Ah indeed removing timidity (package timidity-daemon) fixed the issue.

Thanks for your really quick feedback.

[Bug 1912933] [NEW] Pulseaudio dummy output after upgrade to 20.04

2021-01-24 Thread Aurélien COUDERC
Public bug reported:

I just upgraded a working system from an up-to-date 18.04.5 installation
to 20.04.1 and lost sound in the process.

The upgrade itself was uneventful but now Pulseaudio lists the dreaded
dummy output as the only available sound card.

Alsa correctly sees the card as Card: HDA Intel PCH, Chip: VIA VT1708S
in alsamixer for example.

I’m marking this bug as fixed.

Feel free to reopen with more recent information if you can still
reproduce this bug.

2019-12-12 Thread Aurélien COUDERC
Hi Jan,

thanks for taking the time to report this bug.
The bug was against old and now unsupported versions of Ubuntu and ktouch.

Would you have the possibility to test against a more recent version.
I haven’t seen this bug myself and I wouldn’t be surprised if it had been fixed
in the meantime.

Now that #1790955 has been fixed, if you could test with version

[Bug 1790955] Re: ktouch is missing a dependency on sqlite

2019-12-08 Thread Aurélien COUDERC
Hi Hermann,

I confirm this issue exists and is solved by adding the
libqt5sql5-sqlite dependency.

I’ve fixed the package in Debian version 19.08.3-2 so it will reach
Ubuntu / Mint at least after the next Debian sync.

[Bug 1756754] Re: package grub-pc 2.02-2ubuntu8 failed to install/upgrade: installed grub-pc package post-installation script subprocess was killed by signal (Aborted)

2018-05-14 Thread Aurélien COUDERC
No it’s not, it was working fine on xenial and it’s working fine on
bionic again since the upgrade.

You’re free to set the bug to any status you like but your comment is
not helpful and makes me wonder whether you even read the initial
description.

Well off with this, the bug was an upgrade bug and the upgrade is now
done.

Not that I've done anything more fancy than update-manager -d…
Specifically not played with the pid 1 defaults that I can remember.

[Bug 1756754] [NEW] package grub-pc 2.02-2ubuntu8 failed to install/upgrade: installed grub-pc package post-installation script subprocess was killed by signal (Aborted)

2018-03-18 Thread Aurélien COUDERC
Public bug reported:

The upgrade of grub failed during upgrade from xenial to bionic.

During the upgrade process I was presented a graphical debconf window with the
devices to install grub on, but the elements in the list (sda and sda1) didn't
have the checkboxes they were supposed to have to select either of these.
I still clicked next and got the warning that I was not going to install grub,
then clicked next again and it cycled to the initial window.

In the end I closed the window and the upgrade continued.
Later in the upgrade process I was presented with the grub device choice again,
and this time it was functional.

I think I remember seeing gtk / gdk warnings so I think something in the
toolkit stack was broken the moment debconf tried to make me choose a
grub device.

I can see 2 bugs :
- The broken / non functional debconf window at some point in the upgrade
process.
- Why did I have to get this question in the first place for the upgrade ?

[Bug 1530744] Re: package desktop-base failed to upgrade

But after checking the package details the file is really shipped as part of
the package.
See :

Also seeing that and it only happened once I'm tempted to mark it as Invalid.

This is fixed in Debian Stretch’s versions of desktop-base 9.0.x.
We stop shipping this file, so it won’t bother plasma-active-default-settings

[Bug 1156871] Re: package desktop-base 6.0.7ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2017-01-26 Thread Aurélien COUDERC
Hi,

thank you for taking the time to report this bug.
Looking at system logs there are traces of disk errors :
[ 480.389270] EXT4-fs (sdb2): error count: 1
[ 480.389280] EXT4-fs (sdb2): initial error at 1350744167:

__ext4_get_inode_loc:3676: inode 12976670: block 51904577

I’d be tempted to say it’s a hardware / filesystem issue and not a
problem in desktop-base.

I’m closing it for now, but feel free to reopen if you can reproduce this bug.
In this case additional logs like the contents of /var/log/apt/term.log would
be welcome.

Cheers,

Hi,

this was actually a bug in initramfs / gdm, see in dpkg logs :
/etc/initramfs-tools/update-initramfs.conf: 1: gdm-simple-slave[1118]:: not

desktop-based triggered the error because it calls update-initramfs

/etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme: line 17: [...]: command not found

I’m closing it now since it was raised against a much older Ubuntu version.
Feel free to open another bug if it still happens on current releases upgrade.

[Bug 1278280] Re: ubuntu-release-upgrader crashes with DistUpgrade/sourceslist.py, line 416, in save : UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode characters in position 97-114: ordinal not in ran

2014-03-10 Thread Aurélien COUDERC
Yes, this happens when there are non-ascii character in one of the apt
sources files.

…which must be very common because the disabled sources comment added by
the release upgrade process is localized !

For example in French, the following was added to all my
sources.list.d/*.list.distUpgrade during former upgrades :
désactivé pour la mise à niveau vers raring désactivé pour la mise à niveau
vers saucy
(which translates to something like « disable for raring uprgade disabled for
saucy upgrade »)

This gives us a clue that this bug is a regression from the Trusty cycle.
The raring - saucy upgrade did work eventhough there were already non-ascii
characters in sources files.

[Bug 1163720] [NEW] Brightness control broken on XPS13 with 3.8.0-16

2013-04-03 Thread Aurélien COUDERC
Public bug reported:

Since 3.8.0-16, the brightness control doesn’t work anymore.
The popup is displayed, so the shortcut keys do work correctly, but it has no
effect on the actual brightness of the screen.

Switching back to 3.8.0-15 solves the issue.

[Bug 1123403] Re: Installer is blocked by UEFI Secure Boot

2013-03-06 Thread Aurélien COUDERC
Hi, I have the same problem with my Asus R500V (K55VD).

The 20130305 daily live for raring doesn’t boot either.

There was no need to swich to legacy bios for me, just switching secure
boot on and off makes the live fail or boot.

[Bug 1123403] Re: Installer is blocked by UEFI Secure Boot

2013-03-06 Thread Aurélien COUDERC
For the sake of completeness I've tested the last upstream kernel (currently
3.8.2-raring), but it doesn't change anything.
The secure boot blocks with the Invalid signature detected message while
loading grub AFAICT, so before loading any particular kernel.

With secure boot disabled both the current 12.10 kernel and 3.8.2-raring
boot correctly.

The grub version installed by the 12.10 live installer is the EFI version as
expected:
user@machine:~$ dpkg --get-selections | grep grub
grub-common install
grub-efiinstall
grub-efi-amd64 install
grub-efi-amd64-bin install
grub2-commoninstall

[Bug 1088014] [NEW] Hard freeze on Quantal with Core i3-3240

2012-12-08 Thread Aurélien COUDERC
Public bug reported:

I'm having regular system freezes with Ubuntu 12.10 and a Core i3-3240.

status wait timed out

I've disabled RC6 with i915.i915_enable_rc6=0 kernel parameter, the the
freezes seem to be gone so far.

Agreed, for non-techie users it’s going to break their systems in a way
they can’t fix (neither Unity nor Unity 2D work with the broken libGL).

different keyboard layouts.

[Bug 868925] [NEW] DNDing window from maximized to half-screen loses title bar

2011-10-06 Thread Aurélien COUDERC
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce :
- Maximize window
- Click and hold the top title/menu bar
- Drop in one of the top corners
(This last step requires that the mouse cursor leaves the top bar while DNDing,
otherwise you won’t be proposed the half-screen window.)

Now you have a half-screen window with no title bar (screenshot
attached).

[Bug 855156] [NEW] [oneiric] gnome-control-center shown as a Displays icon in launcher

2011-09-20 Thread Aurélien COUDERC
Public bug reported:

When launched from the session indicator - System settings…,
gnome-control-center is shown in the launcher as the « Displays » icon
(screenshot).
If you happen to have pinned the Displays icon to your launcher, the icon gets
the left arrow marker for the gnome-control-center being opened.

When launched with Alt-F2 - gnome-control-center, it gets the «
Appearance » icon which I’m not sure is better either.

** Affects: unity (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 853518] [NEW] Upgrading to oneiric changed default applications

2011-09-18 Thread Aurélien COUDERC
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to oneiric, I noticed the default web browser is now
Chromium, and the default media player Amarok, as shown in Unity’s dash.

Before the upgrade I used to have Firefox and Banshee as defaults, and I
don’t think this is the expected behaviour.

[Bug 850448] Re: Drag drop of KDE application icons to launcher broken

2011-09-16 Thread Aurélien COUDERC
Can’t reproduce, you may close.
Maybe I was confused because you don’t get any feedback when trying to add an
application that’s already somwhere in the launcher.
