I know I should direct these questions to the Microsoft Disabilities

here. Are there plans for a Window 10 update soon? And how long will
the Windows 10 be free for the visually impaired. I am hoping to get
comfortable with Windows 10 before I migrate to Jaws (I know the free
offer is in affect until the end of July).

Hello. I thought I was upgrading to windows 10 cause I did see in the
update list the upgrade to windows 10 home since I do have windows7 home
premium, so I did check the box and all of the updates seemed to be
installing, then after that was all done the computer did restart then
the same thing happened all over again where I had to check the box to
upgrade and I did accept the agreement, thought the screen would come up
to choose what to keep and stuff like that what I heard on the tutorial.
After that was all done it did restart so I did hear the windows 7 sound
along with window eyes. Then after that was all done decided to shut all
of that down for now. Has anyone experienced this? What should I do?
Should I just download the media Creation tool to get the process complete?

Hi,
Did the upgrade with no problem. I removed all screen readers before
upgrading backing up all my settings. The only screen reader I did not
remove was nvda. Did the upgrade using nvda for the first part and narrator
for the second. No problems. You will get the build update threw windows
update. There is no need to do anything. It will automatically update when
it becomes available. Just like all important updates to windows.

backup first. i had many problems with the in place upgrade and did a clean
install the second time. i would also wait until next month when the service
pack comes out. it might be included with the full windows 10 download. i
don't know about this. but it would be easier then haveing to install twice.

2015-09-26 Thread Sue J Ward via Talk
That is excellent. So when do you use narrator? On the computer that I
will be upgrading is a Dell kind of hard to tell when it restarts cause
it does not have a fan where it starts up it sounds fast, but when
everything loads up it balances itself out which is my HP machine. The
computer that I am on right now is an HP with windows 7 on it, my second
one is a Dell, which also has windows7 I mainly use that as an
entertainment machine where I have a few games and a few music tracks. I
still do have a lot of my stuff on cds and tapes.Sometime when I do get
around to it am going to convert some of the stuff over to the PC which
I know that will take sometime.

tutorials have been excellent. Was wondering how many of you had success in
upgrading? I do have window eyes 9.2 on that machine along with that a CD
copy should be easy. Or should I wait til Christmas time?

you would have to use narrator if you do a clean install when it gets to the
end of the setup where you create your account. once it gets to the desktop you
can install w e at this point.

still do have a lot of my stuff on cds and tapes.Sometime when I do get
around to it am going to convert some of the stuff over to the PC which
I know that will take sometime.

you may not have too.
i have been able to use my vista drivers with win7. you might still be able too
or maybe some drivers are included with win 10.
even now win10 found new drivers for my current del mono laser printer i habve
now and new drivers for the old inkjet i don't even have now. i guess win10
scanned my installed drivers when it was installed.
i found the old drivers and uninstalled them after win10 was installed. i got
these drivers as a windows system update in the windows optional updates list

I have not upgraded my main computer that has Win 7,to Win 10. But I have
upgraded another computer that I don't rely on. I will need to purchase an
new printer and scanner if I upgraded my main computer to Win 10. Windows 10
is an improvement to Win 8.1. Win 10 is much like Win 7 with a few addtional
feature added and a few features removed.

Kim Kamando wrote an article saying Microsoft will be using part of your
band with with Win 10 to upgrade other computers. There is a way to turn
this off, but it is on by default.

Hi:
I guess that if you want to get rid of it, you could go get it and
then refuse the license agreement. It will not install unless you
accept the license agreement, so if you just say no to the license

Hello. I was wondering how do I get this get windows ten off the
system tray, it is driving me crazy, I don't see anything that says no
thanks or something like that. I am not sure reserving a copy is in my
plans. Hopefully when it does come out there will be stuff on the main

There seems to be a lot of misinformation floating around about upgrading to
windows 10. If you choose to reserve your copy you have a choice to install
or not, it will not force you to take the upgrade. Also, according to a tech
magazine article I read, you can also choose to make a ISO copy and install
as a clean install.

You have to ask, What is in a Free Upgrade for Microsoft?

More Access, not for the Visually Impaired, but for Big Brother, and
perhaps some Smaller Brothers?

Even Office might be Free? What's with that?

I think it has more to do with Microsoft no longer being the flavor of the

Call me Suspicious, but does anyone else wonder why Windows 10 is a
Free Upgrade?

You have to ask, What is in a Free Upgrade for Microsoft?

More Access, not for the Visually Impaired, but for Big Brother, and
perhaps some Smaller Brothers?

Even Office might be Free? What's with that?

You know what they say about when things look too good to be true,
there is usually a Catch of some kind.

that may not really be true. there have been several times i hid updates.
but they were unhidden the next month with the next critical updates. i e
8 and 10 were two such updates. i had to uninstall them and then go into
windows update and re hide them again.
i did this until wineyes could catch up with the new browsers before i
allowed i e to update.

Hi:
I guess that if you want to get rid of it, you could go get it and
then refuse the license agreement. It will not install unless you
accept the license agreement, so if you just say no to the license
agreement, it might go away.

Hello,

This is only advice, and none of you are forced to take it.

If Microsoft does meet their Delivery Date of the last part of July, you
have one year to upgrade to Win 10.

I rarely ever jump on the First Edition of any Software, Especially
Operating Systems.

I waited for Window Eyes 9.1 before I bought the Upgrade.
Why? Because I do not like finding the Software still has bugs, and areas
that need polish.

When it comes to New editions of Operating Systems, No one knows what the
final edition of Windows 10 is going to be like. Sure, these Pre-release
editions can give some ideas, but Nothing is in Stone, and so the Final
release may be quite different than what was offered as the Beta.

right now, most of you have a reliable system, that runs fine with what ever
edition of Windows and Window Eyes you have running.

Since A I Squared does not have a finished production copy of Windows
10 yet, and won't until they get one off the Shelf, or one that Microsoft
sends them, A I Squared can not say with all sertainty that
Window Eyes will give good access to the new Windows 10. How could
they? think about it.

I know some here may be in a hurry to have the latest. Some times being on
the Cutting Edge is Painful, very Painful. And if you think your
frustraighted now, just wait till you paint yourself into a corner by
downloading the new Windows 10, an hour after it is made avaialble to the
General Public, and now you have a system that does not work as good as
before you installed the new Win 10.

If Win 10 does give problems, it will take some time before they will be
able to offer a solution. that solution might be only a small adjustment,
or some area may need some serious attention. hard to know, since no one,
even Microsoft has yet to finish the Win 10 project, so they do not even
know what the final edition that goes to Press will be. they might have
great hopes, but no one will know until someone at Microsoft says enough, it
is good enough, we can fix the rest of this stuff later in a Service Pack 1,
2, or 3.

I am not TELLING anyone what to do here. This is just un asked for advice.
If you trust that all will be well, and you are willing to
take the risk, go for it. but, for those of you with a little more
sense, I would wait for the guys that Can't wait to run through the Mine
Field first, and if they get through it without getting blown to bits, then
get your own copy of the new Win 10 and Enjoy.

Re: upgrading to windows 10

2015-06-03 Thread Keith Hinton via Talk
One other thing to add to Dave's advice.
I would avoid strongly upgrading to any operating system, at least
until you know a service pack or similar is released.
In my experience, especially Windows upgrades, the system will not run
as smoothly as it would otherwise run if you bought Windows ten say at
the retail price of like $200 or whatever price Microsoft puts that
copy at.
My suggestion is that it's best to get a system with Windows ten
already on it at some point down the road once AISquared has released
a copy of Window-Eyes that is Windows ten compatible that is not in
public beta form and is an actual current release.
That's just my suggestion, feel free to run through the mine field and
see if you get exploded, but I too, agree here with Dave.
I'd wait around, to see how all this stuff pans out.
And it will take AISquared a while to come out with something that supports it.
At this point and time, Window-Eyes really does not have Windows ten support.
Not any you can rely on.
Thanks.

 as the Beta.

right now, most of you have a reliable system, that runs fine with
what ever edition of Windows and Window Eyes you have running.

Since A I Squared does not have a finished production copy of Windows
10 yet, and won't until they get one off the Shelf, or one that
Microsoft sends them, A I Squared can not say with all sertainty that
Window Eyes will give good access to the new Windows 10. How could
 they? think about it.

I know some here may be in a hurry to have the latest. Some times
being on the Cutting Edge is Painful, very Painful. And if you think
your frustraighted now, just wait till you paint yourself into a
corner by downloading the new Windows 10, an hour after it is made
avaialble to the General Public, and now you have a system that does
not work as good as before you installed the new Win 10.

If Win 10 does give problems, it will take some time before they will
be able to offer a solution. that solution might be only a small
adjustment, or some area may need some serious attention. hard to
know, since no one, even Microsoft has yet to finish the Win 10
project, so they do not even know what the final edition that goes to
Press will be. they might have great hopes, but no one will know
until someone at Microsoft says enough, it is good enough, we can fix
the rest of this stuff later in a Service Pack 1, 2, or 3.

I am not TELLING anyone what to do here. This is just un asked for
advice. If you trust that all will be well, and you are willing to
take the risk, go for it. but, for those of you with a little more
sense, I would wait for the guys that Can't wait to run through the
Mine Field first, and if they get through it without getting blown to
bits, then get your own copy of the new Win 10 and Enjoy.

You can reserve your copy and it is part of the Windows update but you do
have the choice of when and if you want to install. You can read the FAQs

Never buy or download 1.0 of anything. I figure I'll wait a few
months, either to see what bugs crop up, or wait until a Service
Pack's released. Usually, if there are serious bugs, there's often
a Service Pack that comes out pretty quickly.

Just my thoughts. Besides, Window-Eyes doesn't have the proper
display driver to go with Windows 10, at least that's what the

Re: upgrading to windows 10

Can't we give this a break? It's been beaten to death a hundred times
over now. And the to do or not to do arguments are getting old real fast.

Thanks,
Tom

with WE? I see it in my sys tray, too. .oh what to do, what to do, what
to

do. Should I uninstall my programs or back them up?
Thanks

RE: upgrading to windows 10

2015-06-02 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi,

I agree. There is no way I'll threaten my ability to do everything I can do
now on my PC just because a free upgrade is available.
To be honest, I don't think it's a good idea to upgrade an operating system
when one is still using older hardware.
I tend to learn the ins and outs of a new operating system when I buy a new
PC, and this is simply because I have no alternative.
It's worked for me so far, and so why change this policy.
As Mr. Spock from the original Star Trek series said: Change is the
essential process of all existence, and I cite him only to emphasize the
fact that we will always be called to adapt to change, and so why seek
change when it will find you. smile

With respect,

Rod

Re: upgrading to windows 10

2015-06-02 Thread Loy via Talk
I am trying the Windows 10 Preview on a computer that I use just for playing
around with new OS's.. With WE is works fairly well, but it is far from being
an OS I want to use as my work computer. NVDA actually works better right
now. WE and Win 10 will have to improve a lot before I will consider
upgrading my Win 7 computer.
