[twsocket] Wiki issue

2012-08-01 Thread Markus Humm
Hello,

I've looked something up in the wiki today and routinely (don't do much
ICS related work currently so routinely is months...) I look at the list
of latest changes to see how wiki progresses. (Has anybody not yet
ontributed? ;-) )

Now I saw that in the last few days 500 bogus user accounts with
seemingly random names have been created. Anybody noticed this already?
Does this do any harm? Are there any counter measures? (e.g. a log with
the IP of those creators and if it's the same IP maybe it can be traced
and at least a provide get informed)

This is for this time, but I'll most probably return with another thread
about TSmtpCli tonight...

Greetings

Markus

This has been noticed before. Bogus accounts get created all the time,
but you have to have permission to actually contribute. Those bogus
accounts therefore do not harm the system, apart from take up database
space.

Francois (and I believe some other senior developers) have the power to
grant you write rights if you would like to contribute to the Wiki :)

I searched the web with no luck to find a SQL statement to delete fake user

If anyone has some resource to share...

The difficulty is to delete only fake user and not the real users and

Actually, anyone can create an account, but this account is read only. So
maybe some robot created an account but was blocked because to write
something they would have to ask me for permission.

Hello Francois,

After observing your wiki with not much content for so long time, I have
come up with an idea. Why don't you open a use cases category where
developers can explain how they use ICS within their projects technically
and more fundemantally why they choose it. In return we should be given the
right to place links to our company web sites. If you look at our history
page at www.iqproxyserver.com/history.php , I have mentioned ICS there but
for technical writings your site is a better fit.

Re: [twsocket] Wiki (was BTW: Support for OpenSSL0.9.8nisavailable(ICS v7))

2010-05-23 Thread Zvonko Tesic

Hi François,

I was the one asking for access to wiki documentation writing access. My
username to the wiki is Phz.
Actually my question for writing documentation was in a block of text it was
not a specific standalone question - perhaps I could have written it like
that.

Anyway, I would start by reorganizing a title page a bit - for example I
would group Download under special group - Downloads rather than Access
to ICS documentation (this was a first obstacle for me for finding related
downloads) - I would add some additional notes regarding SSL libraries
static linking and SSL bug, we discussed here on the group and after these
initial changes I would start updating some components - in particular POP3,
which has no documentation whatsoever (but there is a bit of documentation
in now obsolete HLP file on the website which could be put into the wiki).

The main reason why I want to update docs is because I want to have it for
myself in one place (which would be wiki then) and you can review all the
changes but I doubt it will look worse after I'm done with it - it can only
look better :)

regards,
Zvonko

 Here are thoughts for you:

I agree with you, provided the automated subscription procedure was
spam-safe (against robots), it's possible to revert back to previous

However that's not mine but Francois' decision.

Hi,

I thought to add a change to the Wiki and the editing is ok but trying to
make a preview or save doesn't work. Clues anyone?

Regards, Fredrik.

AFAIK, all passwords are lost, I would send Francois a PM.

At least the password I use for my accounts are not lost. I don't see
anyreason to have other account password lost because they are all in the DB
along with the usercode.

If you forgot your password, you can ask to get a new one in the login page.
It will be emailed to the email you registered.

Do you have another computer to try with ? Maybe a browser setting has
changed ?
Can someone else do a slight change in a page and tell me if it work ?

I recall this happened to me before. I had created a new account and I
could log-in with it, but could not edit anything. It turned out that
new accounts do not automatically get write privileges. Luckily I had
another account to which Francois had given write access, but which I
had forgotten.

Perhaps Fredrik's account does not have write access?

He has access. But maybe it is like you: he has several accounts and do not
use the correct one.
Fredrik, email me directly with the account name you use and I'll check.

One harddisk failed in my PERSONAL computer and since the harddisk was gone
to the repair shop, I changed all MY password which included password to the
FTP and DB access to the wiki. This was in no way related to the wiki users
password which are stored in the wiki database. None of the user password
has been changed.

Arno, could you try a simple change in the wiki and confirm it works as

I agree! I see it as paying a little for the components by documenting
when I am doing some development with ICS-components. It's so easy to add a
couple of lines of code or some notes that are missing.

[twsocket] Wiki

2006-09-28 Thread Markus Humm
Hello,

the ICS Wiki is growing now, albeit slowly.
Some time ago some people on this support mailing
list have claimed they would like to donate something
(e.g. time) to the ICS project.

Why don't they donate some time, write Francois a e-mail
requesting a login to the wiki and help to fill it?

The problem with my entries is, that my time is limited
as well and that I am (regarding ICS) nearly at the end
of my knowledge.

= some of the people who know things better than me
should revise the things already written as well as create
new content. With revise I think more about extend and
provide those nasty details about possible pitfalls etc.
which will help many of us to save time and the supporters
on this mailing list to save work for more important things.

Even one Wiki-Entry per month would help!

Greetings

Markus

I registered myself and will try to help a little. What I noticed that it
might be needed to have seperate pages for the units. Since some units
contain functions that are quite useful and isn't available in a component.
I guess that there should be these block then: Overview, Components (links
to any components in that unit), Methods and then How to. What do you think?

Installation of ICS for BCB6-2006. In order for me to succeed in this, I
think there are a few issues left to be resolved.

SZ

I registered myself and will try to help a little. What I noticed that it
might be needed to have seperate pages for the units. Since some units
contain functions that are quite useful and isn't available in a
 component.
I guess that there should be these block then: Overview, Components (links
to any components in that unit), Methods and then How to. What do you
 think?

 Regards, Fredrik.

[twsocket] [Wiki] Still need some author

2006-03-13 Thread Francois PIETTE
You not have noticed yet that there is now a wiki devoted to ICS
documentation: http://wiki.overbyte.be.
This wiki has been setup by a number of ICS fans. Some of them already wrote
a number of interesting articles (Arno, Guillaume, Wilfried and others). We
are seeking for more people to help filling the wiki with more informations.

The first task is simply to add the list of properties, methods and events
for each component.
You can find the list of component at
http://wiki.overbyte.be/wiki/index.php/ICS_Components_Reference
And you can find a component with his list completed:
http://wiki.overbyte.be/wiki/index.php/THttpCli
Many component are not documented at all.

The task is more or less easy for everyone. No need to have special
knowledge in ICS. Just able to read source code to find the properties,
methods and events. If you don't know what they are, let the description
empty ! Someone else will fill it. There is also an old ICS help file which
has many things already documented. You can copy/paste (well some editing
needed).

If you want to help, create yourself a login and then contact me by email to
get write permission (of course as anyone can create an account, it is by
default read-only).

Thanks in advance !

And if you just like to correct a single typo, subscribe, any help
is appreciated. The wiki is intended to be an online help written by
users for users. You do not need to do a lot just do as much as you like.
