Thunderbird has all in all been a very good substitute for my old
Eudora, though the spell checker doesn't give me a lot of confidence
at times. And of course, I really don't like not being able to use the

Thanks to the list member who suggested renaming the main Thunderbird

Thunderbird 31.7, which allows mouse key access to the screen, has
been reinstalled once again.

Thunderbird.exe has been renamed to Thunderbird 317.exeand Tools,
Options, Advanced, update was inspected in order to determine whether
the programme was still being told not to update.

The reinstallation of 31.7 and file renaming was done while not
connected to the net so no automatic updating could take place until
the renaming was completed. A new Desktop shortcut was made to
reflect the new filename.

Version 31.7 was used to write this message.

Now I'll just have to wait for a few days to see if Thunderbird
version 38.1 installs itself once again.

Cheers
Neville.

Hello,

I use my computers for several hours per day. Am on and off the Web doing
research, and I also use MS Word and Excel very often.

I have been using computers since the early 1980's, and old Tandy Radio Shack
Model 3/4 with Trsdos. Those were the days when I final was able to use a Word
Processor and could edit my own writings without having to get the help of a
sighted person. It was great!

A lot of changes from then to now. I started using Vocal-eyes very early on,
and have been a GW Micro customer for years now.

A couple years ago, I bought Office 2010, this after using Office 2001 for a
long time.

I have just never gotten the hang of using the new Ribbon layout Microsoft has
now gone to using.

I have also been rather aggravated about Windows 8 and 7, as I seem to be
able to find stuff, then can't find it when I need it.I have found
Win 7 and 8 to be about twice as clunky and Funky as Win xP.

Call me an Old Dog that has reached his point of not being able to adjust to
the Newest design, but it looks like I have become that old
Dog.And no one is more surprised than me!

I do a lot of research, a lot On Line. I will use my Win 7 or 8 system to do
the On Line work. But I am thinking of building a very quick and solid Win XP
system, running Win Eyes 8.4 and Office 2001.

I won't be going On Line with this system, as XP has limited success doing this
these days.

but since I do a Lot of writing, I figure, I can use the older Office 2001, and
be a Happy Camper.

However, if I install my old Win XP operating System on a system, will I be
able to download the updates , such as service pacts 2 and 3, plus all of the
updates to Office 2001?

if Microsoft has stopped supporting this old software, are there other sources
for these updates, or is Microsoft still providing them. And
what about typing in my Authentication codes for both XP and Office?
Since both of these packages are no longer supported, am I just tuff out of
Luck?

Sue,
I have not used FileHippo but I believe it's a repository or collection of
various computer programs. If that's what it is I want to warn you about being
cautious when using sites like this. From what I'm reading, many of these file
collections are now bundling extra software in the installers which, while not
technically a virus, is often considered malware as it can add toolbars and
other unwanted items to your browser.
When I want to get an update for a particular program, I try and go to the Web
site of the developer of the software and download directly from that site. As
an example, if I want to download a demo copy of Window-Eyes onto a computer
I'd make sure that I download it from AISquared's official Web site, even if a
site like Download.com or FileHippo.com claims that they have a demo of the
latest version.
Even while doing that, some developers (not AI Squared) can add this sort of
unwanted software in their installers. I'm not saying you shouldn't do this or
that you shouldn't download from file repositories but please be cautious.
Personally, I'd avoid those sites like the plague.
Here's a link to a HowtoGeek article talking about the top file repositories
and how they try to force malware on you, including FileHippo. Some of the
language contained in this article is a bit crass and it's not how I'd choose
to write this piece but the information is still valuable.

If you look at the devices/synthersizers section of the WE Control Panel,
you should find options on setting the default sound card. You can
definitely change this with eloquence, I don't know about other speech

Greetings,
Using WE9.1 on a 32bit PC.
I have been having problems with my cursor moving up or down the list of
files in a directory or subdirectory. When opening a directory or
subdirectory often pushing the cursor provides no speech or movement down
the list. The same thing is true when I press a the letter beginning a
filename. Sometimes closing the directory and returning to the desktop will
solve the problem, sometimes not. Also rebooting often solves the problem
for a time. I have found no satisfactory solution for this very annoying
issue.

We have seen some file repository sites wrap Window-eyes for Office in their
junk ware installer.
I always tell people not to google Window-eyes for office but to go directly
to windoweyesforoffice.com to download the product as we have control of
those files.

Sue,
I have not used FileHippo but I believe it's a repository or collection of
various computer programs. If that's what it is I want to warn you about
being cautious when using sites like this. From what I'm reading, many of
these file collections are now bundling extra software in the installers
which, while not technically a virus, is often considered malware as it can
add toolbars and other unwanted items to your browser.
When I want to get an update for a particular program, I try and go to the
Web site of the developer of the software and download directly from that
site. As an example, if I want to download a demo copy of Window-Eyes onto a
computer I'd make sure that I download it from AISquared's official Web
site, even if a site like Download.com or FileHippo.com claims that they
have a demo of the latest version.
Even while doing that, some developers (not AI Squared) can add this sort of
unwanted software in their installers. I'm not saying you shouldn't do this
or that you shouldn't download from file repositories but please be
cautious.
Personally, I'd avoid those sites like the plague.
Here's a link to a HowtoGeek article talking about the top file repositories
and how they try to force malware on you, including FileHippo. Some of the
language contained in this article is a bit crass and it's not how I'd
choose to write this piece but the information is still valuable.

Re: Window-eyes Startup sound Disappeared

2015-07-14 Thread net bat via Talk
the wineyes options are in the control panel sounds menu. but the wineyes wave
files are in the c:\program files x86\window eyes folder. not in the
windows\media folder. and you will have to search for this folder from the
windows sound menu in the control panel.

Yes, I have lost sounds like the download is complete sound that seems to be
from window eyes, and the starting download and percentage stuff. I have
other sounds, though. It seems to have happened from my AVG, even though I
had a person in ai squared help me tell AVG to leave the folder alone. This
leads me to believe that the sounds that go along with window eyes are
somewhere else? Pam.

I posted a similar problem yesterday but have heard nothing back. I
have some sounds but have lost others. Maybe nobody else has ever had
this problem.

Re: Outlook Enhance add-in

2015-07-14 Thread Nancy B. Gibson via Talk

Hi List,

Maybe a dumb question but here goes. I looked at the Outlook Enhanced app.
help file and it talks about using it with Outlook 2010. Does that mean that
what the app does and what the help file advises doesn't work with Outlook
2007? I'm new to Outlook and am still trying to figure out how to use it and
how well it works with WE.

Thanks,
Nancy

Re: Changing WE from One Sound card to Another

2015-07-14 Thread Tom Kingston via Talk
Here's the catch. While you can assign Window-Eyes speech output to any
audio interface and specific output on that interface Windows and
Window-Eyes sounds will always use whatever the default device is. So
Window-Eyes sounds will not follow its speech output. This may or may
not be a problem, depending on what you're doing.

Hello. Besides using my computer for email and word-processing, I want to
use it for different communications modes in ham radio. I'm considering
getting some equipment that will enable me to utilize other modes of digital
communications. Some of this equipment has built-in USB sound cards for use
with my radio. Is it possible to split up how the sound cards (USB and the
PC's buil-in sound cards are used? Put another way, I want Window-Eyes to
go through my computer's sound card while having the radio use the USB sound
card. Ideas? Thanks in advance.--Matthew Chao, N1IBB.
