RE: stability versus new browse mode
Hi, Well I find making auto hot key scripts for starting programs much more reliable than using the windows short cut key system. Another advantage is you can use key combos that are not supported by the typical windows short cut key system. For example: I have Window-Eyes starting with the short cut of windows+alt+w. Another advantage is I can take this short cut key script and run it on any computer and the short cut key script will work. Hi, If you are running 9.0 or later Window-eyes should restart when pressing alt-control-w. If you are running Window-eyes 8.4 or earlier the alt-control-w method will not work unless Window-eyes is closed first. In my experience, though, if you don't hear the descending harp sound, the Ctrl-Alt-W wont work, either. Because you don't have to shut down window-eyes to restart with the startup command what ever you define it as. You can also just use the run dialog and type wineyes.exe and press enter. Re: stability versus new browse mode
When I bought 9.1, I asked for the 9.1 on CD, but was told I had to download it, and install the update over my 9.0. There was no CD for 9.1 at the time. Since 9.1 had just about all of the bugs I had found in the 9.X Beta versions, I decided to not buy 9.2 unless it showed some fixes. So far users of 9.2 seem to still have the same issues as 9.1 and 9.0. I have checked to see that all Set files are up to date. I have done everything A I Tech Support has asked, as well as the suggestions given here in this list. So far, the only improvement I have seen was after installing html 5 support into I.E. 11, and to start using the "Insert Tab" command to put titles and links into a list. Doing this has cut my crashes at least by half, if not more. However, I still get too many incidents where WE 9.1 goes silent when using Becky, MS Word 2010, and Gold Wave. Still have serious problem when on the Ebay Web site. Speech is very fragile, and WE becomes very sluggish. And I need to move around very slowly on the Web site. No rapid tapping of the up and down arrow keys.Slow Slow Sloiw is the word, at least for me, when on Ebay. -- Dave___ Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared. Butch, My experience has been the opposite of yours. I was finding that the new dynamic web pages were becoming more difficult if not impossible to read until the new brows mode was released. It is true that there is a minor stability issue with the new brows mode, but I know this issue is being addressed. Remember, you can always hit alt control W to restart speech if it stops. The new brows mode makes possible the reading of constantly changing web content. Thank yew to the Window Eyes development team! some times you have to do a clean install not a upgrade. also some of the set files were out of date. includeing firefox and i e. w e 9.2 is the latest version and it did have some bug fixes over w e 9.1. the only problems i have had so far is with firefox. w e and firefox will hang when i open the bookmark list in this case control alt w will not close w e until the two unhang. if i turn off autoload before i open the bookmark list it works fine . without hanging. *** i use a batch file to shut down w e with a command line. this is independent of the w e hot keys to reload. the /k command will kill w e. Bob, Butch said that the infamous ALT CTRL W command to restart a silent WE, does not work, and that he had to do a Cold Boot of his system to regain Speech. I too find I need to do a Cold Boot about half the time. There are enough people who are having issues that it should not be ignored, in hopes that those of us with these random failures will just go away. If you've been paying attention to most of the messages, concerning this instability issue, you'll notice that the hot key, control-alt-W, in many cases does not work to bring speech back again. It almost never works for me, and a hard reboot must be done to bring WE back. I've said it before, and will say it again, WE-9, is the crashiest version of WE ever! It kept freezing up while I was on the web doing the same tasks as I had done while running wineyes 7.5. Pressing control, alt, W did nothing. I had to do a cold boot everytime. After using 9.1 for a couple of weeks, I had to uninstall it and go back to an earlier version. This time I installed 8.4, and it works as well as when I was running wineyes 7.5. So, to get the benefits of the new browse mode, I would have to sacrifice stability. For me, wineyes 9 was a waste of money. I can't even use it. I mean what good is a silent screen reader. I have been using wineyes since the 1990's, and I have never been this disappointed. The new browse mode is so dysfunctional that it should be in beta. Re: stability versus new browse mode
Hi there GROUP! I also am having a much higher degree of success with 9.1. I am going to upgrade to Win10 and we9.2 soon. I really am much happier with 9.1 than I ever was with 8.4. I more or less gave up on IE and even FireFox while using 8.4. I do still have the old 8.4 CD although I suspect that when I upgrade to W.E. 9.2 I will probably file it away and forget about it. Just thought I would put my two sense worth in whatever that may be worth these day! . THANKS AND HAVE A GREAT DAY! De . I too find I need to do a Cold Boot about half the time. There are enough people who are having issues that it should not be ignored, in hopes that those of us with these random failures will just go away. Glad you are having success with WE 9.X, at least someone is. ___ Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared.
