Re: [tw] [TW5] Inline Editing of fields

2013-11-07 Thread Stephan Hradek
Thanks for the hint, Vincent.

I'd still like to have the fields be editable. But additionally, being able
to edit parts of a tiddler inline would also help. But my focus is more to
TW5.

In order not to learn (too much) Klingon and not to have too much overhead,
I also thought about how this could be achieved. My idea is to have
something like this:

InlineEditor editButtons
So this is to include the Buttons which will allow editing.

And then you need to mark the editable blocks like so:
@@.editable
This is an editable text block.

2nd paragraph of the block
@@

Or you can even mark parts of a line as editable:
This is just one @@.editable
word
@@
which is editable

I updated my tiddlyspot http://skeeve.tiddlyspot.com/to show how the view
mode could look like. I choose pink as background just for illustration
puposes. Of course clicking the button doesn't do anything yet besides
switching the buttons. And I'm still using Javascript directly in the
onclick handler. But as long as I don't know any API, I don't want to put
too much effort in doing it properly ;)

Hi Bob, Julio

Thanks for these. I do really like Bob's original T+W+V symbol, even though
it does indeed cross over into being a bit of a riff on the letter shapes.
Julio's concept is also appealing - combining the letter shape thing with
the fish illustration is clever.

The collective creative process is interesting, and I look forward to more!

Re: [tw] Re: Tiddly Wiki Mascot

2013-11-07 Thread Jeremy Ruston
Hi Robert

These are terrific. The fish are alive and stylish, and there's a funky
kind of contemporary vibe that's instantly appealing. The variety of
species and orientations looks great.

(And for everyone else's benefit, Robert emailed me earlier in the summer
offering his services. He's an experienced, professional designer and very
kindly offered to undertake his full creative process for TiddlyWiki. I
repeated for Robert the remarks I've made before here about my own
particular thoughts/prejudices, and the constraints in terms of what we
might want to do with a logo. We ended up thinking more about mascots than
conventional logos, possibly as a result of my bringing in my old
tiddler=fish idea).

I don't know what kind of feedback is most useful; hopefully other people
will express their opinions too. I'd be interested to explore how to evoke
the feeling you get when you see a shoal of fish: the multiplicity of
smaller organisms acting as a single one. The detail in the fish
illustrations is terrific, and I wouldn't want to lose that; maybe one or
or more larger fish could be shown in front of a wall of tiddlers.

Many thanks for your work on this,

Best wishes

Jeremy

The problem you're having probably isn't directly related to the TiddyWiki
core version you're using. If I recall correctly, TiddlyLock works by
creating a 'lock file' in the same directory as the TiddlyWiki document
(for the first user to load the document), and then checking to see if that
lock file exists (for subsequent users). Unfortunately, this almost
certainly uses privileged local file I/O functions that are no longer
permitted by most browsers.

Sorry this response isn't more encouraging.

@Daniel Thanks for reporting back. You have the same set-up as the one I
tested on. I agree that messing with a policy file is unwanted, but without
a signed jar it's the only way. If all the TWs are in/below a single
directory, it only needs to be done once, if the above Oct 30th settings
(or similar) are used. I'm not sure anyone will want to retrograde their
Java install so I'm assuming there is little need for a signed jar right
now, given it won't work in 1.7.0_45. Hopefully Oracle will fix the bug.

having multiple tag columns as in your example? Keep in mind that the

No idea what could be wrong. At what point do you get the error, when you

And if the title start or end with a blank space the tiddler vanish The

[tw] Re: Auto close-all?

2013-11-07 Thread magev958

I'd like to have a checkbox to toggle tag1, tag2, tag3 all at once.

Not sure what you want exactly, do you want to assign or remove a number
of tags collectively? Based on what reasoning / logic? What is wrong with
having multiple tag columns as in your example? Keep in mind that the
tiddler you're talking about doesn't exist until you hit the submit button.

Just lazy I guess ;)
In my example the are 6 groups with up to 12 checkboxes in every group.
Often but not always a whole group or several groups have to be checked
together. Would be nice to only have to click 6 times instead of 40 times :D

I have also run in some strange problem.
It all work in my TW on my usb-stick but when I moved it (copy paste)
to the network-drive at work the script gives a error Identifier, string
or number is expected (translated from swedish). It still work from
usb-stick if I bring both up in windows next to each other but the
network-copy give an error?

No idea what could be wrong. At what point do you get the error, when you
open the form tiddler or when you try to submit, i.e. save the TiddlyWiki?

This error message shows directly when I open the tiddler. In the place the
script usually is hidden.

And if the title start or end with a blank space the tiddler vanish
The tiddler 'tiddlerTitle' doesn't yet exist. Double-click to create it.
But if I open the TW in Notepad its there!

Well, tiddler titles shouldn't start or end with blanks, afaic. Why would
they?

They shouldn't. It's mostly as a precation against error. The form is
geared toward old, not-so-computer-savy-old-ladies ;)

Re: [tw] Re: TW5 tip: Use fields for brief summaries of tiddlers

2013-11-07 Thread Jeremy Ruston

Not sure, I was thinking more in terms of using / extending the default
mechanism for adding / editing / removing fields so as to (somewhat
adaptively) allow for multiline content in a custom field.

Right. There is already a mechanism for a tiddler field to specify the type
attribute of the input element used to edit it. This is how the color
field gets its special editor:

https://github.com/Jermolene/TiddlyWiki5/blob/master/boot/boot.js#L725

I've just extended the mechanism to allow the element tag to be specified
in the same way, which would allow a field module to stipulate that a text
area be used by default for editing that field. I'll push the change
shortly.

Best wishes

Jeremy.

NestedSliders syntax eats the trailing newline that is needed by the

2) The slider buttons revealed the description (not the tiddler), rather

the same line next to the button.

Try this:

matchTags \n\n (moveable)

* Description marker (%5) moved into the slider label, so it will display
as TiddlerName - descriptive text
* tiddler macro used to show content inside slider panel
* Note use of evaluated parameter syntax with \ instead of just --

Excellent, thanks Eric,

That's nice! Everyone will want one of those.

I notice the slider text (%0 - %5) isn't wikified (i.e. the ~ symbol is
rendered) but I can live with that (I probably need to install your plugin
for removing automatic links from camelCase).

Now I just need to figure out how to make those sliders all the same width

The thing is, this does involve a bit of coding and I'm a bit reluctant to

I would certainly construct the tag table using javascript, that way you
can easily add the desired toggle all inputs into the table head cells

//first, determine the number of rows

cats.map(function(cat){

})

var r, c, cat, $td, $tr,
$table = $('table/').addClass('borderless smallTable table100').
appendTo(place),
$tbody = $('tbody/').appendTo($table),
//the function that toggles all tags for a category

//get all related tag inputs and set value to that of this

.appendto($tr);
jQuery('input/')
.text('all')
.attr('toggle','cat'+c)
.click(toggleAll)

//get tag definition and split by pipe
var t = cat[r].split('|');
$td = jQuery('td').appendTo($tr);
jQuery('input name =tags[] type=checkbox/')

Well, then you need to sanitize any potentially corrupt values in your *

//get title input
var $title = jQuery('the selector for the title input');
//set value to trimmed value, removing any blanks
$title.val($.trim($title.val());

Re: [tw] [TW5] Inline Editing of fields

2013-11-07 Thread Jeremy Ruston
Hi Stephan

As you already told me before Hangout #20, you know about this loose of
focus. Memorizing the field and refocussing after tiddler refresh won't
help, I fear. When a test input receives focus, usually the content gets
selected, if I'm not mistaken. So when you type a character, before the
next one, the text will be selected and the next character will delete that
selected part.

As Vincent notes, we can in fact remember the text selection in order to
restore it correctly. It's fiddly, but do-able. The tricky part is tracking
widget nodes across refresh cycles, because of the way that DOM nodes can
get recreated as part of the refresh cycle.

My idea would be, at least for my use case, to not update anything until
the done button is pressed.

In effect that is how TW5 already works. Edits happen live to the draft of
the tiddler, and then clicking done copies the draft over the original. So,
the actual edit isn't performed until you click done. We update the draft
live so that it can be synced to the server/localstorage for backup.

I'd like to explore that idea but I have no clue about any JavaScript API
offered by TW5 or whether there is any. I need to know how to retrieve and
store the field values.

There's quite a lot of dev documentation on five.tiddlywiki.com, and a
great deal of comments in the code.

I also like to know whether or not the change of a class in my posted
example can, for this case, be assumed safe? As long as the tiddler I'm
editing does not get refreshed, I don't see, at the moment, a problem.

The tiddler you're editing could get refreshed because of, say, an
unrelated change in the content of the story list. It's pretty fundamental
to TW5 that DOM nodes are dynamically created. It's just the same as modern
frameworks like Angular.

Another idea, how I thought I could achieve what I want, was something
like this: I need to create some Form Tiddler which defines the layout and
fields which are editable. This Form Tiddler then serves as the View and
Edit template at the same time. It should be possible to create a tiddler
with this Form Tiddler as its template. Clicking the EDIT button should
then simply offer to change the fields.

I'll reply separately to your later message about this part.

Best wishes

Jeremy

I hope I could explain what I mean!?

Re: [tw] [TW5] Inline Editing of fields

2013-11-07 Thread Jeremy Ruston
If I understand correctly, you're trying to switch fragments of a tiddler
into edit mode? That's not going to be easy. Because raw wikitext can be
generated by macro parameter expansion there isn't a straightforward
relationship between the tiddler source text and the text that the parser
sees.

Best wishes

Jeremy.

On Thu, Nov 7, 2013 at 8:14 AM, Stephan Hradek stephan.hra...@gmail.comwrote:

Thanks for the hint, Vincent.

I'd still like to have the fields be editable. But additionally, being
able to edit parts of a tiddler inline would also help. But my focus is
more to TW5.

In order not to learn (too much) Klingon and not to have too much
overhead, I also thought about how this could be achieved. My idea is to
have something like this:

InlineEditor editButtons
So this is to include the Buttons which will allow editing.

And then you need to mark the editable blocks like so:
@@.editable
This is an editable text block.

2nd paragraph of the block
@@

Or you can even mark parts of a line as editable:
This is just one @@.editable
word
@@
which is editable

I updated my tiddlyspot http://skeeve.tiddlyspot.com/to show how the
view mode could look like. I choose pink as background just for
illustration puposes. Of course clicking the button doesn't do anything yet
besides switching the buttons. And I'm still using Javascript directly in
the onclick handler. But as long as I don't know any API, I don't want to
put too much effort in doing it properly ;)

Re: [tw] [TW5] How to create a list of blocked or unblocked tasks?

2013-11-07 Thread Jeremy Ruston
Hi Arkady

I don't think it's currently possible to filter for your postponed tasks;
as discussed previously, we'd need a new filter operator that allows
comparisons.

Anyhow, this gives us tiddlers tagged task that are not done:

[tag[task]!tag[done]]

This gives us all the tiddlers tagged with tiddlers that are tagged task
that are not done:

[tag[task]!tag[done]tagging[]]

We can further filter for tiddlers that are themselves tasks:

[tag[task]!tag[done]tagging[]tag[task]]

Does that help?

Best wishes

Jeremy

My TW5 use case is a task management system. I find the $list widget
along with the ability to create custom fields very instrumental. I need a
filter for blocked tasks - tasks tagged with other tasks.

Concepts (nothing new - most borrowed from previous implementations such
as mGSD):
* A task is a tiddler tagged task.
* Complete tasks - tiddlers tagged task and done.
* Postponed tasks - tiddlers tagged task with start field set to some
date in the future. Postponed tasks replace ticklers in my system.
* Blocked tasks - tiddlers tagged task which are also tagged with
incomplete task tiddlers (tiddlers tagged task, but not done)
* Active tasks - filter=[tag[task]!tag[done]!has[draft.of]!has[start]] -
need to add a condition for unblocked tasks (tasks not tagged with other
incomplete tasks).

How can I ceate a filter for blocked and unblocked tasks?

This is also useful to select tasks that do not belong to any project -
tiddlers not tagged with tiddlers tagged project or projects that do not
belong to realms, areas, etc.

Is it possible to create such filters?

that creates a flurry of doesn't work reports. Do you feel I should
upload a signed jar for people to test that won't work in the next Java

Hello Tobi.
Thanks for your great support. Now the two plugins work wonderfull.
I can only recommend TagSearch for everybody with a systematic Set of Tags.

One Small wish is left. It would be wonderfull it was possible to set an
order in the pop-up.
For your usecase of tbGTD the current order which is produced by the
alphabetical order of the is very comfortable.
For those who don't want to add a prefix for readability reasons, it
would be a nice alternative to be able to order them in the TagSearchConfig.

Again Many thanks

As I would like to share the collection I am doing with other

I see, use tagging but only have it visible as needed.

the xplore-Tagging furnishes information which is especially
valuable while I am editing ( tiddlers linking and tagging to the
tiddler), so I would like to have the button to display it there.
Shall I post a feature request for these whishes?

I see, this makes sense. Whil I just added an issue here...

...it turns out you were not using the latest version of x-plore as

http://tbgtd.tiddlyspot.com/#x-plore

So, it looks like that version does work properly in EditMode.

I don't know whether TagSearch really works in my TW- The Span
called Typ you see on the left of the toolbar is still produces
by the the x-tagger-plugin, the button for TagSearch at the moment
is placed on the right of the Toolbar.

I see, mhhh. I have no idea why the *tagSearch* toolbar command fails
to find the handler. Perhaps you have some legacy CoreTweaks or such
installed that prevents the *tagSearch* toolbar command from working
properly?

I wanted to change to TagSearch because of the better
possibilities of configuration and because of the sticky behaviour
which would be very practical when meditating about a set of tags.

Sure. As a workaround, if I add this in the toolbar section in the
*ViewTemplate* of your *SmartTheme* it works fine...

span macro=tagsearch source:'TagSearchConfig##Tags' exclude: label:'tags▾' tooltip:'Set
tags by category' nomore toolbar/span

I have already tried to implement the Tag-Dropdown-Menu of
Delicious Tagging but it would not work-That ist to say it
produced a long field of all my tags. I thought it needs prefixes
to function correctly.

Actually, you don't need prefixes. All you should have to do is to
point to the tag category section such as
*TagSearchConfig##Tags* using something like this in a *zzConfig*...

config.macros.deliciousTagging.catList ='TagSearchConfig##Tags';

I've gone through phases of using IRC, but usually end up finding it a bit
distracting to have it constantly running in the background. Maybe it's

I sympathise with the documentation issues. My main aim at the moment is to
try to make five.tiddlywiki.com a readable, definitive reference for the
new stuff. Helping with documentation is one of the least glamorous but
most appreciated ways to help open source projects, if you're able to lend
a hand.

Re: [tw] [TW5] How to create a list of blocked or unblocked tasks?

Jeremy,

This is awesome! Thanks a lot!

Hi Arkady

I don't think it's currently possible to filter for your postponed tasks;
as discussed previously, we'd need a new filter operator that allows
comparisons.

I understand. For now, I created a list of postponed tasks grouped by
start date and delete the start field manually each day. To do that, I
customized the sameday.js filter to use start field instead of
modified and added the new filter as samestartday. Works for me.
Actually, moving tasks from postponed to active manually makes me
review them at the same time.

!Postponed Tasks
$list
filter=[!has[draft.of]tag[task]!tag[done]has[start]sort[start]eachday[start]]
itemClass=tw-menu-list-item
$view field=start format=date template=DDth MMM /br/
$list
filter=[!tag[done]samestartday{!!start}sort[created]!sort[priority]]
itemClass=tw-menu-list-subitem $checkbox tag=done
span style=color:red$view field=priority//span
$view field=title format=link/
/$checkboxbr/
/$list
/$list

Anyhow, this gives us tiddlers tagged task that are not done:

[tag[task]!tag[done]]

This gives us all the tiddlers tagged with tiddlers that are tagged task
that are not done:

[tag[task]!tag[done]tagging[]]

We can further filter for tiddlers that are themselves tasks:

[tag[task]!tag[done]tagging[]tag[task]]

Yess! This is exactly what I was looking for.

I don't quite understand how the tagging[] condition works. It looks
like filters preceeding the tagging[] apply to the tag tiddlers and
filters following tagging[] apply to the list tiddlers themselves. Is it
correct?

Thank you very much!

[tw] Re: TiddlyWiki Fundraising

2013-11-07 Thread Måns
Hi Eric

Great document.
I've had a very bad concience for a couple of years - because I really
wanted to contribute to your tip jar, however my personal economic
situation has been very bad too - and my own TiddlyWiki work hasn't really
given me any extra personal income - even if it has helped me a lot - both
professionally (I'm a teacher) and for personal (hobby) use.

Your writeup on how a little funding from one percent of the members
might be able to fund your work to a great extent - and how this document -
documents your never ending inclination to work for the community - if in
anyway financially possible - has made me become both a one time tipper
(25$) and setup a one-year pledge (gold: 30$ pr. month)...

Thanks for being there for all of us.

Great job!

Greetings TiddlyFriends!

real operating funds in order to maintain the systems, services, and people

Unfortunately, many open source projects are seriously underfunded, and
TiddlyWiki is no exception to that pattern. As Thanksgiving and the

To avoid the TL;DR effect (too long; didn't read) of a long online post,
I've written a TiddlyWiki Classic document that provides some background
information about the current funding situation and suggest some practical
goals for generating revenue through community funding strategies.

It's posted here: http://tiddlytools.github.com/fundraising.html

Please read this document at your earliest opportunity, and then make a

 that
reflects your own sense of the real-world value of the benefits that you've
actually received. Whether you can afford to donate just a small amount
every now and then, or make a regular monthly pledge or even a generous

The tagging filter replaces the currently accumulated tiddlers with any
tiddlers that they are tagging. I'm afraid it only makes sense with a
rather careful and specific reading the very similar English words tag,
tags, tagging, tagged etc.

 Thank you very much!

I'm glad it's making sense for you. If you're enjoying it I would encourage
you to spread the word as far as you can - TW5 needs the oxygen of

Many thanks,

Tiddlywiki is a great way to keep records of information with complex
relationships.

I have tried various flavors of MindMapping software - Freemind, XMind,
CMapTools, TheBrain. They are useful, but limited and tend to grow too
cumbersome as more functionality is added.

I also tried many different task management systems: Todoist, Google tasks,
task (a console text-based Linux application, very powerful, BTW), GTG,
Evolution, various Firefox add-ons. In most of them, it's difficult to
create links between tasks/projects/contexts/contacts/emails/files etc. I
like simple systems like hipster PDA which is just a stack of index
cards. But with index cards, planning projects is difficult. I can sort a
stack of cards by priority, but I cannot place same card into multiple
stacks grouped by contact/context/project. Linking an index card to
computer files or emails is, of course, difficult.

TW5 seems unsurpassed in its flexibility while using a very minimal
interface. It resembles a stack of index cards while allowing to group and
sort these cards as needed.

I do spread the word as much as I can.

Re: [tw] alternatives to IntelliTaggerPlugin ? TagSearch, x-plore: Great plugins, great Support.

2013-11-07 Thread Tobias Beer
Hi Jan,

Thanks for your great support. Now the two plugins work wonderfull.
I can only recommend TagSearch for everybody with a systematic Set of Tags.

Great news! ;-)

One Small wish is left. It would be wonderfull it was possible to set an
order in the pop-up.
For your usecase of tbGTD the current order which is produced by the
alphabetical order of the is very comfortable.
For those who don't want to add a prefix for readability reasons, it would
be a nice alternative to be able to order them in the TagSearchConfig.

This has been discussed by *PMario *a while ago. Personally, I don't see
that as a functionality of *TagSearchPlugin*. Instead, what you want in
order for a consistent experience is to *always* retrieve those tagging
tiddlers in your custom order whenever a plugin or the core asks for them,
i.e. also in the sidebar.

So what is needed is some code that hijacks *store.getTaggedTiddlers()* and
returns them based on some sort criteria rather than the current core
mechanism for that. I imagine there could be a *order.tagging* field at the
tiddler being the tag holding the information of all tiddlers that actually
have been ordered, with all new and unordered ones being put at the end.

There could be some UI in the EditTemplate. For starters, this field could
be all manual and populated with current tags when opening the tag in
EditMode. This means, that at the point where you want a custom order, your
tag definitely needs to become a tiddler and not just be a tag.

For example you the UI could show a number next to each tag...

[X] Tagging Order (Enable / Disable)

[1] Foo
[2] Bar
[3] Baz

Changing the number for *Bar* from 2 to 1 would resort the list and save
the *order.tagging *field as follows...

Bar Foo Baz

Saving changes to this field could be generally ignored so long as you have
not modified it yet, i.e. you don't care about defining a custom order. So,
hitting the enable / disable button would not only toggle a panel showing
the numbering but essentially remove the *order.tagging* field unless you
specifically want it.

Anyhow, this code is out of scope for *TagSearchPlugin *and should be
something for a new plugin perhaps called *TagOrderPlugin*.

Extending this functionality to tags via some *order.tags* field (and not
only *order.**tagging*) would also remedy the fact that, due to indexing
purposes, tags in TiddlySpace are always stored alphabetically, which
sometimes really is not what you want / need... and actually broke some of
the now outdated behaviour of *ColoredLinksPlugin *(being replaced by
*PaintrPlugin*).
