TB! v.5.0.5 RC5 IMAP problems

2011-04-01 Thread Michał Lewiński
Title: TB! v.5.0.5 RC5 IMAP problems

Hi, I have found following bugs:
- opening new message appear "no message is loaded" and I have to close and reopen it again to view message, cached messages opens ok.
- downloading attachment, TB doesn't finish this process - all the time attachment is downloading, closing window and reopen makes attachments useful
- imap folder properties, action on exit, clear messages cache: doesn't work, only way to clear cache is to manually push button "clear cache now"
- compress folders on exit, in v.5 it takes a lot of time, in v.4 was very quick

Windows 7 x64 PRO SP1

I've been testing on Thunderbird and Linus mail programs using IMAP. I've
noticed a few
things.

a) I have a much higher degree of control over my folders with the other
applications.
In The Bat, I am very limited in what I can do.

b) Set up is snap. Load in the server information and way it goes.

c) Thurderbird does not have all of the options that the Bat could have.
However, it;s
options do work really well.

d) I can get to my spam folder quickly with out a problem. I cannot for the
life of me
find it in The Bat. Very frustrating.

Overall, I'm finding the IMAP implementation is moving forward yet the pace is
slow and not
comparable with other open source applications. I'm hoping the issues will be
addressed
soon.

Yeah, I hope too, but I can't compare The Bat! performance with Thunderbird.
Thunderbird is slow and uses half GB memory. I would never let e-mail program
to do that. Not mentioning neat features in The Bat! Only that this beta
testing lasts too long and issues are still very present

Provided that Thunderbird shows the folders in the same way as they're

I would agree.

Thunderbird does use a lot of memory. Yet, the IMAP does work and works.

The challenge I'm having is The Bat - my program of choice - is struggling to
get the
IMAP sorted out and on track.

I need some resolution on the IMAP.

I applaud the long careful testing cycle. However, at some point, either the
program is
ready to move forward or it is the best program for POP only.

First we upgrade to version 2 on the promise of (better) IMAP support.

I see this pretty regularly, though only in a particular circumstance:

Say that I'm reading mail in TBBETA. New mail is added to the TBBETA
mailbox through server side filtering and the count in TB! updates
with the server check.

If I select one of these newly added messages, the message seems to
load, however, it's not displayed. All that I end up with is the 'no
message loaded' screen. I say that the message seems to load because
I'll see the progress bar appear and move to the right to completion.
It then disappears and the preview pane flickers and instead of the
message body appearing, it's the no message loaded. I have to move to
another folder and then return in order for the message to display as
it should.

This is the problem Gary has a lot. He browses his Inbox and gets a
lot of these problems since messages are being frequently added. This
disrupts the loading of message bodies.

It would be interesting to take a survey. There are some people who
report constant and intolerable problems with their IMAP, and others
who find it very workable with just a few complaints. The ones with
the problems are the most vocal but I have no real sense of what
portion of IMAP users here they represent.

My IMAP complaints are minimal compared to some, so I'll keep still
and let them do the reporting.

A few things you can test for me.

Do you ever get No message loaded and then it just sits there. See

Delete a few messages from an IMAP folder then move to another IMAP

Ok, I answered this :), independently from this mail :)

Delete a few messages from an IMAP folder then move to another IMAP

The problem is, that I did not manage to setup my Sent, Deleted,

They're not. Purge+Compress removes them if selected from the Folder menu, but
they're not removed automatically on switching to another IMAP folder. It's as
though alternative deletion is used in addition to normal deletion when a normal
delete is performed - should be instead of.

reading the same email within that mailbox, using Outlook 2003 and Mulberry
for the test. This is in my LAN Unix IMAPS server.

tcp4 192.168.0.6.993192.168.0.5.2203 ESTABLISHED

The same multiple connections are showed on a different IMAP server, MDaemon

And now to something slightly different:

What about the issue, that TheBat! loses eMails larger than ~1MB
when moving mails from local to a remote directory via IMAP?

I selected to automatically move sent eMails to the Sent-dir on the
server which works for small emails but not for eMails with 1MB or
higher size. TheBat! opens the task to move, does something but after
some time, the task disappears and the mail is still local - not on the
server.

TB! has this behavior since v2.xx and it is impossible to move bigger
eMails. Afaik this is a well known issue (at least in german boards are
a lot of users with the same problem) and it's still in the pre-beta
release, so what about a fix at last?

I have this problem with each of my imap-accounts on differents
providers. Moving with Thunderbird, KMail etc. is working well.

LOL... I think pretty much most IMAP servers are that way, Binc and I think,
Courier are on Unix/Linux (I use Binc as you know), and I am using MDaemon
Pro in XP for IMAPS also.. I don't know about UW-IMAP as I have never used
it. But it makes sense, any connection to the server is just another socket
connection, and its only limitation is that of the OS as to number of total
sockets. Regarding locking of a mailbox in IMAP, there can't be any. An
example would be a public mailbox on an enterprise IMAP server which might
have 100, 200, 500 or more simultaneous connections to it at any given time,
so it can't be locked, as a POP3 mailbox would.

I also think the type of mailbox is important also in the way it stores
email on an IMAP server. Examples, in the mbox format style, all mail is
stored on one spool, versus the Maildir format where each email is stored as
individual email, not on one spool. Therefore, there is no mbox spool
locking required when new mail arrives to be appended to the spool, or to be
read by the user(s). Binc, Courier, and MDaemon work on Maildir type
formats, each email separate, therefore making multiple accesses to the same
email, in the same mailbox possible.

IMAP: Problems with connection on running test

2005-03-07 Thread Allie Martin
Hi all,

There's a 'test' button beside the IMAP tuning option on how
many connections to the server are allowed.

I ran the test at home and it was fine. No problems found.

However, when I ran the test at work multiple times, TB!
said some of the connections failed and that there may be a
problem with the server. Right. :) I doubt the problem is
with the server.

Additionally at work, messages frequently don't load and I
have to use the reload option and though I can read
messages, I'm still waiting a while for some to load. The
overall performance is well, flaky when compared to
ThunderBird under similar conditions. I still can't make the
transition to IMAP from work.

IMAP seems to work fine with TB! connecting to the IMAP
server on this same machine.

Re[2]: IMAP Problems

2004-07-05 Thread Stefan Tanurkov
Hi Mike,

MS 1. Cleared cache messages *wasnt* selected and I did a full
MS synchronisation (both right click menu and F2). Sadly no success
MS there.

Did you actually perform synchronisation (by pressing F2 or the Fetch
button)? If you just view a folder, only headers get synchronised.
Other sync modes require explicit commands such as synchronise all
folders or a single folder...

MS 2. I had tried the Reset button which doesnt get rid of the folders. I
MS do wonder if this is a problem with Exchange, although Outlook WA
MS doesnt show them at all.

There is a difference between actually existing folder and folder you
are subscribed to. If you cannot get rid of some folder you don't
actually have on the server, it's most likely you are subscribed to
them. Simply unsubscribe from them and *then* use the Reset button.

The messages appear to be being stored now. If I go offline (note: a
go offline button would be handy rather than having to delete the
connection from connection centre). Is there a reason why the same
directory structure as POP3 accounts is not used??

I have tried unsubscribing (and resetting) but even certain folders I originally
created and then deleted and which are unchecked for subscription
still appear in the subscribed list and wont disappear from my folder
listings.

The folders dont appear when I use Outlook, Outlook WA or Pine. Very
strange!

Thanks

Does seem much more reliable than 2.11 though, although these niggling
problems do detract somewhat!

Ive been testing 2.12b7 using IMAP on exchange server. In general the
overall IMAP reliability seems good however there are a few issues I
 have run into:

 1. Cant seem to see how to retain a local cache of individual
folders. When I select under manage folders to synchronise full
messages nothing along these lines happens

AM Right click one of the problem folders and select 'Properties'.

AM Is the option to 'clear cached messages on exit' enabled?

AM Do you hit F2 to make the folders actually sync?

 2. I deleted a folder through Outlook WA, yet they still appear in TB
when I do a full syncrhonuse. It throws an error saying the serving
says they dont exist but it continues listing them. ANyway to get rid
of it?? I assume the server must be listing them as still there.

AM Open the 'Manage IMAP folders' panel and hit the reset button, then
AM hit 'Close'. Usually, that will cure the problem of folders persisting
AM in the TB! IMAP account tree and yet they no longer exist on the
AM server.

 3. Anyway to select subscription/synchronisation for a folder and all
 sub-folders in manage IMAP?

AM Not that I can see. The Manage IMAP folders panel will give you as
AM much efficiency as is currently possible with subscribing to folders
AM on the IMAP server.

IMAP Problems

2004-06-22 Thread Kevin Amazon
Hello Everyone:

First the good news. The Bat v2.12 Beta/1 is far superior to v2.11.02
with regards to handling IMAP. However, we still exhibit problems
with:

1. Blank message content screens. No matter what we do (refresh
folders, re-synchronize, re-boot, etc.) some message screens are blank. We have
found that if we move a message from one IMAP folder to another and
then move it back, the content appears. (not a problem from Outlook)

2. We still get the dreaded no message loaded indication with
messages in IMAP folders. This only seems to go away when the client is
restarted (unacceptable). (not a problem from outlook)

3. The Bat does not empty and IMAP trash folder on exit. We have the
IMAP trash folder defined in Account/Properties/Mail Management, In
Account/Properties/Options the check box Empty Trash Folder on Exit
is checked.

A bit more work needs to be done on the IMAP component, IMO. It
certainly is not yet sufficiently reliable for production use.

you check if clearing folder cache helps?

Have you looked to IMAP requests queue? Saying where TB! frezes could
help us.

Thanks for the prompt reply. No, I haven't executed your suggestions
