The best way to do that nowadays is to by an external sound card, and
get NVDA or whatever screenreader you might be using to go through that
one instead of your main one. The old synthesizers just aren't being
used much these days. Luckily, external sound cards aren't too
expensive. Just make sure you have a set of speakerrs for the external
card or you won't be hearing anything.

Dave,

Often VFO runs extreme discounts around the consumer conventions in July. I
received my home edition of JAWS 16 for $75 in 2015, and the same thing was
offered last summer. I was able to upgrade it for $250 to the professional
version that could run on a corporate computer. If you are interested, I
would watch for promotions around the conventions next summer and perhaps
even around CSUN. There is no guarantee, of course, and you are right to be
concerned about the price.

Hi Olusegun,

I see, and yet the only way a digital assistant could really do the work I need

I can using a keyboard on a web page.
I say, let them go and see if they can do it, and I'll abandon my screen reader

All the best, up here in chilly Toronto, Canada, hanging on to Window-Eyes with

I hear that in the new incarnation of Windows10 due to be released soon,
Narrator will support Braille in some shape or form. Hmm, if it holds well,
Jaws and Window-Eyes may soon R I P for real. I opine that Android and iOS
will soon render the need for Windows screen readers irrelevant in a few

Dear Joseph,

thank you for your thoughtful and perceptive comments. Those of us who
are being kept in the dark have a right to feel frustrated and, maybe
angry, but we are just going to have to wait and see. I would suggest
that, for the sake of our mental health, we try to calm down until such

Hey I certainly understand SMAA concerns, and upgrade issues, but the
ones who deserve sympathy are the ones who are not on this list yet, the
ones who may want to purchase WE for the first time, and are unsure
whether they can. We're lucky, we can use WE probably for a while.
It's not as if discontinuing WE will prevent my copy from working.

many great plugins. also free.

Everyone forgets this. When you get it the voice is absolutely
