Grab hold of one of the sides of the screen with your mouse pointer and
reduce the width of the window.

Works for me!

I tried that several times but that does nothing. When I click on the

I would rename the file localstore.rdf in the profile of the stubborn SM
after closing it. The file will be recreated the next time SM starts.

But you will lose custom settings you have made in the past. Therefore
renaming and not deleting, so you have a way to go back if needed.

Blogspot don't like old Seamonkey versions any more.
I still have 2.0.14 and have the same problem. You have an even older

I changed the user agent string in about:config to

Re: why can I not see submit section of page

Interviewed by CNN on 25/02/2012 16:11, Arne told the world:

2.0.14, about issues I don't like in the newer versions.

Well, you have to take into account that in every endeavor, the
complaints are always heard louder than the praise. There are lots of
people -- including me -- perfectly happy with the new versions of
Seamonkey. We just aren't as prone to mention it in this forum.

Do you have any specific concerns that are keeping you from upgrading?
Perhaps we can clear up some points or offer an acceptable alternative.

I'm also sick of updating the browser several times every moth, with
the following hassle to get it work the same way as before the update,
with e.g. add-ons and extensions I need but don't work.

Well, I wouldn't say several times a month. It's supposed to be once
every six weeks, but there has been on average about one intermediate
chemspill update between those, to address can't-wait serious issues
that have been recently discovered. But those chemspill updates tend
to change very little that's visible to the user.

Making add=ons work has become actually easier recently. Now in many
cases Seamonkey will by default accept an add-on even if technically it
is marked as incompatible. For other cases, the easiest workaround is
to install the Add-On Compatibility Reporter extension.

Since the easiest way now to update, is to unistall 2.0.14 and start
from scratch with a new version, I am in the process to move all my
new mail correspondence to an other mail software, so I at least have
them safe when/if the time comes to upgrade. Also bookmarks is to be
 saved as a web page.

Well, I wouldn't say that's the easiest way. Upgrading from 2.0.x to
higher versions is usually straightforward: just download the latest
version and install it over the old one. If you really, really want to
preserve your download history (most users don't care), you can upgrade
to 2.1.x as an intermediate step.

Of course, backing up your profile is a sensible precaution. Isn't it
always?

But starting from scratch -- with a clean slate -- does have its points,
I admit. It's more work, since you have to redo just about all your
settings, but you will arguably end up with a more stable system, not
carrying as much old cruft.

Re bookmarks... yeah, in 2.1 and higher those are stored in a database,
no longer in bookmarks.html. But if you like having bookmarks.html
available, there's an option (I forget what it is, since I don't use it)
to tell Seamonkey to auto-export an updated bookmarks.html every time it
closes down.

I have tried some other browsers, in case I have to abandon SM. Also
use them if I have to, but I don't like the way all new browser
versions are taking. I like what I have now with SM 2.0.14 and would
appreciate if new versions could stay that way.

Well, not everybody likes changes, I concede. But it's pretty hard to
avoid them.

Not only is the Internet moving on, with what were newfangled
experimental capabilities a couple years ago now in the process of
becoming basic requirements for many sites, but also there's the
security problem. Security flaws are discovered all the time, and older,
no longer supported version aren't going to be fixed.

Yes, very nice explanation, it should work like this, but it did not
because the localstore.rdf file in some way was corrupted as Hartmut
Figge explained to me. I followed his advise and all is well now.

Question for you:

Do a Ctrl-D, the file Bookmark Window pops up, can you hover the borders
to enlarge or decrease the window as you can in the Bookmark manager ? I
have the standard smaller file bookmark manager window back
but in SM 2.7.2 still no way to hover the borders, no arrow cursor
symbols and not in SM 2.7.2 portable.

You can't even do this in Firefox 1.0.0.2, try it, I can't, at least not
on my system.

I have an older Portable SM 2.0.1.4 on an USB stick, there I can do
this. There I see the double arrow cursor symbols in the File Bookmark
window. Here I can make this window smaller/bigger.

something always get to the point that I have to fix in one way or an
other. Not always hard to do, but still what I want to do to keep
everything as it was and how I want it to be, if possible.

Making add=ons work has become actually easier recently. Now in many
cases Seamonkey will by default accept an add-on even if technically it
is marked as incompatible. For other cases, the easiest workaround is
to install the Add-On Compatibility Reporter extension.

As it was way back at least, I hardy get them work after an update
before a new update was announced. So I used to hold the updates until
I was sure there was at least the most valuable (for me) add-ons that
was compatible with the version I updating to. So I have always been a
bit behind with the SM updates.

That's what a lot of complaints has been about, the upgrading has not
been straightforward. And I don't care about the download history either.

Well, not everybody likes changes, I concede. But it's pretty hard to
avoid them.

I guess I have to change my Internet habits and in the future settle
with just what is strictly necessary, like paying my bills. :\

email account password

2012-02-25 Thread David Lawler
Using SM 1.1.19. I am trying to set up an additional email account.
Somehow in the account set-up process, it doesn't ask for a password,
but then when I try to access the account, SM wants a password.
Sometimes I get a message saying enter the new password, or something
like that, so I enter one but then SM won't accept it. This makes no
sense to me. Any help would be appreciated.

Key press delay

2012-02-25 Thread Keith Whaley

Mac OS 10.6.8
iMac 7,1 Fall 2007
SM 2.7.2

When I'm typing a message, either in answer to someone else's post or an
original for me to post to the list, I frequently find the appearance of
the letters on the screen lag the pressing of the keyboard keys by as
much as 3 seconds.

If I ignore that and keep typing, eventually the words will appear, but
not smoothly, as in a word processor.

I merely want to know why that is. Suggestions welcome.

As one might guess, it hasn't happened to THIS post yet. Go figure...

In the SM 1.1.19 email tool bar select Tools, then Password Manager, then Stored Passwords.
Scroll down toward the bottom of the list and you will find all of your
mail boxes identified by 'mailbox://'. Click on the box 'Show Passwords'
and, if one has been assigned to the mailbox ion question, you will be
able to see it. If no password has been assigned, I would delete the
mailbox entry and recreate the email account. Do not forget to click on
'Hide Passwords' to reset it.

Seems your Java is a bit out of date. Even linux has:

As out of date goes, the difference between 1.6.0_30 and 1.6.0_31 is

I see... so a 'critical' security release is pretty minor:

And to answer your question from your other post So do I or don't I
have Java enabled?: ensure that cookies and java is turned on and
 then go to:
 http://java.com/
- click on 'Do I have Java?'
 - that will take you to: http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp
  - Click on 'Verify Java Version'

If your Java is current, then is should come back with:

 Verified Java Version
 Congratulations!
You have the recommended Java installed (Version 6 Update 31).

So is that such a BFD that the time website won't work at all?

So let me get this correct: you ask in the other post So do I or don't
I have Java enabled?, I provide you with information to verify: 1)
that you have java enabled (or not), and 2) which version of Java you
have enabled. You then come back with dick swinging 'BFD' remark (were

Can you have an activity monitor running while you are typing to see if
the OS is off doing something else while the keystrokes wait in the
buffer? I had a serious case of that a few years ago that we traced to
a lot of extraneous re-paints.

I see that too, usually when typing a password;particularly when SM
gives me an unsolicited prompt for my Master and I don't catch that the
cursor has shifted to that dialog...like just now. I'm running the same
same setup as you, 4G of RAM installed.

Outside of the annoying (and long standing) random SM Master Password
prompt bug, I generally chalk the keystroke lag up to processor
overload...or USB arbitration. How many things have you got hooked up
and active, and how much RAM do you have installed?

You could always pull up Activity Monitor and give it a watch.

Re: Username / Password Q

My experience has shown that It DOES NOT work the same way as for http sites.
So far,all http sites are accepted and (i think - because i have so
few) all https sites are ignored.

So i have downloaded that add-on and as they say, We Shall See.

 THANKS.

It works the same way as for http sites. The problem is that some http
and https sites have code that blocks the saving of passwords. This can
be overcome in most (not all) cases with the Remember Passwords
extension from
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/seamonkey/addon/remember-passwords/.

For a few sites that use a JavaScript-generated window for login (e.g.,
Slashdot), I disable JavaScript before selecting the Login link to get
an alternative login Web page. I then enable JavaScript before
selecting the Login button on that page. I use the PrefBar extension to
toggle between enable and disable for JavaScript; there is a checkbox
for this on the PrefBar toolbar.

Re: Username / Password Q

2012-02-25 Thread Rufus

I've had to do this before, and this is one set of solutions -

http://www.werockyourweb.com/force-firefox-save-password

I know I did something to a .js file, but I can't recall what, exactly.

I also use an add-on called HTTPS Everywhere that forces every site
to/though https: if it is available and SM Password Manager seems to
still function as with http: navigation for those instances.
