[Bug 1674666] [NEW] Does not support the K520 GRID GPU as used on AWS G2 GPU instances

2017-03-21 Thread Kyle Gordon
Public bug reported:

Following an unattended-upgrade on a Xenial instance this morning, the
GRID GPU stopped working with the following error in dmesg

[ 6710.061115] NVRM: The NVIDIA GRID K520 GPU installed in this system is
NVRM: supported through the NVIDIA 367.xx Legacy drivers. Please
   NVRM: visit http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html for more
NVRM: information. The 375.39 NVIDIA driver will ignore
   NVRM: this GPU. Continuing probe...

I had to obtain the relevant files from https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-
security/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+build/11078476 in order to reinstate
functionality.

[Bug 1244085] Re: Bluetooth fails after suspend resume

2014-01-08 Thread Kyle Gordon
I recently changed to an X201s laptop, and the problem persists. I'm
also having a hard time finding the time to learn about bisection, as
the provided commands on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection
are vague and assume good knowledge of Git.

Do you not have a QA test suite at Canonical on which to test this bug?

My notes thus far are...

3.11.0-12-generic. Bug not present
3.11.0-13-generic. Bug present
3.12.0.031200rc6. Bug present

Hi,

No, it didn't appear to affect the laptop prior to the upgrade.

[Bug 1244085] Re: Bluetooth fails after suspend resume

2013-10-25 Thread Kyle Gordon
Hi,

Unfortunately the problem persists on 3.12.0-031200rc6-generic too. I've

** Description changed:

Lenovo X200 will appear to suspend and resume correctly, but any attempt
to use bluetooth will result in a kernel oops followed by a hard lockup
a few minutes later. Below is some relevant output from /var/log/syslog
and lsusb, and I believe the rest of my system information has been
  uploaded by ubuntu-bug.

[Bug 701205] [NEW] Does not report correct dependancy

2011-01-10 Thread Kyle Gordon
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Recently whilst trying to configure with waf, ./waf configure failed to detect
libosmgpsmap-dev -
Checking for osmgpsmap = 0.7.2 : fail

However, pkg-config reported otherwise -
ky...@wmlp1000:/tmp/aprsmap$ pkg-config --modversion osmgpsmap
0.7.2
ky...@wmlp1000:/tmp/aprsmap$

Running ./waf configure -v revealed the following -
Checking for osmgpsmap = 0.7.2 : 20:33:01 runner pkg-config
--errors-to-stdout --print-errors --atleast-version=0.7.2 osmgpsmap
20:33:01 runner pkg-config --errors-to-stdout --print-errors --cflags --libs
osmgpsmap
fail

Further running of pkg-config revealed the following error again -
ky...@wmlp1000:/tmp/aprsmap$ pkg-config --errors-to-stdout --print-errors
--cflags --libs osmgpsmap
Package libsoup-2.4 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `libsoup-2.4.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
Package 'libsoup-2.4', required by 'osm-gps-map', not found
ky...@wmlp1000:/tmp/aprsmap$

Installing the libsoup2.4-dev package satisfies the dependancy, and all
of the above checks return correctly. Am I correct in thinking this is a
problem with the dependancies of libosmgpsmap?

Regards

Kyle

This appears to be an identical issue to http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-

However, when receiving data from the Psion, it works correctly although
with a similar error output.

[Bug 393258] [NEW] OpenOffice inconsistent save as dialogue wording

2009-06-28 Thread Kyle Gordon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org-common

Hi,

If the user has picked Save As and then selected Microsoft Word
97/2000/XP as a file format in OpenOffice Writer, the user is then
presented with a dialogue offering them the opportunity to Click 'Yes'
to save in MS Word... or Click 'No' to use the latest OD file
format However, there are no Yes or No buttons. There is a button
saying Keep current format and another saying Save in ODF Format.
Aside from ODF Format being a redundant acronym, the user has had no
explanation what ODF Format is, along with not getting the buttons
they are being told to click on.

This is especially confusing for newcomers to the environment, who will
in most cases require everything laid out correctly before them - with
no assumptions to be made, and only but the most basic of options
available.

I have attached a screenshot of the offending dialogue box.

Kyle

[Bug 306057] Re: No sound on Sony Vaio VGN-NR32M

2009-05-24 Thread Kyle Gordon
Hi again,

Sorry about the delay. We have wifi working on this laptop courtesy of
the madwifi project. I wrote a small script that is called from
/etc/rc.local that updates the madwifi modules every time there's a new
kernel... I've attached it below. I think it works, although I've not
updgraded the kernel yet :-)

I've just checked with some headphones, and yes the sound transfers to
the headphones when they are plugged in. So all working as planned!

Triage folks: I guess this bug can be closed.

[Bug 330272] [NEW] mythbackend silently fails with QSqlQuery::exec: empty query

2009-02-16 Thread Kyle Gordon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mythtv-backend

Hi,

Randomly and without warning, mythbackend will silently fail without
actually exiting. From the moment of failure onwards, it is unable to
perform any database queries, but will continue to serve data to some
functions.

The log will switch from normal logging, to errors pertaining to
QSqlQuery::exec: failures, and Query failures. Such as -

2009-01-23 20:40:14.676 Scheduled 76 items in 0.4 = 0.02 match + 0.40 place
2009-01-23 20:42:15.071 MainServer::HandleAnnounce Monitor
2009-01-23 20:42:15.075 adding: flat as a client (events: 0)
QSqlQuery::exec: empty query
QSqlQuery::exec: empty query
QSqlQuery::exec: empty query

I have been unable to ascertain the source of the problem, as it appears
to happen whilst the system is not in use (ie, whilst at work, or late
at night). I have aattached a more comprehensive log in case it may be
useful.

Kyle

[Bug 306057] Re: No sound on Sony Vaio VGN-NR32M

2009-01-22 Thread Kyle Gordon
Hi Danny,

You're a superstar! By coincidence the friend, and owner of laptop, was
visiting this evening and we had a shot at it. It worked first time :-)

I've never seen the sony-assamd option listed anywhere, but it clearly
does work.

It's up to the developers to decide whether this remains a bug or not.
The software is working, but the installer failed to detect the correct
options. I can't redo the install on his laptop, and I don't have access
to any other Sony VGN-NR32M laptops. I'm happy for the bug to be closed
if others think so too.

Many thanks Danny,

Kyle

I can also confirm that this is a fault in Intrepid.

field is already the same as DefaultValue field anyway. I have been
unable to find an earlier version of mythzoneminder to download (other
than compiling it myself).

[Bug 306057] [NEW] No sound on Sony Vaio VGN-NR32M

2008-12-07 Thread Kyle Gordon
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NR32M, and no sound is available whilst using
Ubuntu 0804. It is all up to date using official Ubuntu sources.

I have tried loading snd-hda-intel with the model=vaio parameter to no
avail. This has also been tested by unloading the module with no X
running, and reloading it with modprobe snd-hda-intel model=vaio.

I have also applied options snd-hda-intel model=vaio to /etc/modprobe.d
/alsa-base

The volume is up, and the following command yields nothing

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# aplay /usr/share/sounds/KDE_Beep_Honk.wav
Playing WAVE '/usr/share/sounds/KDE_Beep_Honk.wav' : Unsigned 8 bit, Rate 11127

card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC262 Analog [ALC262 Analog]
  Subdevices: 0/1

When snd-hda-intel is being loaded, the following is generated in dmesg

[ 31.421333] hda_codec: Unknown model for ALC262, trying auto-probe

This may be relevant...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Having just upgraded from Hardy to Intrepid, I can confirm that the

[Bug 37239] Re: VPN connection should alter /etc/resolv.conf

2008-04-11 Thread Kyle Gordon
Of course it's not a problem to the majority of people that use
NetworkManager and don't use a VPN. However, for those that do use DNS
services over a VPN, it is. As it stands, network-manager claims to
provide that functionality and doesn't, so the bug is still a major
showstopper for a certain subsection of users.

dan_linder still has a valid issue, as he may rely only on IP addresses
to reach work servers. The VPN will still work for him, but since
/etc/resolv.conf is scrubbed every time then it removes his ability to
use anything _but_ IP addresses to access any servers on any network.

[Bug 37239] Re: VPN connection should alter /etc/resolv.conf

2007-10-16 Thread Kyle Gordon
Hi,

I am experiencing similar issues with /etc/resolv.conf

When connected normally to wireless, I have the correct search domain
and nameserver parameters in /etc/resolv.conf.

However, when the system connects to my OpenVPN server, there is nothing
present in /etc/resolv.conf bar the regular # generated by
NetworkManager, do not edit! comment. After this point, I am unable to
complete any DNS requests.

Disconnecting from the VPN, but staying connected to wireless results in
/etc/resolv.conf being repopulated with the correct data.

My OpenVPN server specifically does not push out any DNS data, as all
relevant hosts are in /etc/hosts. If it did, I would expect
NetworkManager to put in additional DNS entries instead of removing them
altogether. Maybe different DNS priorities should be available for
individual circumstances.

[Bug 67999] Re: update-manager in dapper needs to depend on python-vte (was: can't find DistUpgradeViewGtk when upgrading dapper-edgy)

2007-04-29 Thread Kyle Gordon
Sorry, I meant Dapper to Edgy, and then I'm going to upgrade Edgy to
Feisty :-) I'd always been told to do it in stages, a release at a time.

I'll mail Michael and see what he says.

[Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy

2007-03-25 Thread Kyle Gordon
Just running the Dist Upgrade Tool now, and it's hung towards the end.
Expanding the terminal box shows that it's waiting for input regarding
mdadm changes (this is a software RAID1 system)...

debconf: falling back to frontend: Teletype
Configuring mdadm
-
[More]

...hitting return gives a little bit more of the dialog each time. I had
to press enter 15 times until I got the prompt asking me what arrays are
required for the root filesystem.

The same dialog problem appears again when it wants to ask me whether it
should start the arrays automatically. This time I had to press enter 5
times and then guess that it wanted a plaintext entry of 'yes' instead
of a single letter option or similar

[Bug 57607] Re: Root on raid fails to boot

2006-10-29 Thread Kyle Gordon
I see this hasn't been resolved yet, and now innumerable people are
complaining about poor software raid support in Dapper - Edgy upgrades.

Having personally suffered from it and gotten around it by reinstalling,
it's a shockingly poor way to release a distribution. Imagine the furore
if Microsoft released an XP that failed to boot with Raid1 partitions
made in 2k.

Check out http://linux.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/10/28/239258 to
see the bad press that it's getting. mdadm support is just one of them.

[Bug 63013] Missing LDAP dependency

2006-09-29 Thread Kyle Gordon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: irm

Installing IRM, PHP, etc, and then editing ldap.ini to include an ldap
backend results in a blank page when trying to log in.

Editing /usr/share/irm/www/includes/irm.inc to turn on the DEV debugging
($DEV = true;), reveals the following error when trying to log in.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: ldap_connect() in
/usr/share/irm/www/include/User.php on line 182

Installing the php4-ldap package and restarting apache2 resolves this
issue.

[Bug 57607] Re: Root on raid fails to boot

2006-09-19 Thread Kyle Gordon
update-initramfs -u doesn't solve the problem. I ran it from a chrooted
shell of the system, to no avail. I also deleted the initrd.img-2.6...
images and recreated them with update-initramfs, but that didn't cure it
either.

[Bug 57607] Re: Root on raid fails to boot

2006-09-19 Thread Kyle Gordon
Fabio,

I've tried booting with root=/dev/md0, but it's just the same as my
previous comment - /dev/md0 and /dev/disks/by-uuid are both not found at
all.

I've tried modprobing raid1.ko, which inserts successfully, but /dev/md0
is still not present.

[Bug 57607] Re: Root on raid fails to boot

2006-09-18 Thread Kyle Gordon
Hi all,

Unfortunately the new version of mdadm doesn't seem to be booting my
system, it drops to a busybox shell and proclaims that it can't find
/dev/md0, or the /dev/disk/by-uuid/blah device - whichever one is passed
at bootup.

I don't know what workaround to apply either, unfortunately.

[Bug 56377] Re: klipper crashes on login

I experience this issue as well. Klipper crashes on every occasion when
started via logging in, or from the Run Command dialog. When Klipper is
started from a Konsole shell, it runs successfully.

[Bug 57607] Root on raid fails to boot

2006-08-24 Thread Kyle Gordon
Public bug reported:

Hi,

On an up to date Edgy release, root on software raid fails to boot
correctly. Grub refers to root=UUID=2c1bfc82-...etc

After a timeout whilst waiting for the root filesystem, it fails with this
error.
ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/2c11bfc82...etc does not exist. Dropping to a shell!

At that point I am left in a BusyBox shell.

If the grub boot line is edited to say root=/dev/md0, the system boots
normally and correctly.

/dev/md0 comprises two scsi disks, /dev/sda1 and /dev/sdb1

[Bug 42529] Re: behind proxy ubiquity won't work

2006-08-03 Thread Kyle Gordon
It may be prudent to ask the user to confirm or deny the presence of a
proxy after the failure of the first apt download (or some other test).
That, combined with progress bars, would allow users to be prompted for
relevant info if required, but also let users in a 'open' network just
carry on installing regardless.

[Bug 49966] adept does not download packages in the background

2006-06-16 Thread Kyle Gordon
Public bug reported:

How lovely it would be to have Adept sense low network activity, and
automatically download updates in the background. It would be just like
Windows autoupdate, where minimal user interaction is required. Updates
can be downloaded silently, made ready for the user, and installed when
ready. The user won't have to wait a seemingly long time for downloads
to finish.
