Trial of Current IMAP
Hi all, Ok. I saw the last beta announcement and see that a lot of fixing was done. The general thing I've initially encountered is having to redo some of my folders message list view mode settings and readjust a couple of the view modes. The readjustments seem to remain set so that's fine. For IMAP, things were glitchy at first. It was initially not off to a good start when I selected my TBBETA folder and attempted loading a message. Nothing happened and this was in my IMAP log: IMAP - 1: Cannot select the mailbox TBBETA. Server reports: SELECT completed I don't know what that means. I killed the IMAP connection and tried again. Same result. I exited and restarted. For a few moments I couldn't seem to get any folder doing anything. I disconnected and reconnected. Nothing. Waited and then it started updating folders, something it usually does at startup. The usual cocophony of sounds started since I haven't used TB! for a while. You see, I filter most mail on the server and when 'new mail' is detected in these folders, a sound is made for each of them. This is even if the sound is the same and if the messages were already read using another client. This behaviour needs tidying up. TB! seems to be behaving OK for the last many minutes and I've browsed around etc. The I/O Read/Writing seems decent and things are snappy. My main problem is with connection stability, so I can't comment on this without using TB! for a prolonged time. I'll use it at home for a while. One problem that stands out is that for messages that haven't been retrieved, there's no indication of whether or not messages are multipart. So messages with attachments aren't flagged as such in the message list unless you retrieve the message. I don't have any of my folders set to synchronise. Their counts are just updated. Upon selecting each message, the message body is retrieved. I wish there were a way to prevent message count updating for some folders, even though you're subscribed to them. The reason for this is that browsing unread messages becomes easier. I can just move from new message to new message without ending up in my junk and other folders I wish not to browse except only occasionally. If these folders are updated, they'll not have new messages unless I select them, at which point their numbers are updated. The work around is to work with the alert that asks if you wish to proceed to the next folder. Not a good one if you do wish to do so 98% of the time. -- -= Allie Martin =- The Bat! v3.0.9.18 Return System Specs: http://www.landscreek.net/sysspecs.htm -=-=- Real men write self-modifying code. Any confirmations? And will it be fixed? If you mean alignment of numbers in the Unread and Total columns they are left aligned here on both versions. It is the width of the Name column what changes here when switching between version and I wouldn't think this will be fixed because, sooner or later, there will be no need to switch back to 3.0.2.10. -- Best regards, Miguel A. IMAP: Attachment retrieval and viewing/saving issues
Hi all, If I select a message with a large attachment, the message body loads alone. I click on the attachment button and see the attachment name with the size defined as 0. TB! really should display the size of the attachment. Otherwise, how am I to know whether or not it's too big to retrieve at a particular time, namely when using a slower connection? The next thing which isn't as problematic but still a problem. You select one of the attachments to be opened. TB! pops up a message asking if you wish to download message and all associated attachments. I click yes and TB! does this. I then have to go back and reselect the attachment for opening and only then is it loaded. This latter behaviour should be potentially transparent in that the popup prompt asking if you're sure etc., should be optional in that one should be able to disable it. The other thing is that when you select the attachment to be opened, it should be downloaded *and* opened. Not simply downloaded with the user then having to reselect the attachment for it to be downloaded. Finally, as mentioned in a previous message, there's the ability of downloading only one attachment at a time that should be there. -- -= Allie Martin =- The Bat! v3.0.9.18 Return System Specs: http://www.landscreek.net/sysspecs.htm -=-=- Radioactive cats have 18 half-lives. pgpzV8lHWh4V3.pgp Description: PGP signature Current beta is 3.0.9.18 Return | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html IMPORTANT: To register as a Beta tester, use this link first - http://www.ritlabs.com/en/partners/testers/

I agree in all points, Allie. The way Mulberry (I know you have it) handles this is great. One can selectively download an attachment and more than that, the size is shown before downloading. The only way to guess the size of an attachment is to view the whole message size... :/ When retrieving an attachment it would be great to go on reading. I agree in all points, Allie. The way Mulberry (I know you have it) handles this is great. One can selectively download an attachment and more than that, the size is shown before downloading. I doubt it'd be that difficult. Just add BODYSTRUCTURE to the IMAP call when fetching the original message information. That'd also quickly establish if there were attachments, and if there are pgp/mime parts too... For example: A01 UID FETCH 30066 (BODYSTRUCTURE BODY[HEADER.FIELDS (DATE FROM)]) * 160 FETCH (UID 30066 BODYSTRUCTURE (((text plain (charset us-ascii) NIL NIL quoted-printable 528 22 NIL NIL NIL)(text html (charset us-ascii) NIL NIL quoted-printable 3836 122 NIL NIL NIL) alternative (boundary _=_NextPart_002_01C545BF.03350AD0) NIL NIL)(image jpeg (name pearls.JPG) NIL pearls.JPG base64 50500 NIL (attachment (filename pearls.JPG)) NIL) mixed (boundary _=_NextPart_001_01C545BF.03350AD0) NIL NIL) BODY[HEADER.FIELDS (DATE FROM)] {97} Date: Wed, 20 Apr 2005 10:38:34 -0500 From: [name protected] ) OK FETCH completed. Shows that email consists of one plain text part, one html part, and one attachment (an image named perls.jpg), and if I remember my bodystructure stuff... I think the 50500 is the size of the file. BODYSTRUCTURE gives me a headache after a while :) Of course, I could be way off the mark, and they could already be doing this, I've not looked at the output from an imap conversation in a while, and I saw they introduced a few features that might mean they are already doing this. The only way to guess the size of an attachment is to view the whole message size... :/ It's all in the BODYSTRUCTURE ;) When retrieving an attachment it would be great to go on reading. This is not possibly because of the download progress bar which shows up and replaces the message. I mentioned this a long time ago, but didn't get any response. mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You could, if your server supports it, add more connections. Under Account Properties, there is an IMAP Fine Tune where you can increase the number of connections. There is even an option to dedicate a connection to reading messages, but if they wrote the whole connection stuff in a smart manor, it'd use whichever connection is free, and always reserve one for reading. -- Jonathan Angliss [EMAIL PROTECTED] pgpky6RjKgR95.pgp Description: PGP signature Current beta is 3.0.9.18 Return | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html IMPORTANT: To register as a Beta tester, use this link first - http://www.ritlabs.com/en/partners/testers/
IMAP: Wrong Body Loaded, and Browse Deleted Messages
Hey Guys, I think I almost about died laughing, and I'm going to blame Allie for cursing me :) We were discussing offlist some things about IMAP, and he had mentioned that he had not had a wrong body loading issue with the latest beta. I was reading his email in my webmail application, while I had TB open. When I finished reading the email, I flipped over to TB, and clicked on my INBOX, sure enough, there was Allie's email, marked as read, and threaded under the other emails as it should have been. I clicked on the mentioned email, and this is what happened: http://thebat.netdork.net/imap_wrong_body.png Thanks Allie ;) I thought that was weird, seeing as I /had/ deleted the RitLabs welcome message. So I took a look at the Browse Deleted Messages dialog, and sure enough, there was the email, along with ALL the other mail from my INBOX. That is a horrifying thought. If I run a purge and compress, is TB going to assume the emails listed under deleted messages ARE deleted? Could this have been the cause of some of the posts a while ago with folder maintenance, and TB deleting the contents of peoples folders? Or is TB just not handling the Browse Deleted Messages list with IMAP very well? I checked the flags on each and every email (quite a task, I have 3000 odd emails in my INBOX), and not a single one of them is flagged with the IMAP flag \Deleted. This is on 3.0.9.17, Windows XP SP2. IMAP server is courier. -- Jonathan Angliss [EMAIL PROTECTED] pgpuJOGBizqfn.pgp Description: PGP signature Current beta is 3.0.9.18 Return | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html IMPORTANT: To register as a Beta tester, use this link first - http://www.ritlabs.com/en/partners/testers/
