Mass Mailing Feature / in Filters? (Hard One)

2001-03-07 Thread Thomas Speer

Hello TBUDL,

Now that the list is back to live I'd like to send my question in
again. because I didn't get any answer!

Is there any chance to do the folowing:

I'd like to forward a mail I got to a Group of People. But all schould
get a personalized mail saying:

#Start of mail

Hello "%TOFNAME"

this Mail I got from . should be important for you too...

*forwarded mail*
%Quotes
*end of forwardet mail*
"sig"

#End of Mail
---

So my thougt was creating a filter (trigered by Shortcut) that is
sending out the replys to the People! This works as long as I am not
trying to Personalize those mails which I would like to!

Copying the text to the QT i don't like and sometimes there are
Atachments too... which arn't to handl that easy.

I leared the Meaning of the saying "never say never" with theBAT

So is there any one who can give me a Hint how to do this

I've tried everything David and couldn't come up with an answer other than
using a Folder level template for my replies. Works nicely. :o)

This one addresses to the original FROM address:

%TO=""%TO=%OFromAddr

If this also doesn't work, send us the complete headers of any posting
you received via that list.

NA> Perhaps I am including it in my template in the wrong place or

There is no specific order. I put macros like this at the end of the
template, because they cause a blank line if they are on top or in the
middle.

Other than that, the help file lists the marcos and their
functionality. Look for The Complete List of Template Macros. There is
a wealth of possibilities there. ;-)

I humbly try.

This macro pulls a name (or whatever you want) out of a specified AB
entry. The syntax you can find in the help. So instead of using the
usual macros that pull the name from the address itself (more or less)
you can us %ABnnnPPP to create a personal opening.

For some entries in my AB's I use "Nickname (Handle)" to fill in a
nickname (which is not quite correct usage). There is a young lady
called Romy (First Name) who I normally call Principessa (Nickname).

If I now have a mass mailing using a QT I either have to fill in some
of the names by hand or use a neutral opening or ... do the following:

Hello %ABTOHandle="%TOFNAME"!

This provides those, who have a nickname like Romy with a personal
message: *Hello Principessa!* Others will get *Hello John Doe!*

I just asked Ritlabs to include a field especially for this purpose
since people with the same nickname give the problem that the handle
has to be unique (no Tom, Dick or Harry).

With just another field we could get the option to even sign
personally (well, that is, without ill use of the AB).

Hope that was of help to you.

Have you check with Ritlabs whether there is another place to download
it?

Thing is, TB's help request is language-sensitive. This is a good
thing, because you don't want to open an English help file if you
always use your software in Spanish. However, I don't thinnk that
Ritlabs would have made TB point to a file that doesn't exist
somewhere in Cyberspace.

If there is indeed no Spanish help file available anywhere, copy (or
rename) your English help file to Bat_Esp.HLP; at elast you will have
some help available.

Try one of the following:
1.) %TO=""%TO=%OTO
2.) %TO=""%TO="[EMAIL PROTECTED]"

The first %TO="" removes what is in the TO filed, the other %TO sets a
new value. %OTO is the Original TO recipient. But if any messages sent

It sounds like we have the beginning of a (or a partial) solution,
and is probably better than other available options. With time, and
greater demand from Spanish speaking users, this situation will
probably improve

Kill Dupes uses *only* message ID to find duplicates. Are
you sure that you haven't received multiple copies?

Alternatively: Can you post the headers of two of these
identical messages here, such as left untouched by the Kill

Kill Dupes

2001-03-07 Thread John

Hello TBUDL,

Before using the Bat!, I used Eudora, then Outlook Express. So in the
past I imported my messages from Eudora to OE, recently from Eudora directly to the
Bat! and of course from OE to the Bat! I don't remember which to which
exactly. To avoid any message being missed, I imported every possible
message from different sources ( Inbox, Sent, Messages imported from
previous email clients)into a single archive folder to get them
referenced into threads.

I know there are dupes as some messages may have been imported more than once.
So I used "Kill Dupes". To my surprise identical messages (Text,
Sender, Recipient are identical except Received dates which are
different)remained in the folder.

Should I conclude than identical messages Received (downloaded or
imported?) at different dates are not considered as dupes? Is there a
way (other than manual) to remove these identical messages?

IMHO The Bat! is a good email client it does not pretend to be anything

This does not address your message, but your question has given me
the opportunity to ask other related questions.

Microsoft Outlook Express integrates successfully with Outlook the MS contact,
information and time management software. The BaT! does not seem to perfectly
integrate with the contact managers you mentioned. Why is it so? Does the developers
of these softwares consider the Bat! as not being important enough to include it in the
email system setup wizard? So why doesn't RITLABS create its own information manager

I don't have any notion of programming, but a PIM in my opinion has much in common
with an
email client : Address book, sorting, filtering, templates, search function, tree
structure
for organising messages (tree structure for organising information for a PIM), forms,
columns etc .
I may be completely wrong, but can we say that a good email client is already half way

Ack.

IMO you have to put the list name in the BCC field.

IMAP problems

2001-03-07 Thread jennyw

I can't seem to get The Bat! to use IMAP. It accesses POP accounts fine, but
with IMAP it just hangs, saying 0.0kb. Is there a trick to it?

Assuming it does work, does The Bat! have full support for IMAP? In
particular, I'm hoping that it can access IMAP folders other than just the
inbox, and also have filters which can move messages to IMAP folders. OE,
for example, can only move messages into local folders. Currently, the only
mail app. I've used that can do this is Netscape, but it has other issues
and I'd love to move to something else.

Thanks!

Jen
