I can sign in but my cursor just sits there. I cannot
access anything. Cannot even log out. How can I resolve
that? I have to go to Firefox to do my banking. I have used
SeaMonkey since NetScape and have my own domain so I want
to continue my email client in SM.

Edit | Preferences | Advanced | HTTP Network Check http 1.1
Check "Identify as SeaMonkey and advertise Firefox
compatibility" assuming you have SM version 2.53.3 or more
recent.

I hope this is the way I reply to you. My first time here.
Meagain...I am using 2.53.3 and I have had my preferences set
exactly that way for a long time. Not a techie but will try to
follow all suggestions. Thanks very much for trying.

Marion, that's peaked my interest Have you used SeaMonkey
2.53.3 previously to do your banking and it worked, except in the
past couple of days it's stopped working??

If that is the case, have you tried phoning your bank to see if
they've changed something their end?? E-mail them, maybe!! --

Daniel...I will try that. My experience has been that it's difficult
to find the right person to resolve things by phone. Will try email.
Also... can I edit my UA in about:config? This is all new to me. You
guys are making a techie out of me! Would maybe changing my
usbank.com string? My google string is ;Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1;
Win64; x64; rv:61.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/61.0

Yes, setting up a usbank.com string should work but I thought I'd
read here somewhere that you had tried that and it had failed!!

Set up a usbank.com override UA or adjust your 'normal' UA so that
everyone thinks you are using FF 78.0 or whatever.

Haven't heard back from UB yet but just noticed this. Clicked on SM help and
about has this: User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:60.0)
Gecko/20100101 Firefox/60.0 SeaMonkey/2.53.3
Can that be my problem? I don't find that UA when I go the my about:config

I agree with NFN Smith.
Try removing SeaMonkey/2.53.3 from the UA string.
If sites see anything other than what they want to see then they reject
all of it.

Thanks again, I removed SM/2.53.3 . I finally just put in the first ua that
David suggested.
I talked with a rep at USB awhile ago and he thinks they have probably stopped
supporting the browser because he couldn't ever get a coBrowse with me. He said
he was sending in a ticket and I should hear something in 2 or 3 days.

Just received this from USB:

Hello Marion,

I certainly want to make sure that you have online access. I'm sorry to hear
that the SeaMonkey browser is no longer supported. Thank you very much for
writing in.

The online banking site supports the following browsers:

Windows 7 or higher
•Google Chrome 57 or higher
•Internet Explorer 11 or higher
•Firefox 52 or higher
•EDGE 12 or higher

macOS 10 or higher
•Safari 10 or higher
•Google Chrome 57 or higher

In the email they continue to apologize but nothing is going to change the fact
that Sea Monkey is no longer supported here. I am also having other sites
warning that the browser is going to be discontinued.
Thanks to all of you for your amazing offers to help.. and God bless!
Marion

2.53.3 has a new option if you don't waqnt to fiddle with site specific
overrides: Edit->Preferencews->Advanced->HTTP Networking. Set User Agent
string to "Identify as Firefox". If The site still not work afterwards they
lied to you and longer support older Firefox versions.

FR

Thanks FR...that is one of the first things I tried. It doesn't work for
USB...maybe it would for others.

Then, as I wrote, they lied to you and on the website. With this setting
SeaMonkey identifies as "100%" Firefox so if they support version 52 and up it
should work with this setting.

Would maybe changing my
usbank.com string? My google string is ;Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1;

Go back to my first reply in this thread.

In step #3, instead of general.useragent.override.usbank.com try
general.useragent.override

In step #4, instead of Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64;
rv:75.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/75.0 try Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1;
Win64; x64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0 This will make ALL
Web sites think you are using Firefox/52.0.

If you want other sites to recognize that you are using SeaMonkey,

1. After you are through banking again go to about:config

2. In the Search area enter general.useragent.override

3. Select general.useragent.override under Preference Name,
right-click, and select Resert from the pull-down context menu.

That should work except rather than the "Firefox/52.0" I would have
left it at the "Firefox/75.0" as that is the more up-to-date UserAgent
string ... so, logically, that should be valid longer!!

Hello Marion,

I certainly want to make sure that you have online access. I'm sorry to hear
that the SeaMonkey browser is no longer supported. Thank you very much for
writing in.

The online banking site supports the following browsers:

Windows 7 or higher
•Google Chrome 57 or higher
•Internet Explorer 11 or higher
•Firefox 52 or higher
•EDGE 12 or higher

macOS 10 or higher
•Safari 10 or higher
•Google Chrome 57 or higher

In the email they continue to apologize but nothing is going to change the fact
that Sea Monkey is no longer supported here. I am also having other sites
warning that the browser is going to be discontinued.
Thanks to all of you for your amazing offers to help.. and God bless!
Marion

Thanks again, I removed SM/2.53.3 . I finally just put in the first ua that
David suggested.
I talked with a rep at USB awhile ago and he thinks they have probably stopped
supporting the browser because he couldn't ever get a coBrowse with me. He said
he was sending in a ticket and I should hear something in 2 or 3 days.

I agree with NFN Smith.
Try removing SeaMonkey/2.53.3 from the UA string.

about:config is just a UI to settings that are in the underlying
prefs.js file. Unless you're using general.useragent.override settings,
you won't see any version information there.

Take a look at about:support instead.

One other possible thing that could be happening is that default
settings for Seamonkey include "advertise Firefox compatibility", and
that gets around most of the sites that are looking for Firefox.
However, there's a few sites that will complain about an unsupported
browser if the presented User Agent string shows anything except stock
Firefox.

I've found that effect at Google's home page, where there's a display
quirk, where the search bar shows a cursor a half line offset. It's not
really a problem, so much as an annoyance, and through on-the-fly
spoofing that I do with PrefBar, I've confirmed that Google's display
comes from seeing the combination of Firefox and Seamonkey, and if I
show just a stock Firefox string, then the display is correct.

Thus I have general.useragent.override.google.com set to show only Firefox.

As noted separately, I suspect that for any response you get fro USBank
support, "Seamonkey" is likely to cause them to end the conversation. As
far as they're concerned, they're supporting Firefox (and it's likely
that they prefer Chrome and support Firefox and Safari, and maybe IE or
Edge, and reluctantly, only because the others are too widely used to
ignore), and they draw the line there. In their view, if you want to
use something else, it's up to you to figure it out, and they're not
going to spend time helping you.

Try making the SM UA override the same as with the FF that works.
You can make it bank specific if necessary.

Have you tried faking your user-agent? If you use a user-agent override

I use PrefBar's useragent Extlist for the same purpose. However, I
wanted to advise the original poster without suggesting the installation
of an extension, especially since I did not know then what version of
SeaMonkey was being used and thus did not know what extension might be
compatible.

After a quick glance-through of other responses, I'll put a response here...

1) Make sure you clear your cache and cookies. Sites that are heavy on
scripting sometimes can have difficulties displaying properly, and
clearing your cache can help by forcing new copies of everything. This
may not do anything for you, but it's something that's quick to do. I
will note that I can get to usbank.com, with no obvious problems, but
that's only the front page, and I can't see what's happening with login
processes.

2) You note that you have both NoScript and uBlock Origin installed. I
have both myself, and while I don't see frequent problems with uBlock, I
frequently fight with NoScript, because I have it set to block
everything as a default, and then temporarily whitelist. At some sites,
it can take multiple rounds of enabling scripting hosts, before the
essential script will run. One that I've found is Google's gstatic for
rendering fonts often doesn't run until I've enabled numerous other
scripting hosts. And with enabling hosts, it's often not easy to tell
which are essential for displaying a page, and which are are related to
advertising networks.

As an experiment, you may want to temporarily disable both of these
add-ons, just to see what difference there is. Restarting Seamonkey in
Safe Mode (Help -> Reatart with Add Ons Disabled) can also do that, if
you haven't tried already.

3) Browser identity could be a problem, and since that's been discussed
down-thread, I won't put a lot of detail here.

This is a place where financial institutions tend to be more aggressive
about demanding certain browsers (typically IE, Chrome, Firefox and
Safari). If you get a complaint about your browser, even if the message
is worded to indicate that your browser has inadequate capacity, I've
found that to be bogus. If I spoof something that's current, I rarely
have problems getting through. The real reason is a matter of tech
support coming from the site. They want "Firefox", not "like Firefox"
or "Firefox derived". If you're interacting with their tech support,
they want you to be running what their support people see on their own
screens, where they can be done with interacting with you as quickly as
possible. Seamonkey's different UI (especially for config settings) is a
a non-starter, and if you tell them that you're running something else,
they'll end the conversation right there with "we don't support that".

But I will encourage you to add an entry to about:config, setting
general.useragent.override.usbank.com, to show a version of Firefox
they're likely to accept. Either of these is likely to work for you:

   Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:60.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/60.0
   Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101
Firefox/68.0

Don't worry about the differences between Win 7 and Win 10, they're
unlikely to be significant. I do quite a bit of browser spoofing,
including places where I spoof that I'm using Mac or Linux, as well as
Windows, and also other browsers, such as Chrome. The only thing that
the browser sniffers are looking for (usually) is Firefox version that
they consider to be acceptable -- that is, the version following "Firefox/".

4) One other thing that could be causing you problems is your cookie
handling policy. Personally, I allow all first-party cookies, and then I
discard all cookies at the end of my browsing session. I disallow
third-party cookies, and there are occasions that sites will refuse to
work unless third-party cookies are allowed. You can try whitelisting
sites, but that takes some work to figure out. Basically, you have to
temporarily accept all cookies, to find out which sites are setting
cookies, and then you have to guess which sites to whitelist.

In my own usage, I have a second profile in Seamonkey that I call "bare
metal", where the only non-default settings are to flush user data at
the end of the session. If a site is giving me problems in such a way
that I can't find the necessary tweaks to get it to work, it's useful to
use the bare metal profile, to see how things work in default
conditions. That's good for figuring out if the site is really
objecting to Seamonkey, or if it's something in my normal profile that
isn't working quite correctly.

With that in mind, I also have Firefox installed, where I have multiple
profiles, including one with all my personal preference settings, and
another with bare metal default settings. If I'm having problems with a
site (especially e-commerce related), and I don't want to take the time
to restart Seamonkey, I tend to launch Firefox on the

You are all awesome! I finally decided to email the Bank. I have always used
the phone but sometimes you get transferred numerous times and dropped etc.
Will let you know the results of that. In the meantime I will continue to jump
over to FireFox for banking. Actually for the past several months SM was
crashing several times a day and I was needing FireFox to get anything done. My
email was getting really unstable but after I went to 2.53.3 it all seemed to
settle down.
God Bless and hopefully USB will respond soon.

Try making the SM UA override the same as with the FF that works.

Install Chrome and call US BANK Technical support: 1 (877) 202-0043
Write down all the information.
Once you get that working you should be able to create a new SM entry
after deleting all the old SM info on US BANK.

I found the useragent override was not sufficient for accessing Chase

Regarding Windows 7 vs Windows 10, I had a problem similar to yours with
the US Postal service's Web site. I have Windows 7 and SeaMonkey
2.49.5. What I described for you is what I use for the Postal Service
except, instead of
general.useragent.override.usbank.com
I have
general.useragent.override.usps.com

That is okay. All this will do is make US Bank's server think you are
using Firefox 75 with Windows 10. It does NOT require you to use either
Firefox 75 itself or Windows 10 itself.

If that is not working, then there is something else in your setup that
the bank's server does not like. I will give you an example from my own
usage.

I normally Web surf with the following preferences:
"Advertise Firefox compatibility" disabled
Cookies for the requested Web site only
Popups blocked
Images from other domains blocked
HTML5 Media and Flash disabled
An extension that befuddles attempts to track me
AdBlock Plus enabled
And there might be others.

However, four financial institutions with which I have frequent
Web-based transactions really do not like that setup. So I created a
separate profile with some of those preferences changed:
Popups enabled
Images from all domains enabled
HTML5 Media and Flash endabled
The extension that befuddles attempts not installed in the profile
AdBlock Plus enabled but only for certain unrelated sites that set
cookies (Yahoo, Amazon, Youtube, others, none of which I
visit while using my financial institutions profile)
For one institution, all cookies are enabled

Try making the SM UA override the same as with the FF that works.
You can make it bank specific if necessary.

The Win 10 one should work ok... if it works at all.
Win 7 is actually NT6.1.

Have you installed any blockers or add-ons?

Thank you for your suggestions. I have been using both Browsers but since I do
my Banking online, and operate a small biz I with multiple accts I prefer to
use this Browser. If I possibly can. But I noticed I have some suggestions here
that I will try to follow. I am not a techie so I appreciate everyone who is

I can sign in but my cursor just sits there. I cannot access anything. Cannot
even log out. How can I resolve that? I have to go to Firefox to do my banking.
I have used SeaMonkey since NetScape and have my own domain so I want to

Edit | Preferences | Advanced | HTTP Network
Check http 1.1
Check "Identify as SeaMonkey and advertise Firefox compatibility"
assuming you have SM version 2.53.3 or more recent.

My first thought is to change banks.

I used to bank with a small community bank. It had a branch close to
where I worked and another one that I passed commuting between work and
home. It was an early adopter of direct deposit for payroll. They
charged me no account fee. When my office moved, I did not change
banks. A year or more would go by without me needing to even call the
bank, let alone visit a branch. If I wanted to deposit a check, the
bank provided pre-paid bank-by-mail envelopes. The envelopes were
addressed to the branch where my account was based. They would then
mail me the deposit receipt along with another bank-by-mail envelope.

US Bank bought up that small bank. Then, they required me to provide my
own envelopes to bank-by-mail. The envelop had to be mailed to US
Bank's main office (about 3-4 days instead of 1 day). If I wanted a
deposit receipt, I had to include my own return, stamped envelope. I
changed to another small community bank.

My second thought, however, involves you keeping your US Bank account.

1. In SeaMonkey, enter about:config in the URI area (address bar),
dismissing any warning popup.

2. Right-click anywhere on the list of preference variables and select
[New > String] from the pull-down context menu.

3. In the "New string value" dialogue, enter
general.useragent.override.usbank.com
and then select the OK button.

4. In the "Enter string value" dialogue, enter
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:75.0)
Gecko/20100101 Firefox/75.0
all as a single line (Pardon the line wrap above.) and then select the
OK button.

NOTE: In step #4, you might enter a different user agent (UA) string if
you know of a more recent one for Firefox or one for a Mac instead of
this one, which is for Windows.

If the problem is limited to your bank or just a few sites, why not just
Firefox for those sites?

You can still use SM for your email, and for your general browsing.

I probably have half a dozen sites that don't open properly in SM any more; but
I also have sites that won't open in Firefox, or in Chrome, but open fine in SM
-- so using more than one browser now seems inevitable...

The gurus here may be able to get you onto your bank site with SM, but it seems
