[Trisquel-users] Virtual machine to use Brave, Epic & Tor browsers

2019-08-24 Thread foreign . mail

Hi,
on my notebook I currently use the Trisquel 8 operating system.

With Trisquel 8 I cannot install a VPN service.

For privacy reasons a few days ago I tried to install the 3 browsers below:
- www.epicbrowser.com and
- WWW.torproject.com.

As the 3 above privacy browsers are incompatible with the Trisquel operating
system, I have the idea to install a virtual machine on the Trisquel OS.

Please tell me;
1) is it possible to:
   - install www.virtualbox.org or www.whonix.org
   - install on the virtual machine a Linux system other than Trisquel and
   - install the 3 above privacy browsers?

2) if so, which Linux operating systems are compatible to install the Brave,
Epic

   Browser and Tor browsers?

Thanks!

Have a great week-end.

[Trisquel-users] Moving personal files from the folders to an USB key

2019-02-18 Thread foreign . mail

Hello everybody,
on my notebook I have the Trisquel 8.0 Operating System.

Yesterday I downloaded a PDF file from a website.

For security reasons I tried to move the PDF file from the Downloads folder
to a USB key by opening the Downloads folder, clicking the file => Edit =>
Move to => Other pane, Home Folder, Desktop.

As there is no option to move the file to an external device like a CD or an
USB key, how is it possible to copy personal files from the user Documents,
Downloads,... Folders to an USB key?

Thank you very much!

Hello,

If, for any reason, the preloaded Trisquel 8 Abrowser doesn't work, I use an

Do you know or have you already used these privacy-oriented browsers?

[Trisquel-users] Printer drivers compatible with Trisquel 7 operating system

2018-02-22 Thread foreign . mail

Two months ago I installed on my notebook Trisquel 7 as operating system.

I currently have a Canon PIXMA MG4250 printer; is there a printer driver
compatible with Trisquel 7 available for this printer or do I have to
purchase a new printer?

What are the portable printers compatible with Trisquel 7?

This to avoid purchasing a printer which is not compatible with the Trisquel
7 operating system.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

[Trisquel-users] Software updates on the Add/Remove Applications folder

2018-02-08 Thread foreign . mail
I just noticed from the "Switched to Linux" Youtube channel, that the new
LibreOffice 6 update is available.

When a libre software like LibreOffice available in the Trisquel Add/Remove
Applications folder is updated, does the updated software automatically
appear on the Trisquel Add/Remove Applications folder or do I download the
new software updates from other websites?

If, for instance on the notebook I have LibreOffice 5.4.4 and on the Trisquel
Add/Remove Applications the update is not available, is it OK to download the
new LibreOffice 6 software from www.libreoffice.org or from www.ninite.com?

Thanks for your advice.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 7 operating system and Windows based viruses

2018-01-24 Thread foreign . mail

Hello mason,
thank you very much for your response and advice.

To work on my notebook I need to install the Applications below:
-driver for printer,
-BleachBit
-Brasero
-ClamAV Antivirus
-Evince (PDF files reader)
-Kindle reader for Linux
-LibreOffice
-Marble (World maps)
-Stacer
-Translate Shell
-Waterfox browser and
-Wine (www.winehq.org)

I don't want to go to the local computer shop and say "Please install
Trisquel and the above software", when these software are already available
on the Trisquel operating system Add/Remove Applications list by default.

That's why I wish to know the list of Trisquel software that comes by
default, when I install the Trisquel operating system.

2018-01-24 Thread foreign . mail
Thank you very much to JabJabs, garfilth, onpon4 and Magic Banana for your
very important and priceless advice.

I really appreciate it.

onpon4 writes "Remember that any new software should be installed through the
software repository, and this is easily your greatest protection on a system
like Trisquel from malware".

Thanks for this information; if I need a software, I'll download it from the
Trisquel Add/Remove Applications list.

onpon4 also writes "In the case of LibreOffice, though, Trisquel already
comes with that by default."

Where is it possible to find the list of Trisquel software that comes by
default like i.e. LibreOffice?

This to avoid to install LibreOffice twice, when this software is already
provided on Trisquel by default.

A friend of mine has a Windows 7 based notebook, which extended support

As Windows 8 and Windows 10 are a privacy nightmare, my friend decided to
move from Windows 7 to Trisquel 7 and asked me the safest way to install and
use Trisquel 7 without the Windows operating system interference.

My friend asked me:
1.once I download Trisquel 7 on my notebook, should I copy all my files once
again on the Trisquel 7Home => Documents

  folder? and
2.I currently use LibreOffice 5.4, which is compatible either for Windows 7

Just to be clear and correct:
I NEVER said on this forum "I need help to install Comodo for Linux"; instead

Do you notice the difference?

So please be honest with what you say about others and don't invent things I
have never written on this forum.

Also thank you to the forum members bobstechsite and onpon4 for suggesting me

[Trisquel-users] Comodo antivirus for Linux

2018-01-19 Thread foreign . mail

Hello to all Trisquel Community,
I am new in the forum and New in town.

The only antivirus for Linux computers I know is Comodo Antivirus for Linux
as of the link below:

https://www.comodo.com/home/internet-security/antivirus-for-linux.php?track=8251

I have a few questions about the antivirus to use for the Trisquel 7
Operating System:

1)is Trisquel 7 a 32 bit or 64 bit system?,
2)which operating system do I have to choose to install Comodo Antivirus for
Linux on Trisquel 7? and

3)alternatively, are there other antiviruses to use for Trisquel 7?

If you check the "Choose your operating system" box of the above Comodo
weblink, you may choose the Ubuntu, Debian, Mint, Redhart Entreprise, Fedora,
CentOS, SUSE Linux Entreprice and OpenSUSE operating systems, but not
Trisquel 7.

Thanks!

I think there is 3 way for control my pc hard disk:
1. they download spy-programm using javascript in my pc while i use popular

2. hard disk have vulnerability.
3. all usb device like a usb-mouse and keyboard have vulnerability, example,

Hello, look my attachment. I want to delete all files in hard disk and then
install trisquel. Maybe you know gnu special utility. P.S I want to be sure
that my hard disk haven not got space. I wan to clear all disk and then
install trisquel again. After I allow javasript and use popular website with
javascript this guys can copy all files from my hard using spy-programm and
they can control all action. Default motherboard spy programm can not copy
all files from disk to internet but default motherboard spy programm have big
spy function too. Usually I reinstall trisquel again after I used javascript
website.

2016-11-14 Thread mail
Hello, my total disk space is 500 GB. I installed Trisquel but I see that my
total disk space is 20Gb. Why? I used different ways for installation like a
this: I created new table while I am installing Trisquel but it is not help
me. I think that hard disk contains vulnerability which help FBI control my
pc.

I want to clear all disk and install trisquel again. How to do clear all
disk, all tables in disk?
I installed trisquel 2 days ago again. Total disk space was next to 500GB.
But yestrday I see that total disk space 20 GB again. Look attachment.
Sometimes I installed trisquel 5 times a day.

I am not use libreboot for motherboard but i used trisquel, virtual keyboard
and I turned off JavaScript for browser.

p.s I use some popular english freelance website for job. In this website I'm
turning on javascript so only USA fbi can add viruses in my hard disk for spy
me or hard disk have vulnerability. I know that default motherboard can spy
keyboard action and process in pc. Governmental virus can be added in pc via
the Internet javasript from all websites. Then spy all user action like
browser links etc.
p.s I was two years ago the Communist Party but then went out, i know that
russia fbi spy me. They do not hide their actions because they sure that
socialism will no longer be. 60% of the russian budget is the sale of Russian
oil and gas to Europe. The average salary in Russia is $ 250 per month.

Re: [Trisquel-users] ESA: preserving old games is hacking and therefore illegal

2015-04-13 Thread mail

Alright, let's recap what's happened so far.
-leny stated that someone should be able to clone almost any 8/16-bit game
via the books on inventwithpython.com.
-onpon said that one shouldn't underestimate the difficulty that comes with
attempting a perfect clone of a game, because he has seen that fangames
tend to fail.
-onpon also gave his opinon on Pygame, and suggested alternatives that he
felt would be easier for beginners.
-leny wrote that the tagline so simple a kid can do it got him to recommend
iwp.com
-onpon responded, saying how he felt that Pygame was a horrid option for
novices, and presents personal experience.
-leny then defends Pygame with this long spheel about how difficulty is
relative, and that onpon has given no evidence to support his opinions. (You
know, other than personal experience, which is pretty much the best kind you
can bring into a discussion such as this)

-leny says that Pygame is high level because Python is high level.
-leny argues against onpon recommending Godot and such on the basis that easy
doesn't mean good. onpon presented what he saw to be easier alternatives to
Pygame **because** leny brought up Pygame because Pygame was so easy even a
kid can do it.

-Then blahalalala.
-onpon responds, leny responds.

My point is we're going off topic. Let's move the debate/discussion to the
Troll Hole, not this ESA thread.

And if my coding skills would be anywhere near good enough for driver reverse

And I mostly complained about the inability to read more about the
distribution- specific issues I had, because there is no Wiki and no
(obvious) forum search. Its honest feedback and can be done easily.
I did not complain about my Trisquel not being able to do stuff with my
graphics card - at all. I asked if one can work around that problem.

I know about licensing issues - things are bad.
But I'm surely not the enemy.

TLDR
Make a Wiki, put your manifest, guidelines, hardware support lists, etc. in
there and don't be bothered by the nasty complainers. It's already there,
people just need to be able to find it.

From your comment, banan it seems that the partition is mounted (I.E. you see
it in the file manager) and when you click it you can't open it, right?
You need to open a terminal and type in sudo nautilus, followed with your
password when it prompts you.
Then, a new file manager window will pop up. Now, the parition should be
somewhere in the /mnt/ folder (At the root directory), so navigate there, if
I'm not mistaken. If you can't find it there it could be in /media/root/ or
/media/(user/ for some reason.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Test and install Trisquel on any laptops without operating system

2015-02-28 Thread mail
The LiveUSBs have an install.exe to make the transition from Windows to
Trisquel easy, but that is a secondary function. The primary function of the
LiveUSBs is to install Trisquel by booting off of the USB directly from BIOS.

I'm pretty sure that restriction disqualifies it as free software.
Freedom 0- to run the program for any purpose. That's restricting freedom 1,
isn't it?

Re: [Trisquel-users] A company tracked 530 million mobile phones in Asia with drones

2015-02-24 Thread mail
Well, if you use a phone that has entirely free software, there won't be an
application to track you via battery, nor will there be ad-ware.

You could still be tracked via cell towers, though.

Replicant or the Neo900.

Not even every $100 you spend- only eligable AmazonSmile purchases have
0.5% donated, so it's probably more like 50 cents per $200 or so.

I had a fair amount of difficulty attempting to understand your question...
But I think you were asking how you can free your computer and phone?

There is no Android for iPhone in a working state, and Replicant is currently
impossible for iPhones.
You can install Trisquel on a fair amount of Mac computers, but there may be
a component that doesn't work, such as wifi.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Wa can change, but not in one day

2015-02-19 Thread mail
Market data just proves that selling proprietary software works, not that
it's the only way to make a profit off of software.
Non-free blobs? Not that I'm aware of. Doom 3 is Free Software, but the art
assets aren't. Art is nonfunctional data that isn't software.
And when did I say that you have to agree with me? You can believe that
proprietary software is fantastical for all I care.
I'll disagree with you, though- I am allowed to comment my viewpoint in
response to you, right? Or do I have to ask permission first?

Re: [Trisquel-users] Wa can change, but not in one day

2015-02-19 Thread mail
Exactly! Users want to be able to ring up someone and say Hey, my computer's
flupped up or Can you add this feature? but proprietary software doesn't
allow this.
They don't want a non-free system that's locked down, they just want a system
that works and is consumer friendly. Free Software is inherintly
comsumer-friendly, and allows them freedom as well.
And of course, developers don't develop non-free software to do harm (Mostly)
because they don't think they're doing harm.
You can make a fine profit whilist developing free software! Doom 3 BFG is a
fair example- the engine is Free Software, but the game assets are non-free,
which is alright with me- (Note that Trisquel supports free-culture. I think
free-culture is a nice thing, but it's not something I believe in wholly, so
I'm alright with non-free art assets and such).
ID Software released the engine for Doom 3 BFG 2 months after the game was
released and- shock- still made a profit! Huh, go figure!

And users use Free Software without realizing it- I commonly see people using
VLC, Firefox, etc, so you can't say that they *want* it to be locked down.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Wa can change, but not in one day

2015-02-19 Thread mail

Perhaps it has, but could you clarify how so?
There isn't any data that users want to be a non-free, locked-down system.
There's data that says Doom 3 BFG's source was released under the GPL, and
data that proves ID still made a profit, though.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Purism computer (possibly as free as FSF encourage)

It's FSF certified, Ruben is fantastical and has deblobbed the Ubuntu system.
Running vrms leads to it saying the system is clean.
Trisquel has been evaluated by many, many people.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Wa can change, but not in one day

2015-02-16 Thread mail

I don't understand your logic.
Running a DRM'd piece of proprietary software is the same as running a
non-DRM'd piece of proprietary software.
If you're going to use non-DRM'd games, you might as well indulge in DRM'd
games, and you might as well install Windows.
When you can justify that amount of proprietary software, you only go down a
road of further justifications. Canonical is a prime example of this road.

http://tep.shoutwiki.com/wiki/Software
That link has some great games on it, including Minetest, Katawa Shoujo, Doom
3, Dark Mod, Assault Cube, Red Eclipse...

Re: [Trisquel-users] Wa can change, but not in one day

2015-02-16 Thread mail
Again, Running a DRM'd piece of proprietary software is essentially the same
as running a non-DRM'd piece of proprietary software.

Either way, you're running proprietary software.
If you're going to use non-DRM'd games, you might as well indulge in DRM'd
games, and you might as well install Windows.
When you can justify that amount of proprietary software, you only go down a
