I get the same errors and it doesn't matter how I send the e-mail in.
The attachment process was working just fine with SC up until a few

IMHO, it appears to be something on Spamcop's end but they're not saying

I don't have Netscape on my machine any more, so I canot look up what I
think the culprit is: IIRC The Bat! is launched by Netscape with a
parameter %1. This parameter seems to have got lost. Check where the
path and program name for the application is that Netscape should open
when encountering a mailto link (this might be in the registry) and
add "%1" (without quotes).

Yes, I just noticed that. Plus say you want the whole background to
be a different color, you would have to actually change the
background color of every single color group, both read and unread.
Too much work. Not a big deal, I can live with white.

You can change the background colors.

Look at the message list colour configuration panel again. For each
colour group, you can configure colours for when the message is read
and for when it's unread. For the unread and read colour settings, you
can change the colour of the text and also of the text background.

Actually, I have to regularly shave my moustache and beard. I'm a
Mr.

For read filters to be automatically, this will only happen if the
message is automatically marked as read and when you move to another
message.

You can however run any active read filter manually. You can apply the
read filter/s to any folder in the account where the filter rule
resides. You can do this with any filter set. You can manually apply
incoming filter sets to any other folders within the respective
accounts. Try it.

There seems to be either a difference of opinion, or differences in
how TB! works on different PC with possibly different versions. See
my reply to Roelof.

MAU> What I did for the test is to assign Reply or Action colour group
MAU> to a few of the messages I have (already marked as Read) in my
MAU> Inbox-Known folder. Then, I manually filtered the Inbox-Known

MAU> to Action folder.

Well I'm trying to do something similar. See my original post on this
message which includes a copy of the read filter. What I'm doing is
creating a manual read filter (which works according to you) and
search on wild card ^.* and color group and trying to move to a
sub-folder and park at the same time. What I'm trying to do is an
extension of our discussion when I first started using TB!. I marked
messages in this ML based upon my perception of functionality to me.
I was thinking about purging message DB after period of time and
parking those which are deemed important. Basically I'm learning.

I agree with Roelof's suggestion in that I'm doing to much for what I
need to accomplish. So I think just parking the messages and
assigning a color group based upon functionality would be good. The
problem appears to be how read filers work for some and not others.
I'd rather keep the 2 seconds automatic mark to read because I don't
want to have to Ctrl + M every message to mark as read. To me this
seems like a lot of work. So either I missed something or there is
got to be another way.

This as well as your earlier message on how you set up TB! as well as
the "ticker" thread have got me to thinking about how to manage
message DB. TB! filters are a great tool, and I've read the thread on
RegEx which on initial read seems to take to another level (i.e. makes
even great tool even better). So if I can master TB! tools it can
become an even more valuable too.

BTW I'm on my 3rd beer after watching the Preakness. Great race and
triple crown winner still possible. Also I noticed you never replied
to my message from over a week ago on managing DB, so according to
your recent message on managing TB! you must not have felt it
important. I will admit some of the concepts were a little
out there, but I believe valid. Given the limited response and IMHO
maybe not the best place to post such a response.

Have a good weekend!

Those two panes use system colors. To change the background color it
has to be done system wide. Right click on the desktop/choose

I have just tested a couple of my "Read messages" filter manually and
they worked just fine even though the messages were already marked as
Read.

What I did for the test is to assign Reply or Action colour group to
a few of the messages I have (already marked as Read) in my
Inbox-Known folder. Then, I manually filtered the Inbox-Known folder
with my Read filters and those messages in Reply colour group were
moved to my Reply folder, and those with Action colour to Action
folder.

Sometimes it comes in handy when you're able to do some filtering that
you only want to happen when you're watching or after you've done some
checking or whatever. Then you'll go for re-filtering the folder,
there you can choose from different sets (in, out, read, replied) your
manual filters get run, it's even possible to run only manual filters.

So actually it's nice to have manual filters. Especially the 'manual
only' option gives you the possibility to run only one filter without
deactivating all the others.

But as far as I can tell that only changes the color of the
messages and not the background color. Would be nice to have a
little more control of the colors of things in The Bat. I know
others are saying there are more important things to work on than
the frilly stuff. I agree. Certainly wouldn't trade the Bat for
anything and would never want functionality to be squandered on
too much time spent on other frills. Still would be a nice option

Wierd Netscape Mailto problems

2002-05-18 Thread b

Hello there Bat! list members:

I'm new to this list, hope you can help me with a wierd one. Here
goes:

Iinstalledand registered the Bat (corporate license). I
downloaded and ran NsProto as
instructed on the website to register the Bat as the mailto
application from within Netscape. This worked fine for a while -
about two hours.

Then apparently I did something to knacker it up. Before that
time, when I clicked on a mailto link in Netscape, the Bat would
launch, and a 'new message' window would be invoked with the
mailto address inserted into the address line. Now, when I click
on a mailto, the Bat launches, but without invoking a message
window (ie: it launches the Bat but doesn't initiate an actual
message).

I have fruitlessly combed over the Bat for possible changes I might have
unwittingly made for several hours. I have unregistered the
protocol in Nsproto, deleted the protocol, made a new one, and
re-registered it but still no change.

I do hope you can help me out as I am really depressed over the
fact that it worked once but no longer.

Thanks a million.

Cheers,

brian

I think you're going way to difficult.
Just park the messages worth saving and let TB purge on age. It'll
leave the parked messages. When you notice some parked messages at the
end of your folder, you can move them manually to possible subfolders.
(First you've got to unpark them.)

viewing pleasure of the message window, but I can't seem to find a way
to change the background color of the folder list or the message list.
Are those not customizable? I'm not a "color" freak or anything but
just get tired of looking at the all white background.

Manual Filter?

2002-05-18 Thread Greg Strong

Hello TBUL,

In short I want to manage the TBUL message base which is based upon
purging messages based upon a number of days and keeping those
messages deemed worth keeping.

This is what I"ve attempted to do, but it is not working. I'm trying
to create a manual filter of read messages of looking at the messages
in a folder with a certain color group and moving them to another
folder. This folder I'm trying to move the messages to is actually a
sub-folder of the original. What I've done since starting to use TB!
is use color groups to indicate what type of helpful TB! hint the
message is from TBUL. One of the actions in addition to the move on
the filter is to Park the message. I then was planning on purging the
folder based upon time frame.

>From what of read about "Read" filters is they have to be applied
automatically meaning at the time the message is marked read. If this
is the case my intended use of the filter will NOT work, since all
messages are already marked as read.

Thinking about how TB! works here with reading other applicable TBUL
messages I probably would be best doing a search on the color group,
then move all to the intended folder. I would have to park all the
messages by selecting them and a Ctrl + J. I would have to change how
messages are marked "read" from 2 seconds to manual, then change my
manual "Read" filter to active. If I understand everything correctly,
then when I mark the messages as read manually (Ctrl + M).

The only issue I have with my solution provided it is workable is that
now I have to manually mark all messages as read. This would be lots
of Ctrl + M's. A possible IGNORE capability is looking real good now.
I've included a copy of my filter below providing my thinking is
correct for the solution. Is my thinking correct here on a go forward
basis, or what is my best alternative to do what I want to do? Do
sub-folders inherit the characteristics of their parent and can they
be changed?

I think you will be much happier if you forget about TB's GPG support and
simply go with the Nullify Build of GPG 1.0.7 and use GPGShell 2.30 as

The multi-account support didn't disappear in the previous version
(1.54). After 30 days you got a pop-up message saying that you should
register or ask for another 30 days' grant period (which is a very
nice concept), and everything was fully functional as before.

What happens after the second 30-day period, I don't know, because the
hard disk of that friend of mine was stolen out of his office.

Somewhat OT: and email address question

2002-05-18 Thread Krister Ekstrom

Hi Bat! people,
I have considered using TB! as a mail server for a discussion list and
so i read the great howto on setting up lists. There's one thing,
however that i can't understand the meaning of, and that's a
"forwarding address" which is a plus to have according to the HowTo.
Now since this is OT for this list and probably a FAQ I'd be very
greatful for either a pointer to an explanation of what forwarding
addresses are used for or if somebody could explain, (preferably
off-list so as not to clutter up the list) how to use such an address.
TIA

I think it means that the mailbox of the person you are sending the
message to is full, and will not accept more mail.

SpamCop Encoding problem

2002-05-18 Thread Julian Beach (Lists)

Hello tbudl,

Using the filter script posted by Marck last week, I have set up
filter to automatically send spam messages to SpamCop as an
attachment. The file sent is called Export.txt, and is a Unix Mailbox
file. When I view this within TB or email it to myself it looks fine.
However, when I send it to SpamCop I get it back with a message saying
that Spamcop encountered problems. The returned message looks like
this:

And that's great. IMHO: Let it run and be happy with it, you don't need

Browsers' functionality (was Re: TheBat! FAQ What I don't understand, and WHAT I REALLY DON'T UNDERSTAND.)

2002-05-18 Thread Avenarius

A Bat-fellow, Shane R. Monroe,
wrote to TBUDL on Thursday, 16th May 2002 at 20:50:11 (GMT -0700),

Allie Martin wrote me off-list saying that what I so praised in Opera
(funcionality, eg. opening links in background via a keyboard
shortcut) can equally be found in Netcaptor. But as Shane comments...
really? Can anyone confirm whether Netcaptor

-- can zoom in & out of a page using the + and - keys (works for
pictures not only text)? Netcaptor uses IE engine so I'd be pleasantly
surprised to see it handle this as perfectly as Opera does.

-- understands mouse gestures?

-- shows you on every separate webpage that you're opening the speed
with which a particular page is loading, percentage of pictures/text
loaded? IE tells you none of this while Mozilla's data are sketchy.

-- is as fast as Opera? On my system, browsing with Opera is
perceptibly faster than browsing with IE. So wouldn't switching to
Netcaptor slow down my surfing?

Plus, Netcaptor is shareware while Opera is free. Its ad window is
negligible on a screen with high (1280x. or even less) resolution.
Yes, some webpages as of now do not perform well in Opera. It's
important to base one's assessment of Opera on the current version
(6.0x), it was a real breakthrough (though it introduced some new
bugs). Opera for Linux 6.0 was released for the first time a few days
ago and Linux people have been heard to comment favourably.

Re: incoming mail while reading list

2002-05-18 Thread Thomas F

Hello Michael,

Michael L. Cusac wrote:

MLC> a) Flag messages I may want to reply to, so I can find them again.

I did this before, but it creates a lot of work. You have to unflag
the flagged messages too, after your have sent your reply.

MLC> b) Turn off the feature that automatically marks mails read as I go.
MLC>Also annoying, since I like that feature a lot.

I'm not using it. I go to the first unread message, then hit enter:
the view folder window opens. Then I hit crtl-*, and all threads
expand (I thread by References and sort by Received / Descending).
Then I just navigate with crtl-], which jumps to the next unread
message. There is a shortcut now which goes back to the message
previously read, but I forgot which one that is.

MLC> c) Manually set TB! not to connect to servers while I'm reading, then
MLC>change the setting again when I'm done. Super-annoying.

I agree.

MLC> Can somebody suggest a better way for me to handle things?

This is what I do: when I come across a message I think I will reply
to, but I want to read the end of the thread first, I hit enter. This
will open a new view folder window, which I then use to further
navigate, but in the previous window, the message remains open. When I
have finished reading the rest of the threead in the new window (maybe
hitting enter again in the process, opening another window again,
etc), I close the new window(s) and reply from the original one. If I
still want to reply, that is.

Another possibility is to hit Reply whenever you think you want to
reply to a message. Instead of actually writing the reply, you save it
as draft. When you are finished with the thread, you go to your Outbox
and either write the reply from the draft, or delete the draft.

HTH.
