Highlight the lost messages using the Browse Deleted Messages

will put the messages back where they were before you deleted them.
Then you can move them wherever you want to store them. HTH. :)

Set shortcuts via Alt+F12 then look down to find Main Menu View

TB! works fine under CrossOver Office, which is an implementation
of WINE. I don'ty know if WINE only recognises .exe files as does
COO, sso the .msi installer wouldn't work. The answer I found was
to install an earlier version of TB! (2.12) under COO which uses
the .exe file instead, and install the v3 onto a Windows PC and
then copy across thebat.exe and the two .dll files that are in
the TB! Program directory into the TB! directory under COO. It's
a bit faffy, but it does get around the .msi installer problem.

TB v3.0 vs. ver 2

2004-09-02 Thread Mary Anne Lynskey
Hi everybody. I'm certainly not trying to be a smartie, but can someone point out to
me the advantages or differences of upgrading to the version 3? If I am missing
something obvious like visual effects, it is because I am visually impaired and use a
screen reader with speech synthesis output. So any visual changes would not be at all
obvious to me. I truly don't mind paying for an upgrade, but what is different or
enhanced about version 3? What does it do that version 2The Bat! (v2.12.00) Personal
does not do?

My only minor concern is that when first starting and usually when downloading mail,
it really hogs the system and slows things down, although this is usually a minor
problem while in my word processor.

Problem with Outgoing Filter - message not leaving Outbox despite being sent.

2004-08-05 Thread Anne
I wanted to know if it's possible to send a message with an
attachment to a recipient and send a copy of the same message
without the attachment to someone else at the same time. After a
bit of trial and error I found I could do this with a filter and
both messages were sent as wanted.

BeginFilter
Name: tester
Active: 1
Source: \\gmx\Outbox
Target: \\gmx\Sent
CopyFolder: none
MainSet: 20File attached
Actions: faFwdMsg,faoFwdNoAttach
AddGroups:
DelGroups:
ForwardTemplate:
ConfirmTemplate:
ReplyTemplate:
FwdAddr: yobunny [EMAIL PROTECTED]
RedirectAddr:

ColourGroup: default
AddAddrItems: afiFrom,
DelAddrItems: afiFrom,
HotKey: 0
IsOfColour: default
SizeBigger: 0
SizeSmaller: 0
AgeOlder: 0
AgeNewer: 0
InAddrPos: 0
OutAddrPos: 0
InAddrGroups:
NoAddrGroups:
KillFile:
KillMethod: 0
SaveTemplate:
SndFile:
SysSound: 0
SoundTime: 0:00-0:00
AllowTime: 0:00-0:00
EndFilter

However, when I checked the Outbox the copy message without the
attachment had been put into the Outbox again with a FWD prefix
before the subject line, and on pressing F2 it is sent again, but

the subject. Every time I do a mail check/send this happens...
I've not deleted the message from the Outbox as I wanted to find
the cause of the problem before I do. So far the subject line
reads like this:

Fwd: Fwd: Fwd: Fwd: Fwd: Fwd: File attached

it now reads like this:

If you use e-mail for business and don't have an up-to-date
backup then you will come to grief regardless of what e-mailer
you use. It's not a case of if it happens but when it happens!

Take a look at Karen's Replicator www.karenware.com - it can
handle automatic backups of any size. We've even used it to copy
over hard drive contents before reformatting them.

There are enough good tools out there to use so not having a
backup for any business is just plain crazy.

I booted back into Windows and downloaded the mail using TB!

T I was able to operate TB! with only minor annoyances -
T connection center displays a blank screen, but it works and I
T cannot minimize TB! to the tray. If I do, it goes away and I
T can't retrieve it.

Connection Centre under this version ( v2.04 RC/3 ) will not
always hide itself, then after using the program for a while it
works normally - go figure! ;-)

Under Xandros it minimizes fine to taskbar and shows in systray -
despite the option to not show on taskbar and only in systray
being ticked!

T If I remember correctly, certain functions such as SmartBat
T didn't work as well.

Seems to work OK under Xandros - though I admit to not using this
very much anyhow.

T My goal is to get a working copy of TB! with a shared e-mail
T directory on all three systems (triple boot - W2k, WinXP and
T FC1).

This should work well if the mail directory is held on one
of the Windows partitions but I don't know if it will under
Fedora on a Linux partition - does Fedora have the option to let
Windows see shares like Xandros does?

T I've already accomplished that with Thunderbird. But
T Thunderbird isn't TB!

A so where did you put the mail directory...?

Thunderbird isn't bad per se - it's a good replacement for those
who are used to OE and want something simple. It lacks a
Dispatcher - which I did suggest a year ago, and the suggestion
was poo-pooed by the Thunderbird forum - they really couldn't see
the need/use for one! sigh

T It's a shame that it doesn't seem like there's any interest at Ritlabs
T to develop a Linux version. I've used all the MUAs I could find on
T Linux and none comes close to TB!.

Hear! Hear! Although Sylpheed Claws would be my choice if I had
to use a mailer other than TB! under Linux.

I suspect if further discussion is wanted on this it'd better go
to TBOT - where there's been some interesting discussions about
running TB! under Linux of late.

I think I've set the follow up to this to TBOT - if I've mushed
it, sorry mods! ;-)

You could try uninstalling your Personal (but save your own key

Yes that's right... download the Pro eval version, shut down

Then relaunch the program and you should see that all works as

Selective Quoting in Replies

2003-11-12 Thread Mary Anne Lynskey
 tbudl,

I am not very familiar with the concept of selective uoting in
replies as I am used to just posting reply at top of message. It
seems like a very awkward process. Or is that a normal reaction to
someone who is new to doing this?
could someone explain how to do this or point me to a place where I
can read about it?

When I select one part of a message to respond to, I hit F4 and can
write a reply, but the rest of the message disappears. Is the answer
simply cursoring through the message and leaving a blank line between
the quotes and my response? Thanks for helping this novice!

My attachments don't show anymore :-(

2003-11-09 Thread Anne
Hello TBUDL,

I store all my attachments on all my mail accounts in separate
folders - and the Mail folder is on another drive (E:). Today
when I went to check back in TB! on some older digest format
messages I found they were empty messages - no text, no
digest... zilch! but the attachments are still in the
attachments folder on the E drive.

I checked other accounts and the same there - not just digests,
but .zip, .doc, .pps, .gif, .jpg etc files all show as 0kb size
in TB!'s attachment pane and if I try and open them they are
empty files but they are still there in the attachments folder
under Explorer and I can open them from there properly.

The attachments that are affected are from around May 2003 but
the dates vary between folders... in some folders it's all
attachments before 21 May, in others it's all before 13th May
and so on... no logical pattern.

Additionally, the icons that should be there to show
attachments are vanishing as I highlight each message.

Does anyone have any idea what has happened? This is causing me
major problems as I need to be able to check back on back
  digests etc

Filter for forwarding messages from different account

2003-11-01 Thread Mary Anne Lynskey
I've been trying to build a filter, can't gett it to work and don't
know what I am doing wrong. My intent is to forward a message I
receive from one group to another, but using a different account
identity for the forwarded message since I am subbed to that group
with a different email address. My incoming message filter first
moves the message to a folder. That folders properties have the
identity set to the desired email account from which I want to
forward the message. The filter also has the forward to
box checked and the group address for forwarding typed in the edit
box. I can manually forward
the message from this folder to the desired group with no problems. I
can't seem to get the filter to correctly change the identity for me.
I am rather a novice at making a complicated filter like this one, so
any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Daniel,

As I said I sent it again as MIME rather than UUEncode and it
still arrived scrambled. My correspondent sent me this reply
about it today - you'll see he has figured out what was
happening, but what I'd like to know is why? I certainly did not
compress the file - it left here as plain text and came back to
me as plain text when I mailed it to my other account, but this
is what he says:

The bad news is that when I looked at this second attached file, it was
all gibberish just like the first.

The good news is that I am a little bit of a techie myself. Looking at
the gibberish, it struck me odd that there were no blank spaces or
repeated characters or any words standing out. It did not look like a
word processing file. I began to wonder whether the file had been
compressed. So, I ran a little experiment. I replaced the extension
.txt with .zip. Then, I asked my computer to decompress the file.
Voila'! It became a readable text file of the will of Elizabeth
Docwra.

So, the file you sent was really a compressed file and should have had
the extension .zip instead of .txt at the end of the title.

Any thoughts as to why/where this may be happening? My
correspondent uses comcast.net as his ISP - could it be something
they are doing to the attachment - perhaps as an anti-virus
measure? I can't see it being my ISP (Freenetname) or the one I
mailed myself would have been treated the same way.

HELP - Text attachment unreadable...???!!!

2003-10-22 Thread Anne
Hello All,

I've a problem with sending a text file to someone - it's a plain
text file created in Dominote (notepad replacer) and is
completely plain text - unformatted.

I attached it to a new e-mail using my genealogy mail account (not
this one) which is a Yahoo.co.uk box, account settings are:

Encode attachments using UUEncode
8 bit characters treated as Quoted Printable

Mail editor settings are:

Message format - Plain Text (MicroEd)
Message encoding - Latin 1 (ISO -8859-1)

The recipient uses (from his reply to me) X-Mailer: Apple Mail (2.552)

The text attachment I sent to him as
[elizabeth of kneesworth 1843.txt] he received but when he
tried to view it was unreadable. He has sent me the file back and
it is also unreadable to me... as an example I've copied the
first few lines of it:

begin 644 elizabeth of kneesworth 1843.txt
M5AIR!IR!T:4@;%S=!7:6QL(%N9!497-T86UE;G0@;V8@;[EMAIL PROTECTED]
MF%B971H($1O8W=R82!O9B!+;F5EW=OG1H(EN('1H92!#;W5N='D@;V8@

M9%U9VAT97(@16QI[EMAIL PROTECTED]AE(%=I9F4@;[EMAIL PROTECTED]AE;B!(=6=H97,@36]U

Can anyone please explain what has happened here? I regularly
send plain text files to others (it's part of a Wills
transcription project) but have never had this happen before.

To check if the text file was corrupted somehow on my system I
forwarded a copy of the original message with the attachment to
myself at this mail address (gmx) and it appeared exactly as it
should do.

Is it because the recipient is using the Apple Mailer or is it
something else that I've overlooked somewhere?

Any advice welcomed!

I'm puzzled though why this one attachment should have gone
wonkie as I have sent many plain text files in the same way to
others and they're always readable at the other end - my
attachments are always UUEncode. Could it be that Apple mailer
doesn't handle this very well?

I think we're talking about the same thing but in different ways
Thomas ;-)

TF Again:

TF Works = www.url.com

Yes it's in blue and is a hotlink and is immediately clickable

TF Doesn't work = [www.url.com]

Yes works but only if I highlight the bit between the [ ]
brackets in TB! then right click and select Open URL from the
menu. Is not in blue and is not a hotlink but TB! still
recognises it as an URL and offers the appropriate context menu
items.

TF The difference I am seeing that the first one is light-blue and
TF underlined in both TB's editor when I type it, and the viewer when I
TF read it. You should see the same.

Yes agreed I see the same.

TF On the first, I can click and it opens in the browser.

Yes agreed see above.

TF The second is just text and I would have to cp it into my
TF browser's address field.

Yes just text but no I don't have to copy/paste it as I said
above - just highlighting it in TB! invokes the context items
Open URL and Copy URL.

Having said that this list is archived and those archives are
searchable, so the answers to many v1.x problems will still be
available there.

Some info on v1.x is also available on the unofficial support
forum (see below) and there are no plans to delete that info at
this time just because many have upgraded to v2.x - there will
still be users who prefer to stay with v1.x and to whom that info
is relevant.

The forum will still offer support on v1.x even if some on this
list don't feel they wish to now they're using v2.x.
