Hi Christopher, 1) This one was hard... [Bug 1731735] Re: zfs scrub starts on all pools simultaneously
I'm using it on laptop. One pool holds OS + home directories and other more-or-less fast changing stuff. Another one holds only backups and VM images. First reason was to try deduplication on VM dataset without affecting main pool. Second reason was to have two big partitions to do experiments - so if necessary one pool can be moved to external HDD, partition can be formatted and used as Windows or any other way. Having one single big partition spanning whole disk proved to decrease flexibility in trying new versions of OS/other OSes and etc. >From your message I hear that for NAS/storage systems this is not recommended >scenario. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1731735 Title: zfs scrub starts on all pools simultaneously To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/zfs-linux/+bug/1731735/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1720699] [NEW] gfortran segfault on continuation at end of program followed by two or more newlines
Public bug reported: If you end a FORTRAN program with the continuation character '&' followed by two newlines, gfortran SEGFAULTs when attempting to compile the program. This issue has a very minimal repro: file: test.f90 ``` end program & ``` The two newlines at the end are significant. The problem does not repro with 1 or 0 newlines, though it does repro with more newlines. The problem also repros when any of the lines following the continuation contain a comment. The problem repros with both LF and CRLF line endings. I believe this program should compile without error. Putting a token anywhere after the continuation, even separated by 2 or more newlines, results in the expected error messages. I'm running this on Windows Subsystem for Linux, though it's not likely that is causing this bug. [Bug 1208204] Re: indicator-sound no longer functions with xfce4-indicator-plugin
#5 STOP WORKING after a sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade. Bluetooth is working but, who cares when you cannot get a sound out of your laptop? [Bug 1208204] Re: indicator-sound no longer functions with xfce4-indicator-plugin
Thank you very much for your quick response guys, really appreciated. Of course I reapplied #5, the result was the same I used to have: The applet starts to work, but you have no sound. The funny thing is that when you open the sound preferences, the graphic shows you the sound bars going up and down with the music, you can see your music, but you cannot hear anything. This is the output of the automated patch: ./status.1208204.sh status.1208204.sh: Patch/Unpatch status follows status.1208204.sh: Patched -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 369 nov 23 14:21 indicator-sound.service -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 110 nov 23 14:21 indicator-sound.service.ORIGINAL status.1208204.sh: End Yes, reinstalling is anoying but I cannot see another solution. On the good side: I made a full backup on 2013-11-19 to clean install xubuntu Saucy, so this time, for me, it is not a big deal. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1208204 Title: indicator-sound no longer functions with xfce4-indicator-plugin To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/indicator-sound/+bug/1208204/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1208204] Re: indicator-sound no longer functions with xfce4-indicator-plugin
Two things: - Workaround in #5 kind of worked for me: The indicator appeared ok, but still no sound. I didn't got sound until I installed all optional add- ons of the pulseaudio package in the Software Center and execute a sudo alsa force-reload. - Certainly having no sound at all was a clear stopper for me, and not seen #5 workaround in the official iso after 3 months is something I still cannot belive.

[Bug 1219446] [NEW] Skype video is green on Hashwell
Public bug reported: I had a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS. I downloaded skype-ubuntu-precise_4.2.0.11-1_i386.deb from the official site and installed it on my Haswell (i7 4770k) computer wich uses Intel Graphics. No video card in this system. Both local and remote skype video on my screen was solid green, the remote partner could see me without problems. I tried downgrading to skype-debian_2.2.0.35-1_amd64.deb which is known to be working on my Sandy Bridge ( i7 2630QM) machine. This resulted in local (preview) video working both remote still being solid green. I found a workaround that fixed both skype versions: - Generate an /etc/X11/xorg.conf with Xorg -configure - Add the folowing to Device section for Intel Graphics Option AccelMethod uxa This wrokaround slows down all accelerated graphics - I wish the default would work.. ** Affects: xorg-server-lts-raring (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1219446 Title: Skype video is green on Hashwell To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server-lts-raring/+bug/1219446/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1008207] Re: No shadow in top panel when disabling desktop icons in Unity
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 871283 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/871283 This has bothered me for some time (since 12.04), because whereas a nautilus crash is a transient and abnormal condition, choosing to not having desktop icons is a legitimate choice. I never use the desktop folder now, because of this; but this means I have to organize my ducuments differently, while keeping an omnipresent folder that is useless... The mechanism for the panel shadow should be independent of nautilus. This dependency also means that changing the 'desktop' (more precisely, root window?) background from the normal 'Appearance' thing (?) doesn't work (without toggling the desktop icons on and off). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1008207 Title: No shadow in top panel when disabling desktop icons in Unity To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/1008207/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 884128] Re: Window Title still present in indicator panel after closing the window
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 871283 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/871283 From your symptoms, it seems you may have no nautilus root window, i.e., either your nautilus crashed or you changed the option for showing desktop items (perhaps through dconf key - search for desktop-background-show desktop icons). I have noticed that, and also access to the dash is very unresponsive in that case (that is, when no window has focus, since there's no 'background' nautilus to swtch the focus after minimizing or closing a window). This is a bad usability issue for people who choose to not have desktop icons. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/884128 Title: Window Title still present in indicator panel after closing the window To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/884128/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 937923] [NEW] Grub2 fails to access external usb disk on systems with SATA
Public bug reported: I have used grub and grub2 on external usb disk drives for some time, with no trouble. This allows me to take my whole system from one machine to another, and boot it (either directly from the usb or by loading grub off the internal disk drive). On a few more recent machines, I am no longer able to do that: grub2 on my external drive doesn't start (just presents a blinking cursor when the external drive is selected in the bios boot menu), and grub2 loaded from the internal drive, even if it sees the external drive, and lists the partitions on it, hangs when reading (ls (hd1)/) from it. The drive is perfectly fine, it boots normaly on other systems, and I can access its contents normaly if I boot Oneiric from the internal drive or a livecd. Both machines that give me problems have interal sata, so I can not install my external (IDE) drive on them. I have tried other external enclosures and drives, with the same result. Still, those machines will boot from usb flash drives with no problem. Using set debug=all in grub2 console (loaded from the internal drive) I can get some error messages. I will try to post that output later. I suspect this is not only grub's fault - will try other bootloaders when I have managed to do a backup. [Bug 445864] Re: Impossible to open a *.iso file
I've encountered the same problem on 10.10 too. Running k9copy with strace I've also find the cause of the problem: opening of an iso image returns EOVERFLOW. From the manual of open: EOVERFLOW pathname refers to a regular file that is too large to be opened. The usual scenario here is that an application compiled on a 32-bit platform without -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 tried to open a file whose size exceeds (231)-1 bits; see also O_LARGEFILE above. This is the error specified by POSIX.1-2001; in kernels before 2.6.24, Linux gave the error EFBIG for this case. From the explanation above it is obvious that only 32-bit version is affected and this problem can also be fixed on the 32-bit version by adding a compiler flag. I've added the following two lines to CMakeLists.txt of the source tree and rebuilt the deb package: SET(CMAKE_C_FLAGS -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64) SET(CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64) [I've put it after SET(CMAKE_MODULE_PATH ${CMAKE_SOURCE_DIR}/cmake) line in CMakeLists.txt] I did not test it thoroughly yet but the iso file open problem has disappeared! These defines can cause problems only if k9copy uses external libraries which were not compiled with the above settings and they share file descriptors. So I suggest this fix to be included in the official version of k9copy too! -- Impossible to open a *.iso file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/445864 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 550502] Re: Drop all elevated privileges menu doesn't make sense
It would be useful if, for instance: Your child is playing, and an update manager window appears; you don't want him to install updates, so you need to provide your password for that kind of operations. But then, you don't want to be prompted for the password every time when you are doing several administrative tasks, so the system remembers for some time that you 'got hold' of super-user previleges. It will expire after a few minutes, I guess. That is indicated by the presence of the key icon in the status bar. Now, when you are done with some administrative tasks, and your child resumes playing Tux, you'll want to discard those privileges, so he won't do anything wrong by acident. That's what the 'drop elevated privileges' means. It probably should have a 'What is this?' option in that menu... and perhaps 'Administrative previleges' would be more familiar to window users... One problem is: it appears when one authenticates: 'Provide your password to allow this or that'. But when one authenticates, he is doing some task (that is interrupted by that prompt), and doesn't notice the icon in the status bar. When latter he notices it, it's not easy to understand where it came from. -- Drop all elevated privileges menu doesn't make sense https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/550502 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 462404] Re: Adding new start up applications are very hard
For the (somewhat common) case where the user has to pick an application, the file-chooser should provide a link to /usr/share/applications in the Places side panel. That would also double as a convenient way to access applications from nautilus windows. While some may object this kind of duplication, there's also a Desktop entry in places (although the Desktop is supposedly... in your desktop); and while most users will never browse the 'Filesystem' (a technical- sounding designation, not consistent with the '/' or 'root' or other conventions...), when they do, they will probably be looking for application launchers (which may not show up in the Application or System menus). I don't like saying this, but... in windows, users can right-click and open up their Start Menu folder, and find where their stuff is (well, that's just shortcuts). Or browse their 'c:' drive [they are accustomed to that idiosyncratic designation] and find a folder named Program Files, right there. [We have an OS that is heavily, fundamentally based on the filesystem, but we are breaking that, and that spells trouble...] -- Adding new start up applications are very hard https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/462404 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 538839] Re: when do-release-upgrade aborts, no instructions are given for how to complete the upgrade
I have been victim of the same problem (only in my case it was kvm-pxe that couldn't be upgraded). During dist-upgrade, got the message: Could not install '/var/cache/apt/archives/kvm-pxe_5.4.4-1ubuntu1.1_all.deb' The upgrade will continue but the '/var/cache/apt/archives/kvm-pxe_5.4.4-1ubuntu1.1_all.deb' package may not be in a working state. Please consider submitting a bug report about it. unable to install new version of `/usr/share/kvm/pxe-e1000.bin': No such file or directory - while setting up package kvm-pxe, got the message: package kvm-pxe is already installed and configured - The final message from dist-upgrade was: Could not install the upgrades The upgrade is now aborted. Your system could be in an unusable state. A recovery will run now (dpkg --configure -a). - Didn't prompt for restart at the end. As such, I was left with an incomplete upgrade. Although it is running, I don't trust the system now... There are no clues as to how to finish the upgrade. For the end user, it is unclear whether the system is ok or not. Visually it is inconsistent. And I guess there might be some real issues, besides the cosmetic ones. So, I would mark this bug's importance as medium or high. I sugest two things: 1- the dist-upgrade shouldn't abort if at least all meta-packages were installed (the desktop). One package that didn't upgrade shouldn't be enough to abort the upgrade past the 'no-rollback' point. In a server environment it might be done differently. 2- if dist-upgrade aborts after no-rollback point, then it should provide the means to resume whatever it should have done, after the user (eventually) fixes the issues. I'll try to find how to implement that, but I don't have much experience with python... -- when do-release-upgrade aborts, no instructions are given for how to complete the upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/538839 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 123460] Re: Rhythmbox:Error while saving song information:Internal GStreamer problem
This behaviour is still a problem for me (in Ubuntu 9.10). The timeout Per Ångström refers to has been (reluctantly) changed upstream to 120 seconds (after strenuous efforts from Per Ångström - great work!), but if you happen to have a slow wi-fi (as a result of a long broken rtl8187 driver in Ubuntu, as I have), and have full-cd audio files in a remote share, this will probably bite you. I don't think this is such a rare scenario as not to deserve attention. So, I sugest that when changing metadata, the dialog should be left open while 'applying' changes, and leave to the user the decision to abort if it takes too long. -- Rhythmbox:Error while saving song information:Internal GStreamer problem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/123460 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: I installed ubuntu 8.0.4 to a USB flash drive. I have a volume group that contains encrypted root and swap logical volumes. On some machines the USB drive appears later than initramfs:/scripts/local-top/cryptroot enters /conf/conf.d/cryptroot. As a hack I put in a 10 seconds delay: *** scripts/local-top/cryptroot-2008-07-09 00:26:36.0 +0900 --- scripts/local-top/cryptroot 2008-07-09 00:27:14.0 +0900 *** *** 271,274 --- 271,275 # Do we have any settings from the /conf/conf.d/cryptroot file? if [ -r /conf/conf.d/cryptroot ]; then + sleep 10 while read mapping; do setup_mapping $mapping This is only temporary, a better solution could be to wait in activate_vg for the device to appear before setting up the volume group, just like https://launchpad.net/bugs/85640. If you can provide a patch that is better than this I could try it out. I will be offline for 3 weeks. ** Affects: initramfs-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Volume group containing encrypted root not initialized if device is slow to appear https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/247153 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
