I think TB! now defaults to Latin 9 (ISO) or iso-8859-15 which is
basicly not much different from Latin 1 (ISO) or iso-8859-1 that I

I'm not entirely sure on the current situation, but in the past, TB!
would also automatically change the charset of a message to US-ASCII
if no characters 127 were detected, and things may also depend on
whether you have quoted-printable turned on.

Sorting issue?

2005-07-27 Thread Fabio Muzzi
Hello tbbeta,

I don't know if this is the right list, but I have a possible bug
  to report.

I have found that if I sort messages by receive date, and the receive
date is the same for some messages (that is, they are all fetched from
pop3 in the same minute), they are shown in an order that is not the
  same they were received in.

This is really annoying since it mixes up replies in lists, putting
  answers before questions.

I think that when messages are sorted by receive date they should be
sorted based on a millisecond counter, to be sure that even when fetched
all together from the pop3 server (on a fast connection) they still get
sorted in the right order, that is the order in which they actually got
  downloaded from the pop3 server.

I tried to modify a few Menu shortcuts and I ended up with multiple
blank spots in my menus. I tried several times with the same result
after hitting reset on the menu bar.

Resolved: I had to delete my tbuser.def and allow it to be recreated.
Then I could modify it as it normally should. Apparently somewhere
along the line my tbuser.def got corrupted. Perhaps this explains a
part of the anomalies I was experiencing.

Recreating the tbuser.def file resolves the issue, but how many
settings will I have to restore now? I seem to recall that a similar
problem was resolved once before without forcing users to recreate
their tbuser.def file.

Furthermore, how did my tbuser.def file get corrupted? Presumably it
happened when I tested OTFE by backing up and restoring in the effort
to migrate. So somewhere, there is a process in TB that is corrupting
this file.

It could very well be that it simply has outmoded or superfluous

According to the repair listing I just mentioned, it was not being

tbuser.def files that are corrupted or otherwise problematic.

Yes, but that means that the cleanup is not taking place correctly
with new versions.

There are buttons in the middle of the page under Unsubscribing or

The tbuser.def files seem to be quite prone to corruption. I guess
that's testimony to how they're being changed as you customise. Mine was
completely corrupted at one point and was the source of many AV's. I had
to delete it and start clean. My current one already has a slight
corruption, but I'm getting by without having to start clean yet again.

One way to assist with this debugging is to submit the problem
tbuser.def file for examination. They should be able to see where the
problem is and hence how and when the corruption occurred.

Look on the public download page at www.ritlabs.com .
3.51 there is the same as 3.51.10.

Was released publicly yesterday, and therefore earlier betas are no

I *think* the above information is correct. It's what 9Val told me, or

Hello beta testers.

I reported this for 3.5 RC7. No change since then.

| looks Outlook-like) but am I the only one who thinks it behaves

|
| * Group by date
| * Descending order
| * New thread sorting
| * Sort by created
| * Thread by references
|
| It all works well, except I would expect that the group Last year

I have a specific reason to sort by received time instead of created

clocks set correctly. Like years or centuries wrong, but sometimes
exactly 12 hours (I figure those people are not sure about the meaning
of am and pm). I received message from Germans in Thailand who have
set their computer clocks to Thai time but the time zone stills shows
+0200 GMT. Oh well.

But I have not experienced the problem that Fabio describes. Over
here, it looks like TB is sorting the messages in the same order it
receives them from the server.

I told you all I know about it. I am very much a novice using TB. Only
recently did I start to dive in to some of the more advanced features.

I did not have a lot of customization, so I simply deleted tbuser.def and
allowed TB to recreate it upon restart. I then added the few
configuration changes back.

It's nice to have things working normally again!

 What's the way out?

Wizards item in Tools menu was available in older builds, but it was
hided in thebat.exe already. When is new tbuser.def created, item is
not displayed.

But if was tbuser.def created by old betaversion with this item
included, it can't be automatically hided by new build, current
version can't delete only part of tbuser.def.

Now You have more ways to solve this:

- delete tbuser.def (You loose all GUI settings)

- reset Main form in Customiser (You loose only menu changes in
  main window)

- delete part from tbuser.def manually:
  close TB
  open tbuser.def
  find following part:

hr
container item [MailerForm].[mWizards]
{
  item [MailerForm].[Wizards]
  hr
  item [MailerForm].[mwDownloadWizards]
}
  delete it

Enjoy :-)

there is a customiser available, where You can use Hidden item, but
current version doesn't allow to hide group, only items can be hided.
AFAIK this will be fixed, group will be hided automatically, when all
sub-items are hided manually.

They were before you were on this list, a beta even before the
Customiser interface series.

Made possible an alternative way to make a filter.

Probably it's envisioned to have a whole series of them down the road
(just guessing from posts I've read) but the item is off the menu for
now, unless conserved by someone who has been installing The Bat! over

I didn't really like them. I liked the NFS (sorting office) system

maybe there is another solution. Open Customiser, select Main menu
container, select Tools menu item and check, what is last item in
it. If Wizards, click to it and then use green left arrow icon for
removing it.

Confirmed. I got a verify-wait notification from Diman Pavlov, to

I put a note, subsequent to receiving that, that the issue is not
fixed in v. 3.51.10.

I put the steps to reproduce in once more, and referred also to the

I have since received a further BT notification, changing the status

Re: Old Smiley Quoting Bug still present in 3.51.10

2005-07-27 Thread Natasha V Pearce
Hoi Ian

If the smiley is the last item on a line and you select that line for quoting,
it depends on what you select as to whether it will selectively quote or not.

If you drag the cursor so that the smiley at the end of the line is just
 selected, it will not quote.

If you select the line with the smiley at the end and the very start of the
following line (not selecting anything on that line itself), it will not
 quote.

If you select the line with the smiley at the end, plus the following blank
line and the very start of the the next line, the smiley will quote.

It appears that for the smiley to quote, it must have printable white space
after it. It does not quote if there is nothing after it, or if there is just
a carriage return and line feed only after it.

 Can anyone confirm :(

Absolutely. In addition, as I wrote in my note attached to the BT, any smiley on
the last line will not be quoted unless another line/paragraph below the one
with the smiley/s is selected. But only if the last characters represent a
smiley, it seems.

Well, when Diman Pavlov changed the status from Verify-Fail back to

Hoi Mary

I guess we just have to wait for the next beta release, to see if it really is
 fixed.

I've just checked the daily build link: this still retrieves 3.51.9 - so no help
there. The change log (whichcanalsobefoundat
http://www.ritlabs.com/download/files3/the_bat/beta/daily.txt ) lists this bug
as having been fixed on 22.07.2005.

 WHAT?

Ritlabs, please, number the upcoming release version as 3.60.

NV, I completely agree, but... as others have argued... TB has
traditions to maintain, one of which seems to be its curious
mathematics. According to the argument, as much of it as I could
grasp, 3.6 is the same as 3.60 (just as 3.5 was the same as the 3.50
that we never saw). Go figure. :-)

 at

 bug
as having been fixed on 22.07.2005.

Here's the history:

1) BT notification came down as fixed in 3.51.10. Status: Verify-Wait.
2) I contested that it was fixed, in a note added on the BT issue report
   page.
3) BT notification came down changing the status from Verify-Wait to
   Verify-Fail.
4) Marek Mikus replied to Ian White on TBBBETA that the fix was
subsequent to the release of v. 3.51.10.
5) I posted to Marek asking him to clarify the statement in the light
of the Verify-Fail status report that I had received.
6) BT notification arrived here, changing status from Verify-Fail back
to Verify-Wait. Version listed as fixed in remains v. 3.51.10 on
   the BT issue report page.
7) I added a note on that page asking Diman Pavlov for clarification.

No further BT notifications have arrived here since then.

Unlike your experience with your report of the dropped-characters bug,
all my communications from RitLabs have been formal and
public--nothing from Diman Pavlov except what appears on the BT page,
and posts (not directly to me) on TBBETA by Marek Mikus.

So--as I say--seems to be a case of wait and see. I do hope it is
already fixed! Thanks for all your constant support!

Thank you also for the long PM that was on my machine this morning. I
hope to answer it soon. I enjoyed it very much.

Well, I guess I have a messed-up filter. Wasn't a PM. And I'm getting
a little tired at the end of a long day, so I failed to double-check
my To field before sending.

However, nothing that the world isn't welcome to see in my
unintentional reply here on TBBETA.

I appreciate the warm support from Natasha and from everyone else on

Although I am, at present, a little embarrassed at this latest slip of
mine. :(

Apologies to Natasha and to the list.

MM close TB

MM find following part:

MM delete it

Instead of item [MailerForm].[mwDownloadWizards] I had another

Thanks.

One little remark: I first forgot to delete the last }. Of course
this meant unbalanced brackets and caused an error when opening TB.
The effect was that TB didn't open but (after the splash screen)
Windows suggested I should send an error message to MicroSoft. Just
saying, this kind of runtime error should be checked by TB, even
though it wouldn't usually happen.

MM Enjoy :-)

Doing so greatly. :-)

IMAP counters and common folders

2005-07-27 Thread Natasha V Pearce
Hi everyone

Anyone else experiencing the following?

  1. Setup a Read Messages filter for an IMAP Inbox to send each message to a
common folder when it's marked read.

  2. Read a message in the IMAP Inbox.

  3. On exiting the following are true:

 a. The message is moved to the appropriate common folder - good.

 b. No message in the common folder is marked as unread. Nor does any
message appear - in terms of its color group - as though it's marked unread
 - good.

 c. The folder list count of unread messages for the common folder
 increments by 1 - bad.

 d. If there were no unread messages previously in the common folder, the
folder's appearance in the folder list changes as though it contained an
 unread message - bad.

Selecting the common folder resets both counter and color-group-related
appearance of the folder in the folder list to reflect the real situation - ie,
no unread messages in the common folder.

More Confusion about Lycos Mail

2005-07-27 Thread Jay Walker
I just thought to download the 3.51 MSI to test how it upgrades a
simple, largely non-functional OTFE installation on a desktop that I
rarely use. So once again I had an opportunity to see the advert for
Lycos Mail. I must admit that I still find that advert confusing,
mainly because it appears to be somewhat misleading.

The short blurb on Lycos Mail states that you get 1Gb storage, but
when you go to the Web site from the Sign Up hyperlink, you see that
the free option only gives 300Mb storage. To get 1Gb, you must pay for
a LycosMax account. In fact, if you pay a little more, you can get
10Gb with a Lycos Personal account.

So my question is: Am I missing something here. We learned that users
of TB will get free POP3 access, and that is also mentioned on the
Lycos Mail Web page. But do TB users also get a free upgrade to 1Gb
storage as well? If so, nothing is mentioned about that on the Lycos
Mail Web page.
