[Bug 1833116] Re: chtmax98090 not working out of the box

2020-03-30 Thread Dylan Taylor
Having the same issue on a Lenovo N20 "Clapper" Chromebook. Applying the
Git patch crashes PulseAudio for me as well. Can't get any sound to play
at all from the built-in speakers.

[Bug 1869820] [NEW] Missing dependency: gnome-shell-extension-prefs

2020-03-30 Thread Dylan Taylor
Public bug reported:

Dash to Dock settings does not work on a stock Ubuntu 20.04 (Focal)
installation. If you right click the "Show Applications", click
settings, it'll trigger an error indicating gnome-shell-extension-prefs
is missing. Installing this package resolves the issue. This package
should be a dependency of gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock.

[Bug 1767527] Re: [18.04] Installation boot failure. WARNING: invalid line in /etc/crypttab

2018-04-28 Thread Dylan Taylor
TJ, some new information - this is a regression. Trying the EXACT same
install path with the "complex" passphrase I usually use on an old
bionic "daily" build worked perfectly. I was able to boot into the
system and setup my applications. I'd rather not wipe it right now, but
something broke between the official 18.04 build and this one:

[Bug 1767527] Re: [18.04] Installation boot failure. WARNING: invalid line in /etc/crypttab

2018-04-28 Thread Dylan Taylor
Once I was into the system, I ran "sudo apt clean all; sudo apt update;
sudo apt -y full-upgrade", which completed successfully. Upon reboot,
everything still worked. It seems to be part of the setup process itself
that is broken.

[Bug 974480] Re: Notification area whitelist is obsolete

2013-02-08 Thread Dylan Taylor
Wow, I can't thank you guys enough for _completely breaking AutoKey_, as
well as several other legacy applications that will probably never add
AppIndicator support. There is no way that this bug was making managing
the code more difficult, but it definitely will be a burden to people
who rely on applications withot AppIndicator support.

[Bug 1090827] Re: [REGRESSION] Ethernet is broken in kernels 3.7.05 and newer in Ubuntu 13.04

2012-12-19 Thread Dylan Taylor
After completely wiping my SSD (backing up my /home to my 1.5TB
external), installing 12.10 from scratch, installing all updates in
that, upgrading to 13.04, installing all updates in that, and then
installing the nvidia-current driver, everything works perfectly again.
It was broken on my old install, but using the new install it works.
That's rather odd. I'm going to go ahead and say this bug is likely
invalid due to the fact that it's now a non-issue. Not sure what
triggered the problem in the first place. Testing took place with both
Wireless and Bluetooth enabled (which were the triggers of the problem
previously).

2012-12-18 Thread Dylan Taylor
It might get a little difficult to tell which version is which when
booting my system with all of these long names, but I'd be willing to
test out a few different kernels for you. I think it would be easier to
just pull a kernel with the bug fixed into 13.04, but I'll try out these
kernels anyways.

[Bug 1090827] Re: [REGRESSION] Ethernet is broken in kernels 3.7.05 and newer in Ubuntu 13.04

2012-12-18 Thread Dylan Taylor
The bug exists in rc7, but unlike rc2, the Unity desktop actually works,
and my graphics display. In addition to the networking not working in
rc7, my mouse and keyboard inputs do not work once I reach the desktop.
In fact, I had to press the power button and wait 60 seconds for it to
automatically shut down since I couldn't select the shutdown option on-
screen. So, it's broken in rc7 as well, but with rc7, at least my
graphics work properly. I was using the left alt key to move windows
around, and terminal to lauch apps in rc2 because of that problem, which
easily became incredibly frustrating.

I'm assuming that you want me to find the release candidate which
introduced the bug. I'm going to go ahead and test out rc6 ... rc3 and
post a report for each one. That should help you figure out which commit
was problematic.

2012-12-18 Thread Dylan Taylor
rc3, rc4, rc5 and rc6 behave exactly like rc7, with graphics working and
no mouse/keyboard input what-so-ever. Not even alt-sysrq-b works. I can
tell that networking is still broken because the network monitor says
Disconnected, you are offline.. I installed all of the packages for
each kernel. It would seem that a commit in between rc2 and rc3 broke
it. The lack of input is also extremely annoying, as I can't easily
check dmesg.

2012-12-18 Thread Dylan Taylor
Oddly enough, after installing those other kernels, the behavior
exhibited by 3.7.05 as originally reported is now occurring with rc2. I
think there may be something wrong with my installation as my results
are inconsistent. Input devices, however, only work with rc2. They are
broken with anything after that. I am very confused right now... I think
I might reinstall 12.10, upgrade to 13.04, install all updates, and then
see if the bugs are still present. I'll probably do that tomorrow when I
have some free time. I have to get work done tonight.

[Bug 1090827] Re: [REGRESSION] Ethernet is broken in kernels 3.7.05 and newer in Ubuntu 13.04

2012-12-17 Thread Dylan Taylor
It's fixed when using the linux-
image-3.7.0-030700-generic_3.7.0-030700.201212102335_amd64.deb package.
Unfortunately, this new kernel breaks Unity because I'm using the
proprietary graphics driver for my Nvidia GeForce GTX 580. :( However,
installing the linux-image, linux-headers, and linux-image-extras
packages did, in fact, fix my networking problem.

[Bug 1090827] [NEW] [REGRESSION] Ethernet is broken in kernels 3.7.05 and newer in Ubuntu 13.04

2012-12-15 Thread Dylan Taylor
Public bug reported:

On my system, with an ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe motherboard, I had to go into
the BIOS and disable bluetooth and wifi to restore any form of
networking what-so-ever. There was a crash of some sort reported in the
dmesg logs, and running ifconfig would hang my terminal. I managed to
chroot into my install using a KUbuntu live cd and install all updates
via 'apt-get update apt-get upgrade', and this is still an issue.
Attached is a dmesg log I manually obtained.

[Bug 1054282] Re: No obvious way to restrict shopping suggestions from displaying adult products

All adult listings should be banned by default. Think of school children
that use Ubuntu. I don't mind on my personal computer in my home, but if
I'm using my laptop in public, and sex products show up on my screen

[Bug 760313] Re: [STAGING] Pressing the wireless toggle button on an HP ProBook 4520s freezes the system

I'm now running Mint 12 on the system, and without using proprietary

[Bug 970581] [NEW] [FIX] AutoKey (GTK) is not useable by default in Ubuntu 12.04

2012-03-31 Thread Dylan Taylor
Public bug reported:

By default, AutoKey does not work with Ubuntu 12.04 because it is not present
in the Unity Panel whitelist. By default, the Unity panel whilelist is set to
['JavaEmbeddedFrame', 'Wine', 'Update-notifier']. In order for certain
applications, such as Desura and AutoKey to work properly, they need to be
added to this whitelist, otherwise they will not function properly at all. The
whitelist can be retrieved using gsettings get com.canonical.Unity.Panel
systray-whitelist, reset to it's default value with gsettings reset
com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist, and set using gsettings set
com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist. Because this application doesn't
provide any functionality at all without system tray functionality, it is
necessary to manually append 'Autokey' to the whitelist. This can be fixed by
modifying the package to update the whitelist on installation time to append
the necessary value to the whitelist. Just running gsettings set
com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist ['Autokey'] fixes the problem with
Autokey, but causes issues with other programs. The issue can be resolved by
running a single command I wrote upon installation, which checks if Autokey is
already in the panel whitelist and adds it if it isn't. It may also be worth
running the command upon execution of Autokey in case the whitelist has been
modified by another program and Autokey has been removed. I attached a batch
script to do this as a patch, although the command is as follows:
if grep -q 'Autokey' (echo `gsettings get com.canonical.Unity.Panel
systray-whitelist`); then echo 'Autokey' exists in Unity panel whitelist.
Nothing to do here.; else echo Adding 'Autokey' to Unity panel whitelist.
gsettings set com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist `echo \`gsettings
get com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist | tr -d ]\`,\'Autokey\']`; fi

Update: For anybody else who experiences this issue after updating to
11.04, the fix is to delete the folder ~/.gstreamer-0.10. After doing
that, the issue should be fixed immediately without a need to logout or
reboot your system. It would appear that the problem was a corrupt
gstreamer configuration. Perhaps the error messages could be modified to
make this more apparent?

point where pressing Alt+SysRq+B will not reboot the system.

[Bug 760322] [NEW] Video freezes when playing fullscreen OpenGL games on HP ProBook 4520s

2011-04-13 Thread Dylan Taylor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

When I open a fullscreen game on my HP ProBook 4520s (tested with
OpenArena and Nexuiz), the sound and the input work fine, but the video
freezes almost immediately, and does not unfreeze. I am able to switch
to a different console using Ctrl+Alt+F1, and run killall -9 nexuiz,
which stops the sound and the input, and closes nexuiz, but the video is
still frozen at a blank screen. Pressing Alt+SysRq+K brings me back to
the login screen and allows me to continue using my computer.

2011-04-13 Thread Dylan Taylor
I just discovered that running metacity --replace prior to launching
the game allows the game to run without any problems. Also, the reason
this is reported as a fullscreen bug only is because Neverball worked
just fine in windowed mode without changing the window manager to
metacity.

[Bug 759331] [NEW] Right-clicking doesn't work on HP ProBook 4520s using trackpad

2011-04-12 Thread Dylan Taylor
Public bug reported:

Right-clicking doesn't work at all in Ubuntu 10.10 or 11.04 when using
the built-in trackpad on the HP ProBook 4520s. When I plugged in my HP
MG-0133 wireless mouse, everything worked perfectly fine, but the
trackpad would not recognize any right clicks. This is a very annoying
bug, and I didn't know what package to file this under, so it's filed
under linux, even though that's almost certainly incorrect.

[Bug 670024] [NEW] [FIX] Could not open transmission - error while loading shared libraries: libappindicator.so.0

2010-11-02 Thread Dylan Taylor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: transmission

I was no longer able to open my Transmission BitTorrent client after installing
updates on my Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit computer. The error message I get while
trying to open Transmission on the terminal is: transmission: error while
loading shared libraries: libappindicator.so.0: cannot open shared object file:
No such file or directory. I tried several things to fix this and it still
would not open. Commands I have tried before reporting this bug include:
* sudo apt-get update  sudo apt-get upgrade
* sudo apt-get check
* sudo apt-get install libappindicator* --reinstall -f
* sudo apt-get install transmission transmission-gtk --reinstall -f
Running whereis revealed that there does not appear to be a file called
libappindicator.so.0, but rather a file called libappindicator.so, at
/usr/lib/libappindicator.so and /usr/lib64/libappindicator.so. I was able
to fix the problem by creating a symbolic link using sudo ln -s
/usr/lib64/libappindicator.so /usr/lib64/libappindicator.so.0. However, since
this was incredibly annoying, I am reporting this as a bug in an attempt to
save other users from going through what I did.

[Bug 606499] [NEW] Code::blocks version 10.05 is availlable

2010-07-16 Thread Dylan Taylor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: codeblocks

Version 10.05 of the Code::Blocks IDE is available. It is more stable
and feature-packed than the version available in the repositories. I
believe it would benefit developers to upgrade the version in the
repositories to the new version.

[Bug 606504] [NEW] Transmission 2.01 is available

2010-07-16 Thread Dylan Taylor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: transmission

Transmission 2.01 is now available from the official transmission web
site. Although this version doesn't make that much of a difference, I
still think it would be nice to get it in before Maverick is released.
Transmission 2.01 is mostly a bug fix release. Changes in 2.01:

All Platforms
* Better tracker announce management when completed torrents are moved from
the incomplete directory
* Speed up moving local data from one disk to another
* Better parsing of nonstandard magnet links

Mac
* If the seed ratio is already met when download completes, still show the
Growl notification and download-complete sound
* Fix the Help buttons in the preferences window

GTK+
* Faster torrent file parsing
* Fix the magnet link options dialog does not respect setting
* Add an error popup if Add URL fails

Qt
* Fix crash after getting magnet torrent metadata
* Fix torrent ratio goals
* Fix add torrent dialog bug on KDE desktops that popped up previous
torrents
* Fix 2.00 bug that prevented multiple instances from being run
* Fix remote mode bug that kept the torrent list from being shown
* Support encryption settings in the preferences dialog
* Use flagStr in the status field of the peer list
* Request a full refresh when changing the session source
* Fix the torrent list jumping to the top when a torrent is removed

Web Client
* Fix display bug caused by removal of a torrent hidden by the current
filter

[Bug 606509] [NEW] Wine 1.2 Stable is released

2010-07-16 Thread Dylan Taylor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wine1.2

Wine 1.2 stable was just recently released, with _many_ bug fixes since
the last stable release. I believe that we should upgrade the version of
wine in both Lucid and Maverick to 1.2, since this is such a massive
change since the previous stable version of wine. The release notes for
wine 1.2 can be found at http://www.winehq.org/announce/1.2. Because
this is a stable release, and isn't development quality software, there
is even more reason to upgrade to the latest version. According to the
Wine website, since the last stable release of wine, there have been
over 23,000 changes, and over 3,000 bug fixes.

[Bug 554783] [NEW] Graphics Card Fan Suddenly Stopped While Using Computer

2010-04-03 Thread Dylan Taylor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

While I was using my computer, doing perfectly normal things, such as
reading news articles in Firefox, my graphics card's fan suddenly
completely stopped, causing the GPU to overheat. At first I thought that
the fan was slowing down because there wasn't anything particularly GPU
intensive going on, and system load was below normal, however, like 10
minutes after, the screen turned completely black, and the computer
locked up. This almost certainly because the GPU overheated. The first
thing I did was tried Alt-SysRq-K to reboot the X server. That did
nothing, so I tried Alt-SysRq-REISUB, and the system did NOT reboot. I'm
assuming there may have been a kernel panic. Therefore, I held in the
power button on my computer until it turned off. Shortly after that, I
hit the power button again to turn the computer back on, but immediately
after pressing the power button, the system fans started spinning at
maximum speed for a split second and the system immediately shut off. No
BIOS POST information was displayed on the screen or anything. So, I
assumed the system shut off because it overheated and it was trying to
protect the hardware. I let it sit for a couple of minutes, and then I
managed to get it to turn on. Something worth noting here is that the
GPU fan worked perfectly fine after a full system reboot, making me
believe this is some sort of driver problem. The first time I tried to
boot it, Ubuntu froze before being able to load the splash screen, so I
assumed it may either be because the GPU was still overheated and not
working properly, or some file system corruption. I tried Alt-SysRq-B to
reboot it, but surprisingly that did nothing, so I turned it off with
the power button again. I then booted into recovery mode, and
thankfully, I managed to get to the recovery options. I then proceeded
to run the options dpkg, clean, and resume, but when it finished
loading services, I was in a text mode login instead of GDM, so I
rebooted using Alt-SysRq-REISUB. I then booted Ubuntu with the normal
boot method, and after running a quick fsck, I was able to login and
post this bug report on the same computer.

[Bug 554783] Re: Graphics Card Fan Suddenly Stopped While Using Computer

2010-04-03 Thread Dylan Taylor
I think this bug should be critical, because even though my hardware
ended up being fine, if I or someone else was doing something GPU
intensive like playing games or watching movies on their computer, this
could _seriously_ mess up your hardware...

I just checked -- _all_ of my packages are up to date, and they were at
the time of this bug occurring. This might be a regression from an older
version of one of the packages on my system.

[Bug 530394] [NEW] gwibber claims my Facebook password is incorrect but the same password works on Facebook itself

2010-03-01 Thread Dylan Taylor
Private bug reported:

Binary package hint: gwibber

Gwibber will not allow me to authenticate my Facebook account, yet I
literally tried copying and pasting the same password into both Gwibber
and Facebook.com, and it only worked on Facebook through Firefox. This
confirms that my password is correct, and something is wrong with the
way Gwibber handles password authentication. Obviously, for security
reasons, I can't just post my Facebook password here and say try it, so
I'm going to list some things that may have to do with the issue: My
password is somewhat long (32 Characters), it contains no special
characters other than letters and numbers with mixed case capitalization
(both upper and lower case characters), and there are no spaces. I am
not sure why Gwibber will not allow me to authenticate with my Facebook
account, but hopefully the issue will be resolved by Ubuntu Lucid's
release...

[Bug 512579] Re: Transmission 1.82 is available, which is a bug fix release

2010-01-25 Thread Dylan Taylor
This is a very minor bug, but it definitely should be rolled out before
Lucid. The faster start-up speed, and magnet parsing fixes would be very
appealing to new users (although if it's fixed, they won't realize there
was ever a problem)... :)
