Re: SeaMonkey 2.48 released!---security certificate

2017-08-12 Thread Frank-Rainer Grahl

Yopu are probably using NoScript which tries to force https for a http site.

Please add download.cdn.mozilla.net to the "Never force secure (HTTPS)
connections" or turn off NoScript for this download only. The option is under
Advanced->HTTPS in the NoScript options.

Is anyone on this newsgroup in touch with the ubuntuzilla maintainer?
This release has been up for ten days and the PPA has yet to be
updated to offer this release.

Dave

Install using one of the links above and don't depend on PPA's.

I'm still waiting for Firefox 54.0.1 from Ubuntu, and Firefox 55 is out.
I just install their release to see how bad the delay is in getting the
new version out. I don't use it.

Ubuntuzilla just got 2.48 and I am now updated to the latest build.
Hopefully things will be more timely for later releases now that
SeaMonkey is back in production mode.

Did you install the 32-bit builds on a 64-bit Linux system?

If yes, you might want to try the linux-x86_64 builds:

How did you install it? Here is how I did it on many systems: Open a

cd Downloads

[2]
wget

[3]
tar -jxvf seamonkey-2.*.tar.bz2

[4]
sudo mv /opt/seamonkey /opt/seamonkey.bak

[5]
sudo mv ./seamonkey /opt/seamonkey

[6]
sudo chown -vR root:root /opt/seamonkey

[7]
sudo rm -Rv /opt/seamonkey.bak

Could the problem be that there is no SM 2.47 for SM 2.46 to update
to on it's way to SM 2.48.

I seem to recall, in the dime dark days, where a version was missed,
that some magic had to be done on the server, or wherever, to allow
the Update function to allow skipping a version.

You're probably thinking of the time that the SSL certificate on the
update server expired and was renewed in the unexpectedly long time
between one release and the next. When the old version looked for
updates, it didn't get the certificate it was expecting from the server
and concluded that something was intercepting your connection and trying
to trick it into installing something else.

Re: SeaMonkey 2.48 released!

2017-08-02 Thread mozilla-lists . mbourne

My understanding (which may be flawed) is basically:
1. SeaMonkey 2.46 checks a server at a particular address to find the
latest version and therefore whether an update is available
2. That server has been changed and, for whatever reason, now has a
different address
3. SeaMonkey <= 2.46 does not know about that change, and keeps checking
the old address
4. It doesn't find any updates, because the server is no longer at that
address
5. SeaMonkey >= 2.48 has the new address, so once that's installed it
can find and install future updates [*]
6. See 1 (There's a hole in my bucket...
)

The only thing "broken" about the update checker in 2.46 is that it
checks an address which was correct at the time it was released but
isn't any more.

There might be an about:config entry specifying the address check for
updates. But that can't be changed automatically without an update to do
it, so would be a manual change for a one-off update, and would probably
have to be reset afterwards to avoid the override breaking future
updates. Probably easiest and safest just to download the full installer
this one time!

Mark.

In that case, has anyone notified the maintainer of Ubuntuzilla that the
official release of 2.48 is now available? I would like to get back to
using that repository to update SeaMonkey as opposed to a manual install
every time an update comes out.

And with all the kvetching we've seen and done over the years about W3C

Switch of distribution servers. Could have probably made to work with much
more time invested but 2.48 is already late so it was just decided to release
it as is.
The next release will be 2.49.1 which should be up to date with the latest Fx

Doesn't explain why automatic upgrade doesn't work with v2.48. Is it just a
