[OSM-talk-be] Get together in Lier/Bijeenkomst in Lier
Most people have time on the 9th of February. So let's get together from 10-17h. De meeste mensen kunnen op zaterdag 9 februari. We kunnen dan samenkomen van 10-17u. @Joren, could you contact a pub on Zimmerplein? I expect 10-15 people, so a separate room would be nice. mvg, Jo 2012/12/13 Jo winfi...@gmail.com Hi, I'd like to organise a get together in Lier. Not exactly a mapping party, but rather a meetup to discuss how we map. Hints and tips to become more efficient and productive and of course to get to know one another and build community. What I'd like to put on the agenda: mapcss to visualise what is of interest to the mapper (PT, node network routes, maxspeed,...) public transport bicycle and walking routes Overpass API Android apps like Vespucci and OsmAND Maybe iPad apps like iLOe, but I don't have experience with those In case it's to hard to meet in person, we could also try a virtual meeting. Would people be interested in that? It could be over Skype, but sharing the desktop with a group needs a premium account, which I don't have. Or a Google hangout. I don't have actual experience with that, but it shouldn't be hard to set up. We could do that on an evening, even once or twice a month. I'll also be at FOSDEM 2nd and 3rd of February to discuss and elaborate on those topics. As far as Lier goes, does anyone know of a calm venue with free WIFI over there? I was thinking of a Saturday in January from 10-17/18h. Leuven would, of course, be more practical for me, but I'm proposing Lier because we have at least two relatively new contributors near Mechelen and somewhere beyond Geel/Kasterlee/Turnhout, but Lier or Herentals are feasible for him. [OSM-legal-talk] Using CC-BY as a source for Openstreetmap
Hi, I looked at wiki.openstreetmap.org and couldn't find a straight answer as to wheter CC-BY data sets can be used as a source for Openstreetmap. The South Australian State government Department of Transport, Planning and Infrastructure has started a small but potentially useful data portal at http://dpti.sa.gov.au/data_download_portal/ The data is licensed Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Australia Licence, http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/au/deed.en I'm proposing to use the Suburb boundaries as a basis for mapping and the Gazeteer for checking existing placenames. My understanding is that if attribution is made somewhere in wiki.openstreetmap.org then the data can be used. Or is there more than that? It's a bit more complicated than that. Use of CC BY data comes down to what is considered attribution reasonable to the medium or means. OSM provides attribution via a wiki page, http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Contributors. No other attribution can be guaranteed. A data provider could consider this inadequate and insist on some more obvious means of attribution (e.g. showing a dynamic attribution in the lower-right like Bing imagery, Mapquest.com, Google imagery, etc). Some of the legwork of confirming this for Australia has been completed already. CC BY data on data.gov.au is okay, they have explicitly said that the CC BY geodata sets can be published under ODbL provided that the attribution is made on the wiki page and the datasets used are listed in the form they want. (http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Attribution/data.gov.au_explicit_permiss ion) If you asked the SA DOT the same question and said that data.gov.au views it as acceptable I expect you'd get a yes. ___ legal-talk mailing list legal-talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/legal-talk

We couldn’t find that page. Took a quick look at the store homepage and clicked through to the Boston typographic map (they're all the same AFAICT). All printed maps don't appear to state origin of data used as a basis for map layouts. As such, although they're not simple reprints of tiles (for e.g.) the licence is still being breached. From the OSM FAQ page, some interesting and likely relevant sections (http://www.osmfoundation.org/wiki/License#What_do_you_mean_by_.22Attribution.22.3F): How should I attribute you? Our requested attribution is © OpenStreetMap contributors. You must make it clear that the data is available under the Open Database Licence. This can be achieved by providing a License or Terms link which links to www.openstreetmap.org/copyright or www.opendatacommons.org/licenses/odbl. We ask that you hyperlink the attribution to www.openstreetmap.org where possible. Because OpenStreetMap is its contributors, you may omit the word contributors if space is limited. You may optionally qualify the credit to explain what OSM content you are using. For example, if you have rendered OSM data to your own design, you may wish to use Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors. (If you are using map tiles supplied by us, you must also make it clear that the tiles are available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.0 licence. This may also be fulfilled by linking to www.openstreetmap.org/copyright.) ... For a printed map, the credit should appear beside the map if that is where other such credits appear, and/or in the acknowledgements section of the publication (often at the start of a book or magazine). ... In brief summary: If you correct or extend our data, you need to share your new data. If you make a map from our data, you may publish the map itself under any license you like, including commercial. You DO however, have to share the underlying data except that ... You may also add separate and distinct layers to your map made from other sources of data. This data does not have to be shared, provided there is no interaction with the OpenStreetMap derived layer. For example, you cannot have a layer of restaurant icons that only appear if the same restaurant is not in OpenStreetMap! In more detail: ... If you make a map from OpenStreetMap geodata and publish it, you may publish the map under any license you like. In ODbL parlance, this is known as a Produced Work. However, if you have added to or enhanced our data in order to make the map, you must make those additions publicly available without charge. Also, anyone can extract the original data from the map, (such as latitude and longitudes, names of streets and places), without paying you or asking your permission. You can however, put separate and distinct data layers on top of your map, such as icons showing specialists points of interest, routes, track logs, shaded areas, contours and the like, then Share-Alike does not apply to these elements as long as they do not interact with the map underneath. [quotes end] The last section is the most eyebrow raising section for me. IANAL but my interpretation of the OSM licence (based upon experience of interpretation of licenses in my day job) means axismaps doesn't have a leg to stand on if OSM is their sole source of cartographic and topographical data. Technically I believe they are in a corner -- however I propose a more gracious and mutually beneficical arrangement: someone appropriate from OSM contacts them, explains the situation and propose some form of remediation: a nonexclusive licence to distribute already-printed maps without on-page attribution; for all new print runs, the appropriate line(s) of attributive text, agreed by both parties; and a donation to OSM for every map sold, payable quarterly/six monthly/annually. An initial upfront donation wouldn't go amiss. That they're based in the UK should make this easier to pursue. ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk

Re: [OSM-talk-nl] Wegaanpassingen via www.staatscourant.nl
[Talk-it] dove li metto i nodi dei civici?
-- - Gianmario ___ Talk-it mailing list Talk-it@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-it

Did anything come of this? Re: [Talk-ca] Fredericton WMS Offset
Hi, I am not from the area, but I did want to post my 2 cents about this issue. Your idea of how the offset got started sounds correct. I would caution you though that GPS traces can be offset, too, due to atmospheric effects. To really get a good trace with no offset you need to do a few traces on different days of the same road (or path is better since it is narrow) and through an area with few buildings around as these can cause offsets, too.
-- Christian Quest - OpenStreetMap France - http://openstreetmap.fr/u/cquest ___ Talk-fr mailing list Talk-fr@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-fr ___ Talk-fr mailing list Talk-fr@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-fr
___ Talk-fr mailing list Talk-fr@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-fr
