[talk-ph] Fix common routing errors in Metro Manila
Dear everyone, We created a tasking job for fixing common routing errors in Metro Manila. This is part of the arm-char mapping I shared last month [0]. Routing problems are based on Geofabrik OSM Inspector layer [1]. The task job is available here: http://osmtm.pgrouting.org/job/7 Needless to say there are very few errors for Metro Manila and some are false positives. ;) The process for using the tasking is simple: 1. Open JOSM. 2. Go to: http://osmtm.pgrouting.org/job/7 3. Get a new task. 4. Open Task in JOSM 5. Click on Imagery URL 6. Start fixing! Thanks!
Re: [Talk-in] Police investigating Google's mapathon
I did read about an opposition party MP raising concerns about this, but was not aware of what is happening. The whole citizen mapping treading on SOI's territory has been a concern at the back of my mind and I'm curious to know what comes out of this. I find three interesting perspectives to the issue: *Authenticity* If you are crowdsourcing map making, how do you guarantee it is accurate? You can't! Imagine the military or any security establishment using a crowdsourced map for the basis of its operation, it would be silly without doing an independent ground survey to authenticate the data. Google maps or even OSM are never going to be authentic maps endorsed by an official source. At the end, SOI, Google Maps and Openstreetmap are all going to have different maps, so which one do you trust? The one from the government funded by tax money, or the one from a bunch of unpaid citizens who can do whatever they want? *Security* The main concern is obviously maps being used as a resource by an enemy to compromise a target. If one were an enemy of the state, which maps would you use for your evil mission? SOI: They hide military areas, but they also have accurate information on a lot of other areas including topography and the data is verified by the Government. Google and OSM: Maps created using citizen volunteers who can only collect what is already publicly available. There is limited moderation and verifying of data. This raises questions about accountability and accuracy of the dataset and there is nobody who can guarantee it. Would one use a crowdsourced map or an official map for a critical operation? *Monopoly* Planning of most human activities requires some sort of geographic information and in India, with so many people, it's going to be extremely valuable information. History has shown us that those with better maps stays in control http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Trigonometric_Survey, and we are having this dogfight of who control's the better map - the government or the people? ; I find the whole Citizen Mapping vs Security argument laughable. If the security establishment is compromised because of information that can be gathered from the public domain from unverified sources, where exactly is the security compromise? It looks like the State has just been caught sleeping with it's old cash cow while the world has moved on. [Talk-it] routing su percorsi pedonali
--- krispyduck: Hi Davide I do not speak Italian but I understand your message (thank you Google). The reason I drew pedestrian roads on top of a pedestrian area is to allow routing applications (like Osmand) to work. These will not route through an area and so avoid the piazza altogether which makes no sense. By putting a pedestrian road on top of the the area the roads are usually rendered in the same colour and so appear invisible but the routing software can use the ways to correctly route a pedestrian through the area. However, If you don't like it I am happy that you delete the ways --- krispyduck: Hello again. Out of interest I decided to check how this routing problem was solved in similar areas. If you look at Piazza Santo Marco in Venzia somebody has used the same technique to allow routing through the piazza. I think this is a good and unobtrusive way to allow 'foot' routing through an area. It also allows the ways to be connected to nearby roads at a place with a pedestrian crossing. But, like most things on OSM, there is never just one way to do things :) 1) esistono software di routing che utilizzano correttamente le aree (siano queste pedonali o altro ?) 2) al di la che esistano o meno, non s'era detto: il software deve adattarsi sui dati e non il contrario? Quella coppia di tag e' stata introdotta apposta per i vialetti posteriori all'americana o all'inglese. Perche' assecondare gli errori? ciao maxx ___ Talk-it mailing list Talk-it@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-it
Re: [Talk-it] Valore highway per vie piccolo paese
___ Talk-it mailing list Talk-it@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-it

Re: [Talk-it] routing su percorsi pedonali

Mega-flot. Tak for dine svar.
-- View this message in context: http://gis.19327.n5.nabble.com/experimentations-a-Orange-tp5755270p5755819.html Sent from the France mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Talk-fr mailing list Talk-fr@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-fr
