RE: losing speech--last Monday of month--early morning
I am running the insider preview build 10547 of Windows 10 and Window-Eyes 9.2. If I open the Action Center and then press Windows-M, focus does move to the list of shortcuts on the Desktop. But, if I arrow around, the focused shortcut's name is not announced only the shortcut's tooltip when it is displayed. If I use Windows-D instead, everything works as expected. So, Rod, I would recommend trying Windows-D instead of Windows-M to see if that helps. I will try to duplicate this issue, and if I can, will work on logging an official bug report. Admittedly, since switching to Microsoft Security Essentials on my Windows 7 64 bit system and now Windows Defender on my Windows 10 64 bit system, I haven't seen any lockups of speech, at least not out of the blue without my touching my keyboard. One thing I have noticed on my Windows 10 system is when I am in the Action center portion of the notification area and I press Windows-M to attempt to go to my desktop icons, it is common for WE to lockup, requiring me to press Control-Alt-W to reload, and this can take a good few seconds before WE comes back. To avoid this problem, I now tab out of the Action Center to go to the icons. Also, I did notice the other day that when my wireless keyboard loss battery power, WE locked up and this was simply due to my trying to press keys. When I put the new batteries into the keyboard and press Control-Alt-W, WE came back, but isn't it interesting that this would cause a speech lockup? These are not a WindowEyes problem but if your machine loses speech or locks up whenever this happens due to some third party operation that, in my old fat blind guy opinion, is a WindowEyes problem. I have no doubt that it is a Windows Explorer issue. With Windows 10, it doesn't seem to happen as much. Sleep mode is turned off along with any other settings which might cause the machine to be unable to respond as soon as I touch the keyboard. Probably none of this will be of any help in identifying the problem but speech loss seems to be getting more and more frequent. I am using Win7 64 home premium with WE 9.2. Re: Losing speech
i built mine myself. with a gigabyte i 5 quad core with 8gb of memory, useing the on board audio and the video is the c p u itself. i always lose speech when i open the bookmark list in firefox 38 esr? i have to turn off autoload and browse mode first then it will still talk. if i do not close the bookmark list after this w e will aventually lose speech and i have to wait for about 1 minute to see if speech will return and then close the bookmark list to keep w e going. i have lost speech with wlm 2012 if i have either firefox or i e 11 windows 7 64bit and i alt tab from the browser back to wlm. the only way i can regain focus is to use restore from the ribbon then maximize the screen again. then speech will return. i don't lose speech with firefox if i use narrator or nvda. -Original Message- From: Chris Grabowski via Talk Sent: Thursday, October 01, 2015 9:13 AM To: Lynn White ; Window-Eyes Discussion List ; Mike Subject: RE: Losing speech What type of computers are being used, Dell, HP, etc? RE: Losing speech
Hi Chris; I have a Dell Optiplex 8 gig ram i7 intel processor. I lose speech a few times a day and especially if I am switching between applications too fast and try to navigate before I hear WindowEyes responding. That said, sometimes it just goes dead. I just turned off sleep mode since that can cause anything saved in ram memory to get lost when the machine wakes up and if WE has anything stored in ram, very likely, that may be the source of one set of problems. Thats all I have on this particular problem. Re: Losing speech
I just had an instance where I lost speech and IE 11 stopped when I was on the Chase.com web site, making an online payment.I had to log off and when I started up IE again, it said that my last session had unexpectedly stopped and did I want to start it again. I got no WE error. So, I think in this instance it was an IE 11 problem or a chase site problem. - Original Message - From: "Lynn White via Talk" <talk@lists.window-eyes.com> To: "Mike" <kazej...@runbox.com>; "Window-Eyes Discussion List" <talk@lists.window-eyes.com> Sent: Thursday, October 01, 2015 10:54 AM Subject: Re: Losing speech I have no doubt that it is a Windows Explorer issue. RE: losing speech--last Monday of month--early morning
Hi Gayle, Control-Alt-W won't reload WE 8.4, since that hot key will only relaunch WE in versions later than 8.4. With WE 8.4, you must use Control-Insert-F4, which then pops up a prompt with the default button of Ok, requiring you to then press Enter to close WE. At that point, Control-Alt-W will reload WE. With Windows 10, it doesn't seem to happen as much. On 10/1/2015 8:27 AM, Mike via Talk wrote: Hello Everyone recently, I had an RNIB tech volunteer at my home. He kept commenting that Windows Explorer was stopping. This seemed to coincide with speech loss. He mentioned this four or five times in half an hour and was extremely surprised to see it happening so frequently. I have also lost speech with Ie 11 and very recently, I have returned to the computer to find that speech is no longer working even though I haven't used the computer for a couple of hours. RE: Losing speech in IE11
Hi: This just happened to me as well. I ReStarted WindowEyes and was able to exit IE 11 and continue working in another program. In that program some of the WindowEyes operations like tabbing and arrow keys worked ok. The ReadToEnd did not work at all. I then attempted to go into Outlook and open one of Rods messages. It said "Plain Text" then the arrow keys and tab keys just said bing bing. I tried to route the mouse but WE saidcouldnt route mouse to window and trying a second time we couldn't route mouse to tool tip. I fired up narrator again and it only read some http link address when I tried to tab around the e-mail content. I then exited Outlook and ReBooted the computer. WindowEyes then came up as usual and ReReading Rods message it was not plain text but had links in it as 99 percent of e-mails do. This tells me there is a problem with WindowEyes and whatever scripts or logic they use when, at least, attempting to determine whether to use the browser style or plain text style of reading e-mails after WindowEyes goes down once and that ReInitializing WindowEyes does not restore these scripts or logic blocks - WindowEyes really does not do a cold Restart but only some partial Restart or ignores features it thinks are already working even if they have died. I have just made repeated attempts to read a couple of pages on Sainsburys.co.uk mobile Site but speech has stopped every time. Well, in exasperation, I decided to try Google Chrome. I managed to read both of the pages with out any loss of speech and everything seemed much more responsive. Google Chrome may not be for everyone but, so far at least, it hasn't frozen or lost speech. I shall be using it a lot more in the future because I have better things to do with my time than keep rebooting because of speech stopping over and over again.
