No, there is no solution because they've changed interface to DLLs

Logging in to the site is not the problem, I can do that. The problem
is you cannot create a new account. I
have tried several times. I have keyed in my account info, clicked
submit and it goes into lala land and
never returns. Then you can try logging in to the account with the
info just submitted and am told account
does not exist. Log back on the the site and try to create the same
logon data you just used and you do get a message that the
user Id is already in use. So, possibility the new account info is
getting recorded but not updated properly
so that a photo can be uploaded. Something is rotten somewhere. :-/

Kyle,

I have mentioned on TBOT that several people do not succeed to upload
their rogue photo. I think there are more than one moderators of:

I expect to hear from them.

Re: 4.0.12 - How do I get my CSAPI back?

2008-02-10 Thread Stefan Tanurkov
Hello Ian,

IAW I had a look at your other posts on the spell checker. The problem
IAW here is that I have been using Office 2000 Premium for around 3
IAW years.

Office 2000 has no CSAPI, so no wonder you can't use it.

IAW Until the most recent MSI updates, I had full use of the CSAPI
IAW spell checker.

How do you know that you were using CSAPI before? May be you're being
confused it with SSCE?

IAW Personally I do not care which spell checker is there, as long as it
IAW actually works. At the moment (as in my post), it appears that any
IAW spelling is OK as long as the first character is uppercase, or the
IAW whole word is uppercase, just as long as you do not have an uppercase
IAW character in any other position and there are lowercase characters as
IAW well.

Can I see a screen shot of your message editor with cases you
describe please?

IAW Then there is the inability to add words.

Do you have an user dictionary selected in the Dictionary to add
to? If so, is that dictionary of British English (you can see it in
the Dictionary manager).

Hello All,

In Version 4.0.12 and perhaps earlier too, I have had two sets of 'Plain

Message' window.

Has anybody else had this problem? I solved the problem by using customise
and removing the single entry of each item from the layout list. To my
surprise when I re-opened the customise window it again shows one entry for
each item!

IMHO it would be desirable to have a third item for 'Plain text (MicroEd)'

 Spelling problems

I decided to see if loading an old copy of the SSCE5132.dll into c;\program
files\the bat to replace the new dll would make any difference. The dll I
loaded was created 29/08/2007 and is slightly larger (143kB, new is 132kB)

Spelling now works as expected based on initial testing!

I hope this offers some hope that the development team can rule out other
factors (registry settings etc) and so concentrate at what is different between
dll's.

recently, with another program, where strange things occurred on just a few
sytems yet work on the majority it was found to be the codeset used which did
not work on some AMD processors.

Hope this helps, for now I have a speller that works.

Re: How-To get the 3 spell checker engines to work - Part 4 (Hunspell)

2008-02-10 Thread MAU
Hello Graham,

And that's all. As I said in my first message, if this helps at least
one of you, I'll be happy :)

Thank you for describing what is required to get spelling to work.

Despite all your efforts I cannot get it to work.

That's strange.

In line with your advice I can confirm I have all the files you
mention for SSCE and english (BR) selected.

Again, strange. What options do you have ticked for the SSCE engine?

Following your instructions I added Hunspell (dll was already there
 but added other files)

Why did you do that? Did you somehow 'disabled' SCCE first? Otherwise,
you are just adding more variables to your 'problematic environment.

What 'other files' you added?. Just the dictionaries for BR?

I use MS Word 2007 and so no CSAPI - maybe this is the problem?

No, the fact that CSAPI is not available should be no problem for SSCE
to work as it should.

OK, all appears correctly set up but it refuses to work

frunt lok (these have no effect as being mis-spelled)
99ggg 444ggg (these are underlined in red but only for numeric followed by
 alpha)

Spell cjhecking is a must for me and I am deserate for a solution, I
should add that untill V4 (all versions) it did work

I have copypasted your four lines above in my editor window and all
misspelled words are flagged correctly. And I have tested, ONE AT A
TIME, with the three engines.

 Anymore ideas, help!

Not at the moment. I would anyway suggest trying an engine at a time.
And I would try to get the SCCE one to work first. Hunspell seems to
work fine too, it is the dictionaries that may make a difference. In my
case, I tested the Spanish one and it is quite poor.

Re: v4.0.12 spelling

2008-02-10 Thread MAU
Hello Graham,

I decided to see if loading an old copy of the SSCE5132.dll into
c;\program files\the bat to replace the new dll would make any
difference. The dll I loaded was created 29/08/2007 and is slightly
 larger (143kB, new is 132kB)

I assume you understand that you fiddle at your own risk, aren't you?
Changing things like dlls to see what happens, without perhaps knowing
quite well what you are doing and what for, may be dangerous or at the
least confusing.

So you are saying that you removed SSCE5532.dll (version 5.16.8.0) and
you copied SSCE5132.dll (version 5.6), correct? Are you aware about the
differences between the two versions?

http://www.wintertree-software.com/support/ssce/revisionhistory.html

There have been quite a few changes between 5.6 and 5.16, haven't they?

Spelling now works as expected based on initial testing!

Sorry, I may be wrong but I think you are confused. Are you sure the
SSCE engine and dictionaries are working? Again, I may be wrong, but I
think that your TB is now using ONLY the Hunspell engine and the
Hunspell BR dictionary. I'll tell you why.

I did as you say you did, remove SSCE5532.dll and added SSCE5132.dll,
and spell checking with SSCE dictionaries doesn't work at all. Every
single word in the text is flagged as misspelled, no matter which
language (SSCE only) is selected.

So, what I believe is happening is that as you said in your
mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] you added Hunspell and it is
Hunspell who is finding the correctly spelled (with Hunspell
dictionary) words.

In the 'Part 1' message last night I wrote:

,- [ ]
| One important thing to understand and remember is that you do not
| select 'dictionaries' for spell checking, you select 'languages'. And
| that if there are dictionaries for that language from different
| engines, they will all be used. In this case, the rule is: as soon as a
| word is found correct by one of the dictionaries, it is considered
| correct (even if another dictionary wouldn't consider it as correct).
`-

Why don't you do something. Rename or remove temporarily your Hunspell
dictionaries so that only the SSCE ones will be used and see then what
happens. I'd appreciate if you let me know.

Re: 4.0.0.22: A great job again!

2008-02-10 Thread MAU
Hello Greg,

BTW if you ever want to go back and try VA then take a look at
 http://www.virtual-access.org/. :)

No thank you, I don't think so. I think since it became open source it
has progressed very little.

I must admit VA was way ahead of it time. IMHO it was a marketing
mistake which created the problem as well as the demise of CIS. Kind
of goes back to before the Internet became popular to the general
public. Doesn't seem so long ago, but I guess time flies. :)

It certainly was the best and most powerful then. And yes, perhaps
ahead of its time. I am quite sure that if development had continued it
would now be way ahead of many other clients including TB. But that's
life.

Actually, I am quite satisfied with TB and just miss a few things from
VA. The one I missed most at first was handling newsgroups with the same
client, but I solved this with the MyGate plugin for TB and it just
works flawlessly. Although not very often I also missed some tines the
capability VA had to handle two languages simultaneously (Spanish and
English in my case), but that has been introduce in v4 now.

The other features I still miss are: Ignoring threads, Bookmarks and,
perhaps the most, Toolbar Macros. If you recall, for those repetitive
actions we all do, that require a sequence of several keyboard shortcuts
(or selecting a sequence of menu entries) you could assign that
sequence to a custom toolbar button and the sequence would be executed
every time you clicked on it. Yes, I do miss toolbar macros. When TB's
Customiser was in development I hoped they would include something like
that. But no, they didn't.

And remember it had the option to select Full or Short menus? It is not
that I miss that one myself, I'm just mentioning it in case RIT guys are
'listening' ;-)

v4.current: Bug: SMTP auth

2008-02-10 Thread Kertész Vilmos
https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=5656 still there:

Using e.g. a GMail account (that requires SMTP auth):

Account, Properties, Transport, SMTP, Authentication... window:

1. Perform SMTP auth, checked
Use specific settings, put your user name and password in
Require secure auth, not checked

Mail can be sent. OK.

2. Perform SMTP auth, checked
Use specific settings, put your user name and password in
Require secure auth, checked

Mail CANNOT be sent. OK.

3. And now the bug:
Perform SMTP auth, checked
Select the Same user/password as for Mail Retrieval
Check Require secure auth
Now check the Use specific settings, put your user name and password in
Require secure auth, NOT checked

Try to send mail. Mail CANNOT be sent.

I think, the cause is, that there are two Require secure auth
checkbox. One for the Same user/password as for Mail Retrieval and
one for the Use specific settings. And if either one is checked
(even if the checkbox is hidden), sec auth will be used when we set
Use specific settings.

Solution: there should be only ONE Require secure auth checkbox, and
its state should decide if sec auth needed or not, independent from if
Same user/password as for Mail Retrieval or Use specific settings.
is selected.

Please confirm.

Re: 4.0.12 - How do I get my CSAPI back?

2008-02-10 Thread MAU
Hello Ian,

M Do you perhaps say that because you no longer see the bar line that
M used to separate the SSCE languages from the CSAPI ones? If so, the
M separator is gone with the redesign. You have a number of languages
M available to choose from no matter from which set (engine) they are.

No, it is because in the Spell Checker|Options dialog I only see SSCE
 and Hunspell.

Yes, that's where you should see it.

I had a look at your other posts on the spell checker. The problem
here is that I have been using Office 2000 Premium for around 3
years. Until the most recent MSI updates, I had full use of the CSAPI
spell checker. I have not made any changes to my system other than
run the MSI package and now the CSAPI spell checker has gone.

As Stefan has already asked you, how do you know that you were using
CSAPI before?

And I see Stefan has replied to the rest of your message.

TF have one entry for each.

'Options/Message format' has been removed from the Options menu and the
format items appear as individual items in the row of menu items as in the

Have you been fiddling with Customiser lately? :)

I have the four options that Thomas mentions from 'Options/Message

You will see that I have further customised things to include the four
options that used to appear under the Options menu that you mentioned below.

Why did you do that, do you change so often? As I send, even if you

the Status bar.

message. After I further edit the outgoing message before sending, the
attached zip file suddenly shows at 0 KB (instead of the original 50

 attachment.
I will monitor this further, just to make sure when it happens, but
I have not seen this before with TB. does this sound like a
Windows problem or a TB problem?
What editor are you using? I can't reproduce it here
 Plain text (MicroEd).
I also keep the attachments in a separate subfolder within the overall
mail folder. Is that (just as Eudora used) better, or is it better to
keep the attachments in the mail itself?

Better to store inside. BUT dont change it from one to the other. If
you would like to move from sep. dir to store inside, do this:
- export your all your mails from that account
- make a new account where you select to store the mails in the
message base
- import your exported mails
- verify that you see all mails
- delete your old account, setup the filters again, set the proper
name, email etc. for the new account

I dont have good experience with changing the store type for an
existing account...

Also, users reported me the problem with a 0-length attach, too. We
completely solved it by moving them to store the files inside the
mails.

Another problematic point was the settings in the Account/Files and
directories tab:
Bind attachments only when sending. You have to have it unchecked,
otherwise you can get this error.

Try something. Exit TB and rename your 'tbuser.def' file or move it to

Re[2]: v4.0.12 spelling

2008-02-10 Thread Graham
Hello MAU,

 On 10 February 2008 at 17:53:08GMT +0100 (which was 16:53 where I live) -
you wrote and made these points on the subject of - v4.0.12 spelling:
mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Yes I appreciate the potential problems but only did this to see if the problem
was external to the program or The Bat directories. I totally agree, very
risky and not something I would normally do. I have some 30 years computer
experience and although way out of date in programming I understand the
implications. What concerned me was the fact that others said they had no
problems with spell checker yet there are some, a few it seems, like me having
real problems.

Not yet reviewed the change history but thanks for the link, will read that.

I should add that I am very new to The Bat having only recently bought the Pro
version so I am learning slowly. I do find it interesting to follow and test
beta versions and realise they can be confusing and introduce new problems.

Why don't you do something. Rename or remove temporarily your Hunspell
dictionaries so that only the SSCE ones will be used and see then what
happens. I'd appreciate if you let me know.

You are not wrong and the above made me try a different approach as you
suggested.
As you say I had both Hunspell and SSCE loaded.

To make a clean start I renamed the Hunspell dll to make it inoperative and
then deleted all the SSCE language files (I have The Bat pro) and then repaired
using ver 4.0.11 msi to reinstall them, which it did.

Testing the spell checker with SSCE only, resulted in same error - no checking
or red underlining except it flagged any word containing numeric and alpha
mix.. Removing the option for ignoring stopped those so something is working
as it reacted to this option setting.

Essentially, SSCE does not work to check spelling wrong words.

You asked about options, I tested before using those you used but since have
tried different combinations. Same result - no spell checking so the bug,
whatever it is, lives in SSCE5532.dll as supplied in latest version release.

OK, now renamed SSCE5532.dll to make it inoperative and reset the Hunspell.dll
to work.

Great, as you predicted, it works and although I have not tried many options or
words it is more than satisfactory for my needs.

Thank you for getting me this far.

Whilst this sorts out the immediate need it does still remain that SSCE5532 doe
not work.

Can you confirm that SSCE works for you in isolation (no Hunspell) as it is
very strange indeed.

Thanks again, your help has been very much appreciated and I hope the SSCE
problem can be found and resolved.

Well, that's the case here. Till alpha 12 I had greek CSAPI spell check. And
I know it was CSAPI because SSCE doesn't have greek. Now the CSAPI is gone
and I'm stuck with hunspell which is vastly inferior to CSAPI.

There is no CSAPI here but up to alpha 12 there was. So there is definitely

If the Options are greyed out, this does not mean that Hunspell is
not working - it only says that the Options are not availiable
(because they are still work in progress).

Actually, HunSpell does not allow to set any option - it just works
:-) So, please don't expect much on this matter.

So let me ask a heretical question:

If HunSpell actually does *not* allow any options, what is the

The Bat! 4.0.12.1 is available at
http://www.ritlabs.com/download/files3/the_bat/beta/tb40121.rar

What's new in 4.0.12.1 since 4.0.12.0:
[*] Better looking new account dialogue
[-] Fixed an AV when viewing some S/MIME certificates.
[-] Message deletion settings for Exchange Server (MAPI) accounts weren't
properly set for newly-create accounts.
[-] New MicroEd was not working properly with IME (Far East languages keyboard
input system)
[-] If a host name in DNS had multiple IP addresses, The Bat! couldn't connect
to it via POP3/SMTP. Only IMAP connections did work properly. This was most
obvious when connecting to localhost under Windows Vista to an application that
didn't support IPv6. Failing to connect to ::1, The Bat! didn't try to connect
to 127.0.0.1

guys, please, if You are changing GUI parts, create some new wizards,
where will be user able to select this.

Select means, there will be old and new modes selectable, because let me
know, how easy can be gradient colour set back for viewer and editor...
Current setting is not so easy, I know this from users.

And not like now, where something is used for months and then installing
new version, it is gone without confirmation or selection what mode should
be used.

This is same like new Microed implementation with fonts selection - if
user used other font in NonProportional setting and installs v4, it sets
font used in HTML Proportional setting.

Users expect, You will ask them what setting should be used, if their old
setting or new one.

I just came across this when preparing a message with attachments for

automatic save kicks in and then the path to the attachment is lost
the attachment becomes 0 kB in size and when you try and send it you
 get the invalid path error.

The only solution to this is to disable the automatic save of

Thank you. For now, I have turned off auto-save. But perhaps in the

Better to store inside. BUT dont change it from one to the other. If

 - make a new account where you select to store the mails in the

 - import your exported mails
 - verify that you see all mails
 - delete your old account, setup the filters again, set the proper
name, email etc. for the new account

Ack! I might melt.

I dont have good experience with changing the store type for an
 existing account...

I don't think I'll try. I have been warned, so the cost/benefit
ration is too high.

I just now unchecked that option. Thank you. I will see what
happens there.

There are some very smart people in the beta team, which is much
appreciated.

Have a great week, everyone.
