Restoring theBat after hard drive failure.
As the result of a hard drive event sigh, I have had to replce my hard drive. The technician was able to extract, among other things all of theBat folders that are located in App Data, among them autobackup.bak. I have downloaded the v 5.2 .msi file, and I have on my own backup the The Bat! v5 Key Block. I assume that the steps are: 1. Execute the .msi file 2. Enter the license information 3. Invoke the restore prodedure that I have seen somewhere in theBat (where is it, exactly). Volila, all of my folders, including Inbox and Trash for all of the users will be restored. If I am missing something or way off base, please correct me. I do not want to do something or something in the wrong order and lose my theBat folder structure or lose messages, images, etc. Thank you. Leonard -- Leonard S. A few years back, I installed an anti-spam add-on, AntiSpam Sniper from Good Vein Software. I have installed theBat on a new computer and restored the backup there. Yes, this works for the problem that I stated originally, but creates a new problem. In the address book, if I hit the sheet of paper with the feather quill (Create a new message), the new message window opens up, but only with the address on the first line. It did not make any difference when I retained the comma at the end of the name on the first line. So the best method is to create a second entry. Reply not finding Reply Template (solved, I think)
I have previously posted notes asking for help with replies not finding the existing Reply Template. I received many responses with suggestions, but none of them made any difference. Of course, I am grateful for these numerous attempts to help me. I think the problem is that the incoming e-mail address has to match exactly the e-mail address in the address book entry. Now that may seem obvious, and it should have been to me. However, in several instances, I have placed two addresses, separated by a comma in the address book entry. Of course, the incoming e-mail could not be coming from both of those addresses, so the address book template was ignored. I have solved this problem, I believe, by creating a second address book entry, with only the second e-mail address and now keep only one address in each entry. Again my thanks to everyone who tried to help me during the past year. -- Leonard S. I get it with firefox more often. I raised the issue recently and didn't get a response. For me, under Vista Home Premium, I get it at all times, whether Bat starts first after a clean boot, whether I'm using IE, Chrome, or anything else. In fact, think I raised it just a couple days ago. Not a big deal, just takes up extra room on a crowded taskbar (at the top of screen for me) Dan, Do you think this is a Vista problem or an issue with TheBat!? With whom did you raise it? I use Vista Basic Business (or whatever it is called). When I upgraded to Vista, Home Premium was not possible for me. I forget the reason. Thanks. I don't think it is Vista related, since others have reported it here too. But can't swear what OS they're on. Maybe if others have it on non-Vista OS they could report it. But I don't see two PROCESSES in Task manager, just the display of the second button in the Taskbar. Task manager shows just one process named thebat.exe. Other programs do show multiple processes. For example, chrome.exe (which I've just made my default instead of IE7, despite a couple of shortcomings) shows five processes, even though I only have 3 tabs open. That's what I know as of now. dan can provide more details if anyone wants, such as the developers Same here: I see TheBat twice under applications and only once under processes. Two TheBat processes
I keep my computer running all the time and TheBat minimized. I see it as a process in the tray at the bottom of the screen.Recently, I have noticed two TheBat processes at the bottom of the screen. If I try to close either one, the other will be closed as well. Any ideas why the extra process? I normally use TheBat! 4.0.28.3, on Windows Vista 6.0 Build 6000, but I have use Gmail to post to the list. Thanks -- . Leonard S. Checking Gmail from TheBat Home edtion
Does one need to have TheBat Pro in order to check mail from Gmail? I have tried, very carefully, several times to set up a new sub-account so that I can check my Gmail account without having to log onto Gmail directly. It does not work. I followed the instructions in the settings location at Gmail where there is support for TheBat Pro, and that is what I followed, although there is some ambiguity about the user name (berkowitzls OR [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- I've tried it both ways). I have tried, one at a time, the various authentication options, and the different port options. Nothing seems to work. My signature below shows the version of TheBat I am currently using a result of an upgrade to day. Previously, the failures were on 4.0.24 Thanks. -- Leonard S. The Bat is essentially divided into two panes - left pane lists the accounts you have, right pane shows the messages. Look right down at the bottom left of your screen, you should see three tabs at least - 'All', 'Unread', 'Addresses'. Multiple address books
Is there a way for a secondary account to have a separate and distinct address book with its own templates even in the case of otherwise duplicate entries? The issue is that in templates for our friends, I hard-code my name, Lenny rather than using the macro %FROMFNAME so that when my wife uses her account her posts are also signed Lenny to mutual acquaintances. I see that there are sub-account global templates, and we have these set up, but the individual template take priority, as well they should. Thanks. -- Leonard S. Using individual templates
I have asked this question before, but have not received any helpful responses. Apologies in advance for asking again in the hope of solving this problem that vexes me considerably. When I reply to an e-mail note from someone whose e-mail address is in my Address Book, I expect that the reply template for that person will be used, if such a termplate exists. However, that is usually not the case; the account-level reply template is used instead. Why is this the case, and how can I prevent this.? Previous responses suggested that I may have more than a single Address Book entry for some persons, and this may be the cause of the confusion. My observations over time and repeated searches of my Address Book have demonstrated to my satisfaction that duplicate entries do not exist. One of the main reasons that I purchased The Bat is the richness of the template facility. If it is not working properly, I might just as well switch to Outlook that is included in Microsoft Office at no addition cost for purchase and for upgrades. Thanks. -- Leonard S.
