thread Leonidas Jones

Gabriele wrote:
/snip/

I really don't understand the discussions I read about modal windows,
and download manager; are these a Windows-only things ? On OSX I found
everything as before.

For exmaple, when you click on SeaMonkeyAbout SeaMonkey, you get
either a new tab or a new full browser window with the about
information. In 1.1.x you used to be able to set a pref in about:config
to get a smaller window similar to what you get when you click
FirefoxAbout Mozilla Firefox.

If you have never modified that pref, SM2 will seem just like SM1.1 in
that regard.

Now, I have some observations:
1) At 1st start-up after installation, there was a window asking for
master password, but the field didn't accept any input; I restarted
SM, and now it works.

Did you have a Mater Password set in 1.1.x before upgrading to 2.0? If
so, is it behaving correctly now?

2) What did the developers change in SM, that now every 1st outgoing
connection to standard HTTP and SSL ports makes my firewall asking for
permission? It's the same odd behaviour as FireFox 3.5!
I mean: I open SM 2, write an URL, and Little Snitch asks seamonkey-bin
wants to connect to www... TCP port 80. Deny or Allow?! I never saw
that alert with previous versions of SM, nor with Safari, but only with
FireFox and now SM 2.

I've only been using the uilt in firewall for Snow Leopard, so I don't
know. No browser connections have been stopped, though it asks about
other programs that access. Once I allow it permanently, it doesn't ask
anymore. Of course, that was intorduced in Leopard, so no such thing
for Tiger.

3) It seems to me the text size in web sites is larger than before.

Well, I hadn't notivrd that, but rendering will be a little different,
generally better. You could check SeaMonkeyPreferencesAppearance,
and see if you have a minimum font size set. If not, I would just leave
it alone.

4) In Mail Messages: why the View Headers only has All, Normal and no
more extended, None options?

I believe the other options were added by the Mnenhy extension, which
has not been updated for use with 2.0 as far as I know.

Thank you for adding keyboard-shortcuts to some News commands :)

5) I see the little rainbow wheel when writing a long message like this
one.

Its probably when SM is auto saving the post, which it does every five
minutes. If you want a longer interval between saves, you can set it in
SeaMonkeyPreferencesMail NewsgroupsComposition, or disable it
entirely if you want. Its not happening here, but I am running a more
powerful system the you.

6) WHY the X button for closing tab is now at the right of the mail
window only, and not in every tab as before? I have to move the mouse a
lot more now! It was more easier before.

If you have a mouse with scroll wheel, try middle clicking on the tab
you want to close. If you have a one button mouse, Control +click, then
click Close Tab. I'm a little surprised the Command Click doesn't work.
However, I love my Mighty Mouse. ;)

Ok, I'll do rendering tests another time, I can say that I'm satisfied
with the new SM 2.0, just fix the spinning wheel please!

The other thing that has been causing my install to freeze, and show the
beachball of Death, is the updating of RSS feeds. The obvious
workaround is to disable automatic checking in the RSS accounts, but
that is kind of a pain.

To Leonidas: For once a serious question. Why did they remove the Quick
Launch, in either Browser? What is the benefit of doing so? :-\

Well, it only existed in Windows anyhow, and was a holdover from
Netscape days, when they were trying to get the browser to open up as
fast as IE.

The value of it was debatable. I remember playing around with it a long
time ago. While it did cause the initial opening of the program to
speed up, subsequent closings and reopening were the same whether
Quicklaunch was enabled or not.

The negative side was that part of Netscape/Mozilla Suite was open and
running at all times, taking up system resources for no good reason.

It also caused quite a bit of trouble for anyone who needed to do a
modification within their program files, such as a user.js mod, they
would forget that if Quick Launch was running, Netscape/Mozilla was not
really closed, thus negating their modification. I ended up just
suggesting that people disable Quick Launch and forget about it, since
it was more trouble then it was worth.

The only reason it was still in 1.1.x was that it was still based on the
very outdated code. With all the reports about how much faster SM 2.0
is loading for people, I would suspect there really is no need for it
anyway.

By the way, i don't know if you are on the newsgroup or the mailing
list, but every time you reply to me your reply shows in the group,
*and* I get a private email copy. This is unnecessary, and clogs up my
mailbox for no good purpose. Can you please not do that anymore?

IINM this will be fixed in SM 2.0.1:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=447927

You can verify this with a comm-1.9.1 nightly build.

No. Either quit SM 1.1.18 (completely, i.e. including Quick Launch if

ISP passowrd log-on problems

2009-10-30 Thread HeavyDuty

SM2, WinXP Pro SP3

I my SM2, when I connect to an ISP that requires
username/password info, SM2 does not present the
various username/password options as it does in
SM1,8. For instance, on two of my webmail ISPs,
i have four each mail accounts. On one, the last
account I used populates to the the log-on
windows. On this site with SM1,8, all the
account names would open up a window that I
could choose between. On another site, no choice
is offered. When I type the first letter of an
account, any account with that first letter is
offered for my choice. In SM1.8, when I accessed
that site, all the options appeared with prompting.
Is this a bug, a feature, or is there a setting
I need to learn?
The user agent is the default RealUA, as it is
in my SM1.8
Apropos of maybe nothing, sniffer sites identify
SM2 as SM 1.9. Hmmm.

Cannot Install Seamonkey 2.0?

Hello,

Trying to install Seamonkey 2.0 on Windows Visa Premium. When I
double-click on the install file it unpacks and throws up a Run As
dialog indicating You my not have the necessary permissions to use all
the features of the program you are about to run. You may run this
program as a different user or continue to run the program as the
current user.

If I check the Current user box and click OK nothing happens,
installation stops/ends. If I check the Run the program as the
following user: [Administrator logon] box and click OK I get logon failure.

The only account set up on this system is the one I'm using, which has
full administrator rights, and I don't have any trouble installing other
software, including earlier Seamonkey iterations.

Any suggestions would be appreciated,

Try cancelling, right-clicking on the installer package and choosing
run as administrator THERE. That is, right from the start.

Vista admin rights are kinda funny. Even in a so-called
administrator-level account there is stuff that only the real
administrator can do.

SM 2.0 URL escape character auto conversion

2009-10-30 Thread User
I recently copied a URL which contained spaces, from the URL field of the SM 2.0
browser, into a SM 2.0 mail composition window, and then saved the e-mail as a
draft. Upon reviewing the saved draft (without re-opening it for editing), I
noticed that clickable portion of the URL with spaces that I pasted into the
e-mail was truncated at the first space character encountered. Obviously, this
is not surprising.

However, I seem to recall that in SM 1.X versions, when pasting a URL with
spaces or other special characters into the SM mail composition window, an
automatic conversation process would take place whereby the pasted URL in the
mail composition would then contain the necessary escape characters (e.g. for
the space character, it would become %20 in the e-mail).

Can someone confirm whether the automatic escape character conversion DOES
INDEED take place in SM 1.X versions but now does NOT take place in SM 2.0's
mail composition window or when the e-mail is saved / sent? In this case, I had
to re-edit the saved draft to manually replace the space characters in the
pasted URL into their correct escape character equivalents. Thanks for any input
/ confirmation on the above.

I know where I migrated them from. But I don't

They are going to migrate to the default location on your C drive. You
ca move them manually to your D drive instead.

On XP

C:\\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application

Re: DASH-DASH-SPACE SIGNATURE. WAS Re: Spoofing in SM 2.0

2009-10-30 Thread Hartmut Figge
Leonidas Jones:

[delimiter]
If you set up a sig file in SeaMonkey Mail Newsgroup Account
Settings, it will be added for you automatically.

Right. And that i don't like. For this NG i'm using a sig file, which
contains only the word Hartmut. I don't want the delimiter in this or
similar cases. *g*

That was the reason for another of my private patches. A long, long time
ago. This one forbids SM to ever set the sig delimiter. If one is
needed, well, then i write it myself in a sig file.

Has anyone found a good replacement to use with 2.0 for the now missing
Form Manager from 1.18? Does Roboform work with 2.0? Is it similar to
Form Manager?

I sure hope developers rethink the removal of Form Manager from 1.18,
and add it back to 2.0

Roboform don't work on Mac platform.

I guess that is the great advantage of having a three letter nickname.
I just type it every time. ;)

Go back to the MozDev site and look up QuoteColors
Scroll all the way down look for the note on .3.0.beta 2 click link for
it works great.

Okay, reread. I know that Quote Colors works fine, and I have it
installed. It is Quote Collapse that will not work without Mr Tech.

Oh, Okay.

Did you let the Mozilla Crash Reporter report the bug to Mozilla? If so,

Not the first time. the second time I did. as it stands I figure it will
crash at least once a day. on SM 1.1.x I hadn't had a crash in years.

And the url to your crash report is?
Just click on the report url.

Sample:
http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/bp-be19f3ef-123e-437f-b503-8ba142091001
[note: that is/was a flash issue most likely isn't related to my
SeaMonkey, but that's what caused the crash (flash) so I reported it]

here is the item in the last crash:
