[Bug 1072535] Re: Launcher in auto-hide mode reveals and hides frequently while pointer still hovers over it and lower part of top panel reveals background picture on high GPU/RAM load

2013-02-09 Thread Stéphane Guillou
** Description changed:

  HOW TO REPRODUCE:

- Open several apps at the same time to provoke a high GPU or RAM load.
+ Open several apps at the same time to provoke a high GPU or RAM load,
+ and try to reveal and using the launcher with the mouse.

  WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN:

Windows should just grey out until responsive.

  WHAT HAPPENS:

- Often, two things happen:
- - The launcher reveals and hides inconsistently even though the mouse is
still hovering over it, making it nearly impossible to switch between windows
or launch another app. It seems the launcher very frequently looses ability to
feel that the pointer is still on top. A natural user response is to touch the
edge several times to reveal it, ending up in seeing the launcher hiding and
revealing frequently even when the user is doing something else afterwards.
- - The lower part of the top panel reveals some of the background and
flickers, often when a window is greyed out.

  EXTRA INFORMATION

This happens to me on my Samsung N310 netbook with Ubuntu 12.10 up to date. I
already have upgraded from 1 GB of RAM to 2 GB so my machine could handle 12.04.
It happens when either using the netbook screen or an external monitor, but
it might still be related to Bug #1069242.

- Bug #1066002 concerns only the panel glitch. However, those two problems
- appear at the same time in all reports so far.
+ Bug #1070735 concerns the panel glitch that was associated with this
+ problem, and has been fixed.

See attached video to understand better. Whoopsie appearing, reporting a
Dmedia crash, is not linked to this (first time it happened).

[Bug 1028929] Re: Wireless key doesn't work on Samsung N310

2013-02-09 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Associated to this (on 12.10 up to date with proposed), those French keyboard
softkeys don't have any effect either:
- € sign (Fn + F3)
- Luminosity symbol (Fn + F5)
- First aid symbol (Fn + F7)
- Running guy symbol (Fn + F8)
- Download lock symbol (Fn + F12)
- Pause/Attn key (Fn + Inser)

I'm not sure what they should do, but I thought it would be good to add
this to the bug report.

[Bug 1052124] Re: menus don't work

2013-02-06 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Roflplatytpus, could you give more details about this bug? Are you still
experiencing?
I am not sure if it is a duplicate of Bug #1085169 but I would love to figure
it out.
Is your indicator-appmenu version =12.10.3-0ubuntu2.1 ?

If you can completely relate to the bug description in Bug #1085169,
maybe we should extend the version numbers in that bug and mark this one
as a dup.

Cheers

[Bug 1052124] Re: menus don't work

2013-01-20 Thread Stéphane Guillou
I still have the same problem with LO 3.6.4.3

I experience it frequently with Calc at the moment. Closing and opening the
problematic document brings the working menus back.
I am not sure how to reproduce this, but I have been using semi-maximisations a
lot recently.

Anyone affected has a way to reproduce this problem consistently?

[Bug 1101037] [NEW] Workspace switcher and Rubbish bin (trash) launcher icons should be unlockable

2013-01-17 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Public bug reported:

At the moment, the Workspace switcher and Rubbish bin icons are locked
to the launcher by default.

Some people never use workspaces, and others don't need such acces to
the rubbish bin.

Those two icons should have the option Unlock from Launcher in their
quicklists so people who don't find them useful can make some space in
their launcher.

As those two icons are not really apps, maybe it would be more suitable
to be able to enable or disable them from System Settings - Appearance.

2013-01-17 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Thank you for your response, Alberto.

However, from my experience, I consider that Ubuntu Brainstorm is where
great ideas end up dying, a sort of way for devs to show that the voice
of the community has an impact, but really it doesn't. I have been
really disappointed by my Ubuntu Brainstorm experience, and I am no
longer active there.

This is why I would like to see this bug being filed as wishlist, like
many others, instead of just invalid.

[Bug 87220]

2013-01-17 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Changed the importance to high as this is still unresolved in 3.6.4.3
and it is still the top issue in Vote for enhancement
(https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Vote_for_Enhancement#Bug_34423_-
_Rotate_Images_in_Writer)

This is a real problem in places where users want to perform tasks as
simple as creating a sign or a pdf document with images. In most
businesses this would be seen as a serious flaw.

[Bug 87220]

2013-01-17 Thread Stéphane Guillou
It is amazing to see that this issue was reported on the OpenOffice bug tracker
in... March 2002. Yes, this has been an issue for more than 10 years.
Here is the bug report:
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=3545

As it was stated before, ericb2 at Apache is apparently working on it for AOO
4.0 (expected in April 2013), as you can see at the bottom of this page:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/AOO+4.0+Release+Planning

I could not find any extension implementing this for LO.

[Bug 87220]

2013-01-17 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Actually, I found the extension WriterRotationTool.
It works as a workaround in LO. You will need to install the version 1.0
(tested on LO 3.6.4.3) from there:
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/en/node/3620/releases

After restarting LO, you should see a new blue icon in the toolbar. By
selecting a picture and clicking this icon, you can now rotate the
object as it is considered as a graphic.

[Bug 1099277] Re: Implement unified key combinations for all 4 semi-maximizations

2013-01-15 Thread Stéphane Guillou
** Description changed:

- We currently have a way to semi-maximise windows to the left and to the
- right of the screen.
+ WHAT HAPPENS CURRENTLY:

- It would be great to be able to semi-maximise windows to the bottom and
- to the top of the screen, in particular for people using square
- monitors, and for apps that require horizontal space to be readable.
+ We currently have two easy ways to semi-maximise windows to the left and
+ to the right of the screen by using the keyboard shortcuts ctrl + super
+ + left or right.

- Implementing this would probably bring the need to redefine keyboards
- shortcuts, as currently ctrl + super + left or right control the semi-
- maximisation, whereas ctrl + super + up or down controls respectively
- maximisation and restoring original window size.
+ It would be great to be able to easily semi-maximise windows to the
+ bottom and to the top of the screen, in particular for people using
+ square monitors, and for apps that require horizontal space to be
+ readable.

- This could for example be changed to:
- - ctrl + super + arrows for 4 different semi-maximisations
- - ctrl + shift + up or down for respectively maximising and restoring (and
minimising, as it should already be the case as stated in the keyboard
shortcuts overlay)
+ This is already possible by using ctrl + alt + KP8 or KP2 (numbers on
+ the keypad). However, those are not easy to discover (they are not shown
+ in the keyboard shortcuts overlay), are not adapted to smaller keyboards
+ without keypads, and are inconsistent with the two other keyboard
+ shortcuts.
+
+
+ WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE:
+
+ To make them more accessible, we should:
+ * Redefine keyboards shortcuts, as currently ctrl + super + left or right
control the semi-maximisation, whereas ctrl + super + up or down controls
respectively maximisation and restoring original window size. This could for
example be changed to:
+ - ctrl + super + arrows for 4 different semi-maximisations. This could even
be extended to double arrow hits in order to add the four corners
quarter-maximisation.
+ - ctrl + shift + up or down for respectively maximising and restoring (and
minimising, as it should already be the case as stated in the keyboard
shortcuts overlay). This could however interfere with the selection keyboard
shortcuts - maybe ctrl + alt gr + up or down is a better option?
+ * Adding those keyboard shortcuts to the keyboard shortcuts overlay.

[Bug 1098419] Re: Panel should be right-clickable when window is maximised with global menu enabled

2013-01-15 Thread Stéphane Guillou
** Description changed:

Currently, it is possible to right click on the name bar of a windows to get
the drop-down menu allowing the following actions:
  - Minimise
  - Maximise
  - Move
  - Resize
  - Always on top
  - Always on visible workspace
  - Only on this workspace
  - Move to workspace x
  - Move to workspace y
  - Move to another workspace ...
  - Close

However, when a window is maximised and the top bar is merged with the
panel, allowing the global menu, there is no way to access this menu,
except going back to windowed mode, thus adding an extra step to execute
an action like moving the window to another workspace.

+ This is not expected as the panel is already dragable and double-
+ clickable.
+
  WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN:

The top panel's empty space should be right-clickable in order to be
able to access those options as easily as in windowed mode.

Another option, not as good as the first one, would be to add another
drop-down menu in the global menu, that would appear only when the
window is maximised. The advantage would be the ability to use those
actions with the HUD; however, adding a Window drop-down menu would
- interfere with apps that already have one, like LibreOffice Writer for
- example.
+ interfere with apps that already have one, like LibreOffice Writer, and
+ would probably end up being more confusing.

- I am using Ubuntu 12.10 32 bits.

[Bug 1099277] [NEW] Implement top and bottom semi-maximised windows

2013-01-13 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Public bug reported:

We currently have a way to semi-maximise windows to the left and to the
right of the screen.

It would be great to be able to semi-maximise windows to the bottom and
to the top of the screen, in particular for people using square
monitors, and for apps that require horizontal space to be readable.

Implementing this would probably bring the need to redefine keyboards
shortcuts, as currently ctrl + super + left or right control the semi-
maximisation, whereas ctrl + super + up or down controls respectively
maximisation and restoring original window size.

This could for example be changed to:
- ctrl + super + arrows for 4 different semi-maximisations
- ctrl + shift + up or down for respectively maximising and restoring (and
minimising, as it should already be the case as stated in the keyboard
shortcuts overlay)

[Bug 1099283] [NEW] Semi-maximised windows' button/indicator are confusing

2013-01-13 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Public bug reported:

Semi-maximised windows show the same last button/indicator than normal windows:
a square that is supposed to mean click to maximise.
In fact, clicking that button in semi-maximised state brings the window back to
its restored state.

This is confusing for the user.

This should be fixed by either:
- Keeping the button as it is but changing the effect to maximising the window;
or
- Keeping the effect as it is, but changing the button so it resembles the one
that a maximised window shows (a rectangle instead of a square)

[Bug 760879] Re: LibreOffice Window menu is hidden

2012-11-12 Thread Stéphane Guillou
@ John Winterton (comment #35):
Actually, LO 3.6.2 RC2 is the stable release. It is often the case with LO. You
can have a look a this:
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/3.6#3.6.2_release
You can see that no bugs were fixed against RC2.

Now, I have a question: we are fixing 3.6.2, but 3.6.3 is already out
with many important bug fixes. Will this version make it to Quantal?
Will it be tested with the patches applied to 3.6.2 and be updated soon?

Cheers

[Bug 432525] Re: Software store should display popularity

Is this still planned? Comment #7 has been around for more than a year
now.

USC really needs to give more options to discover apps, i.e sorting them
by different criteria (Top rated, Newest and Name, but also popularity,
latest update, licence type...)

[Bug 1078138] [NEW] Chosing all categories when search returns no results keeps the name of the category on top of new results

2012-11-12 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Public bug reported:

STEPS TO REPRODUCE / WHAT HAPPENS:
1. Go into a category, for example Games
2. Search for an app that is not in this category, for example smplayer
3. Choose all categories when the sad face appears
4. The previous category appears on top of the new search result (in my
example, Games on top of SMPlayer)

WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN:
The right category should appear on top of the new result, or at least All
categories if the results can not be classified independently.

[Bug 863366] Re: lmms does not show in menus, launcher or dash; must launch from terminal or with run dialog

2012-11-07 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Update for Quantal:

The problem is the same on Quantal: repos version is still 4.10, and it
is still impossible to find in launcher or dash.

The version on the sound PPA (https://launchpad.net/~dns/+archive/sound)
has been updated yesterday, making 4.13 available for Quantal and Raring
(thank you DNS).

Version 4.13from the PPA has the same result in Quantal as described in
previous comments: it fixes the major 'discovery' problem (possible to
find it in the dash, and possible to pin it to the launcher), but the
minor problem is that it is not listed in Sound Video in the USC -
however, a global search lets one find it.

LMMS 4.13 seems to work flawlessly on Quantal (with my tests so far).

What is stopping us to push version 4.13 in the repos to fix this bug?

[Bug 1070735] Re: When Unity UI elements are above an unresponsive window, they flicker

2012-11-05 Thread Stéphane Guillou
I have a similar problem that I described in Bug #1072535
In it, I talk about an associated problem with the launcher that hides and
reveals uncontrollably.

I tried the fix described here (disabling CCSM's Fading Windows). It
seems to have fixed the panel glitch, but it is now not possible to
reveal the launcher with the pointer anymore (still possible with the
super key though).

Should this launcher problem have its own bug report? It does seem to be
linked as it is affected by the fix, but I can't see anyone else having
this launcher problem.

2012-11-05 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Regarding my previous comment:
After disabling Fading Windows and a restart, the launcher is back but the
problem is the same. The visual glitch on the panel is fixed though. Should I
modify Bug #1072535 to talk only about the launcher problem?

[Bug 1066002] Re: A visual glitch appears on the panel if an application is not responding

2012-11-01 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Is this glitch a line at the bottom of the panel, blinking and letting you see
the wallpaper?
Do you have a screenshot you can attach?

[Bug 1066002] Re: A visual glitch appears on the panel if an application is not responding

2012-11-01 Thread Stéphane Guillou
@Pablo

Ok. I have a similar problem, that I reported in Bug #1072535

What mode do you have the launcher on? The other part of the problem I
reported is that, in auto-hide mode, the launcher doesn't 'realise' the
pointer is still on it, and it hides and reveals uncontrollably. Can you
check if you have the same problem? Because I found those two issues
often happened at the same time.

You can see a video on my bug report.

Great - good to know I'm not the only one with this problem :)
It would be good to see what hardware you have. I'm not sure how to do that
though.

By the way, why did you choose unity-lens-files as the affected
package?

[Bug 157249] Re: [Upstream] [ooo-build] images deleted from file after auto-save occurs

2012-11-01 Thread Stéphane Guillou
I seem to have the same problem on Ubuntu 12.10 with LO 3.6.2.2

I don't think I came across this before a few days ago. Now it happens
frequently, when I exchange versions of an .odt document that often has
tracked changes and comments, between my Linux + LO netbook and my boss'
Windows + M$O laptop.

Anyone seeing this again?

[Bug 1073791] [NEW] Already purchased apps don't have an install button in the list view

2012-10-31 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Public bug reported:

Now, apps that were previously purchased appear in the Software Center
with (already purchased) attached to their name.

However, in the view list, those apps don't have an install button.
One has to click more info before finding a button to install the app.

[Bug 1073794] [NEW] Free proprietary apps appear as previously pruchased

2012-10-31 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Public bug reported:

It is now possible to see apps that were previously purchased in the
previous purchases section.

However, free (as in free beer) proprietary apps are also listed as
previsouly purchased even though no transaction was made in the first
place.

There are 2 problems with this:
- It is semantically incorrect to qualify those apps as previously pruchased,
which can also be confusing for the user;
- Free proprietary apps are given more visibility than free open-source apps.

Free proprietary apps should not be listed as previously purchased.

[Bug 1041349] Re: menu from skype applet flashes twice when opening

2012-10-28 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Same problem here on my Samsung N310.
I had this problem in 12.04 and 12.10, with and without Skype Wrapper, always
with the latest stable Skype version.

I noticed something that might be of interest: the first time the drop-
down menu is clicked on, the first short appearance doesn't show the
activate element, whereas it appears on the second definitive
appearance. It is then always here, but the menu always flickers once.

I am currently using 4.0.0.8 without Skype Wrapper.

[Bug 985176] Re: Downloaded .deb-files looks like it doesn't install properly.

2012-10-28 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Does anyone experience this on 12.10?
I often try to install a downloaded deb package, USC seems to install, then
back to the install button. Last time I tried was with the Rstudio .deb
package: http://www.rstudio.com/ide/download/desktop
After several trials, still nothing. However, installing it with Gdebi works
fine.

[Bug 1072535] [NEW] Launcher in auto-hide mode reveals and hides frequently while pointer still hovers over it and lower part of top panel reveals background picture on high cpu load

2012-10-28 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Public bug reported:

HOW TO REPRODUCE:

Open several apps at the same time to provoke a high CPU (not sure about
that... Is it CPU/GPU/RAM?) load.

WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN:

Windows should just grey out until responsive.

WHAT HAPPENS:

Often, to things happen:
- The launcher reveals and hides inconsistently even though the mouse is still
hovering over it, making it nearly impossible to switch between windows or
launch another app. It seems the launcher very frequently looses ability to
feel that the pointer is still on top. A natural user response is to touch the
edge several times to reveal it, ending up in seeing the launcher hiding and
revealing frequently even when the user is doing something else afterwards.
- The lower part of the top panel reveals some of the background and flickers,
often when a window is greyed out.

EXTRA INFORMATION

This happens to me on my Samsung N310 netbook with Ubuntu 12.10 up to date. I
already have upgraded from 1 GB of RAM to 2 GB so my machine could handle 12.04.
It happens when using the netbook screen as well as an external monitor, but it
might still be related to Bug #1069242.

See attached video to understand better. Whoopsie appearing, reporting a
Dmedia crash, is probably not linked to this (first time it happened).

[Bug 1070705] Re: Launcher - Locking an executable to the launcher makes it change position, doesn't launch the app and is lost at restart

2012-10-25 Thread Stéphane Guillou
** Tags added: regression-release

** Summary changed:

- Launcher - Locking an executable to the launcher makes it change position,
doesn't launch the app and is lost at restart
+ [Regression] Launcher - Locking an executable to the launcher makes it change
position, doesn't launch the app and is lost at restart

** Description changed:

  WHAT I DID:

I downloaded Zotero standalone from this page:
http://www.zotero.org/support/3.0#zotero_standalone
After opening the app via its executable, I locked it to the launcher by
right-clicking on its icon and selecting lock to launcher.

  WHAT HAPPENED:
The icon was effectively locked to the launcher but jumped several positions
upwards (random number).
After closing the app, it wasn't possible to open it again from the launcher
(icon pulses but nothing happens).
Opening the app again from the original file would add a second identical
icon to the launcher.
After restarting the computer, the icon was lost.

  WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN:
The icon should be locked to the launcher at its actual position; it should
be able to use it to open the app again; and it should stay locked to it even
when the computer restarts.
+
+ I marked this as a regression as this wasn't a problem at all in 12.04:
+ the icon would stay at its place, was able to launch the app, and was
+ still in the launcher at restart.

[Bug 1052124] Re: menus don't work

2012-10-24 Thread Stéphane Guillou
I am also affected by this bug on Ubuntu 12.10 up to date with LO
3.6.2.2

I thought it was just the save as because I didn't test the rest of the
menus, but now that I ran into it again, I figured out it is all the items of
the drop down menus that are inactive (they are clickable and look normal, but
clicking them does nothing).
However, the toolbars and keyboard shortcuts work fine.

I noticed I can have 2 documents (both .odt) open at the same time, one
with menus inactive, the other with menus working fine.

[Bug 1069762] Re: Slider click only works slightly above the slider itself

Same problem here, on 12.10 up to date.
It seems it's the whole clickable zone that shifted upwards. Not only the the

[Bug 1064962] Re: Global menubar items do not work when opening a document directly from nautilus with no LibreOffice instance running

Completely agree with Peter Harvey's previous comment. I know have to

Bug #1070051 might be a duplicate.

Do you guys have the items in HUD? Is this related to Bug #1068546?

When menu items don't work, I can still use keyboard shortcuts and
toolbars.

Ok, I just witnessed the top menu disappearing when opening a text

here when hovering the pointer on the panel. Minimising and restoring
the window makes it come back. However, I couldn't reproduce the save
as problem but witnessed it yesterday.

2012-10-23 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Ok, we might have two bugs here:
- For the global menu disappearing, is it only when opening a document from
Nautilus, and does minimising + restoring fix it? If so, it's Bug #1064962, and
you should mark it as affecting you
- About the the save as having no effect, I have witnessed it but I am not
sure how to reproduce it. Do you have a a list of steps to follow in order to
reproduce this bug? And when it happens, are you able to use the shortcut
effectively instead (shift+ctrl+S)?

[Bug 1065802] Re: Progress bar on launcher icons should be at the bottom, not the middle

2012-10-22 Thread Stéphane Guillou
I think M$ does this (something like a green filling from left to right).
As the filling process seems more natural from bottom to top, maybe this could
do it? Furthermore, it would slightly differentiate us from M$ :)
It's also true that when an icon has the number bubble AND the progress bar,
it looks very bulky and the icon is often unrecognisable.

[Bug 1067349] Re: After drop of Unity2D in 12.10: How to tackle high load of Unity/compiz on netbooks?

2012-10-21 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Agree with this concern.

More attention should be given to portable devices that can't handle such loads.
One of the best things about Ubuntu a few years ago was its capacity to
resuscitate low-specs computers. It feels it's the complete opposite now.

Bug #1069319 is related to this.

I agree with the facts that it disrupts the icon. It does look too bulky/toyish

[Bug 1056743] Re: Searches fail across changes in case

2012-10-03 Thread Stéphane Guillou
As I was active in a duplicate, here is my fairly old comment, just for
information :

-

I confirm this with another example: MusicBrainz Picard.
In the dash and the launcher, it is displayed as MusicBrainz Picard.
If I search in the dash for music or music b*, I can see its icon, but if I
search for musicb* or musicB*, it doesn't appear.

I think the problem is the capital letter of the second word when there is no
space between them, because I can reproduce it with
- MusicBrainz Picard
- AisleRiot Patience
- FreeCell Patience
- IcedTea Web Control Panel
- PureData
- Transmission BitTorrent Client

However, I don't have this problem with:
- ImageShack Uploader.
- MyPaint
- MyUnity
- LibreOffice
- RecordMyDesktop
- QjackCtl

Any idea what could this come from?

[Bug 1054282] Re: No obvious way to restrict shopping suggestions from displaying adult products

2012-10-02 Thread Stéphane Guillou
As long as this isn't fixed, the Amazon search results should NOT show
up by default in the dash home.

The dash home is supposed to be(come) the place where everything happens
in Ubuntu. We can't deliver a product that fortuitously shows results
that are NSFW if we want Ubuntu to be a major OS in educative and
professional environments. The examples are plenty, as the comments
show.

Use the Amazon categories and tags to implement this. And as long this
is not implemented, don't make it default for 12.10.

Comment #96 is actually a great idea! It is pretty straight forward, and
it won't annoy anyone as it doesn't need to add an extra button to the
launcher.

Yes, could Christopher M. Penalver (penalvch) explain why the title
change has been reverted? It has been proven in many comments that many
other series are affected, and this title change was aimed at making it
easier for other users affected by this bug to find it.

[Bug 945006] Re: Screen flickers heavily after upgrading to 12.04 beta 1

2012-08-10 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Dear Alex

Could you check if that bug is more like it: Bug #1028151
I have the EXACT same problem as yours (on a Samsung N310), and when I
described it in there, I have been asked to report a separate bug which was
directly reported as a Bug #1028151 duplicate.
It could help if you reiterated this same comment there.

Cheers!

[Bug 826940] Re: PDFMOD removes pages other than the one I have requested. End up with a file with just the page I would like removed...

2012-08-09 Thread Stéphane Guillou
I have come across this bug today, on Ubuntu 12.04 up to date, and
PDFmod 0.9.1.

I exported a Impress presentation from LibreOffice in PDF format, then
opened it with PDFmod. As I just wanted 1 of the slides, I selected all
the other ones and clicked the remove button. I was left with only the
first slide of the presentation, which I had selected. The only slide I
hadn't selected (the one that I wanted to keep) was deleted.

[Bug 1026426] Re: LibreOffice Calc and Draw launcher integration broken

2012-08-06 Thread Stéphane Guillou

If Calc or Draw is locked to launcher, all is normal.
Opening just Calc or Draw via the dash works as normal too.

However, problems arise if you open a document directly (from the dash
or double clicking in Nautilus) when there is no icon pinned to the
  launcher:

  Case #1
- A white generic Liberoffice icon appears - not the proper application icon
(eg a green one for Calc, a yellow one for Draw). If more documents are opened,
no more wee triangles appear and the icon becomes useless: it cannot be clicked
to switch to any open instance. There is no way to switch to it if the window
is minimized, as now LibreOffice no longer appears in the alt-tab switcher.

  Open a file directly again.

  Repeat.

Case #1 now reapers, and it will go back and forth ad infinitum.

-
- Note that I don't get this problem with Writer or Impress, which is pretty
werid. I've tried this with LibreOffice 3.5.3.2 and the PPA version (currently
3.5.5.3). I've also tested using lo-menubar and not, but it makes no
difference. I've also tested it on two separate computers using Precise and
purged all of LibreOffice and reinstalled... all to no avail.

+ WORKAROUND:
+
+ Missing windows can be found by using the super + W (for QWERTY keyboards;
super + Z for AZERTY keyboards) to use the spread function.
+ This is also possible by using something like Ubuntu Tweak and setting a
hotcorner wich triggers the spread function.

[Bug 1028151] Re: Samsung Series 900 Laptop brightness control issue

2012-08-01 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Dear all

I think I am experiencing this bug on my Samsung N310.
It happens every so often at booting up, the luminosity OSD bubble appears and
the luminosity changes by itself. During this, it is impossible to use the
computer. One way to stop it is to play with the luminosity keyboard shortcuts.
I now sometimes experience this during normal use of the computer, not only at
boot up.

I also noticed that often, I can just set the luminosity to its maximum,
minimum and off (no intermediate levels available, it goes all the way
up or all the way down automatically).

This only started maybe 3 weeks ago. At first I thought it was bug
#945006 but this one looks more like it.

I think I'm on the generic kernel 3.2.0-29.46

Can I help in any way?

[Bug 1032005] [NEW] Samsung N310 screen luminosity flickers randomly

2012-08-01 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Public bug reported:

This bug started around 3 weeks ago on my Samsung N310 netbook. I run
updates at least every two days. I never had any problem with luminosity
before then (2 years of using this netbook with several Ubuntu
versions).

I'm on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 32 bits up to date.

What I witness:
- Often, at boot up, the luminosity flickers heavily. I can not use my computer
(clicking doesn't respond) until I play with the luminosity keyboard shortcuts.
- Sometimes, it happens in the middle of a session. I can't figure out what
triggers it.
- I also noticed that, often, I can only choose between full luminosity,
backscreen off or minimum luminosity. The intermediate levels are not available
(the cursor of the OSD bubble goes automatically all the way to the top or to
the bottom).

[Bug 23220] Re: Closing lid should not turn off external LCD

2012-07-31 Thread Stéphane Guillou
** Description changed:

If you have a laptop with external monitor attached, and you close the laptop

[Bug 781931] Re: New windows are moved to front but don't take focus

2012-07-26 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Thanks Clint

This did it for me, after update + restart, I don't encounter this bug
with Nautilus on 12.04 any more.

Tag has been changed to verification-done.

Cheers!

[Bug 1028845] [NEW] [Dash] The lenses order is random, and the user should be able to change it

2012-07-25 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Public bug reported:

At the moment, it is not possible to reorder the lenses. It seems like
there is no pattern to creating the order of the lenses in the dash: the
lenses I added myself are added randomly in the list, Home and Apps stay
at the beginning, Videos is at the end, and Files and Music are
somewhere in the middle, mixed with the lenses I added.

The 5 original lenses should stay at the beginning of the list, with the
newly installed ones added at the end.

Also, the user should be able to change the order of the lenses. This
would make it easier to make the preferred ones more accessible.

[Bug 863366] Re: lmms does not show in menus, launcher or dash; must launch from terminal or with run dialog

2012-07-23 Thread Stéphane Guillou
I just had a look in USC, and it appears that LMMS doesn't appear in Sound
Video when this ppa is in use.
However, it is listed in the Dash in the Media filter.
Thanks for your help, Israel Dahl!

[Bug 863366] Re: lmms does not show in menus, launcher or dash; must launch from terminal or with run dialog

2012-07-22 Thread Stéphane Guillou
And I just wanted to point out that in Ubuntu Software Centre, every
single one of the 7 reviews that appear for LMMS at the moment mention
this problem, in particular two reviews giving a one star rating for
this reason (can't find it anywhere).

** Description changed:

Install lmms in ubuntu 11.10 64bit and it can only be launched via
terminal and run dialog also locking the icon in the launcher does not
  allow relaunching with it.

Also an issue in Ubuntu 12.04 beta.
+
+ Apparently, the desktop file exists in the sources, but it is not added
+ to /usr/share/applications/ when the package is installed.

[Bug 863366] Re: lmms does not show in menus, launcher or dash; must launch from terminal or with run dialog

2012-07-22 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Another workaround is to get the latest stable version of LMMS via the
DNS Sound ppa:

https://launchpad.net/~dns/+archive/sound

Current version in Ubuntu is still 4.10 (released in February 2010 !!!);
the PPA version is 4.13, released in February 2012.

I tested it:
- Uninstall LMMS
- Add ppa in a terminal with: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:dns/sound sudo
apt-get update
- Install the new LMMS version in USC

The Icon is now present in Dash, and can be locked to the launcher.

This bug could be fixed by simply pushing the latest stable version in
the repositories.

[Bug 806908] Re: pdf fies shown as blank pages at random time

2012-07-22 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Everyone: does this bug appear only after you already opened a pdf document
successfully and closed it?
If this is the case, this bug is a duplicate of Bug #806605.

Have a look and follow this other bug if you are in the same case.
Cheers !

[Bug 806605] Re: Acrobat Reader Firefox plugin crashes when closing and opening PDF files consecutively

2012-07-22 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Do you guys get the blank black page? Or is it something different?
I feel like I have this problem with this adobe reader plugin, but it not as
consistent as it is described: I noticed that as soon as I get the blank
screen, I can never get another pdf to open, but sometimes I can open many pdf
successively without any problem...

Is this bug only for when it happens after opening and closing a first
pdf successfully?

Can you check if you are using the Acroread plugin? You can look at
[Tools - Add-ons] and disable it to test, or go to [Edit - Preferences
- Applications] and find PDF document.

[Bug 977147] Re: Review window opens its own icon in the launchbar but it's the same icon as USC

2012-07-21 Thread Stéphane Guillou
This is a problem to me too. It should either be fully integrated in USC (which
would make a lot more sense as it is an obvious feature), or either get a
different icon.
But really, the first option is by far the best one: we don't need to clutter
the launcher any more.

[Bug 898357] Re: [needs-packaging] Desura / Desurium

2012-07-19 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Any news about this? It looks like there has been good progress since
this bug has been filed. Can we expect it hitting the repositories
soonish? It would be great as it would all at once bring dozens of games
available and easily installable to all Debian/Ubuntu derivated OSes
users.

[Bug 374696] Re: Update Manager pops to front interrupting focus

2012-07-17 Thread Stéphane Guillou
This problem still exists in 12.04.

When the extra dialogue appears after starting installing the updates,
software updater goes to front but doesn't take focus. To go back to
their work (say, on Firefox), the user has to (1) click on the software
updater window to make it take the focus, and then (2) click on the
Firefox window to bring it back in front, which is unintuitive and time
consuming.

This bug should at least be classified as Medium.

** Summary changed:

- Update Manager pops to front interrupting focus
+ Update Manager (Software Updater) pops to front interrupting focus

[Bug 842566] Re: Libreoffice and unity integration broken.

2012-07-17 Thread Stéphane Guillou
I have the same problem on 12.04 up to date on a Samsung N310.

This started a few days ago. It is very annoying, as often I click on
the launcher icon and instead of bringing the document that is already
opened, it opens a new blank document.

So the document is often not visible on the launcher or in alt+tab, but
it is visible when using the spread function (either with super+Z or
with a hotcorner set by Ubuntu Tweak).

I sometimes also get an extra icon at the bottom of launcher (the icons
don't merge for some reason).

change the status to reopen the bug so it gets some attention (it was
tricky to find this bug as the fixed bugs don't appear in the search
