Actually, this is not correct. Mulberry is by far the best, most
complete, and most capable IMAP client. Unfortunately, it has an
outdated GUI and complex configuration.

I, personally, have fairly good luck with TB's IMAP but I do
everything server-side. My complaints about IMAP, however, are
reflected by most everyone else's: odd message counts, improper
display of deleted messages, and so forth.

I will not, however, buy the next version of TB until it has proven

The issues you point out have nothing to do with its ability to handle
IMAP (and, as far as I know, the performance issues stem mainly from
not being multithreaded but I could be wrong on that). In strictly
discussing which e-mail client has the best IMAP handling, Mulberry is
it. If you expand it to include a host of other things, such as what
you've mentioned, then, you're right, MB doesn't make the cut. It's
those reasons why I, too, no longer use Mulberry. TB's IMAP may be
lacking but it makes up for it in a ton of other ways and, like most

This is not a reasonable argument. The Bat! isn't a web browser but,
unfortunately, a lot of people like to treat the e-mail they send as
web pages which forces mail clients to implement, at the very least, a
rudimentary HTML display system (which The Bat! has). This is far from
a full-fledged browser and thankfully so.

Now, having said that, I like eye candy and little pictures of
contacts (or even a customizable icon symbol to immediately show which
account an e-mail was sent to) is kind of neat.

But, let's let Ritlabs finish making IMAP stable. I *still* have to
restart The Bat! several times a day because the IMAP queue gets

Neither will I. When I saw Maxim's comment that they're holding off

Cyrus will be releasing the Mulberry source code into the wild soon so
I plan on building my own mail application around it. I had to build
my own feed reader since I couldn't find one that I liked well enough

I fully agree with this sentiment but I also would like to add that I
haven't liked the trend of producing all-inclusive software since ICQ
and Netscape started doing it back in the late 90s. It's worse now
that everyone on the planet seems to think that adding RSS feed
capability is an easy value-add but that leads to the issue that,
well, now nearly every program on my computer tries to choke me to
death with RSS feeds. I'm fully expecting the next version of my
preferred disk defragmenting tool to start offering RSS feeds as well.

Anyway, feeds are supposed to be lightweight so I never understood the
need to burden them with complex management tools (which is why I
wrote my own very minimalistic app called FeedLynx that has a list of
items in the order that they were received, grouped by source which is
in turn grouped by category, viewable with a built-in browser that
allows me to bookmark interesting topics rather than retain their RSS
item source, and nothing else).

Besides, what's wrong at having a series of programs each doing what
it does best? I suppose it's a matter of convenience to have to only
pay attention to one systray icon rather than several but that's
something I'm willing to give up for having the best tool for each
job.

So, if I can vote negatively on adding RSS feeds to The Bat! any
moreso than I have, let me know. I'm pretty good at totally derailing
a mailing list thread with a paragraph or two of personal bias.

Actually, I discovered that a handful of folders had their

Hello.

Here's what Curtis [EMAIL PROTECTED] typed on
  Sunday, October 30, 2005 at 4:27:40 AM:

The internal implementation is based on PGP v2.x. That very early
version doesn't support the key types used by a lot of PGP users.
Neither does it support some of the algorithms currently used by some of
us. This is the likely reason why you're having problems importing keys.
I'd suggest installing GnuPG and trying that one.

Thanks for the details.

Not to drag this off-topic but Tony suggested PGP. With The Bat!, is there any
benefit for using one over the other?

Hello.

Here's what Curtis [EMAIL PROTECTED] typed on
  Sunday, October 30, 2005 at 2:35:09 PM:

OTOH, GnuPG and GPGShell (Win32 frontend) make for a nice solution that
entails a harmless installation routine which you never have to worry
about compromising your systems integrity. GnuPG is VERY quick and
 integrates quite well with TB!.

It's possible to have both running on the same system, so you could try
 both and make your decision.

I installed PGP Desktop 9.0.2 and immediately ran into a plethora of
issues including, but not limited to, the complete loss of network
connectivity for everything except e-mail. I figured that didn't bode
well so I uninstalled and went with GnuPG which, as you've described,
works well so far.

Thank you very much for your help.

'Watched By Folders' and Notification Control

2005-10-13 Thread Randy
A couple of questions:

1. What does the 'Watched By' feature do?

2. Is there any way to mark folders so that they do not cause the

only interested in my actual e-mail folders notifying me of new

A Few Questions

2005-10-10 Thread Randy
I'm fairly new to The Bat! (I'm testing it for possible use after the
demise of Mulberry) and I have a couple of questions:

1. In the IMAP Fine-Tune dialog, what does 'Auto-filtering' mean? I
dug around the help file and the FAQ but came up with nothing.

2. Is there any way to make PGP/MIME always stay on? It has three
options (Auto, On, Off) but I can't find a way to make them stick.

I've tried this with the last stable release and with the 3.61.11
beta.

Thanks!
