Re: Mozilla Firefox and Window-Eyes strange character skipping bug

2015-09-12 Thread Keith Hinton via Talk
Wanted to update the read to end and Facebook status character bug
report to mention that maybe this isn't ESpeak specific, but Mozilla
Firefox specific.
I don't have these behaviors happening in Internet Explorer, for
instance, or other edit box controls.
But in Mozilla, most surely.

2015-09-12 Thread Keith Hinton via Talk
Hi Mark,
I only have ESpeak and the Microsoft Speech platform here at the
moment as voice options, but the issues I have written about appear to
be ESpeak specific.
I know from experience that Eloquence wouldn't do this out of the box,
etc as well.
I was able to read the last Facebook status that was reading in a
strange way perfectly with the Microsoft speech platform, that didn't
read right using ESpeak.
Cool, I guess, grin!
Regards,
Keith.
However, I can reproduce one issue, regardless of speech synthesizer
utilized with the latest stable Window-Eyes.
That read to end bug I wrote about where the last word Window-Eyes
encounters gets repeated, in this case my name a few moments ago,
repeated Keith over and over and over without pause until I shut up
speech myself, and I don't have ESpeak being used at the moment.
Only work around for that particular bug is to put a blank line at the
eend of a email, etc.
However, I should note this behavior is happening inside Mozilla
Firefox, and surprisingly, not Notepad as my test application!
Wow!
Mozilla Firefox is my default browser.
And if it helps, always use the cursor keys to navigate with in pages
is checked under the options area, I wonder if that's causing some of
fthis behavior like read to end being odd?

Mozilla Firefox and Window-Eyes strange character skipping bug

2015-09-12 Thread Keith Hinton via Talk
Hi folks,
I'm currently running Windows 7 64 bit Professional, Window-Eyes 9.2,
Office 2010, and the latest version of Mozilla Firefox is installed,
with all Window-Eyes apps currently updated.
I have tested this with multiple video resolutions, and no matter what
I change it to, it doesn't help.
What is happening is that on m.Facebook.com, even with a maximized
browser window, Window-Eyes while reading statuses totally skips over
characters that I know are on the screen. Redrawing the screen,
changing video resolutions, etc doesn't help. So, here is an example.
I might type a status like:
Hi folks, I'm hanging out and sending the bug reports like I usually do.
But Window-Eyes will read once it's posted something like this:
Hi folks, I'm hanging out and sending th bug reports like I usual do.
It's totally skipping over characters that no other sccreen reader,
NVDA, JAWS, System Access, etc, is missing on the screen while using
m.Facebook.com.
I have tested with all of the above tools here, and include them in my
description of the problem.
Only Window-Eyes, which is my primary start up screen reader, has this problem.
The other bug report I want to mention is that during a read to end,
Window-Eyes on large web pages with loads of comments etc sometimes
pauses for ages before continueing to speak then pauses, for over five
seconds on some pages, then continues reading, but ultimately stops
reading all together.
Also, if the last line in a read to end is not a blank line,
Window-Eyes will forever repeat the last word it landed on.
For an example, feel free to read any of the reviews on:
http://www.aworkathomebusinesses.com

You will find that there can be over 200 comments and that if you
start a say all, this odd pausing bug will occur.
As for the last line being repeated forever if the last line is not a
blank line in a read to end?
Find anything, text, Word, or whatever documents, or maybe web pages
(haven't tested those), put lots of text in to a document, insure the
last line contains a word, and whatever word that cursor lands on
should repeat continuesly without control being pressed to shut up
speech.
Thanks!

Profiles

2015-09-09 Thread Keith Hinton via Talk
Hi folks,
I haven't done this in Window-Eyes for probably over a year.
But my default profile uses the settings I like, I.e. Speech rate,
synthesizer, etc.
What I'm trying to remember how to do is say, how to get those
settings to also apply to the log in screen profile.
The speech synthesizer and rate that Window-Eyes uses at the log on
screen is totally different from my present profile changes.
But like I say, I haven't messed with this in ages.
I do have advanced options enabled, however.
ANy pointers would be appreciated.
Any ponitters would be appreciated.
What I'm trying to do is to take the settings my profile uses and
apply them to the one that is used at the log on screen.
Thanks!

Regards,
Keith

A tip for those with Intel cards just in case you screw up rotation anyways.

2015-09-06 Thread Keith Hinton via Talk
Hi folks,
I wanted to pass along a tip for those of you with computers that have
an Intel graphics card such as my machines.
I thought this might help some of you out.
I was using a different screen reader at the time when this happened
that does not hook the keyboard at the same level Window-Eyes does,
and messed up my rotation. I had no sighted help around, but I knew
that somehow I'd messed up the rotation.
Not knowing what to do, I checked in my Intel graphics notification
icon, and found an option to adjust rotations.
There was all kinds of things: rotating to 90 degrees, rotating to
100, and some others I didn't understand but one option I checked
which has stayed that way is "rotate to normal"
You may be able to find that when you bring up the context menu for
your specific Intel video card just in case you do somehow mess up
rotation on accident.
I don't know how many Window-Eyes users would care about rotation, or
even need to care about this particular tip, but I thought that
nevertheless, this tip might be of help to some of you on this list in
the future.
I hope that this has been of value to at least somebody.
If you have gotten value out of this tip, feel free to let me know.

keith

Re: Chicken nugget and we issue.

Hi, this isn't happening for me, but I have stuffed insane amounts of
Ram in to my 64-bit machine, and am runing on well over the amount
that msot people run there machines at, so there you have it.
I've got over 4 Gb easily in this box, with Window-Eyes 9.2, and Windows 7 X64.
I'm sorry I can't be of further help.
Can you give a bit more information on the machine that you have?
How much Ram do you have installed?
4GB?
If so, the problem could be a Chicken Nugget memory leek problem.
In which case, I'd advise you to try Window-Eyes out with something like TWBlue.
I don't suggest you use TheQube, as that client has massive bugs anyways.
In fact, just about all of them are buggy as heck to be honest, but
lots of users who had problems many of them with Chicken Nugget, are
having success with TWBlue stable builds.
I hope this helps!

Keith

One other thing.
How long have you had Windows on that machine for?
Windows installations like any other thing can get old and just need a
clean installation from time to time.
But I wouldn't advise you try that if you don't feel up to it of
course, but that's also a possibility that came to mind.

Hi folks! I'm wondering if synthesizer authorizations are tide to my Window-Eyes profile found in the appdata directory?

2015-09-05 Thread Keith Hinton via Talk
Hi everybody!
I'm back on the list, I guess for some reason my email was removed
after a period of inactivity.
I've been very busy with education stuff, so when I didn't notice any
emails from the list after getting an email about being unsubscribed
specificly from this list, I decided to reactivate my subscription.
I sent this message out yesterday then forgot that most likely it
wouldn't have any effect and that therefore I couldn't receive the
help I needed from the community.

SO, here is what I'm curious about.
You all know about the fact that applications store user profiles in
our appdata directories.
But what I'm not sure about since I'm presently working with
Window-Eyes for Office, is if I were to buy extra voices, would those
authorizations then be dependent upon that user profile?
There are times where I've made so many changes to the profile at
times that I'll go in, and actually erase the profile for Window-Eyes,
relaunch Window-Eyes and run back through the getting started wizard
at times.
I don't mind doing that at the moment, but I'm not working with extra
voices either.
So I need to know if doing that in the future should I get voices
would actually cause potential problems that I could save myself from
at some point in the future.
Thanks so much for reading, I appreciate any responses from the
community or AI Squared staff.
Take care folks.

Regards,
Keith

Window-Eyes and VirtualBox

2015-08-04 Thread Keith Hinton via Talk
Hello folks,
I am curious if Window-Eyes would work with a QT written application
like VirtualBox for running virtual machines.
I am curious if users, or staff members at AISquaired have ever had
the chance to try running Window-Eyes with it beore or would be
willing to find out if it's doable or not.
I am considering deploying VirtualBox since it is a freeware
application at some point, plus it offers far more features than
VMware does.
And I am wondering if anybody has tested VirtualBox with Window-Eyes,
especially the most current version, and VirtualBox5.0, the latest
stable.
I would like to know if anybody has tested this or might be able to do so.
It would be fun if I could install it and Window-Eyes just hhappened
to work well with it.
Thanks for any thoughts!
P.s.
This isn't something for the average non technical user.
You need to be a power user, somebody who will frequently do software
testing and development and such in virtual environments etc to really
know what a virtual machine is and how they work.
If your not up tot he chalenge of possibly looking in to my quesiton,
then I would suggest that you don't try it if you don ot know what
your doing.
Virtual machine environments aren't for the faint at heart to just try
to install randomly if they don't know what they're doing on any
computer sytem ever built.
You need extra RAM and disk space usually, and I'd say more than just
4 GB of RAM installed.
Otherwise you're host operating system, the main
one your running the VM environments on will crash and possibly become unstable.

keith

Re: downgrading to window-eyes 9.1

2015-08-04 Thread Keith Hinton via Talk
There is separate from Window-Eyes for Office, or even the retail
version, a 60 day evaluation that one can install to test Window-Eyes.
And that is free of charge. After the 60 days, you'd need to reinstall
Windows again to repeat the process if you weren't sure, or possibly
get Window-Eyes for Office, or pay for Window-Eyes at full price.
Unless of course, you don't mind rebooting every 30 minutes after the
fact. So there you go. Also remember please that Window-Eyes is not
for everybody. No screen reader can be nor operating system choice for
that matter. In the future, I would recommend saving the version
installers. I have 9.1, 9.2,9.0, and 8.4, for example of the
Window-Eyes for Ofice installers at the time they they were
respectively available. Also, keep in mind that AISquared is not the
only company having you use current products. Serotek is this way as
well. If Freedom Scientific is for you, then maybe it is. Or possibly
NVDA, or even VoiceOver. The point is, Window-Eyes is a possibility.
And it is certainly not a requirement. I hope this helps. And Chris,
if you need one of htose Window-Eyes for Office installers as that's
all I have her, I can talk with you off list about htat. Widnow-Eyes
9.2 is the current release, so that's all you'll ever get automaticly.
Take advantage o saving fiels while you can while the releases are
production before they get replaced by new executables.

Keith

Re: windows 10 are you willing to give up your privacy?

2015-08-01 Thread Keith Hinton via Talk
In today's Internet connected world, I believe that privacy died a
long time ago honestly. We have never had it. And we never will. Sites
most of them sell infomration, and rent them out to other companies,
as part of data collection practices. The NSA has been spying on us
for over 10 years. So, do I personally believet hat we still have any
privacy at all? No. Now, do some times and people protect our privacy
with them for hwatever they do? Most certainly. But remember this. The
Intenret is a public resource. So, if you truely want privacy, turn
off your computers, stop using your cards, go back to cash or paper
checks, sshut down all bank accounts, etc. Only speak to people once
you've looked around for bug tracking devices, etc. Think on that.

And I'd prefer to have all voices just owrk out of hte box that

I own a business I need to save up money to make investments in it

So, ultimately having to pay for support is a large deal breaker.
Requiring that Office be installed like I say is not at all funny to
me, and ultimately, I'd just like to pay for the occasional SMA.
I am sure AISquared makes paying for the SMA easy and quick.
DO they make you sign a Braille form or something crazy then mail it back?
Or can they just charge your card for you over the phone or online?
Either way, I think maintaining an agreement with them is worth it.
So there is my opinion especially regarding the personal touch.
I'd appreciate knowing from you SMA users how easy it has been to pay
for them when you've had to.

Tips For Those Doing New Upgrades!

2015-07-27 Thread Keith Hinton via Talk
Hello everybody,
I wanted to be absolutely sure you folks are aware of this.
Several of you no doubt arre, but during upgrades like this, the
server or servers that are used get hammered so that some people can't
upgrade successfully.
Another problem can be ISP packet inspection and other similar issues
between you and the AISquared servers and other crazy Internet related
things.
So keep all of this in mind.
The Internet is great, but when servers are hammered, some do better
than others.
I hope this helps!

Re: upgrading to windows 10

2015-06-03 Thread Keith Hinton via Talk
One other thing to add to Dave's advice.
I would avoid strongly upgrading to any operating system, at least
until you know a service pack or similar is released.
In my experience, especially Windows upgrades, the system will not run
as smoothly as it would otherwise run if you bought Windows ten say at
the retail price of like $200 or whatever price Microsoft puts that
copy at.
My suggestion is that it's best to get a system with Windows ten
already on it at some point down the road once AISquared has released
a copy of Window-Eyes that is Windows ten compatible that is not in
public beta form and is an actual current release.
That's just my suggestion, feel free to run through the mine field and
see if you get exploded, but I too, agree here with Dave.
I'd wait around, to see how all this stuff pans out.
And it will take AISquared a while to come out with something that supports it.
At this point and time, Window-Eyes really does not have Windows ten support.
Not any you can rely on.
Thanks.

 Hello,

This is only advice, and none of you are forced to take it.

If Microsoft does meet their Delivery Date of the last part of July,
you have one year to upgrade to Win 10.

I rarely ever jump on the First Edition of any Software, Especially
 Operating Systems.

I waited for Window Eyes 9.1 before I bought the Upgrade.
Why? Because I do not like finding the Software still has bugs, and
 areas that need polish.

When it comes to New editions of Operating Systems, No one knows what
the final edition of Windows 10 is going to be like. Sure, these
Pre-release editions can give some ideas, but Nothing is in Stone,
and so the Final release may be quite different than what was offered
 as the Beta.

right now, most of you have a reliable system, that runs fine with
what ever edition of Windows and Window Eyes you have running.

Since A I Squared does not have a finished production copy of Windows
10 yet, and won't until they get one off the Shelf, or one that
Microsoft sends them, A I Squared can not say with all sertainty that
Window Eyes will give good access to the new Windows 10. How could
 they? think about it.

I know some here may be in a hurry to have the latest. Some times
being on the Cutting Edge is Painful, very Painful. And if you think
your frustraighted now, just wait till you paint yourself into a
corner by downloading the new Windows 10, an hour after it is made
avaialble to the General Public, and now you have a system that does
not work as good as before you installed the new Win 10.

If Win 10 does give problems, it will take some time before they will
be able to offer a solution. that solution might be only a small
adjustment, or some area may need some serious attention. hard to
know, since no one, even Microsoft has yet to finish the Win 10
project, so they do not even know what the final edition that goes to
Press will be. they might have great hopes, but no one will know
until someone at Microsoft says enough, it is good enough, we can fix
the rest of this stuff later in a Service Pack 1, 2, or 3.

I am not TELLING anyone what to do here. This is just un asked for
advice. If you trust that all will be well, and you are willing to
take the risk, go for it. but, for those of you with a little more
sense, I would wait for the guys that Can't wait to run through the
Mine Field first, and if they get through it without getting blown to
bits, then get your own copy of the new Win 10 and Enjoy.

Re: is Windows 10 accessible?

2015-06-02 Thread Keith Hinton via Talk
Hi, I'd like to answer the origional posters question which will help
those of you who don't want that notificiation icon in your system
tray about Windows 10 if you have no interest at all in upgrading.
Also, I would recommend a cchange in your Windows update settings.
Set it to download updates but let you choose when to isntall them.
Otherwise updates like this one will just install no matter what you do.
Plus, this update is annoying, because Microsoft chose to make it an
important update.
But in my opinion, it's not so necessary.
Windows 7 extended support continues until sometime in 2020
anyways, and as for Windows 8 or 8.1 I have no idea when those support
end dates are.
So, let's go ahead and I'll go in to the technical details of what you
need to know.
1.
The update that was installed on either your Windows 7, 8, or 8.1
computers so long as you are running the very latest updates, is
update (KB3035583)
You'll need to go in to Windows update, find the list of installed
updates, look for the update that says (KB3033583) in it's name and
then uninstall it.
In addition, to prevent it from being autoinstalled again, it will
need to be hidden the next time you find it in your update list.
A computer reboot is required after uninstalling the update.
Again, the update to watch out for is (KB3033583)
And as far as I know, from articles I've read regardless of if you
have a 32-bit or 64-bit copy of Windows this is the update that you'll
want to remove and is responsible for installing the Windows 10
notification in to your system tray.
So yes, it is possible to remove the notification icon and not have it
show up again, but I would strongly recommend you change your Windows
update settings to let you choose to install downloaded updates
yourself.
That way you can go through the list and see what you'd like.
I hope this helps.

Is it possible to just upgrade to Windows 10 from a copy of Windows 7

If Window-Eyes needs to be reinstalled, what would I need to do in

Re: Seeking Your Input

2015-05-28 Thread Keith Hinton via Talk
Hi,
It would be nice to see an improvement to the Insert key layout app
that allows it to work properly with auto forms mode interaction on
web pages.
Right now, in order for it to behave properly with keyboard input on
web pages, control slash must be used to turn off auto forms
interaction.
While I certainly am glad to have a choice to use auto forms mode
interaction or not,
That would be nice to see resolved so that auto forms interaction
could be left on with either the default layout or insert key layout
respectively.
Right now, as indicated above, the insert key layout app as far as
keyboard input is concerned does not work properly so long as auto
form focus is enabled while using browse mode, but works correctly if
currently turned off.
Thanks Geremy for your feedback request.
I personally don't know of any other areas in which I use Window-Eyes
that I'd like to see improvement in,beyond the one I have now brought
to your attention.
Thank you for letting me provide my feedback, and I hope this helps
you behind the seens.
If there is some other way I may be of service, feel free to let me know.

Sincerely,

Keith

Re: F8 copying doesn't work

2015-05-23 Thread Keith Hinton via Talk
The F8 copy command has not given me any problems here.
And please note that I am not using Windows XP.
It has spoken everything properly including the respective copy mesages.
Thanks.

 Hi,
This will not be its final home, but here is a brief tutorial I recorded on

 using the F8 method online.

Also note we have done 0 testing with Window-eyes 9.1 under Windows XP as it

 is no longer supported.

I don't know about Don, but it works fine for me as well (but I'm not using
xp). Can you borrow or otherwise use another pc with a later version of
Windows to see if it works ok for you then?

The F8 copy function was very buggie prior to WE 9.1 but since its
release it has worked great for me. The only change I made was to
change the hot key from F8 to shift downarrow.

 Hi all.
I'd like to ask you if somebody is able to use the new strange f8 copying
mechanism in v9.1 release? In the betas it was working, but now 99% times I
try it it says Can't copy to clipboard and this is in IE and Firefox
 using
XP. Could it be because of XP? I think that if I use the latest Firefox it
 should work as expected.
 Thanx.

Window-Eyes 9.1 reading normally with lines Here

2015-05-22 Thread Keith Hinton via Talk
Hi, folks.
I just wanted everybody to know that while I have been monitoring the
list and noticing that some folks have talked about repating lines or
skipping of lines with Window-Eyes, that I personally, have not
experienced that behavior here.
Not even when browsing hte web.
The only problem that I did post about earlier on in another message
thread, that I have happen on all my machines is that the insert key
layout seems to act up for some strange reason, not allowing some keys
through so that key bypass must be used such as in Internet Explorer
and Firefox while trying ott ype i edit boxes.
I did note that one person failed to reproduce this problem in that
other thread.
Isn't software an interesting thing? Especially something as complex
as a screen reader?
It can do one thing or a host of things on one machine or a group of
machines, and yet not do so on another set of machines, etc.
Interesting how that works. :)

Have a great day all.

Keystroke interception issues when running any browser with the insert key layout mode app enabled

2015-05-13 Thread Keith Hinton via Talk
Hello folks.

I wanted to make sure that Doug, Aaron, Steve, Chris, and the rest of
the folks (including everybody else on this list) knows about the bug
I've discovered still not resolved.
The problem happens specifically when you enable the insert key layout
mode and bring up Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer, or basically
anything where browse mode is necessary and you go to enter something
in to any web form edit box control.

Basically, keys at least ont his keyboard, like e, (and possibly
others) seem to be ignored utterly by Window-Eyes while insert key
layout is enabled.

I have to use bypass mode or turn off insert key layout mode entirely
in order for keys to respond as designed while typing in to any web
form. Otherwise like I say, half the keys quit being intercepted
properly by Window-Eyes, requiring either a byypass command so that
the application receives them, or again, to turn off the insert key
layout mode.

I'd like to be able to use the insert key layout app and not have this
problem occur.

This problem still appears to be present in Window-Eyes latest stable release.

Let's see.

I'v d th ist yot mod. ow ots o kys r ot ig itptd popy.
What I just basically tried to type thre should have come out as:
Let's see.
I've enabled insert key layout mode.
Now half the keys on my keyboard are no longer working properly, or
something to that effect.

Why don't you try running the browsers on your machines at AISquaired
and seeing what happens.

Maybe you can release an update that resolves this problem.

Note, that this behavior wont' happen if I use notepad, and as far as
I know any other application (though you may wish to be sure of this
by doing some tests with insert key layout turned on)

Double check to see if keys are being seen by the browsers.

Judging by my screweed up message where I litterally tried to pres
keys like a, e, etc, half the keys were not being passed through the
moment insert key layout was turned on.

but when turnd off, the keyboard keys were all seeen as if there were
no problems.

So I do not know of anything else I can tel you to even solve the problem.

This problem has existed undetected and apparently not noticed by
anybody for a very long time actually going back to probably when the
layout was first added.

I used ot have issues occasionally with say insert F7 rather than
trigggering the browse mdoe list of links etc, occasioanlly say things
like no user window or something crazy like that.

I don't know if that bug still exists, but you may want to test under
prolonged browse mode useage.

I hope this helps you effectively at least if nothing else, conduct some tests.

I would appreciate you folks getting hold of me even off list if you need to.

If you need me to produce audio recordings of this behavior, I can do
so as well, but I think you trying to reproduce this on your end with
insert key layout mode enabled first is a good idea.

Thanks, Doug, aaron, and all ther est who may be abel to figure out
why this interception bug most surely still exists specific apparently
to when typing in edit boxes inside any of the web browsers
Window-Eyes supports as long as insert key layout is enabled.

I tested to see if keyboard interception is effected in Microsoft
Outlook and Notepad.

This was not the case.

I do not know about WordPad or Word respectively, but I doubt it.

Though a test there wouldn't hurt either.

Just try typing with insert key layout in to any web form you want to
see if any keys suddenly stop being past through to the application.

Hope this helps somebody solve this problem.

In case it helps, I'm testing with both Internet Explorrer and Mozilla
firefox. Windows 8.1 64 Professional, and latest Window-Eyes, and
office 2010 installed here.

But I also recall this bug happening to me in Windows 7 with the
insert key layout app as well, so I do not think it will matter what
OS you test under.

Sincerely,

Keith
