I just wanted to chime in and say I hear you the address book issue
impact was under-estimated by me, and we will be building and releasing
a .2 version for this fix, there are some other changes that will roll
in with this, all of them equally beneficial [if not equally visible]

I don't have a concrete ETA on the release yet, but I can say it will be

THANK YOU :)

Also see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=796092, this will
work in SeaMonkey 2.16 and above. Also we probably should/need to port

Password saver has stopped working again

2012-10-26 Thread Bill Davidsen
Once again a new version has stopped supporting an extension to save all
passwords in human readable format. I'm not looking for a discussion of why this
is a good or bad thing, since it is a required thing for this client.

Reasons to do it:
- it's *their* hardware
- it's *their* passwords
- they pay me *their* money to do things *their* way
- the choice is to provide the list, on paper, within 24 hours of
any change, or stop working for them
- they're not asking for anything of mine, just theirs the way
  they want it.

So is there an extension which allows dumping the full content of the password
database into a text file or are we back to doing it by hand or using another
software?

So, pass on some of their money to the developers and pay

Try the Password Exporter extension at
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/seamonkey/addon/password-exporter/.
While the Web page says Not available for SeaMonkey 2.13.1, I am using
the extension with SeaMonkey 2.13.1.

After you install the extension --

1. Go to [Edit Preferences] on the SeaMonkey menu bar.

2. Select [Privacy Security Passwords] in the left column under
Category.

3. On the Passwords pane, select the Import/Export Passwords button.

4. On the Import/Export Passwords window, you can select either the
Export Passwords button or the View Saved Passwords button. The
former button throws up a file-selection window for saving the export,
with Save as type options of either XML or CSV. The latter provides a
display of all domains and user IDs with an option to display the actual
passwords.

If a master password exists, the above will require that it be entered.
Viewing the actual passwords in step #4 after selecting the View Saved
Passwords button will requiire the master password to be entered a
second time.

Once I get my re-install of W7 sorted out I will do that. Thanks for
the suggestion.

However, I doubt that's the answer (although ('m more than willing to be
surprised!). With SM NOT running at all I do not have this issue on the
system. Nothing else hangs. Only SM and only when Mail/News is
running. And also when Thunderbird is running and nothing else. It's
something in the Mail/News core. As I mentioned before I was
considering moving to Firefox and Thunderbird and quitting SM. So I
tested it. As soon as I ran TB the problem arose.

And, somtimes, it hangs the whole system. Can't toggle windows, click
on the Taskbar, etc. Sometimes the SM windows (all of them) will either
grey out or go totally blank for 5, 10, 15 seconds or more, their title
bars say a Windows message of SeaMonkey is not responding, but
eventually their video refreshes (like now!!!) and the windows are back
to normal. and I can hear the PC fans ramp up and go wild as the CPU
usage skyrockets.

Almost seems like an interaction between my video card/drivers and SM.
But I've been using this same card and drive since I upgraded to W7 in
October '09. Just started this nonsense about 18 months ago. And it's
getting worse.

However, as I've said, no other apps cause anything like this on this
system. Nor no other combination of apps. And it isn't happening on
any of my other three systems in the house.

This is maddening!

BTW, I just clicked Send on this. The fans in my PC went nuts, SM
froze. I opened Task Manager and SM CPU usage was crazy. It's settle
down now, allowing me to type this.

I just did a total re-install of Windows 7 Pro.

The first time I fired up SM mail? It took over the CPU and the

Could it have anything to do with your Anti Virus? I know if my

Thanks, no, tested, not an issue. Cripes. Just locked up for about 25
seconds while typing this reply.

Start up Windows in 'Safe Mode with Networking' and then run Seamonkey
and see what happens.

The fact that the problem is only encountered when mail/news are/is
active suggests that something is actively monitoring those functions
and in doing so causes an apparent Seamonkey 'hang' by removing the
focus from Seamonkey while some checking is being performed (thus the
cpu usage) which results in greyed-out options and the 'not responding'
indication.

As you have experienced, if you wait long enough, the focus comes back
to Seamonkey and all is well. That is why the suggestion to run windows
in 'Safe Mode with Networking' to eliminate most possibilities that it
is a Windows security function causing the problem.

Well, it seems to do it on a Mac as well, and I'm not running an
antivirus. One funny I've noticed, is that every once in a while
Seamonkey seem to kill smartd, after which my system will hang for 30
seconds at a time until smartd is restarted. Very weird interaction.

This isn't happening with 2.13.1 on any of my Macs...and I'm running
Norton AV.

This is very odd. I'm on the Mac and I cannot remember the last time
SeaMonkey has acted up or crashed. SeaMonkey, for me, has been rock
solid and crash/bug free. I would rate SeaMonkey 10/10 for stability.
I am using a late 2006 24 iMac running 10.7.5 2.1.6 Ghz Core2Duo with
2 GB memory.

Re: SM hangs the whole system

2012-10-26 Thread Paul Bergsagel

Ed Mullen

There are two things that may (or may not) be causing the trouble you
are experiencing with Seamonkey 1. Add ons and 2. corruption in your
user profile.
First try staring Seamonkey in safe mode which disables all your add
ons-open the browser and under the help menu click on restart with
Add-ons Disabled. Now open mail. If this solves the problem one of your
add-ons is causing a problem with mail.

If disabling add-ons does not work you may have a corruption with your
user profile. Before you do anything with your user profile make a
backup copy the user profile to another directory (preferably to an
external hard disk). Delete your user profile (you did make a backup to
restore to, right? if the profile is not causing the problem.) Open the
browser and under the Tools menu click on switch profile and create a
new profile. Using the newly created profile open mail. Does mail open
as expected and function properly? If so there is some corruption with
the older user profile you backed up and it is causing Mail to act weird
and crash.

If neither of these suggestions solve the problems you are having, I'm
sorry but I don't know what else to suggest. :(
