Thunderbird.exe has been renamed to Thunderbird 317.exeand Tools, Options, Advanced, update was inspected in order to determine whether the programme was still being told not to update. The reinstallation of 31.7 and file renaming was done while not connected to the net so no automatic updating could take place until the renaming was completed. Am on and off the Web doing research, and I also use MS Word and Excel very often. I have been using computers since the early 1980's, and old Tandy Radio Shack Model 3/4 with Trsdos. Those were the days when I final was able to use a Word Processor and could edit my own writings without having to get the help of a sighted person. It was great! A lot of changes from then to now. I started using Vocal-eyes very early on, and have been a GW Micro customer for years now. A couple years ago, I bought Office 2010, this after using Office 2001 for a long time. I have just never gotten the hang of using the new Ribbon layout Microsoft has now gone to using. I have also been rather aggravated about Windows 8 and 7, as I seem to be able to find stuff, then can't find it when I need it.I have found Win 7 and 8 to be about twice as clunky and Funky as Win xP. Call me an Old Dog that has reached his point of not being able to adjust to the Newest design, but it looks like I have become that old Dog.And no one is more surprised than me! I do a lot of research, a lot On Line. I will use my Win 7 or 8 system to do the On Line work. But I am thinking of building a very quick and solid Win XP system, running Win Eyes 8.4 and Office 2001. I won't be going On Line with this system, as XP has limited success doing this these days. but since I do a Lot of writing, I figure, I can use the older Office 2001, and be a Happy Camper. However, if I install my old Win XP operating System on a system, will I be able to download the updates , such as service pacts 2 and 3, plus all of the updates to Office 2001? if Microsoft has stopped supporting this old software, are there other sources for these updates, or is Microsoft still providing them. Hi, What Dave says is true. We have seen some file repository sites wrap Window-eyes for Office in their junk ware installer. I always tell people not to google Window-eyes for office but to go directly to windoweyesforoffice.com to download the product as we have control of those files. Sue, I have not used FileHippo but I believe it's a repository or collection of various computer programs. If that's what it is I want to warn you about being cautious when using sites like this. From what I'm reading, many of these file collections are now bundling extra software in the installers which, while not technically a virus, is often considered malware as it can add toolbars and other unwanted items to your browser. When I want to get an update for a particular program, I try and go to the Web site of the developer of the software and download directly from that site. As an example, if I want to download a demo copy of Window-Eyes onto a computer I'd make sure that I download it from AISquared's official Web site, even if a site like Download.com or FileHippo.com claims that they have a demo of the latest version. Even while doing that, some developers (not AI Squared) can add this sort of unwanted software in their installers. I'm not saying you shouldn't do this or that you shouldn't download from file repositories but please be cautious. Personally, I'd avoid those sites like the plague. Here's a link to a HowtoGeek article talking about the top file repositories and how they try to force malware on you, including FileHippo. Some of the language contained in this article is a bit crass and it's not how I'd choose to write this piece but the information is still valuable. http://www.howtogeek.com/207692/yes-every-freeware-download-site-is-serving-crapware-heres-the-proof/?PageSpeed=noscript David Goldfield, Assistive Technology Specialist Feel free to visit my Web site www.davidgoldfield.info On 7/13/2015 10:08 PM, Sue J Ward via Talk wrote: Hello. cursor movement issues
Greetings, Using WE9.1 on a 32bit PC. I have been having problems with my cursor moving up or down the list of files in a directory or subdirectory. When opening a directory or subdirectory often pushing the cursor provides no speech or movement down the list. The same thing is true when I press a the letter beginning a filename. Sometimes closing the directory and returning to the desktop will solve the problem, sometimes not. Also rebooting often solves the problem for a time. I have found no satisfactory solution for this very annoying issue. Thank you for providing helpful solutions. Grant Bartimaeus Alliance of the Blind, Inc. One thing that I particularly enjoyed about that synthesizer was its snappy responsiveness, it could stop on a dime. Re: file hippo alternatives that are free that will work with WE.
Hello. I use ninite all of the time and alternative flash player auto updater for updating flash and I did contact ninite if they could add that to their software list, they can not do it cause of adobe. I have used alternative flash player updater before, once in a while when ever there is an update it does install this toolbar addon called web companion by lavasoft. I had to get rid of the software several times quite annoying. What do you use to update to adobe flash player? I also read in a recent news article that fire fox hasturn off the adobe flash player plug in for now since it is a security problem, have not noticed it on my end, cause most of the time in order to listen to radio or you tube web content I use Google chrome. I am wondering what is yahoo going to do when the flash player is dead? On 7/14/2015 6:32 PM, Vic Pereira via Talk wrote: The good news is that the article does support using NINITE. Re: Changing WE from One Sound card to Another
Here's the catch. While you can assign Window-Eyes speech output to any audio interface and specific output on that interface Windows and Window-Eyes sounds will always use whatever the default device is. So Window-Eyes sounds will not follow its speech output. This may or may not be a problem, depending on what you're doing. Hi, All. When I try to copy something to the clipboard on the National Weather Service site (after attempting to highlight the material I want clipboarded), I can't seem to copy anyting to the clipboard. What's happening, and is there a workaround for it? Plan to be doing digital communications modes, which could be a problem if the sounds don't go with WE to the default sound card.--Matthew Chao At 01:26 PM 7/14/2015 -0400, you wrote: Here's the catch.
