[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 553415] Re: mouse trapped in box for Open Motif

2010-08-20 Thread Graham Inggs
After testing and uploading the patch I asked for a lucid task to be
created on #ubuntu-x on freenode, Timo Aaltonen kindly did so and said
he could even sponsor the fix, but would like to talk to the release
manager about pulling the whole of 1.7.7.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 554569] Re: [lucid] Blank screen with KMS on Thinkpad X201 with Arrandale (i915)

2010-08-20 Thread Cima
On my machine I don't really want to test an alpha release of a kernel,
but I gave a try to #127. It doesn't boot on my laptop (core i5 540),
but I think that's not connected with graphics but something else.
Anyway, the good thing is that I can see the normal splash screen, so
the screen doesn't go blank after grub. There is hope...

2010-08-20 Thread Gregor Müllegger
I've updated my Lucid Installation to the latest Maverick alpha and
downloaded the newest packages. This *does not* help for me. The boot
splash shows up after grub but the screen still goes blank after a
fraction of a second.

I have a Lenovo U160 with Core i7 920.

 Bug description:
 Hi all,
On my new Thinkpad X201 with Core i5 and integrated Arrandale graphics with
lucid i get a blank screen (no backlight) as soon as the i915 kicks in during
boottime. Booting continues, i can hear the loginsound, but the display stays
dark. External screen shows a picture, although with wrong resolution.
Booting with the i915.modeset=0 results in working graphics, but only X with
vesa. I tried several kernel-versions, including karmic livecd and the newest
daily build from the kernel mainline ppa, both 2.6.33 and 2.6.34, all to no
avail. The only kernel that works is from this ppa
 (https://launchpad.net/~csurbhi/+archive/karmic-stable) from bug #515246, but
I couldn't isolate why. This could be a duplicate of that bug, but it has
been marked fixed, but still remains with me.
The problem seems to be that the i915 cannot initialize the internal display
 properly. Following snip from syslog:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 432024] [NEW] Keyboard layout initialization

2010-08-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

There seems to be a problem with the gnome keyboard initialization. I
boot into runlevel 3, then start X with 'ssh-agent startx'. I have
caps lock redefined as additional control key. But after starting X,
caps lock acts as caps lock. I need to go to
System-Preferences-Keyboard-Layouts-LayoutOptions. The options
show that caps lock is redefined as additional control. I need to
change the option to default, then back to 'Make CapsLock an additional
Ctrl' at which point things work as desired - until the next reboot,
that is.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 432024] Re: Keyboard layout initialization

2010-08-20 Thread Fabio Marconi
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in xserver xorg input kbd.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 621011] [NEW] system boots with a locked splash when nvidia driver fails

2010-08-20 Thread Thomas
Public bug reported:

From time to time the nvidia driver fails to work with the current system
which is of course related to its beta and proprietary status. Unfortunately
the system starts up with a locked splash screen then and the only chance to
resolve this is to press CTRL-ALT-DELETE to reboot the system. No switching
terminal keys like CTRL-ALT-F2 work either.
In the boot parameter option I have to remove the option quite and splash
then to get a textual bootup and to see what the problem of the nvidia driver
might be.
This is acceptable for a power user which know how to circumstance this, but
might be a problem for other users. It should be possible to login at least and
to see the error output of the X server.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 620581] [NEW] Reduced screen resolution choices after update

2010-08-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

may relate to #500687

System - a reference lucid system from 10.04 lucid CD downloaded late
July, all updates, no tweaks, mostly working to local servers but
inevitably with a bit of local work accumulation.

Following the latest update which included an X- package, my screen
resolution is now limited to 800x600 - which many websites and many
Ubuntu utilities no not support graciously.

Previously (lucid release CD with all updates except the last batch) I
chose 1024x768 from a list that included several higher resolutions, all
of which worked on my MBO e-tron 770 monitor (17 inch CRT, 'Unknown' on
the System-Preferences-Monitors utility)

If really necessary I can reinstall and not update to get earlier
diagnostics but I would want to be sure I am getting the right stuff for
you, and that I need to, before tearing this system down.

xdpyinfo includes the following - clearly not right for a 17 inch
monitor:

screen #0:
  dimensions:800x600 pixels (212x159 millimeters)
  resolution:96x96 dots per inch
  depths (7):24, 1, 4, 8, 15, 16, 32
  root window id:0x102
  depth of root window:24 planes
  number of colormaps:minimum 1, maximum 1
  default colormap:0x20
  default number of colormap cells:256
  preallocated pixels:black 0, white 16777215

OpenOffice must get its screen information from somewhere else - its
documents are displayed approximately 20% oversize.

2010-08-20 Thread David Planella
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 459639 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/459639

Alex,

I'm not sure it's a duplicate. I'm not sure if it's the same behaviour
for all other affected, but in my case this particular bug even prevents
the failsafe dialog from loading, and I'm left with either a black
screen or a screen with the Ubuntu logo.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 368499] [NEW] Whole desktop freezes for 15 secs when background image is modified

2010-08-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

On Jaunty, when the image file being used as desktop background is
overwritten or changed, the whole desktop freezes for 15 seconds. The
Xorg just after the freeze is shown at 99% CPU, but I can't be sure of
what is happening because everything freezes.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Find the current image used:
$ gconftool-2 -g /desktop/gnome/background/picture_filename
/home/.../imgs/current_bg.png
2) Copy the file to another location
$ cp /home/.../imgs/current_bg.png /tmp/tmp.png
3) Copy the new file back to the original position
$ cp /tmp/tmp.png /home/bisho/imgs/current_bg.png

After some seconds, the desktop while freeze for about 15 secs. The
mouse still moves, but the cursor doesn't change depending on the
context, windows are not responsive, pannels are freezed...

I noticed this because I have a program to change background image
including the earth with the proper shadow, and modify the image every
30 minutes.

This began happening after upgrading to jaunty. Previously this was
working fine.

Done.

Right now I'm running a experimental branch of XOrg, but the problem
appeared also of default vanilla version from Ubuntu.

If you want me to downgrade to the standard XOrg and run apport again,
just tell me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 621003] Re: nvidia-xconfig does not set ignoreABI

2010-08-20 Thread Harry
Nvidia-settings actually should not set that option.
The option IgnoreAbi is in use now with xserver 1.9 because there are no
nvidia drivers around to fully support this new xserver.
So, IgnoreAbi is a workaround, not a fix.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 621003] Re: nvidia-xconfig does not set ignoreABI

2010-08-20 Thread Thomas
I don't want to start a discussion right here and I accept your
decision. However I want to add following: The package nvidia-current
and its content nvidia-xconfig is supposed to be working with the
current system, so it is with the current xserver. I can not understand
why to provide a package which obviously does not work. Either you
decide to drop it for incompatibility or you try to get it to work. I am
no expert at all, but I guess that nvidia drivers never have been fully
compatible with xservers.

2010-08-20 Thread thomas beaver
I have the same problem with an EliteBook 8440p (base model) with an i5
and the Intel GMA HD. Black screen but the backlight is still on. I
was successfully able to install Kubuntu with text mode but the problem
occurs when I try to boot Kubuntu. Recovery mode returns the same
result, black screen. This is a VERY frustrating problem. I cannot
believe that it has not been fixed yet.

4+ months and no fix???

If I knew enough about Linux I would help but I don't.

Status in “xserver-xorg-input-synaptics” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

 Bug description:
In my Compal JFL92- laptop running Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty I have a problem that
becomes apparent while typing text and (usually accidentally) touching the
mousepad at the same time. The next letter I press after the mousepad gets
multiplied, the keyboard gets 'stuck' and loses some following keyboard input
 until the system recovers.

 Example: mousepad followed by s - s.

I tested the problem also with Ubuntu 9.04 and 8.10 live-cds. With the 9.04 I
could replicate the problem, but with 8.10 I could notice some lag of the
keyboard input appearing on screen but no loss or replication of characters
 as with 9.04.
I've also noticed some hpet output in dmesg like this:

CE: hpet increasing min_delta_ns to 15000 nsec

Even with disabling hpet the problem persists.

 dmesg attached.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 432024] Re: Keyboard layout initialization

2010-08-20 Thread Wolfgang
Fabio,

This was reported on 8.04.3 and persisted on all Hardy upgrades. I've
moved on to 10.04 and the problem no longer exists. I never ran Karmic
or Lucid and don't have an easy way to go back. Since the problem was
related to maintaining state, it probably can't be checked with a live CD.

Regards,

 Hello Wolfgang

Can you verify if this problem is present with the latest updated Karmic
 or Lucid's packages?

If it still exist, please run in a terminal:

 apport-collect 432024

 Thanks
 Fabio

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 616997] Re: [RV515] Unity keeps reloading with a white background

2010-08-20 Thread Mikkel Kamstrup Erlandsen
Thanks Markus!

Markus' mutter.crash.retraced dump indicates what I suspected. The
callback we get from dbus-glib passes in invalid data to
clone_callback() function's 4th argument (GPtrArray rows) (dee-shared-
model.c line 1055 in the attached branch).

This probably means that there is a double free or something in dbus-
glib. Further investigation is needed.
