I sent an additional test message with a '11 x 20 chars' subject line, so simulate the white space characters in subject: no crash. There's _no_ such limit in RFC-(2)822 that is near 150+ characters, the only limit given is: 999 characters, and a recommendation to have lines no longer than 78 or 80 characters (means: folding long header lines). Re: Scheduled Mail Checks Stopped Working
Hello Bob Curtis, BC I know this was discussed previously and I believe the consensus was BC that ZA was causing the problem of automated email checking BC stopping. I don't think there should be such a consensus. Rather a consensus that the mailchecking problems might be caused either a) by some kind of conflict with ZA or b) by conflicts not related to ZA that nobody has been able to define. I have experienced these problems with several versions of TB using 3 different firewalls as well as no firewall at all. There are other users who like yourself have reported in this forum that they have a similar problem without using ZA. BC Is there any additional info regarding TB and auto checking not BC working? Nobody really figured anything out in this forum about the non-ZA related type of problem, but now you have the problem you might follow an earlier suggestion and check the log to see if there's any indication that a mailcheck was actually attempted. Also, export the TB part of the registry and we might be able to compare with the same export from a machine that's working and find some explanation. -- Regards Johnny Skaaning The Bat 1.61 - Windows 2000 Current version is 1.61 | Using TBUDL information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

THIS long line in fact I could imagine making TB! crash. For sure there's a buffer in The Bat! that reads one line at a time. This buffer has a max length. This length is overflowed with this mail. There's no 'try/catch' - The Bat! crashes :-/ I just read something about 150+ _characters_ in original post ... seem I'm not concentrated enough after a long day of working :-) But ... is it really _one long line_??? That question has to be answered, else there's probably something completely different that makes The Bat! crash. It's hard to imagine the MTA did not fold this overlong line, that's why I ask. @James: could you contact your ISP to grab this mail 'as is' out of your mailbox and send it to you as ZIPed (or any other form of archive that conserves _the original state_) file??? Any chance this could be done??? -- Regards Peter Palmreuther (The Bat! v1.62/Beta1 on Windows 2000 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 2) Exploding piglets! My god, it's raining bacon. Hello list, There's one shortcut I really miss in TB! When I'm reading a message, I know I must use the space bar to scroll down. help needed with secure smtp
Hello TBUDL, I'm using The Bat! Version 1.60m under Windows 98 4.10 Build 1998 My school (www.columbia.edu) has changed the configuration for sending mail. According to their instructions (http://www.columbia.edu/acis/email/authsmtp/), I should use the secure smtp with authentication in order to send my mails. So I tried to follow the instructions for the other mail clients. In the account properties I added the send.columbia.edu as a sending server, I added the authentication, I chose the connection to STARTTLS and in the authentication menu a ticked the Perform SMTP Authentication and Used settings of Mail Retrieval. But when I try to send an email i get the following error in the log and the I cannot send the mail. quote 25/8/2002, 19:01:14: SEND - sending mail messages - 2 messages in queue 25/8/2002, 19:01:24: SEND - Initiating TLS handshake 25/8/2002, 19:01:27: SEND - connection finished - 0 messages sent 25/8/2002, 19:01:27: SEND - Some messages were not sent - check the log for details \quote Not to say that in the log there are no details beyond the previous quotation. Furthermore I added the certificate of the university in The Bat. I need your help in order to use the mail server of my university. Don't hesitate to contact me for more details. -- Best regards, Apostolos mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Current version is 1.61 | Using TBUDL information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

I think that Popcorn might do this - it works only on messages on the server without downloading. It is no longer available from the developers, but if you search for Popcorn you should be able to find it. If not, let me know, and I will email you a copy. JS In fact, they recommended that I open the message from the JS Web mail alternative. Bad suggestion IMO why is it a bad suggestion? As far as I see it, it may be your only chance to read the message. And if it's not private, I would send it to RIT labs to help them fix the bug. -- Ricardo M. Re: TB Shut down on Periodical Check
JS Unfortunately, Popcorn will not allow me to redirect that JS message without first downloading it... I think you won't find a program like that, because it goes beyond the capabilities of the POP protocol. The protocol allows you to receive and/or delete the mails in the server, but there's no command to send/redirect an incoming mail. Maybe if the mail server provides web access, you can use their site to send the message. -- Ricardo M.
