Delete Server certificate

2011-01-15 Thread Marcus Jaeger
Hello All,

I have a problem that drives me crazy.
I changed the name of my mailserver and installed a new server Certificate,
official one. The IP address of the server is still the same. Now TheBat! still
wants to use the old certificate when I try to use TSL/SSL.
Where can I delete the certificate in TheBat!, where is it installed, just can
not find it.

Hi Stefan,

release, it's just too much of pressure. I hope you're understand

I see your point, but make sure that you don't add new functionality
then that isn't working yet (to name but a few: hints, image manager).

So, please post your showstoppers as replies to this message and we
will deal with them asap. Please don't forget to add a BT link, too.

I'll try to check for BT later this day, but here are the annoyances
for v.5 that really bother me:

- No update of a common folder after a message from an IMAP account
was filtered into it. The folder count gets updated though. Switch
to a different folder and back shows the updated content okay.

- Mailticker ages not working. Therefore I switched off Mailticker
completely. As I tend to leave messages unread till I worked on
  them.

- Tabs not correctly refreshing. If you have a quick search tab and
switch to unread the content stays. Only 'All' triggers a refresh.

- With a quick search filter active and a message displayed in the
message window if you switch to another folder with no results for
the quick search the message is still shown. Very confusing.

- IMAP folder management needs to be reworked for release. Currently
everyone tries to set there preferences there to no avail.

1. Syncronization complete doesn't work.

2. Browse deleted messages shows only messages deleted from

as deleted before or from other clients doesn't show up. Also preference for
this doesn't stick after program restart.

3. When deleting multiple emails some messages are not deleted from
local cache. You can still see them in the list and they disappear
when switching folders.

4. Message list is not refreshed if emails are deleted from another
client.

5. New thread sorting doesn't work most of the time.

6. Moving messages to Trash and marking them as read setting doesn't
work.

7. Window split mode sizes are not remembered after restart in this version.

8. Image Manager is complete mess. Doesn't remember size window. Some buttons
doesn't work as expected. Though I don't use it at all.

9. Links in mouseover overlay still appear even if hints are disabled. This is
very annoying.

Re: 5.0 showstoppers

2011-01-15 Thread Krzysztof Trybowski
Hello Stefan and everybody,
I've just downloaded 5.0 for the first time yesterday, so I have a
fresh look at how it is different to 4.0 (as that is the version I
normally use).
I tested 5.0 for a few hours yesterday, and I definitely see some
progress. I certainly hope that infrastructural changes will allow for
faster development in the future — this is a good direction. Also I
hope that architectural changes will make The Bat! less prone to bugs
and regressions — this has been a major problem up to date. I hope for
a cleaner, less-cluttered and more intuitive interface to appear
during 5.x series (I already see some progress in this area too!).

What I want to say is, it seems to me you've taken a good path.
Having say the above I must also say this: current state of 5.0 is
alpha. There is a number of features not working at all or misbehaving
in an obvious way. If you want to make a “release”, which I understand
(the “pressure thing you wrote about”) you may consider cutting out
the misbehaving features first and then calling a release “an official
beta”, a “preview” etc. This will allow you to close, summarize a
certain period of work, without sending your audience a false message
that 5.0 is actually ready to completely replace 4.x series.

As for a list of bugs I absolutely agree with Raymund and Marek! Let
me just draw your attention to some of them that are particularly
annoying to me:

* view modes misbehaving heavily, for example new thread sorting
doesn't work at all,
* selecting folders for IMAP and making them synchronize is a
nightmare — I had to look in three different places: account
properties, IMAP folder management and folder properties. What I ended
up with is far from perfect: I see the usual folders and a folder
[Gmail] below them in which there are all my gmail folders. I'd like
to have things in the same way as I have them in Gmail;
* there is annoying something appearing every now and then as I hover
messages; it looks like a scaled-down message preview, but it is of no
use; I'd keep that off by default
* view modes are not saved at all

This brings me to another point: one particularly nasty recurring
issue in TB is not saving or not applying settings (this existed in
4.2 message list tabs; exists now in viewmodes). I mean that you may
have two objects set up in the same way (for example two message list
tabs) which have exactly the same checkboxes checked etc. but yet they
work differently. You may fix these bugs on a more general level by
doing two things: creating an abstraction layer for saving/reading
settings and switching to a text-based settings storage. This last
step would greatly facilitate bugs diagnosis, since also end users
could see what's wrong.

Regards,
KT

Not sure if this one is reported or what the BT reference is, but

my IMAP account for new messages unless done manually. Not even
sending command line /CHECK or /CHECKALL makes it happen.

IMAP fine-tune settings are set to refresh folders every 90 seconds.
This does not happen. Until this works, TB doesn't actually match
minimum expectations for an email client.

I think these are my main problems with v5. Having said that, it has
been my only mail client here for 6 months.

If I understand it correctly it is whether the messages are automatically

can download only the message headers, or only headers and message content, but
not attachments or complete message. It currently will not sync at all, meaning
you have to select each message before it downloads. Once downloaded it does
stay on your computer, usually.

I created a lot of BTs, but from my list the only showstopper it's
this:

5.0.0.x Alpha. Deleting attachments works but you need to press ESC for refresh
the message or change the current folder
https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=8032

It evolved from not refreshing the deletion of the attachments, to
show one error message each time you try delete one attachment and one
chump at TB! closing, and now with 5.0.0.128 it's not possible to
delete any attachment.

This other it's not showstopper but it's very easy to fix:

0008179: 5.0.0.x Alpha - Make button zone of Image Downloader Manager bigger

In short: almost everything reported for the UI.

The sheer number of error messages I get - i.e. closing TB leads to

I beg to differ. First of all, I do not have any unforeseeable errors
with v4, nothing out of the blue. Quite honestly I don't remember any
showstoppers. Mind, I do not use IMAP. That is not to say that v4 is
perfect but it works quite well for what it was originally programmed

The last point is vital! IME it is the little nags which put off

current stage v5 looks a lot more like a lab case, to try out how
developer's ideas would work in general. A case in point is the - in
my view completely superfluous - new 'hints', getting in the way
instead of improving handling of TB.

Contemplate a potential new user of TB happening upon a program that
constantly reports errors, that loses [much touted!] view modes,
obstructs my reading of mails with unnecessary hints*, shows
non-existing messages, does not move deleted messages to the Trash
folder but simply lets them vanish, annoyingly leaves open empty
Message Browser windows, does not filter correctly. Be sure, this
potential user will uninstall TB within an hour or two, probably
actively do negative marketing.

I would probably be a little more confident if I had seen any of the
reported problems go away but they stay while the release notes are
rather short with many a headscratcher. Currently v5 is ALPHA, I would
be slightly disappointed to see it as a BETA. It is definitely not a
good idea to make this a public release.

as I already reported, in 5.0 there is no progressbar when copying/moving

is not maybe showstopper, but for basic users, this will be very missing

Hi Marck,

Not sure if this one is reported or what the BT reference is, but
while not a crash is a major usability impediment: TB *never* checks
my IMAP account for new messages unless done manually.

Confirmed here. I always thought that was an issue with hibernation...

Having said that, it has been my only mail client here for 6 months.

Same here. It's interesting what you can bear if it comes to The Bat! :-)

Yes, and v5 might have some night ideas for an airbrush paintjob but
it lacks doors, the hood comes of easily, three of the four tyres
installed are either flat or rim only, the steering wheel goes left
only, the passenger seat is a beer crate ...

I don't exhaust all the features, so don't have any showstoppers to
write about. But I will say that for my Gmail account with the IMAP
option, versions 5 have worked better than versions 4.2xx ever did.
There has been no problem handling an inbox queue (unlike versions 4).
I am about to return to using TB as my primary, instead of
Thunderbird. It is only a matter of time (and that is based upon my
schedule of tasks, not based upon what more work you're doing).

Thanks to Maxim and you and the team at Rit Labs for your work. And
may the new year bring forth gifts and joy THROUGH you and TO you.
