[Bug 1969633] Re: Continuous Bluetooth timeouts [Broadcom BCM20702A]

[Bug 1969633] [NEW] Bluetooth not connecting
Public bug reported: My computer is an ASUS A88XM-A with AMD A8-7600 Radeon R7. Pluggable USB 2 Bluetooth dongle. Logitech K480 Bluetooth keyboard and Keychron K7 Bluetooth "keyboard". The Bluetooth manager finds the K480 but pairing always fails. The keyboard flashes blue but dongle steady blue. The K7 does not even show up. (But then the "keyboard" does not even work using a USB cable.) Bought dongle and K480 4 years ago, never got them to work at all, gave up as a bad investment. I ordered a K7 wireless keyboard. What I received was a Bluetooth keyboard. Bluetooth does not work. Plugging it in with a USB cable partially works (function keys and End key do not work). Got the K480 working with my Samsung Galaxy 5 Android tablet, but not with my computer. I want Bluetooth but do not know how to get it to work. It still does not work after 4 years of cold boots and the replacement of the power supply. I went to the Keychron Facebook Linux group. They were complaining that Ubuntu does not support Bluetooth and that the Keychron function keys do not work. [Bug 1802821] Re: Serious design flaw using large external drives.
I read that Paragon Software NTFS drivers will be part of the 3.5 kernel. I would like to use NTFS so that other computers can actually read my data. The current drives I'm using are 8 TB Seagate external drives with a 2 year warranty. Their price went up to $150 when on sale. I will probably get a Seagate Exos x18 18 TB drive for 2 times the cost and 2.25 times the capacity and 2.5 times the warranty period. (Also greater MTBF and annual data usage.) It would be nice if Ubuntu could access an 18 TB drive with an NTFS at greater than continental drift speeds. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1802821 Title: Serious design flaw using large external drives. [Bug 1940724] Re: 20.04.2 does not connect HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 scanner via USB2
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: I am trying Ubuntu MATE 20.04.2 to see what works and what is broken. My scanner is an HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 scanner connected to my ASUS A88XM-A motherboard via USB2 cable. With previous releases, I use VueScan Pro. Work fine. With 20.04.2 it cannot find my scanner at all. I tried the bundled Document Scanner app. It finds the scanner but cannot connect to it to actually scan. Apparently, something is wrong with connecting a scanner with a USB cable. If you need more information, please tell me how to get it and send it to you. Re: [Bug 1951219] Re: "Windows List" craches
Norbert, Thank you for responding. “apport-collect 1951219” does not work. The first time a Chrome window opened asking for permission. I gave it. A window opens asking if I want to report the bug. I answer yes. Then I see a pop-up claiming that information is being gathered; then nothing. For Ubuntu, I no longer report bugs because they never assign anyone to actually fix them. I now realize the MATE is a whole bunch of code dumped on the kernel and requires a different bug reporting ritual. But the MATE ritual does not work. Robert Pearson P.S. Tried “apport-bug mate-panel”. Does not work. As a world-class developer and a Master electrical engineer, I find the current situation incredible. No wonder Linus Tech Tips hates Linux. However, he did say that the server version is solid and reliable (not a collection of junkware and bugware {thousands of bugs held together by a few lines of code)). Can you point me in the right direction to migrate to the server distros of Linux? [Bug 1942955] Re: Ubuntu MATE 20.04.3 installer crashed
I-Cat I already have a "bootable USB drive". That is what I used to try and install Ubuntu MATE 20.04.3. That will not change the fact that the partition editor in gparted, Disks, and the installer do not have a UEFI bootable partition type in their options. The only option is BIOS bootable (yeah! lets all go back to the way it was done in 1998). I do not even know the GUID for the UEFI bootable partition type. For your questions about my system. Currently Ubuntu MATE 18.04. I tried later versions but each one broke code that works in 18.04. ASUS A88XM-A with 32 GB 1866 MHz DDR2 (4 Crucial DIMMs) AMD A8-7600 Radeon R7 running at 3.1 GHz 4TB Seagate Iron Wolf SATA HDD (this has Ubuntu MATE 18.04 installed for UEFI booting) (new) 1TB WD Blue SATA SSD (this is where I am attempting to install Ubuntu MATE 20.04.3 with UEFI booting) I copied the contents of the UEFI System Partition from the 4TB HHD to the UEFI System Partition on the 1TB SSD. I use HDMI to connect my computer to my Samsung SyncMate TA350 TV/Monitor. During installation, I noticed many missing firmware errors. I believe that they were not included because the iso file is for BIOS booting only. I need an iso intended for UEFI or BIOS booting. Any drive > 2TB ( 4TB drives are now about $75) requires GUID Partition Table and UEFI booting. New symptoms. No sound. I go to Control Center -> Sound -> Hardware and select "Built-in Audio 1 Output / 1 Input Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output. Test the speakers. Left and right pass. Profile: Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output. I click close. No sound. I reopen Sound -> Hardware and Ubuntu has reset it to (IEC958) output. Tried multiple times. Still no sount. Ran my Blu ray player through the monitor. Sound. 20.04.3 no sound. Rebooted to 18.04, Sound. How do I fix a broken installation when the iso and Installer are so bad? I would like to help improve the iso and Installer so they are up to 2021, not 1998. Who can I contact? Robert Pearson P.S. It split into Python 2 for those determined to program in C and Python 3 for those who want to "play/pretend" they are doing Object-Oriented programming or Functional programming. Re: [Bug 1942955] Re: Ubuntu MATE 20.04.3 installer crashed
After it crashed, I shut down the system and then restarted. Enough had been installed to boot and then I updated and reinstalled my apps. The reason the first partition is W95Fat32 is that the drive was originally blank (no partition table). The installer could not handle a blank drive. I know that the UEFI System Partition has to be a FAT file system, but neither gparted now Disks has a "Bootable" partition type. I do know that Disk Image Writer created Windows type media for small drives (MBR not GUID PT, EFI Compatibility Partition for the code that won't fit in the MBR). I believe that is because whoever created the iso does not believe in UEFI. When I boot, the ASUS A88MX-A firmware offers me a choice of UEFI or no UEFI. The UEFI choice does not work. The no UEFI choice does. I did have trouble with the Software Boutique. PlayOnLinux could not install because the version in the Boutique relies on Python 2 which has been discontinued instead of Python 3. VirtualBox could not install because the version in Ubuntu requires that Ubuntu MUST be installed with a CD and demands that the CD be inserted in /cdrom. I installed it from the Oracle site. I do thank you for responding. During the last 3 years, I have only gotten 4 responses. 1 really tried to help! I am still working on the issue. I would like to help improve the Ubuntu and Ubuntu MATE installer. I am a Unix System V expert, not Ubuntu. But at least I can help move from BIOS booting (pre 1998) to UEFI booting. And the limited "Something else" can be updated using gparted and Disks - and bootable partition type can be added with the correct GUID. Again. Thank you for responding. In Ubuntu MATE 20.04.3, PlayOnLinux won't install because it requires Python 2 which has been depreciated. VirtualBox won't install because it requires the installation media to be a CD. [Bug 1942955] [NEW] Ubuntu MATE 20.04.3 installer crashed
Public bug reported: Where to start. Apparently the iso (ubuntu-mate-20.04.3-desktop- amd64.iso) assumes every computer runs Windows and has small disks (2 TB or smaller). The "Disk Image Writer" formats the jump drive as MBR with bootable partition, a EFI partition for Windows compatibility and the rest of the drive (59GB) as unusable. I purchased a 1TB WD Blue SATA SSD and tried to install in it. The first five times failed. The drive was initially blank and the installer disabled the Install button. I used 18.04 Disks to creat the GUID partition table and create the UEFI System Partition, the Ubuntu MATE partition, the Linux swap partition, and a NTFS data partition. I was at least able to start the installation. Then the installer crashed. [Bug 1907732] Re: Latest mouse driver broken
Yes. When I said "hardware not programming" I meant that the problem was with the hardware not the code. Already ordered replacement hardware. I admit I was hasty. Just because the problem suddenly occurred just after a software "update" does not mean it was the update. It is just that in my experience with Ubuntu, the software is usually the problem. In fact, I usually do not report bugs because my bug reports are deleted without any attempt to fix the bugs. At least one bug (easily fixed) is over 6 years old - still not fixed. [Bug 1899858] [NEW] Distribution 20.04.1 does not support Atheros 802.11n wireless LAN cards
Public bug reported: Distribution 20.04.1 does not support Atheros 802.11n wireless LAN cards. Either the module (ath9k) is missing or the "improved" version does not work. I am currently running Ubuntu MATE 18.04.5. Since this is no longer supported, I tried to install 20.04.1. Unfortunately this version does not support my WiFi hardware (versions 13.04-19.10 do). [Bug 1899366] [NEW] Ubuntu MATE 10.04 released prematurely
Public bug reported: The first time I tried to install 20.04 I noticed that the option to update as installed was disabled. However since the ubuntu coders do NOT BELIEVE in separating code and data, I stopped the installation and made a backup of /home/robert. (I never place data here but Ubuntu does.) The second time I tried to install 20.04 I again noticed that the update option was still disabled. I went the the Try 20.04 and noticed the network indicator was missing. Unlike its predecessors (13.04-19.10) 20.04 was not able to recognize my WiFi hardware. Luckily I had WiFi hardware from another computer with a mini-CD containing drivers. [Bug 1831348] Re: The Progress Bar for emptying the Trash stuck at 0
Why don't you just flag all new bugs as "ignored", since I have never seen any activity to actually fix any bugs. When my company bought a system with Unix System V on it, I got a book of known bugs. [Bug 1852871] [NEW] Connect to Android Tablet does not work in 19.10
Public bug reported: With 19.04 I just plugged my Android Tablet into a USB slot and could move files between my two devices. With 19.10 it usually does not mount my device. When it says it has, then all the directories are claimed to be empty. The code for 19.10 obviously broke something.
