Tx. I'm wary of adding things that would reduce reliability - that's what I'm trying to solve! What kinds of things might it break? I'm not hacking or trying to turn PCP into a Swiss army knife, just trying to make it easier to diagnose messages. mr-b's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10044 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114828 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer 8.0.0 - Bluetooth Discussion
Is there a list of recommended USB BT adapters? I'm having lots of troubles with the built-in RPi one. I checked the PCP docs but there isn't a list. A forum search turned up a Maxesla v4.0 adapter on Amazon but it's no longer available. Knowing the supported chipsets would help too. I know Realtek ones are not supported but I didn't quite understand the reason why. Nor do I understand how one would use the Realtek firmware posted recently or if it's going to cause problems. All a bit confusing. :-( mr-b's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10044 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114834 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 8.0.0
Hi Is there any way that the Diagnostics page 'dmesg' section could be converted to human readable time? I find trying to diagnose various things very difficult when I've no idea when they happened. I tried the CLI and thought I'd found an option to do it but it doesn't work. $ sudo dmesg -T dmesg: invalid option -- 'T' BusyBox v1.34.1 (2021-11-20 17:14:52 EST) multi-call binary. Also could the dmesg section be moved towards the top of the Diags page to save hunting for it halfway down the page every time? mr-b's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10044 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114828 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 8.0.0
I recall the last time I had some issues with the LMS update process regarding notifications in the player and then the actual upgrade of LMS on pCP, but this time around I saw the notification of an LMS update to 8.3.0 available, then followed the link. The link had a lot of scary stuff about source code and scripts and doing it from the CLI but then I spotted at the bottom "For users of piCorePlayer please use This Link". Following that opened up the PCP UI with an "Update LMS" button, and then it all upgraded fine! Tx to all for making this process an easy one. mr-b's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10044 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114828 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Not quite your issue, I know. CAn you say which version exactly? I've found Windows BT recently to be very flaky, and incredibly sluggish. I know BT has suffered anyway since inception due to multiple "interpretations" of its implementation. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer 8.0.0 - Bluetooth Discussion
Well I've got Win11 to work on one PCP! But it was an arduous journey and I still can't get it to work on the other PCP. :-( To be fair I've had similar symptoms with Win10 but on a different laptop so I can't completely blame Win11. It's working on a rPi 4B and piCorePlayer v8.2.0 | www v00017 | linux 5.15.35-pcpCore-v7l (32) | piCore v13.2 | Squeezelite v1.9.9-1392-pCP. It's not working thus far on a 3B+ and the same PCP s/w. It seems that keeping PCP's "Discoverable" = Yes helps. Also the behaviour seems random after the Windows scans for BT devices and tries to pair. Sometimes it pairs and allows one to connect, other times Windows says after a delay that the other device "would like to pair to this Windows device"! Sometimes devices take ages to appear in the Windows BT scan list, sometimes not. Another gotcha was that the PCP "Paired Devices" entry somehow changed from Type = Player to Speaker. I think the symptom of this was that the PC's paired device connected and then disconnected immediately afterwards. I've no idea how that config change happpened but I certainly didn't change it. I've seen that twice now on different PCPs but can't reproduce it. Once I changed that back to Type = Player it remained connected. Another issue appears to be signal strength. Both laptops and PCPs seem to be quite different in this. I suspect my PCP's metal case doesn't exactly help in this regard. I might try one of the USB dongles that others report as working e.g. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Maxesla-Bluetooth-Wireless-Transmitter-Controller/dp/B0126XU9CM/ref=sr_1_16?dchild=1=Maxesla=1626034484=8-16 Maybe a wizard to step through might help eradicate issues and make sure every value is set correctly. mr-b's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10044 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114834 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer 8.0.0 - Bluetooth Discussion
Tx, I've worked out some of what was going wrong. After I'd updated my second PCP and BT stopped working, I spotted there was a new status bullet "Bluealsa is running". Then I saw a new section with a "BT Output Device" setting which was blank. The possible values looked similar to the Squeezelite audio output setting but with ",DEV=0" tacked on the end, so I guessed at that. I looked at the Alsa Volume setting which recommended to check alsamixer. I found that under under Squeezelite but could not make head nor tail of the settings so i've ignored it for now. But the BT output now works! :-) Checking the the first PCP, it didn't have the Bluealsa bullet despite my verifying that no BT updates were available. After multiple browser refreshes by chance I spotted that PCP was on 8.1.0 when the second was on 8.2.0. So I upgraded PCP in-situ and then the four BT bullets were present. I set the BT output setting and that works too! Phew! :-) Maybe the BT update checker (which also seems to take well over a minute each time) could check the PCP version too, if that's a known compatibility issue? I'll look at Win11 again another day ... mr-b's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10044 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114834 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer 8.0.0 - Bluetooth Discussion
I tried on another PC and was able to replicate this i.e. udate BT s/w and the tablt can still connect but no audio is heard. Then I wwent back to the old BT s/w and tried it with Windows 11. Wi11 could see the PCP but it couldn't connect. Event Log says "The mutual authentication between the local BT adapter and a device with BT address (blah blah) failed." So the behaviour is the same with the old and updated PCP BT s/w. Interestingly the BT address in the Win11 event log is not seen at all in the PCP logs, but I've no idea if I'm making an incorrect assumption about BT addresses being similar to MAC addrsses. mr-b's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10044 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114834 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

After trying out Win11 which I thought had messed up my existing tabet BT pairing, I decided to do an image restore. After that the tablet worked fine. It'd be ideal if it was integrated with the player like LMS notifications, or via the admin UI e.g. pfsense or Kodi or many of my other appliances. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 8.0.0
Hi I did search but couldn't find an answer to this ... Is there any way to have a notification of pCP updates ( or other component updates) e.g. like LMS? I don't tend to update on a whim but it's be great to at least have some notice of updates that one could review. Currently I seem to discover new releases by accident. The notification could be via the UI or via an Announce (only) locked thread where each release update notice could be posted (and to which one could subscribe). mr-b's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10044 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114828 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Jivelite, Shairport) may need to be reloaded." and I'd guessed that extensions would be reloaded anyway after a reboot after a pcp upgrade. Are you saying that some/all extensions need to be manually *updated* after an in situ upgrade (via the "Patch Update" button)? Is this a commonly known "feature" ? Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 8.0.0
Tx - the only thing that had changed was a new drive in the server which meant the remote image backup share name in my net mounts was invalid. The music share didn't change. The new drive went in with no LMS activity ongoing. Before I'd spotted that share name issue I then added "vers=2.0" to the music library mount option and it mounted! (I tried Net Mount button before but it wouldn't even try as nothing had changed). Then I corrected the share name for the remote image backup and that mounted Ok, so then I removed the vers=2.0 from the music library mount and everything mounts again, so the dialect error in dmsg could have been a red herring. H. It seems like net mount detects 'something' has changed and then it breaks all the mounts for some reason. I forget what the retry mechanism is on L*nux SMB, with Windows it just retries, like a soft vs hard mount. mr-b's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10044 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114828 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Hi I'm having trouble getting my new Rpi4 with a Hifiberry DAC2 Pro XLR to work. No audio comes out of the XLR or even minijack outputs. I searched and found a few posts back about some settings for this HAT but was rather confused by them as I've not seen an Extra HATS setting. Also I found this https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?114030-piCorePlayer-7-0-0-doesn-t-play-well-with-HiFiBerry-DAC2-Pro which semed very similar. I found like the OP too that the HAT LED came on when the DAC+ output was used! But then if I selected DAC2HD (and Pro) Squeezelite didn't run. The Alsa mixer button gives Save and 0dB buttons, which didn't make much sense to me. Also I thought that the DAC+, DAC2 and DAC2 HD HATs all used different chips so why are there only two outputs? Or is it just that my card is faulty? mr-b's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10044 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114828 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Jivelite for piCorePlayer
The active speakers don't have vol controls, just trim pots for various freq corrections and RCA and XLR inputs, so it's just PCP (squeezelite/jivelite?) that is doing vol control. Hmm - maybe wrong thread! The ALSA mixer settings were at the those you mentioned already. The noises are: 1) Boot up squealing 2) Background hiss 3) Transport change (vol/pause etc.) clicks After some testing I found that if I switched to a USB DAC with the display back on, the boot up noise disappeared so it's something to do with the DAC HAT. I found that the noises are in time with the activity LED so I guess there's some interference issue. Background hiss varied widely between different DACs. The transport/vol change clicks/glitches are definitely more noticeable using RCA (12dB more sensitive than XLR) and on quiet tracks. I can hear them now with the same tracks on other Squeezelite systems connected to active monitors, so is it just an artefact of Squeezelite playback? I just don't hear it using Foobar2k direct to a DAC. Changing the ALSA buffer from 80 to 240 has helped a little I think with one SPDIF DAC system so far. Will do some more testing. Maybe these monitors are just too revealing! :-) mr-b's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10044 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=103330 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Tx for the suggestions, Man in a van's suggestion worked but was distorted at higher bit rates. Then I discovered the Squeezelite Output devices section on the Diags page with the detailed descriptions of each output and tried the simplest setting i.e. 'sysdefault:CARD=USB- E-MU 0404 - Default Audio Device' Bingo, that worked on all bit rates! :-) And without having to remove the Justboom DAC HAT. I think a possible reason why my earlier attempts failed was because I was using the UI on my phone and copy/pasting in the output entries from help, (I had no idea they could be selected as there was no mouse pointer indicating clickable lines and I'd not noticed 'click to use') so a stray space may have crept in. I pulled the sd-card, and remember that I could just use another RPi to check it via a USB adapter. I also loaded the 'e2fsprogs.tcz' extension to enable badblocks. Both checked out Ok. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 8.0.0
Yup, no argument on that front! But there's no point passing just 'y' to fsck since the vol is mounted i.e. tc@PCP-XLR-LMS:~$ e2fsck -y /dev/mmcblk0p2 e2fsck 1.45.6 (20-Mar-2020) /dev/mmcblk0p2 is mounted. e2fsck: Cannot continue, aborting. I'm confused as to what you're suggesting. My question in case it wasn't clear was about why fsck in read-only mode indicated free count issues if fsck had been run on boot? Or does fsck not fix those? mr-b's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10044 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114828 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] ANNOUNCE: piCorePlayer 7.0.0
Hi I experienced some odd instability recently on PCP 7.0.1 with LMS 8.1.1, and had the dreaded empty library. A rescan didn't work so I restarted LMS and I could browse the network mount again but the PCP kept dropping off the LAN, even after a reboot, even though ping was working fine. Another reboot and it all seems to be behaving itself again, thought it occasionally times out on the web UI, which I don't see normally. Are there any diags I should look for? How does one detect a dodgy sdcard for example? I can only see dosfsck under Beta functions, which I presume is no use for linux filesystems. Nothing of note in LMS log file. I checked in dmesg and found some post-boot exceptions and backtraces reported which might not be good - and I don't see them on my other PCPs. Tx for adding the LMS warning. It'd also be useful to say what navigating away from the page will do. I only saw a progress % counter on FF with no bar. I had to do a shit Reload (override cache) to get the bar to display. The image size makes a lot more sense now, though an old storage pedant says all that has to happen now is to change mb to be MB or GB and then we're !Done". Or should that be "100%" now? ;-) mr-b's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10044 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113912 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] New sd-card image backup feature in pCP 7.0.1
I've discovered that if I mount a writable share under LMS Network Mount then that mount will appear in the image location drop-down, so that looks promising. It's managed to write a 0 byte file so far but Resource Monitor doesn't indicate any file writing activity. Will do some more digging. The cmd then says "Things can be sped up if you install extension pigz.tcz from the extension page." but of course by then it's a bit late to discover that! Any chance this could be flagged on the initial page if it can't be included by default for some reason? [SlimDevices: Unix] New sd-card image backup feature in pCP 7.0.1
This looks really useful as it's a PITA fiddling about removing the sd-card to back it up separately. I had a few questions: - the first box says 'Disk Information'. So is this about the source i.e. sd-card or the destination i.e. a disk? The info looks like it's the sd-card partition info. - on the Image Location, can this be a network location (like for the LMS music library?). My music library is on a read-only share so it can't use that. Some of the destinations look like they are on the sd-card already so won't this cause a conflict? - Is there a way of scheduling the backup? - How does this affect the integrity of LMS database? Does it temporarily shut it down beforehand? mr-b's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10044 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113912 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Rather odd as I upgraded my other two PCPs without issue, although I did see at one point under the Extensions page that although Internet/DNS and all the repos were accessible, when I went onto the Available tab, a repo was listed as Inaccessible, though I think it changed to accessible after I used the drop down selector. Tx, in the end somehow running the lmsupdate cmd again downloaded 8.1.0 and it upgraded fine. In the end I got a Samsung Galaxy 5e tablet, and it paired OK with PCP, but when I tried to control the volume, the vol bar moved up and down but the PCP output didn't change, unless the vol was at zero when it muted. To recap I'm using an Android tablet (LineageOS 17.1) to connect to PCP as a BT speaker, but occasionally sound is silent, so I check the PCP UI and the connection is unticked, and so I have to Connect it again from PCP, whereupon the BT connection is shown as Active on the tablet and the BT speaker works again. Time to fill in an RFE for a Browse button in the UI. ;-) It's saved me multiple times as it verifies that various network/permission things are accessible or working. I think your Workgroup should still be "WORKGROUP" though. ;-) Try doing a CLI file copy to see what the error is. Explorer error codes suck. In fact Explorer copy sucks generally. I use robocopy for comprehensive/large file copy operations, and you can also log the output to a file to check for errors. mr-b's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10044 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111787 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

I tried with a simplified version of the above, but the script fails unfortunately, even though the direct cmd works fine. My embarrassment of Unix rustiness follows ... but I did at least recall chmod +x after (ahem) 20+ years. Tx - I just have this and it seems to populate all the extra info just fine. 31526 +---+ |Filename: M info plugin config 50%.png | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=31526| +---+ mr-b's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10044 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112456 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer 6.1.0 issues
The setting is just called "Artwork Folder" and makes no ref to artist or album. Either way, browsing Artist information/Pictures and Album information/Find album cover online and Local artwork all seem to be populated. mr-b's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10044 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112456 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
