that really isn't a problem, although it's easiest to have a separate
inbox for each account for anything which isn't picked up by any of
the filters. You can filter to folders in one of the accounts, or, as
I do, use common folders, outside the account structure.

That really isn't a problem either. You have to have each account
check it's own mail, but it all happens at once, you'l just see
multiple accounts if you check the connection centre.

I'm using a portable and at home connect to cable, at the office DLS.
Sending is a problem, but I collect accounts from cable, accounts from
DSL, batpost.com, gmx, earthlink and another email provider. It works
fine, and seamlessly with mail all going into common folders.

TB! doesn't directly support downloading mail from multiple POP
servers using a single account. This is supposed to be an available
feature for v 2. Unfortunately, we aren't sure when it will be
released. In the meantime, in order to download mail to a single set
of folders, you can do one of two things:

a) Take advantage of TB!'s ability to filter mail across accounts.
Do this by copying all the filters from the main account to that of
the other accounts. You can do this easily by first closing TB! and
then, copying the 'account.srx' file for the main account to that of
the other accounts. When you restart TB! all filters for the main
account will be in the other 2 accounts.

Your account folders are found in your working directory which is by
default, the 'Mail' directory which is in the TB! installation
directory.

b) Use a 3rd party application, the simplest being X-Ray. This
little application, specifically designed for TB! users, acts as an
intermediary relay server between TB! and remote POP and SMTP
servers. You can setup X-Ray to download mail from the remote POP
servers while TB! gets the downloaded mail from X-Ray. You can have
X-Ray download from each ISP on a turn by turn basis each time you
poll for mail. Of course, using this method, you'll not be able to
check all accounts simultaneously.

If you wish to download mail from multiple remote servers directly
to a single TB! account, then you'll need to run a full POP3 server.
There are free ones available like Mercury/32 and Hamster. These
mailservers leave small footprints and use little system resources.

To download mail from all accounts at once, use the 'Tools/Check
Mail for All' menu command or hit Alt-F2.

Downloading from multiple accounts

2002-11-14 Thread sacksa

Hi, everyone. Is it possible to set up The Bat to download from multiple
accounts into existing folders as I transition from a local dial-up ISP to
a cable connection?

Specifically, I filter e-mail into approximately 20 different folders,
based on content and sender. I also have hundreds of rules for filtering
trash, since each spam that comes from a new sender, has a filter set up
for it. The cable company will allow me to have up to 6 mailboxes. I
have set up 3. I would like to be able to do two things:

1. as mail is downloaded from each account (the one dial up + 3 cable
accounts) I would like it to filter into the existing folders and not into
new folders inside each separate account.

2. I would like to download mail from all accounts at once and not have to
go into each account and download the mail separately.(Eventually, the
dial-up account will probably be dropped.)

Is this possible? If so, how do I set it up?

Thanks for any help.

explain spamfilter, please

2002-11-14 Thread Ochrid
On 04 Apr 2002 Marcus Ohlström posted in this group a 'ready

I admit, it is a bit late, but could someone please explain some
details to me.

Marcus gave the follow filter (one of three):

[begin part filter]
 BeginFilter Name: Spam
 Active: 1 Source: \\marcus\Inbox
 Target: \\marcus\Inbox\Spam
 CopyFolder: none
MainSet:
50teen|girls|celebrity|nude|naked|adult|porn|xxx|gangbang|[at least

offer]|discount|insurance|lottery|[unsolicited
email]|spam|congratulations|adventure|hollywood|cannes|[green
card] Actions: faMarkRead,faoAdvAddressOut

[end part filter]

while I can workout what things like Source, Target and Actions
stand for, I do not know where everything after Mainset: 50 bla
bla bla can be edited.

I have successfully implemented the filter, editing the string of
'cue words' in Notepad and pasting them back in, but that seems
an unnecesary complicated way of doing things.

My question:
Can I edit the 'dirty' words that evoke the filter within the TB!
filter editor?
And if so, how?

Better than RETR use TOP, because you can retrieve only headers (top
msg# 0) or n first lines (top msg# n) or the entire message (top msg#
9 or using retr here).

Also, I've found out that using TOP the POP server does not mark the
message as read (although I haven't found many servers or clients who
honors this) because you are not asking for RETRieval but for watching
the first TOP lines... And you don't have to download a 1.5 Mb message
to find out the message is spam... TOP is also the command used by
Mail Dispatcher. My program uses TOP n to retrieve headers & first
lines, and a button let you download more lines or the entire message
if required.

I don't know how popcorn works, but it would be easy to do this within
the POP3 protocol. If I wrote such a software, I would use the RETR
command, which retrieves the mails (just like an email client does)
but either download them into RAM or (more likely) into a tmp
directory. After you've read the mails, they would be deleted from the
tmp directory. No harm done.

occurring in Word. It is a well-publisised problem, but the makers of
most word processing software regard is as a non-issue, simply because
they say people won't turn and shake their monitors. Obviously, they
have never manned a hotline.

Again, this is how I am using the colour grouping feature now. It's well

Why I mention the flagging is that I still instinctively look to the red

further possibilities for message sorting and identification. Even a simple

Hello all,

No, I am not going to continue with the recent discussion about what
is better or worse as it is just a matter of opinion. That is why I
think it should be optional.

The reason to write now about this is to point out an inconsistency
(not the first one either) within TB. If you use the %QUOTES macro,
blank lines will NOT be quoted. However, if you Copy several
paragraphs and do a "Paste as Quotation", blank lines ARE quoted. And

Interesting program. Does anyone know whether it screws anything up
on POP3 servers, since they are designed to keep track of downloaded
messages and not designed to have messages read on the server itself?
It sounds like Popcorn essentially turns a POP3 email server into an

You can reserve the flag for a simple binary symbol (which I think is
useful in some circumstances) while also labelling individual messages
with a color code. On the main menu, see Message/Color Group. You can
also set a hot-key for each grouping you establish, so you can read
the message, click your hot-key, and it's coded. If desired, you can
also filter on color grouping, or, as I do, use color grouping as a
dimensional sort that cuts across your folder distribution system.

Yes. Set a filter for read messages, with the dedicated folder as the
source folder and "@" as the text string (without the quote marks),
set presence in kludges to yes. Set the destination file and file type
under the Actions tab, ("export message to file"), and be sure to
check "append." Make the filter manual. Close out, return to the
folder, right-click, "Re-filter messages," check the "Manual"

Check the exported folder to be sure it has all your messages before
deleting them from the message base in TB! and compressing the folder.

Mailbag Assistant is better for most operations, but it's not
necessary for all operations. It depends on your needs. If you just
want to keep your messages, but do not have much of a need for
reviewing or sorting them, then just export the messages to a UNIX
file and append them. You can set up a filter from TB!, which will
either run automatically or manually. If you need to refer to the
messages again, you would probably have to create a temporary folder
in TB!, then import the file. It's a slight pain, but not much. (If
you have to do that step, just be sure to export whatever additional
messages you send after you import and process the previously exported
messages.) On the other hand, if you anticipate having to re-read the
messages or reply to them or extract information from them with any
type of regularity, or if disk space is an issue, then Mailbag
Assistant may be worth it. Try the trial.

E> I separately save images?

There are at least two ways. One is the method which Melissa
suggested. I second her suggestion. Mailbag Assistant seemed, when I
first looked at it, like a superfluous program, but it's very helpful.
Not only will it archive from TB!, but it will also take messages from
other formats, so that you can retain the same archive files
regardless of the source of the messages. You can also export directly
from TB! into UNIX-type files. TB! messages can be appended to those
files, so you can organize your messages into particular files, and,
if desired, then into particular directories. UNIX-type files can be
imported by many email clients, including TB!. Mailbag Assistant can
store messages in various formats including UNIX (which it calls
"generic"), but its compression only works with its native format; if
needed, those files can be resaved as UNIX, and then become importable
into many mail clients.

As for your JPEGs, you might consider keeping attachments within the
message right from the start. In my view, it facilitates housekeeping,
keeps the attachments in the most logical place to find them, and
keeps an accurate record of the email. Some say it also improves
security, but I think there are better ways to address that issue. In
any event, if you keep the attachments within the message envelopes,
they archive right along with the messages.

Beside the fact it doesn't matter if programming language changes to
call it a 'complete rewrite' (could be completely rewritten in same
environment; rewrite only means to throw away [most] old sources instead
of altering them), it's "Delphi 2/6" vs. "C++" if I'm informed
correctly. Might be I err, of course. But at least doesn't matter;
mistakes can be made in both languages and therefore the only thing that
counts is the result. If v2 is to buugy and unstable it can be written
in whatever you like, it doesn't make it better.
But I don't expect it being too unstable and hope the first _release_

That is correct.
Imagine it all template text and parameters like macros being 'in memory
as is' while message is not modified by user. Therefore they can be
re-evaluated when you change for example 'From' and give the focus back
to body.
The very first character you type in message body "freezes" this
template state and "manifests" the result of last evaluation in the
body. The template itself "is lost", therefore no new evaluation can be
done.

> That is, if I have already started typing, then I believe that TB will
> perform any of the template changes you suggest?

It will. that's what QuickTemplates are for.
They get evaluted when called (+) and put their text out at
cursor position.
Exceptions:
- QT contains '%IsSignature'
In this case the output will be put at the end of the message, paying
attention to a maybe existing signature delimiter
- QT contains '%Clear'
In this case the QT will clear the whole existing message body and
replace it's content with it's own output.

Haven't followed this thread, but from what I saw in the quotes ...

AFAIK, every TV set and monitor nowadays (TV in Germany at least since
1968) do have a *Degaussing* function, which doesn't de-ionise but
de-magnetise the tube - at start-up (switching it on). It's the loud
"Boing" noise one hears. Shouldn't put magnetically sensitive
appliances like watches near a TV/monitor.

This de-magnetising is needed to get clearly separated colours, if the
tube is magnetised it will show psychedelic colours like green faces
...
