[Touch-packages] [Bug 1679706] [NEW] Autocomplete doesn't work with Crylic languages

Expected results:

The completed version of that word should be highlighted and inserted

Actual result:

Only the user's direct input is ever highlighted

I suspect this is an issue in the word distance calculation.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1677072] Re: Super shortcuts breaks application keyboard input

2017-03-28 Thread Michael Sheldon
The same issue can be triggered if you hold the super key to reveal the
launcher and then click on an application icon, or if you use any of the
super+1/2/3/etc. short cuts to launch an application.

** Summary changed:

- Super+A shortcut breaks application keyboard input

Title:
  Super shortcuts breaks application keyboard input

Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Pressing Super+A results in focus being taken from applications
  without the release key event being sent for the Super key. This means
  that when focus is restored to an application it believes that the
  Super key is permanently being held down unless the user presses it
  again.

  The effects of this can be seen in most applications that accept
  keyboard input, for example in the terminal cursor input stops working
  instead just inserting A/B/C/D characters, in the webbrowser keyboard
  shortcuts no longer work, in Kate cursor movement stops working, etc.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Run the following QML:

  import QtQuick 2.4
  import Ubuntu.Components 1.3

  MainView {

  property bool superPress: false
  focus: true

  Label {
  anchors.centerIn: parent
  text: "Super pressed? " + (superPress ? "True" : "False")
  }

  Keys.onPressed: {
  if (event.key == Qt.Key_Super_L) {
  superPress = true
  }
  }

  Keys.onReleased: {
  if (event.key == Qt.Key_Super_L) {
  superPress = false
  }
  }

  }

  2. Hold Super+A until the app drawer opens

  3. Click on the QML application to restore its focus

  Expected result:

  QML application should be showing: "Super pressed? False"

  Actual result:

  QML application shows: "Super pressed? True" because the release event
  was never sent to the application when the application drawer took
  focus.

Expected result:

Actual result:

QML application shows: "Super pressed? True" because the release event
was never sent to the application when the application drawer took
focus.

** Affects: unity8 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Description changed:

  Pressing Super+A results in focus being taken from applications without
  the release key event being sent for the Super key. This means that when
  focus is restored to an application it believes that the Super key is
  permanently being held down unless the user presses it again.

  1. Run the following QML:

  import QtQuick 2.4
  import Ubuntu.Components 1.3

  MainView {

- property bool superPress: false
- focus: true
+ property bool superPress: false
+ focus: true

- Label {
- anchors.centerIn: parent
- text: "Super pressed? " + (superPress ? "True" : "False")

- if (event.key == Qt.Key_Super_L) {
- superPress = true
- }
- }
+ Keys.onPressed: {
+ if (event.key == Qt.Key_Super_L) {

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1566172] Re: [SUGGESTION] Use the space bar for moving the text cursor

2017-03-23 Thread Michael Sheldon
Daniel - This is OSK specific, the final implementation of this doesn't
interfere with normal space input (it activates only on a long press on
the OSK's spacebar), there's a slightly old video of this functionality
in action here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FYbtyweMs8 (the visuals
and some of the movement thresholds have changed a bit since that video
was taken but the broad idea remains the same). It's currently in silo
2386 if you fancy playing with it yourself.

Bug description:
  I have an idea which maybe considered to be implemented.
  What if we use the space bar for moving the text cursor horizontally or even
vertically.
  Currently, moving the cursor is quite hard and inaccurate.
  Space bar is quite big and makes it a good place to swipe to move the cursor.
  With this approach, we're not using more space and instead use a big part of
the keyboard that is only there mostly for inserting spaces. The sensitivity is
critical though because you don't want unintended movement of the cursor but I
think it's very much doable.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1545714] Re: Add speech input, voice input, dictate function for keyboard

2017-02-17 Thread Michael Sheldon
The laptop I recorded that demo on has a high end i7, which was
operating at 100% on all 8 cores (it can work with much lower CPU usage
if CUDA is available though); so even when mobile processors get to an
equivalent performance level it'd be terrible for battery life. The only
exception would be if phones started shipping with CUDA capable
processors (nVidia do have some mobile oriented CUDA capable chips, but
they're not widely used at the moment). So unfortunately for the
foreseeable future the most practical solution for mobile systems is to
have a CUDA backed server processing requests remotely I'm afraid.

That video's just from a bit of experimentation in my free time; once
we've got the input method interface for snapd finished up I'm planning
on making it available for people to experiment with on the desktop, but
it's not really suitable for use on a phone. Any phone based solution is
likely to require some sort of cloud service providing the actual text-
to-speech processing.

  3. swipe keyboard back down after testing it works
  4. Turn on Bluetooth mouse to get a mouse cursor
  5. Click on password textfield

  OSK doesn't pop up, touch tapping on the field doesn't bring up the
  OSK anymore either.

  ie. The login screen is not usable with mouse connected - cannot type
  in password via OSK since it doesn't come up when clicking the
  password textfield with mouse.

  See attached screenshot. Focus on textfield. Would expect OSK to show
  up.

Bug description:
  I hesitated to file this bug for approx a week because none else
  seemed to report simillar issue, and felt like I was dealing with some
  weird edge case. But:

  When I connect to password protected wifi access point the network
  gets saved in System Settings / Wi-Fi / Previous Networks.

  Despite it being saved, it never seems to take any effect once
  disconnected form the saved network, and returning to it. It will ask
  me for password over and over again, and also save it over and over
  again under Wi-Fi/Previous networks, with the same name but suffixed
  with an ever increasing index. In the attached screen you can see "sd
  3" and "sd3 1" but it would go on and on to probably "sd3 99" and
  beyond.

  My phone is Meizu MX4. I was using r478 earlier today, which was
  already 2-3 updates through since I started seeing this problem, and
  it persisted. I reflashed my phone to some old double digit release (i
  think r79), and it worked. Then I updated, this time I was already
  directly updated to r480, which I am currently on, but the problem
  returned. The attached screen is taken under r480.

  Perhaps I am an isolated case, but I reproduced this problem even
  after reflashing and updating to recent release.

Bug description:
  On a phone running Ubuntu Touch, I would think, phone app is the
  absolute essential. It should even more so be ready for every user
  scenario. But it isn't. It does not support landscape mode.

  When in staged mode, it just simply ignores the landscape mode and
  forcefully displays itself vertically. Well, at least it can be used,
  so fine.

  However, when in windowed mode, you can no longer make use of this. I
  use my Ubuntu Touch phone mostly in landscape windowed mode. I cannot
  make phone calls, because I can't even see the "call" button (attached
  screen from my Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition).

  Now, regardless whether or not it is anticipated by Canonical that
  users will like me use Ubuntu Touch on the phone in landscape windowed
  mode, it just should be possible! And it's not a big deal either, make
  the UI a bit more responsive.

  OK, this is not a real bug, rather a characteristic. But one that can be
easily solved, thus I'd like to make a feature request.
  Especially in the landscape mode, the onscreen keyboard takes up a large
portion of the screen. Potentially it can overlap the window where the text is
being typed into, so you cannot see what you're typing.
  This could be VERY easily solved by letting users to set transparency level
for the entire onscreen keyboard. Attached is my concept of maliit keyboard at
70% opacity on Ubuntu Touch phone, in landscape windowed mode.

Bug description:
  Some apps can't find their main qml file. Error messages like:

  "file:///build/messaging-app-gcXPE6/messaging-
  app-0.1+16.04.20160831/src/qml/messaging-app.qml: File not found"

  (in my case, the file was in /snap/unity8-session/x24/usr/share
  /messaging-app/messaging-app.qml)

  Seems due to code like the following in config.h.in. Probably needs
  to consider the value of $SNAP or just be a little more forgiving.

  inline bool isRunningInstalled() {
  static bool installed = (QCoreApplication::applicationDirPath() ==

QDir(("@CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX@/@CMAKE_INSTALL_BINDIR@")).canonicalPath());
  return installed;
  }

  inline QString messagingAppDirectory() {
  if (isRunningInstalled()) {
  return QString("@CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX@/@MESSAGING_APP_DIR@/");
  } else {
  return QString("@CMAKE_SOURCE_DIR@/src/qml/");
  }
  }

  inline QString ubuntuPhonePluginPath() {
  if (isRunningInstalled()) {
  return QString::null;
  } else {
  return QString("@CMAKE_SOURCE_DIR@/");
  }

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1643536] Re: User can skip wizard by opening settings from the OSK

2016-11-21 Thread Michael Sheldon
We currently already disable the settings option when the greeter
reports itself as being active via the IsActive method on the
com.canonical.UnityGreeter dbus interface; if the wizard could provide
something similar we could incorporate that easily enough.

Title:
  User can skip wizard by opening settings from the OSK

Status in ubuntu-keyboard package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Environment:
  current build number: 24
  device name: frieza
  channel: ubuntu-touch/rc/bq-aquaris-pd.en
  last update: 2016-11-21 09:05:56
  version version: 24
  version ubuntu: 20161118
  version device: 20160809.0
  version custom: 20160831--42-26-vivid

  Steps to reproduce:

  1º Boot frieza and start wizard
  2º On Wi-Fi connection screen select a network
  3º When the keyboard shows up tap and hold the world icon to display text
options
  4º Notice that settings option is available, tap on it
  5º When it opens, cancel the wi-fi connection dialog and swipe from right
edge to show the spread

  Current result: user can skip wizard config

  Expected result: text entry settings shouldn't be available when
  wizard is running

  Add info: on krillin/rc this option isn't listed to avoid skipping the
  wizard. It is probably reproducible on frieza 64

#9  0x00449bbc in main (argc=1, argv=) at
/home/mike/src/udm/fix-1628635/tests/downloads/daemon/test_mms_download.cpp:97

This commit seems especially relevant: https://codereview.qt-
project.org/#/c/172173/

Neither this test, nor UDM itself make any explicit use of
QPluginLoader, so this is unlikely to be a case of UDM incorrectly
unloading a plugin itself.

To reproduce simply run UDM's test_mms_download test a number of times
(crashes only occur intermittently).

When tested with a silo without the three patches added for bug 1618590
this crash no-longer occurs.

A similar crash appears to be happening in webbrowser-app as well:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/webbrowser-app/+bug/1630765

Possibly another similar crash in ~QNetworkSession:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1572653] Re: keyboard does not show up on xenial

2016-09-23 Thread Michael Sheldon
Hi Kris,

 Your issue appears to be unrelated to this bug report (which relates
specifically to running the keyboard on an X11 desktop system); whereas
you're attempting to run an XMir application on the phone outside of
libertine, which isn't something we've tested much previously. Firstly
could you make sure you have maliit-inputcontext-gtk3 and maliit-
inputcontext-gtk2 installed, these provide GTK support for the OSK and
wouldn't be installed by default on the phone (except inside libertine
containers). If the problem still persists with those installed could
you file a separate bug report for this and we'll try to look into it
further

Thanks :)

  keyboard does not show up on xenial

Status in ubuntu-keyboard package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Expected behaviour:

  Install ubuntu-keyboard, run maliit-server, click on place to enter
  text -> keyboard shows up.

  What happens:

  Running maliit-server after installing ubuntu-keyboard-english in
  terminal shows following error:

  WARNING: void MIMPluginManagerPrivate::_q_setActiveSubView(const
  QString&, Maliit::HandlerState) "libubuntu-keyboard-plugin.so" "en" is
  not enabled

  Clicking on fields for entering text, does not cause the keyboard to
  show up.

  What I tried so far:

  export QT_IM_MODULE=Maliit
  export GTK_IM_MODULE=Maliit

  and

  gconftool-2 -s --type list --list-type string /maliit/onscreen/enabled
"[llibubuntu-keyboard-plugin.so,en_gb]"
  gconftool-2 -s --type list --list-type string /maliit/onscreen/active
"[libubuntu-keyboard-plugin.so,en_gb]"

  according to

  https://github.com/maliit/framework

  and

  https://github.com/maliit/plugins

  but it still won't show up.

  applications, currently download manager has a metadata property
  titled "showInIndicator", however this doesn't appear to have any

  content-hub involvement.

  This results in an inconsistent experience for the user, as some

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1578153] Re: No multitouch in qml app on BqM10

2016-09-10 Thread Michael Sheldon
I can reproduce this on the latest rc-proposed images with a number of
apps (Fingerpaint, Flight Of The Amazon Queen, Beneath A Steel Sky),
only one touch point gets sent through to the app for each of these;
they sometimes see two points if both fingers are pressed down at
exactly the same time, but no more than two points.

I'm adding unity8 into this as I suspect it might be related to the
handling of the side-stage three finger gesture, which only occurs on
tablet devices (explaining why it works fine on phones)

2016-09-09 Thread Michael Sheldon
Silo 57 (which is currently being reviewed) contains fixes for
translations, for bug 1411866, and the packaging error, but not the
jquery warning, as this is apparently the expected behaviour of Doxygen
based packages (see README.jquery in the doxygen package for details).
We've also synced up the bug lists and added a team subscriber for the
bugs. So as soon as silo 57 lands this should be ready to re-review.

  This needlessly risks quality: some bugs are only in one list, some
  people will know about only the other list, and even when a bug is in
  both lists they can have different importance levels, making it harder
  to tell what to work on next.

  For these reasons, Ubuntu Touch policy is to track bugs on packages, not
projects.
  <https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel/2013-November/037821.html>

  To fix this:
  1. Go through each bug reported on the project, and move it to the package.

change "Bugs are tracked:" to "Somewhere else".

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1288905

Title:
  Support Conditional GET

Status in ubuntu-download-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  It is possible to pass If-Modified-Since and ETag headers to an HTTP
  GET request; if the server believes that the file has not changed from
  the last download (where you got the Last-Modified and ETag data) then
  it will return a 304 Not Modified response.

  Ideally, therefore, it would be possible to do this with the Download
  Manager. That is, from QML, I do

  downloadmanager.download("http://example.org/somefile.txt;)

  and when that request completes I get the path of the downloaded file,
  but I also get the ETag and Last-Modified that the server supplied. I
  can then cache that ETag and Last-Modified. Later, I want to download
  that file again, *only if it's changed on the server*. So I call

  downloadmanager.download("http://example.org/somefile.txt;, {ETag:
  myCachedETag, LastModified: myCachedLastModified});

  The DLM sees that I supplied an etag and lastmodified, so it adds ETag
  and If-Modified-Since headers to the GET request. It also works out
  where it would download that file to, and looks to see if a file
  already exists at that path. If a file exists at that path, and the
  server returns 304 Not Modified to the HTTP request, then the DLM says
  "aha, the file hasn't changed, and there is already a download for
  this, so I shall assume that the file on disk is the file that I would
  have downloaded", and it returns *the existing file path* as the path
  of the download.

  If my app edits the file on disk, it is my app's responsibility to
  invalidate its cached ETag and LastModified values. If my app does not
  do that, then the DLM will not download a newer version of the file,
  but that's my own fault.

  Note that if I've deleted the file on disk, the DLM should ignore any
  passed etag/lastmodified data, because there's no disk file.

  This requires the DLM to make the ETag and Last Modified values from
  the response headers available to the calling app when a download
  completes.

  (For extra thought: perhaps if I pass ETag and LastModified I should
  also pass a file path of the file on disk? The DLM doesn't *read* that
  file, but it checks that it exists. That way we don't get problems
  with "file (1).txt" and so on.)
