[twsocket] Wiki issue
Hello, I've looked something up in the wiki today and routinely (don't do much ICS related work currently so routinely is months...) I look at the list of latest changes to see how wiki progresses. (Has anybody not yet ontributed? ;-) ) Now I saw that in the last few days 500 bogus user accounts with seemingly random names have been created. Anybody noticed this already? Does this do any harm? Are there any counter measures? (e.g. a log with the IP of those creators and if it's the same IP maybe it can be traced and at least a provide get informed) This is for this time, but I'll most probably return with another thread about TSmtpCli tonight... Re: [twsocket] Wiki issue
This has been noticed before. Bogus accounts get created all the time, but you have to have permission to actually contribute. Those bogus accounts therefore do not harm the system, apart from take up database space. Francois (and I believe some other senior developers) have the power to grant you write rights if you would like to contribute to the Wiki :) Lester On 01/08/2012 18:40, Markus Humm wrote: Hello, I've looked something up in the wiki today and routinely (don't do much ICS related work currently so routinely is months...) OK, I searched (briefly) for some mal content via FTP with no success. Good news ! Just wonder why those get logged when you have to send a request to Francois first in order to get an account? Actually, anyone can create an account, but this account is read only. Re: [twsocket] Wiki (was BTW: Support for OpenSSL0.9.8nisavailable(ICS v7))
Hi François, I was the one asking for access to wiki documentation writing access. My username to the wiki is Phz. Actually my question for writing documentation was in a block of text it was not a specific standalone question - perhaps I could have written it like that. Anyway, I would start by reorganizing a title page a bit - for example I would group Download under special group - Downloads rather than Access to ICS documentation (this was a first obstacle for me for finding related downloads) - I would add some additional notes regarding SSL libraries static linking and SSL bug, we discussed here on the group and after these initial changes I would start updating some components - in particular POP3, which has no documentation whatsoever (but there is a bit of documentation in now obsolete HLP file on the website which could be put into the wiki). The main reason why I want to update docs is because I want to have it for myself in one place (which would be wiki then) and you can review all the changes but I doubt it will look worse after I'm done with it - it can only look better :) regards, Zvonko - Original Message - From: Francois PIETTE francois.pie...@skynet.be To: ICS support mailing twsocket@elists.org Sent: Sunday, May 23, 2010 9:36 AM Subject: Re: [twsocket] Wiki (was BTW: Support for OpenSSL0.9.8nisavailable(ICS v7)) - I already wrote to Francois and got no reply (I know I can remind him again, but how encouraging is that?) [twsocket] Wiki
Hello, the ICS Wiki is growing now, albeit slowly. Some time ago some people on this support mailing list have claimed they would like to donate something (e.g. time) to the ICS project. Why don't they donate some time, write Francois a e-mail requesting a login to the wiki and help to fill it? The problem with my entries is, that my time is limited as well and that I am (regarding ICS) nearly at the end of my knowledge. = some of the people who know things better than me should revise the things already written as well as create new content. With revise I think more about extend and provide those nasty details about possible pitfalls etc. which will help many of us to save time and the supporters on this mailing list to save work for more important things. Even one Wiki-Entry per month would help! I registered myself and will try to help a little. What I noticed that it might be needed to have seperate pages for the units. Since some units contain functions that are quite useful and isn't available in a component. I guess that there should be these block then: Overview, Components (links to any components in that unit), Methods and then How to. What do you think? You not have noticed yet that there is now a wiki devoted to ICS documentation: http://wiki.overbyte.be. This wiki has been setup by a number of ICS fans. Some of them already wrote a number of interesting articles (Arno, Guillaume, Wilfried and others). We are seeking for more people to help filling the wiki with more informations. The first task is simply to add the list of properties, methods and events for each component. You can find the list of component at http://wiki.overbyte.be/wiki/index.php/ICS_Components_Reference And you can find a component with his list completed: http://wiki.overbyte.be/wiki/index.php/THttpCli Many component are not documented at all. The task is more or less easy for everyone. No need to have special knowledge in ICS. Just able to read source code to find the properties, methods and events. If you don't know what they are, let the description empty ! Someone else will fill it. There is also an old ICS help file which has many things already documented. You can copy/paste (well some editing needed).
